I've been trying to play quake in the dual as good as it played it in my old S110, the dual has less available ram and mhz and also a not so good video card (even with the s600 driver)...
But it works, I use the slide up/down keys as fire/jump (fire also changes to fullscreen), the green key to change weapon and the red key to change back to portrait mode (very usefull to exit, hehehe).
But its not as smooth as the S100, it may need more tweaking that I dont know how to perform, so here is my cry for help, can it be better?
This is the config I use in my autoexec.cfg
Code:
crosshair "1"
_snd_mixahead "0.15"
// Start in portrait
vid_mode "0"
viewsize "100.000000"
sizeup
togglemenu
unbind "alt"
bind "v" "+attack"
bind "JOY4" "+jump"
bind "JOY1" ""
bind "r" "impulse 10"
bind "s" "vid_mode 0"
bind "UPARROW" "+forward"
bind "DOWNARROW" "+back"
bind "LEFTARROW" "+left"
bind "RIGHTARROW" "+right"
Also, in the same subject, the Quake 3 arena also works in the touch (never got it running in the S110 before, so this was a nice surprise) but only at 2FPS... Any way this can be better too?
AHHH! Quake became REAL 3D in my touch dual!!!
:O)

hehehe, see here how to build this paper monster:

holy cowlevel! wow!!
the only way i can explain that is that you must have the Qualcomm 3d driver on your device :O :O
I just found a version 0.70 from some guy that was optmized for the magician:
http://rapidshare.com/files/65540361/quake_v0.70.rar.html
Its slitly faster and the colors are much darker (thats problably a gamma option)
Also, these options speed things up a bit, in the autoexec.cfg:
Code:
r_maxparticles "1" //maximum onscreen explosion particles
d_mipcap "1" //sets a maximum quality for all textures, close or far (0=high, 4=low quality)
set d_mipscale "3" //maximum scaled quality of distant textures (0=high, 4=low quality)
precache "1" //loads sounds before map starts to eliminate ingame pauses
r_maxsurfs "400" //limits rendered surfaces
r_maxedges "1600" //limits max edges rendered, maxsurfs*4=maxedges
Found these here: http://www.pocketmatrix.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8871
awesome. thanks for posting this!
I get an error:
W_LoadWadfile: Couldn't load gfx.wad
Why do i get that? Would love to play it
either is on a diferent location than /storage card/quake or you wad isnt good, get the original wad.

Half life on pocket pc!
Its a -GREAT- Quake 1 mod...

Wow, where did yout got it????
Is there any way to increase up fps?
On "normal" quale 1 I use these on the autoexec.cfg:
Code:

d_mipcap "1" //sets a maximum quality for all textures, close or far (0=high, 4=low quality)

Hey twolf, any suggestion on how to decrease the sensitivity while looking around with the Stylus? It's too fast for me!
P.S.:
I'm using the mentioned ROM in my signature!
I manually change it on the options menu, but I think it can be automatic by doing something as simple as to just add this on the autoexec.cfg:
Code:
sensitivity "40"
You can run it with all the buttons (sound + -/camera/red) in your rom v2?
Thats great, did you do anything extra or it just ran that way?
Ill try with the latest v2. I think I only had the realy version.
Thanks
Nop, the clean black v2 wwe non-office 2G doesnt read those butons, only v1.
Interessting! I'll make some test to fix it hopefully!
Only for you, twolf!
damm, thank you very very much... ^_^
hardware keyboard works in quake, isnt?
problably, you just need to "bind" the keys, as you can see in the .cfg example.
I just dont use it like that because its not as handy in fullscreen as with the keboard closed.

tip for the 600
hi grate video but I think you have missed the all point of the device by using icons touch etc
you have a sensor that can help you operate most of the device in one hand
as some may know i'm trying to make a group of tips for this device (something like I did with the 6900)
any way I will give you now one of my tips- a free app that some have seen on k-jam wm6 rom

download this freeware then extract the 3 files to a folder, copy to device (memory card ) and tap on the exe for installation, after doing so you can get anywhere on your device with the keyboard wheel
pressing the start button will let you use the app(launcher ) ,taping the start will let you use the os menu
by sliding your finger from center (key num 5) to the right (key num 6) will let you go foreword with the menus, sliding the finger to the left will get you back
if you have running apps that you want to close you will see them added to the launcher menu, and by sliding on them to the right (toward the X ) will close it or all
(you will see it best in action)
pressing the enter will get you into the running app
there is no best way to config your device so every thing is good, but you have a unique sensor so why not use it for a fully operation of the device by only one hand/finger
enjoy your device
ps - to exit the app go quickmenu/exit
Thanks for your suggests, as soon as possible i'll try your application

same as you I'm not a native American.. ENG is not my strong field there for the mis….
spb shell ,htc-home…. apps are grate since they gather lots of functionalities and info for the user in a clear way for 2.8" screen and also it Is grate to show the guys at the near pub - moving icons like Iphone and not show them here " start/settings …."
the app I have pointed out is very light and can be add to your commonly used program
the thing with this program is that it helps you on your daily base use and emphasize the ipaq 600 uniqueness unlike touch app that are used on all ppc/pe and contribute to the user daily use at an equal way regardless of brand or abilities
It is like using the normal picture view of the device and not use the
"hp photosmart mobile" that has integrated functionality for zoom in zoom out and sliding a picture using the wheel sensor (and key num 5 sensor)
to cut things short try it, use it, but don't give up on having a flashy device with nice flying icons
this movie was not intended to demonstrate the interface but here … enjoy

