Hello.
I have a week to present my homework, an app for WM5/WM6.
Description:
Two screens.
Screen one: a Calendar showing one month and arrows to move to other months. And a button to take you to screen two.
Scrren two: a list of whatever (let say, accesories for X7501 currently on stock) that feeds of a DB. And a button to go back to screen one.
So basically is creating a DB (item, stock) and a calendar.
I would need you to give me:
1. The code with commentaries (*/this is the button to change month*/ etc).
2. Your paypal account
Who can do it? For how much?
Thanks!
dude that is so cheating. why you gonna pick building an app for wm if you dont even know how to build one.
Hello.
1. The teacher was not supposed to ask that of us.
2. I know how to make an app, but not that one. I can make basic stuff, like coin toss, dice roll, among other stuff. I could learn to program that, but I do not have time, I sleep like 4 hours a day... learning to do that would mean 10 hours.... I don't have 10 hours.
3. I'm not going to live by making apps for WM.
4. Somebody could use some extra dollars. And some might even enjoy building that.
I don't think it's such a bad Idea.
Well.... once again, any one can help me with that simple app?
Regards.
Maybe you should've started this a lot longer before the deadline? I can't really poke holes given that I had to do a 3 minute composition (for my music GCSE) in one night...
1. The teacher was not supposed to ask that of us.

Then argue with them and point out they can't set work like that?

My first point is echoed... Maybe there is a reason for this work such as qualifications?

I would do it, but it goes against the principal of exams/qualifications, and I couldn't anyway...
l3v5y:
It was set on wednesday 16.
And I have until monday 28th...
There's no "lot longer before deadline". If there is, it is now, we have time.
I'm not going to argue the other 4 points.
------------------------
All:
I'm asking for help, and expecting replies about "I can help" or "here's this links that will help" or a Private Message with something along those lines.
I know you can reply with "that's wrong", but could you please not obstaculize?
And could you please not reply with "it's better for you to learn" because it's not and you do not particularly care about me learning to build a DB or a calendar.
And it's not like I'm a greedy student who offers $5 or $10 USD. It's a job and it's better paid.
Once again.... anyone that might be kind enough to help?
Regards.
I'm curious as to how much you're willing to pay. A low-level code monkey can probably get $20/hr. You're better off looking at how tene implemented PCM calendar (or similar).
huh? http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/obstaculize
Sorry, English is not my first language.... I meant something like "not-help", not as much as deter, restrain, discourage... just like being an obstacale...
I'll prefer to let the programmer set the price for the job done, not by the hour of course... and then we'll talk about it.
But probably it will be way more than $20 per hour of real efficient work.
Go download eMbedded Visual Basic from the MS Website:
Not that I want to discourage developers getting money, but the fact is, the two things you are discussing (Forms and calendar) are already available as code samples in eMbedded Visual Basic. Most, if not all developers know this...
So basically, if your teacher doesn't understand that making this project is as simple as writing your own name, than it won't matter whether you cheat or not. Besides, you will still have to make the program yourself, even with the two code samples.
The calendar is called DateTimePicker
And from memory, the page sample is just called Form
Hope This Helps
This is just a Test to show you what i have made..if this is the kinda stuff you want..send me the details for the About page
NOTE : This requires Internet Connection to be activated before Starting the application
See attached
Jadel:
Well now there's some help. It actually got me started with the calendar and the app itself.
You can watch progress here http://www.tech-medellin.com/TempUploads/advance.wmv
Ather90:
And that's even better. More like I was hoping for, unfortunately I lost hope with first replies and started myself.
Any way, perhaps you could help me with accesories. I've watched what you did and it's great, but not what I'm looking for... although I could add it...
The teacher asked for a database stored in the app (not updatable nor modificable by user). A list must be created based on the DB. I would fill it with data (I actually sell devices and accesories)
Can you help with that? For how much?
Thanks!
im sorry but i dnt know a thing abt Databases
I will give you the source code..its coded in VS 2008 Pro
You can get some info abt Db here http://www.codeproject.com/KB/database/
Thanks a lot!
I have almost finished my app.
Actually two of them I had forgotten there was a second one.
(sorry for not replaying until today)
Happy to hear it's alsmost done
Sorry I dnt know anythng about programming PPC.

