Would you mind to write up a tutorial how you root your DHD ?
I'm a newbie for android and i have no idea.. been trying to read articles and i still cant understand.
I have downloaded the file called dhd_root.zip and now what ?
some people are mentioning about the gscript and blar blar blar.. what is all that about??
i have no idea what to do now... please help..
*please do not flame me for not using the search function as i read few of them and i do not understand at all*
Thanks
I personally used Evostance's guide, it was very simple and easy to follow: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834427
That's the link. I do believe there are simpler methods now using Visionary. Just check the Development sub-forum and they have more tutorials there

Hey Sylpher,
I did tried to read Evostance's guide but where is the guide?
Step By Step Guide - Download link below
11/11/10 V2
http://www.multiupload.com/KK66WUNUWS
See the main thread for details on the root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805327 ----> i do not understand at all... all those code like listed below
Go to adb shell, switch to root (su) and do the following:
insmod /sdcard/wp-(version).ko
for example: insmod /sdcard/wp_g5ed1769.ko
This will disable wp (will be enabled on reboot though...)
dd if=/sdcard/hboot_eng.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
This will install engineering hboot
totally confused.
The link that he provides includes all the files + the tutorial (in a PDF file). So yeah just download that first and it should be quite straightforward from there on.

http://android.modaco.com/content/h...722/10-nov-r12-test-visionary-one-click-root/
download superuser from market place and install on the phone
make sure usb debuggging is enabled on the, also unkown sources is allowed phone(settings/applications/development)
run visionary and don not check any of the 3 box on the screen
run temp root and let it finish
then attempt perm root it will ask for super user permission, allow this and the phone should root and reboot
to test it has work down load adfree from market place and see if it runs, if it does you have full root

Although I wouldn't recommend anyone to rush into the act of rooting their device, do bare in mind, that the exploit we are using to obtain root will be patched sooner or later, so whilst thinking about it I would be very wary of applying any future OTA upgrades as so you may find you once more have an unrootable device
Here's how I did it, hope it works for you. LOTS OF STEPS BUT THEY ARE EASY TO FOLLOW, I HOPE.
1- DOWNLOAD:
<- adb need not be previously setup
2- AFTER YOU DOWNLOAD THE FILE, MAKE A FOLDER IN YOUR DESKTOP AND CALL IT "ROOT" OR ANY NAME YOU WANT. NOW OPEN THE FILE YOU DOWNLOADED AND COPY THE FILES TO THE FOLDER YOU JUST MADE.
3- CLICK LINK OR COPY AND PASTE IT TO YOUR ADDRESS BAR.
ONCE DOWNLOADED OPEN IT AND COPY THE FILE THAT'S IN THERE.
NOW GO TO THE "ROOT" FOLDER YOU MADE ON YOUR DESKTOP AND PASTE IT THERE. IT WILL ASK IF YOU WANT TO REPLACE IT, SAY YES.
4- GO TO YOUR PHONE AND CLICK ON SETTINGS/APPLICATIONS/ DEVELOPEMENT/USB DEBUGGING, PUT A CHECK MARK ON THERE.
WHEN YOU CONNECT TO YOUR PC MAKE SURE THE USB CABLE IS SET TO "CHARGE ONLY"
5- NOW CLICK ON THE FILE YOU LAST COPIED TO THE FOLDER YOU CREATED ON YOUR DESKTOP. THE FILE NAME IS "ROOTER".
ONCE IT'S OPEN CLICK "STEP ONE" AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS THERE.
ON STEP ONE IT WILL TAKE A WHILE FOR THE FILES TO PASS TO THE PHONE SO SIT TIGHT.
ONCE IT'S DONE THE PHONE SHOULD RESTART IN THE BOATLOADER. AGAIN, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE APP.
IF IT DON'T RESTART IN BOOTLOADER DO THE STEP ONCE AGAIN.
6- IF IT ALL WENT GOOD YOUR PHONE WILL BE WIPED CLEAN JUST LIKE WHEN YOU FIRST BOUGHT IT. SKIP ALL THE SETUP STUFF AND CHECK THE USB DEBUGGING ONCE AGAIN ON YOUR PHONE IN SETTINGS....
NOW JUST DO STEP 2. ON STEP TWO YOU WILL GET AN ERROR, JUST CLICK STEP TWO ONCE AGAIN AND YOU WILL BE ALL GOOD. AFTER STEP 2 IS DONE YOUR PHONE WILL NEED TO GO THROUGH SETTING IT UP AGAIN. JUST SKIP ALL SETTINGS, THAN CLICK ON THE
USB DEBUGGING ONCE AGAIN.
ONCE THIS IS DONE DO STEP 3. FOLLOW INSTRUCTION ON THE APP. STEP 3 GOES PRETTY FAST, ONCE YOU SEE AT THE END OF THE APP THESE WORDS ""Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". RESTART YOUR PHONE, YOU MAY HAVE TO RESTART THE PHONE 2-3 TIMES BEFORE YOU CAN SEE "ROM MANAER" IN THE APP DRAWER.
HOPE IT HELPS.
Anyone try this? I may give it a go later when I get home.
I updated the steps, hope it works for you guys. Just make sure you follow the instructions on all the steps in the "rooter.exe" app.
I get my TB today. If someone tries this method please report results.