COMMENT IF YOU FIND ANY BUGS
Not realy any bug but it's just too slow.
Well not slow but it lags, I have like 0,5sec delay from pressing the key to actual sound. Also I would love to see a layered sound engine so that it can handle multiple samples at one time.
Sorry, try closing background apps. .NET is not meant for this type of software.
hi there,
just downloaded and played around with it for a while.
- is there any possibility to play more than one note at a time?i don't mean the touchscreen-wise way but the duration of the current sound being played: it just stops when you press another key without fading out or anything like that.
- you could make the keys larger by removing the two double C's at the right side of each octave and scaling down the application's title. would be much more comfortable to play with fingers then.
but nice work so far...been searching for such a thing for quite a while!
Thanks for downloading.
1. Yes it will be better in next version I'm experimenting with fmodce
2. Maybe.
Works fine with HTC Universal - WM6.1
But, the speed of reaction is a problem for me, cannot playing fast on the piano
thank you very much it's cool tools or game lol
OK I will try to fix delay problem in next version.
Nice
Nice work.
Speed is a bit of a problem, but I like it.

I see over 500 downloads but no one is commenting .
I love this app its gr8 but like evryone else i wuld say speed shuld be improved a little bit.....
Nice project man. I like guitar sound and it´s cool. Only problem..delay posted for users. No apps in background. Installed in Mio A701 (WWE 6.1 optimized, 520 Mhz, just flashed and light).
Thanx for your work
Frank
, it s cool logiciel
problèm: no speed , sound... thank again
Cool app! Thanks for the effort!
Now what I really need is a music teacher to teach me how to play
Looks great!!!
Trying now, and thanks for share
Cheers
Mozillaxom
Niceeee! Finally you got the update out Was waiting anxiously for this! But why didn't you make the octaves variable? 2 Are still kinda few for playing real piano...well anyways thanx alot!
Nice!!!! Speed is only problem...
Congratulations on the program. I´m having speed issues too. My PDA: Axim X51v (624MHz), WM6.
Besides the speed lag issue, there´s also another: when I press a key it stops the sound of a previously pressed key, wich is annoying.
Try to solve these problems and this will be the best Piano/Guitar/Drums/Violin program ever made to PPC.
Thanks! Will try this on my Qtek 9100.
Thanks for comments. I ll try to make it polyphonic.
A New version of Boing is available on my website. This requires a device that has opengl es support.
Touch the screen or use arrow keys to start or pause the game.
Tilt the device side to side to move the ball.
Enter button exits the game.
When paused, touching the lower portion of the screen where it says resume will resume
and touching the upper area where it says exit will exit the game.
-------------
BOING... is a game built for use on a HTC windows mobile phone with a tilt sensor / accelerometer / g-sensor. Move the device to move the ball and bounce from platform to platform.
-older version instructions-
The phone I used to test development has a resolution of 240 x 320.
I have tried to add support for larger resolutions but am unable to test.
I have also tried to make it usable by phones without an accelerometer with the arrow keys.
Please visit my website http://flyingmonkeypuke.com/boing
It is playable but I am still having some trouble with consistent platform generation and collision detection.

any screens pleas ?
Hi, could you put some screenshots? Thanks
It's neat. Tested on a Fuze/Touch Pro and it works well. There's some slight flickering going on. Are you going to build in levels or something similar?
For anyone asking - there are 'trampolines' that a ball bounces off of and goes higher and you need to move the device left/right to move the ball around while it's in air and the platforms are spaced out randomly. I like the concept. MyMobiler won't pick it up on a screenshot...
Thanks for trying it out. I was curious how it plays on a vga resolution. The way I tried to support larger resolutions was to just add more platforms when a larger screen size was detected which probably adds more of a problem with the randomly generated platforms. Unless the ddraw is scaling to fit the vga screen which might be the cause of the flickering? It runs smooth and with no flicker on my device.
I am working on an opengl project at the moment. I will revisit this project and make some adjustments when I can.
I couldn't get MyMobiler to work to get a screen shot either so I just mocked one up.
Tested it to see how it behaved with cursor keys, but since I dont have accelarometer, it crashed...
hey twolf, I dusted off my mpx200 and made some adjustments. I got it to work but I don't recommend running this on on a device with 176x220 resolution. still no flickering on this phone either.
new zip uploaded to my website.
nop.... It shows "unable to load sensor dll", splashscreen appears, crash.
I have a Qvga (240x320) screen.
Doesn't work on my Touch HD (480x800) I see for one second the title, and then it closes..
Has anyone had a positive experience with this program? I would appreciate any feedback.
If anyone is interested I posted an opengl cube that responds to tilting the device.
I had a good experience but I stated that already I didn't see the 'cube' post - I'd test it out...anyone making gsen apps is good in my book
It doesn't work on WM6.5