I'm wondering what the experience has been for people using Opera 8.6. I installed the free beta version months ago, which is working, and I'm wondering if it is worth it to buy the latest retail version.
Any Opera users care to comment on their experience?
Generally I find this a good browser but there a few problems which I must mention:-
1) One cannot configure it to store its Cache to SD card. There are ways around this but nothing out of the box.
2) For large web pages with graphics and annimations vertical scrolling becomes really painful as the page does not scroll smoothly with the vertical bar. This gets really really annoying at times.
3) There is a slight lag between pressing of a link and the browser responding. You tend to press the link repeatedly thinking the browser has not responded and then it hangs. However this is something you soon get used to so not that much of a problem.
4) Quite often it does not load the page fully and gets stuck towards the last bits of the page. This is more so for pages with annimations. The progress bar gets stuck when the page has almost been downloaded and only a small percent is left. You then have to refresh the page and usually the 2nd attempt gets you through the full page.
4) The worst problem for me which has really limited its use is that once you have used this it stops some other programs to start and you have to soft-reset. Typical examples are Netfront, Planmaker and Textmaker. After using Opera and having killed it these programs will often not start without a soft-reset.
As I said at the start it is still a good browser and so I am not mentioning the good things but these are just the glitches which seriously mar the user experience of an otherwise good product. In fact though I have a registered version I find myself using it less and less and prefering Netfront over it simply of some of the annoying bugs I mention.
Regards
I agree with smrz completely, and have suffered from the issues outlined, but I'd like to add:
- Opera 8.6 can't handle some pages very well (I'm thinking of the Yahoo pages where you need to log in). It just doesn't render them in any sort of useable fashion.
Having said this, I still use it as my main browser, and find that in combination with PIE, then I can do pretty much everything I want on the web.
Cheers,
Steve.
are there any differences between the beta version and the retail version?

Here a post I wrote on moving cache of Opera on SD card...
http://www.planete-htc.com/index.php?mod=forum&ac=voir&cat=101&id=5514
Open opera.ini file, go to [User Prefs]. At the end of that paragraph, write that ligne
Cache Directory4=\Storage Card\x with x the folder you choosed for cache on your SD.
For french roms, Storage Card must be replaced by Carte de Stockage
Opera is not perfect, but is largely better than other mobile browers...
Thanks for the input. I'm not sure I will pay for the retail version at this point.
Re: the difference between beta version and latest retail version, I'm sure there are many and would depend on the beta version. Main one that comes to mind is that I understand the retail version has a tabbed browser interface while my old beta version does not.
I wonder if Opera mobile will ever support Java?
opera 8.5/8.6 does not support java & javascript?
what about vbscript?
Where do we copy the opera.dll
I am running a trial version. Have the cracked opera.dll file. Where do I copy this to in order to prevent the 30 days to run up?

Here's an idea: how about *paying* for it? I mean, it's only $24 or about 2% the RRP of an HTC Universal. Don't try to kid yourself that circumventing anti-piracy measures is anything other than stealing. If you use a cracked copy, you are a theif.
I agree I always buy software. I have 50+ apps on my IIs and all are paid for you, shouldn't try and steal money from hard working developers who are trying to make a living.
I am finding Opera 8.60 retail to be AWESOME!
In fact, I ditched the JasJar some months ago and have been using a JAM for some time. I only bought a new JJ cos of Opera on VGA. It's rendering most pages such as my online banking (which PIE cocked up completely), it zooms perfectly, and it's just amazing! If WM5 had come out with a decent broser on day one it would have driven operator ARPU's and internet usage. Now I have google with me wherever I go. I kind of had it on my JAM, but not really with that crappy low res screen.
This is a no brainer app and worth every cent!
Piracy
Nice thinking and have no objection. But if you got something for the first time you simply dont go about splashing money around. It is only fare that I want to make use of it, see & decide. If you check 8.6 is not the latest version it is an old version. By paying I would now be getting v9 (see I checked it and am planning to) but need to see if it is what I need / want.
Stereotyping aint really good. Peace anyway....
PS: Besides doing this kind of stuff is always the best way of learning the logic, structure of how a device works. And that is my main interest in these stuff. Not getting all for free. Thanks for your comments anyway...