Hi,
I've been reading the threads for a few weeks now and was pleased to get cm7 running on my nook.
After looking into the various risk/reward options, I'd like to root my nook color (1.41) using manual nooter 5.12.20
However, while I'm sure it's been covered, I'm having a rough time finding out how to actually do this. One thread leads to another which leads to another, sometimes with seemingly conflicting information.
Is there a basic up to date guide anywhere? If not I'd be happy to compile one together once I figure out how to actually do this.
My main question - I download the zip for mn 5.12.20 - all instructions say to create a boot image out of that, but as it's a zip file, I'm not sure how to do that.
Any help would be appreciated.
Apologies for what I know must be redundant questions and general noobiness.
No instructions say to create a boot image out of the MN zip. You need to put the zip on a bootable image. Look at the MN thread and there are fairly detailed instructions in the first post.

You need to create a bootable ClockworkMod (CWM) SD card, then put the mn 5.12.20 zip file on there (still zipped) and install it using CWM. After that, you remove the CWM SD and reboot, and you should be rooted.
When you restore back to stock, be sure that the version of CWM you're using actually formats /data. If not, you're likely to get a bootloop at the B&N splash screen.
I've got notes on all this in the summary.
Thank you! Much appreciated
Where is the MN 5.12.20 Link
I have been through many threads and am sorry to say I am having a Gilligan moment. I can not find a working link for the MN 5.12.20. Would someone tell me where to find it please? Thank you in advance.

Attached is a step by step guide detailing some the steps required to use Jcase's method to root. I started here with a stock 4.2 Moto X on Verizon with the intention to use it on Straightalk.
Attached are my steps along with screenshots that I have not seen in any other post, hopefully someone will find them helpful. Please note that in order to accomplish these tasks, you will have to refer back to the original Jcase thread to found download links etc. Attached word document contains all screenshots

Hello,
This won't help in case you want to open a command prompt in a specific folder. Check the link above...
Cheers...
EDIT: updated link. Tested it myself and the previous one didn't work. This one does :good:
Also, just in case you would like to go back to previous state, instead of deleting the cmd DWRD as stated on part 10 of the tutorial
10. Delete the DWORD with the name HideBasedOnVelocityId.
I suggest you right click on the name, select "rename" and just add an underscore _ like this _HideBasedOnVelocityId
Do the same if you follow the second part of the guide and want to hide the "Open PowerShell window here"
Cheers

This didn't work for me. I tried renaming first and then deleting the entry. None worked. I went back and tried again and all the settings are already correct as per the guide. I did it again anyways and still nothing even after a reboot. Not a huge deal since I can still just open CMD and cd to the correct location. I have mine at c:/SDK/platform-tools so it isn't a huge pain. Any ideas? I took the latest Creator update.

What the heck, I wonder why it isn't working for me. Is your username (for step 6) a single word or two? Mine is my first and last name. I don't think that should be an issue since when I type it in and hit check names it shows up as PC NAME\FIRST LAST so it doesn't seem to have any problems with that. Checked the box under it, deleted registry key. Changed admin to full control & nothing. Tried giving USER full control as well and nothing.
I've followed the steps 100% about 8 times now, I know I'm not missing anything, but it just won't work for me. :crying:

For user name I just put my email and hit ok then it automatically put my first and last name. Also make sure to allow full control for administrators. Then delete the dwords

I don't give up so easily :good:
Try adding this *.reg file: Enable Command Prompt.reg
Just double click and accept... Open it if you wish, basically, it's just the "HideBasedOnVelocityId" renamed to "_HideBasedOnVelocityId"
I didn't find infos if it also needs proper permissions.
Let me know if it works...
Also adding a "disable command prompt" in case you want to revert the change. I just found the *.reg somewhere and edited it a bit...
Cheers...

I tried the *.reg file just for fun and it seems it still needs proper permission though...
By the way, did you properly set the full control at step 9?
Strange, but after a reboot it disappeared for me until i set "full control" for my username (Seb desktop as you can see on the attached screenshot) and not administrator as per the tutorial... This thing is really weird. Doesn't work for you, disappear after reboot for me, lol...
Good luck...