And with WVGAFix3 resolution to 640x480? It should work i think.
doesn't work with touch pro 2

Doenst work on my Touch HD either. It also doesnt work, if i use WVGAFIX3
New openGL es build of Boing now available. hopefully this will work better for everyone. I finally got access to a touch pro to test on. no sound in this build. enjoy
Thanks a lot, looks great!
Hope soon we can have it with sound
Works fine on VGA screen (Diamond). Thank you, nice game
Works great on the HD2. Very addictive game indeed!
The only problem is that touching the screen pauses and then resumes. The menu doesn't do anything for me, so I can't exit the game that way.
Other than that, tip-top mate
when paused, touching the lower portion of the screen where it says resume will resume and touching the upper area where it says exit will exit the game.
Hi, sorry for the new thread
i installed the free pocket quake for my uni, but i don't see anything in the game screen, white, but i hear sounds, in gameplay

Thanks for the help, and have a nice day
From what I remember of trying to get quake1 running on the universal its a waste of time.
The real issue is not the white screen as I did manage to run it eventually, its the fact that the universal is vga resolution. Pocket quake has only developed stylus movement for a qvga screen, so with a vga resolution its all out of wack as you have can only move around with the stylus at the top left-hand corner and not where you are actually pointing.
And if you think you don't mind just using the keyboard, think again...
Also the framerate is pretty crappy, maybe on average, less than 15fps.
Unless you are a programmer that can fix the problems. You should try something else. There are some other great games out there. Transport Tycoon and warfare incorporated were my favorites.
I will be releasing an updated version of Pocket Quake soon. I've already remedied the keyboard and display issues. I will post an announcement on these forums when it is available.
Thanks for the help
ok, apologies for barging into the thread with a request but can you add the option to enable/disable the auto-view-centering when you move? i find it really annoying. If there is and I didnt RTFA then apologies.
also could it be possible to remove any hardcoding on the ESC key? particularly to back out of a menu option, i bound the action to DEL but it ignores that in the menus
BTW for other people's info, i play in landscape on the Uni using the keys as a kind of joypad and have added this to my autoexec.cfg
vid_fullscreen_mode "2"
_vid_default_mode "2"
vid_mode "2"
one of these forces it to default to landscape, not sure which but it does the trick!
Are you talking about PQ1, PQ2 or PWolf3D? By auto view centering, are you talking about looking up or down, and then the view returning to the center when you move?
The latest versions allow you to bind any key to TOGGLEMENU, so you can use any key you want to bring up or close menus.
pocketquake 1 i think, will double check and yes, when you're looking up (at someone on a ledge high up for example) and you move (to track the enemy or avoid fire) it brings your view back to horizontal in a misguided attempt to be helpful.
Yeah, that's the default behavior of Quake. Fire up WinQuake or GLQuake and you'll see they do the same thing. I can add a custom variable to disable that though.
Dan
that would be fantastic, thank you very much in advance!
Has anyone tried these versions of quake?

Have a look at this video if you have time - about a hour.
It tells you why the X10's screen refresh rate is only 30 frames per second, and shows that SE's opengl driver seems to be well written too.
yep, it was quite obvious, it's also a great video for anyone willing to write games for Android (or any handled device using OpenGL)
On the other hand i don't think the driver is that good, i've already found some really annoying issues on the OpenGL extensions I used : out of the two extensions I tried including the widely used draw_texture OpenGL extension, both aren't using the correct screen resolution and are either scaled or cropped to fit a 800x480 screen resolution.
You can easily reproduce this by trying to draw a 2D texture on screen using glDrawTexfOES() you'll see that the texture looks scaled and the coordinates are wrong because it's trying to fit a 800x480 screen but the X10 is using a 854x480 resolution... so it just chops off the 54 remaining pixels and scale it to fit the screen, and that sucks badly since you can't trust the reported screen resolution and you have to hack a path for the X10 in case you want to use that extension.
The same thing happens if you try to use the GL_OES_framebuffer_object extension, when you bind a buffer you'll only only get 800x480 pixels out of it... and the worse part is that it's not even scaled to fit the screen, so it actually crops the 54 remaining pixels and don't render anything there, so this one is definitely unusable unless you want a big black bar on the right of your screen
Of course, those extensions are surely not -needed- to make an OpenGL game, (the first one is just a fast way to draw a 2D texture on screen, and the second one is an advanced feature that's not supported by default on OGL 1.0 and 1.1 (hence why it's an extension heh))
But it's still a shame to have such issues on such a high end device, it's like the driver wasn't meant for this screen resolution and they just hacked it into the X10, Hopefully this will get fixed when we get Android 2.1 and OpenGL 2.0
Interesting to see the Droid does better than the Snapdragon phones by quite a bit.