I'm using Opera on the trial. 30 days is plenty of time to make your mind up. If you don't really use it enough to make up your mind in that time, then don't buy it. If you do, buy it. $24 really is next to nothing for a product. That wouldn't a decent sandwich, cake and a cup of tea!

They provide a trial for that purpose. If they didn't, I still wouldn't agree. Afterall, I can't try out a holiday before I buy it and if I don't like the terms, I can simple boycott the product.

I'd hardly call it stereotyping. Stereotyping is painting a group with a broad brush and, in doing so, encompassing more than rightfully fit the description. However, calling all pirates theives is not stereotyping as all piracy is theft.

I know I'm on a very high horse here, but I cannot and will not tolerate piracy. It *does* hurt people (developers, distributers, support staff, everyone in the chain and their families) and they only reason why it's not as widely regarded as wrong is because everyone knows they will more than likely get away with it. Steal Opera is no better than stealing a wallet or an item of jewellery or anything else. It's ALL theft.
I'm using an early beta that does not have the 30 day limit.
Am I stealing?
The reason I posted the question is because I am not averse to paying for a good finished product. It seems craigiecraig4 (if I have the name spelled right) would say that Opera 8.6 is a good finished product.
That is the type of opinion I was soliciting.
I think anyone who has a beta version of software on there device have in a way paid for it because they put there device on the line to test the product.

Dude - your articles are GREAT! Going thro many of your past posts now...keep it up!
I thought it was common sense, but my buddy with a G1 was like "I didn't know you could do that!?"
OK... so... Go to MarketPlace, Menu key--My Downloads.... if it says installed, you're all good. If it says Install and is a program you HAVE installed? Click it. Will overwrite the old version automatically.
That is one way.... but a new app on the market it makes it one step easier. Install aTrackDog... I used the way you described before this came out... it makes your life soo much easier.

There are some reasons not to use aTrack Dog. I'm manually updating my apps for now. Maybe Google will refine the Market app with an update feature later.

Oh wow.. thanks! That's even worse!
Some apps (Twitdroid is a good example) alerts you if there's a new update; and most apps have contact details for the developer, so maybe drop them an email and ask for some auto update code to be added into your favourite apps? Bummer though, you still have to go into the market to update them.

Good point but then again... I personally want to know about others beta's, I think aTrackDog should do something thou... make it so all apps are defaulted to not update.
Either way I don't see any real reasons to not use it except that you should know it may show a beta version. The updates are fast usually everytime I open it there is at least one program on there.

True, I suppose it is a matter of personal preference. Since I only have a half dozen apps installed on my G1, it's rather trivial to just check the download list. I balance that against having yet another app installed, not to mention having my app installation habits data-mined by aTrackdog.

I am not a developer but can see a potential for an exploit on this maybe? Sending out info isn't ever really a good idea. Even if it's set to only send out this and that data, I have seen exploits take advantage of less.
Both valid points, but then again look at the stuff I can't uninstall LOL that can send out just as much info. Everything is a risk, and honestly maybe application mining my G1 is a good thing, might lead to more big name developers wasting money to make quality apps for cheap/free. Never know might make MS want to make an office suite... or better yet... openoffice doing it.

Yeah I wouldn't really hold my breath on OpenOffice for Android. Aside from the fact that most desktop apps have to be completely retooled to function in a mobile context, i'm sure Sun isn't too happy about Google brewing up Dalvik based on Java (which quite directly competes with J2ME). Dataviz is already working on an Android version of DocsToGo.
Of course if Google were to put more of their engineers on Android/mobile development, maybe we could see Google Docs for Android. Let's hope those Christmas Bonus Dreams lead to more apps Googlers make in their 20%.

Isn't openoffice made publically? (not the source but the actual development is by the general public) wouldn't that mean if enough got an android they could do it? LOL
And I bust up over the G1 for all Google employees. i think they will publish on 2012............
I was sent an invite weeks ago, they will get round to you...
Until it allows icons for apps and market submission ... Its just a bit of fun.

I got the acceptance today... it's not an application that you can download... it's web based and runs in an applet type application with a jnlp installer. Personally, I think it might be ok for prototyping... but good luck making anything that is close to advanced with it. It would be easier just to write the code.

Yeah, I just got one yesterday. But as eatmold says you can't use a custom icon on the phone (though that may be possible to do, but the people who know guard the secret - google say its on the list, but knowing them that will be 2012!)
However it is possible to export and import code (not java, some special google stuff) - so people might be able to exchange and share information.

Get folder organizer. Might be one word. It allows you to place a widget, with a custom icon, that launches either a folder, or an app. So you'll have a stock app in the app drawer, but at least it'll look nice on your desktop

I've had my invitation to App Inventor. Frankly, it isn't all that great past making a Pillsbury Doughboy or quiz app. I am unimpressed with it. Unless you know how to write code, it kind of is a waste of time.

Meh, it gets you started though.
I can make the design/layout for an app, and get to the point that I can get to, and have someone else finish it or pay someone to write the necessary code for me.
It's a lot easier getting to that point than trying to get someone to write the entire app. At least, that's my point of view.
Looks like a bunch of accounts were added today.
I have been messing around with it and don't really like it that much right now. Seems you are better off coding things on your own then digging through all of this.

Nope, we aren't given the ability to invite others.
My thoughts after playing around with it for the last 7 hours:
As a non-programmer/developer, it's fun. It's neat to make something and be able to say "look! I made this!" on my phone.
Unfortunately there are a few drawbacks, you can't export the source code into Java, so it's only usable with App Inventor, and you can not publish app inventor apps onto the Android market.
Basically, making a professional app and selling it on the market is out of the question.
I can't even make the bare-bones of an app and have a programmer finish it for me, since it doesn't use actual code and actual code can't be exported.
So it's great for learning about programming, but I don't think it really does anything to teach how to actually program, besides imparting in general how it works and how to think logically.
So if you want to make an app and sell/publish it onto the market and don't have any programming experience, you're better off actually learning how to program with the SDK, online tutorials, or a programming java for dummies book.
I know people might not answer this, but what the hell, you never know.
I'm a programmer; good old fashioned programmer. That's what I do. I've coded in Assembler, PASCAL, RPG II/III, COBOL, C/C++, SQR (a DB language), Easytreive (mainframe), CICS (more mainframe), JCL (mainframe "language"), JAVA and now Android.
Currently unemployed due to crappy market and my location. I've coded a couple of apps and they are on the market selling, albeit slowly.
My problem is, I'm NOT creative LOL IMO, I can code the pants off anything, but I'm just not good at coming up with ideas. I think it's that "left brain, right brain" thing!
Anyone care to throw out some app ideas? Seems like I think of stuff, but it's "been there, done that" on the market. I have my own hosted site and ability to store 10 gigs of database data if that helps.
I'm not interested in doing games or themes or wallpapers (remember, NOT creative!) LOL
I'm new at coding and I have ideas coming out of my ears, so to speak, but I don't have the means (knowledge) to make them a reality. How familiar are you with the android sdk and APIs? I'm kinda new at this, having only released one app into the market. I would like the help of an experienced coder. Check out my website www.fufurinnovations.blogspot.com to see what I'm working on. Thanks in advance
I am looking for an app like Mail Tones for Blackberry that alerts you with a different tones for selected email contacts. By default the notification tone for all incoming emails is just one for all. I tried Mail Alerts but it is very unreliable. Maybe you like this idea? This is a very helpful app in BB since it lets you know when an important email comes up without looking at the screen. Weird that there is only one app in the Market and it just doesn't work.
And what about another app like a camera add-on that lets you level all your pictures using the inclinometer and allows you to take pictures having always the horizon line leveled.

Love this simple but effective idea!

I need, and many android users will agree, that sms messages do not need to be kept forever. I want an app, an addon, an alteration whatever that deletes old messages up to a set time period... 7 days, 14 days, 31 days etc.
If I had a text from o2 highlighting the fab new offers I ignore it and 30 days later its automatically deleted!

I'd love an app that emulates the standard iPod USB protocols well enough to control my Android music player from my car stereo.
Theres a lot of people in a thread in this forum wanting a gtalk widget for android....and willing to pay for it.

I actually thought that the app called Theodolite was going to do this but it was actually a triangulation app. In any case, it comes with an inclinometer that allows you to measure the angle of the camera in x and y. It has a measurement of angles kind of like the vision from Terminator, very cool, but then if you take the picture, those measuring things stay in the picture and the picture itself comes out at a lower resolution so it is not really a photography app, its a measurement app. It could be cool to have a bip once you get the camera/phone leveled with the horizon line.
Cameras nowadays don't come with this feature? You can then sell them the program...
you can help me out with my music app im only decent at concepts

How about an app that is able to identify if someone in the area is running android and to be able to strike up a gtalk convo via invite. idk if that'd be possible.
WOW! Thanks to all the repliers (is that a word? LOL). Oh my, there's an idea right there for my database space...a dictionary or thesarus!
Some very, very good ideas out there and I DO appreciate them very much. I can definitely see 2 or 3 apps that I can start working on.
Keep the ideas coming and I'll get my fingers going on development of some of the replies up to this point.
Thanks again!
Figure out bluetooth hid in sense roms or video out for aosp roms.
Hello,
An application that encrypt/decrypt phone conversations in real time between two android phones could be nice...

One app i really think is missing is a good working RSS-reader which makes it possible not to juggle between the RSS-reader and a browser.
An example would be a super simple reader like Google Reader that can open up the posts in background inside the reader, having the same possibilities as a browser.
I am tired of HTC sync not working right with custom roms. I need something (app or software) that will sync my pc Outlook contacts and calendar with android phone. There is a need for business people that want to use their android phone for business! IMHO

I don´t know if exist an app that can do what I want...so...here it is the idea:
It´s an app that can change the apps icons in the drawer...like the one we use to change icons in desktop....but....for the drawer...
Or maybe a widget for app launcher...I know there ir a lot of it....but make one like the objetdock for windows...if you know what I mean...
Cheers! and thank...
i have many great ideas, but im not a programmer...my only problem with you is that you seem to want people to GIVE you their ideas...like recently, i had someone develop a clock widget for me in which i provided the graphics...we are splitting the profits 50-50...so maybe if you could make an agreement like that or a 60(you)-40(me) agreement then i might be able to help you out...and you could help me

Yes, I guess I should have mentioned that ...my bad.
Of course I would be willing to split profits on a joint-effort project. And, I'm terrible with graphics design and the like. And sometimes, the user interface can make or break the applications (people like "Wow, cool" or flashy app interfaces).
I'm more of a "meat and potatoes" guy; input your data, get info back LOL
So yes, I'm willing to pursue a multi-person project as I think it's beneficial to both parties, not only monetarily, but the possibility of learning from each other.
Thanks,
Roots
Im sorry, i didnt mean to come off rude, lol...and im good with photoshop and UI ideas...i have no degree in anything just to let you know, im a self taught 17 year old, who like i said has no programming skills just ideas...i will get back to you though...im currently working on trying to update this other app i have
