Cube Face Calls an Application. - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus General

Hi,
I relay like the Touch Dual's "quick task" menu that comes up when you slide open the phone, but I would rather it have more control when it appears ie: sometimes I want to use the menu but have no reason to slide open the phone.
I found out that the menu can be manually launched via windows\HTCActionScreen.exe (thanks shlomif), but my problem now is how to call the menu in a clean, convenient, and cool way
it would be cool to call the menu with a downward gesture on the home screen (looking into this in another thread), but the other method I was interested in was to make it one of the panels of the "cube".
My question is then, would it be possible to link HTCActionScreen.exe to one of the cube faces, so I could spin the cube to a particular face and that menu would appear?
Or would I have to "re-create" that menu as a cube face ie: skin a face like that menu and work out how to call the functions like "new sms" "new contact" and put them behind the buttons.
Or is it not possible?

[REQ] Twin curtain style app

I'm putting out a request to all developers in compiling this app.
My idea is based off the function of the dialer curtain. Only, this app will have the option of using a transparent curtain or custom curtain (blank, wallpaper, etc.) and the curtains can be activated at any time for any reason, and then of course, be deactivated.
To be a little more detailed, one could use a capacitive swipe upwards from the send key to the home key (and activate transparent mode), or from the end call key to the back key (to activate wallpaper mode), to initialize the program. Upon initialization, the screen wouldn't be immediately covered, only a click and drag icon would appear at the top and/or bottom of the screen. Clicking this icon and dragging up or down would extend and retract the curtain and the curtain could stop wherever you lift your finger (you could use the curtain to partially cover the screen). Reactivating the program while running would simply close it (meaning another swipe upwards of the capacitive area would put away the curtain AND button).
An added option would be to double or triple tap the curtain button once the curtain has been put in place to lock the curtain in place. (even locked so that capacitive swipes won't close the program.)
I feel this could be very useful in many area's and for all types of user's from parents to porn addicts as well as for business. (<---that's sounds kinda F'd up in an ominous pun kind of way.)
Just to name a few
(e.g. Porn addicts could use it for privacy purposes in public. Parents could use it to cover the start menu while in a paint app and let their child play with it without worry, and business when you're multi tasking and need to walk away for a min and want to lock/hide the screen without closing apps or putting your phone into suspend.) Not to mention a fullscreen dialer curtain!
So what do you all think? I know there are apps that can do parts of this which is why I'm asking multiple developers to compile their certain segments.
Please and Thank You!
*Edited* A better way to lock it could be if the curtain button was able to slide left and right. When it pops up, it would start on the right side. when you let go and then touch the button again, you could slide it to the left side of the screen and it would lock. ( Because the button actually sits just above the curtain, when you drag to the very top, the button wouldn't exit the screen and the curtain wouldn't cover the start menu. Same thing for dragging down, it wouldn't cover the softkeys. But when you performed the locking action, the curtain would merely slide up or down the rest of the way. eh?!?!
Is this not that good of an idea? I noticed people have at least looked at this but not a single comment? No body backs this? disagrees? is too busy? i'm kinda disapointed.
Sounds to me like this is another locking application with features of both S2U2 and Touchlock Pro. Would you agree?
yes and no. More like a combo of butler and the HD dialer curtain with visual interaction/amusement. I'm a big fan of using gestures and seeing things work rather than just relying on adequate lighting or waiting for a vibration.
Mainly, this style of locking app allows you to lock out certain parts of your phone with ease, while still being able to use other functions.
To me this is not really another locking app! I actually like this idea. Has some possibility in it! Good thinking

Is there a way to manually trigger lock device (with PIN entry)?

Is it possible to manually trigger the auto lock feature (when inactive) with PIN entry?
press start menu->left softkey (Lock)
Thanks for the help
Okay...sorry guys...I didn't understand that fully Got the start menu but "-> left softkey" I'm totally lost. Are you talking about the softkeys along the bottom of the Touch HD (phone, home, back, end call)??

Soft keys are the words at the bottom of the screen such as Contacts or Phone etc.
Alternate to softkey is Start>Lock (then set lock to use a pin) and then long-press the drop call button and on coked ROMs that should bring up a menu which includes lock screen -or the menu can be changed to automatic lock instead (through Manila settings).

Accessing Speedials from softkey

Ideally im after an app that will upon pressing a softkey, display a small pop up menu with speedials on it. SBSH ILauncher does this perfectly but its a HUGE app for just that one feature.
If this isnt possible, can the softkey be directed straight to the dialer speedials??
BTW this is the today screen softkeys not manila.
Many thanks

[GUIDE] ..::The Galaxy Note Tips n Tricks Collaboration::..

Mod edit - all of the information here has been moved over into the Galaxy Notes Tips and Tricks thread. Please continue the discussion there.
Hi and welcome to the Samsung Galaxy Note, Tips n Tricks thread...
This is just a collaboration of all the tips that were gathered mainly from the thread 'Galaxy Note: tips and tricks' started by 'galaxytab1'. So massive thanks to him and to all the members that contributed to that thread. I take absolutely no praise in doing this thread as all I am really doing is copying info from one place to another to make it easier for new and experienced users to find what they want. All credit goes to the contributing users.
So to make it easier please do not try and reply to this thread, if there is some information about the Note that you want to share please either post it in the 'Galaxy Note: tips and tricks' thread or PM me to add it to the list, same goes with editing. As always use these tips at your own risk.
Link2Post 'Links' usually mean there is more info about the tip (i.e. Pictures) from their original post.
Prehaps if any admins read this and deem this worthy of useful maybe you could sticky & lock it with certain user editing functions?

2. Certain widgets from Samsung are resizable: Bookmarks, Weather, and S-memo. These are again only seen in galaxy note i guess.. Link2Post (galaxytab1)
Hold the widget until it gets big and the desktop gets small, indicating it's able to be moved. Then let go and it'll drop back down and the resizing lines will appear. Touch and hold the grey triangle on the lower right corner, and drag to resize the widget. (maxh)
3. The new browser in 2.3.6 upgrade has this new brightness option in the settings tab. (galaxytab1)
4. There is the ability to tag your music for easier searching. (galaxytab1)
5. You can also do live recording using the built in FM Radio. (galaxytab1)
6. Long pressing on the status bar then sliding your finger left and right adjusts the screen brightness but only when NOT using auto-brightness. (djowett)
7. Three ways to take a screen shot:
I: Using the S-Pen hold in the button then press on the screen until the shot is taken.
II: Like you were doing a hand shake, swipe the bottom of your palm across the screen either left to right or right to left.
III: Press The home button and power button together. (dr.ketan)
8. There is a toggle for the noise reduction during calls. Press menu AFTER call is connected to invoke the option. (Galaxytab1)
9. When you open your contacts list if you swipe your finger over their name to the right it calls them and when you swipe left it opens up an SMS to them. (Braxos)
10. The contacts can be made to search not only with the first letter but second also. Try touching the letters 'A,B,C...'on the right edge of the contacts list and then swipe away towards left, you will see the second letters appearing by which to look up contacts. (Galaxytab1)
11. Pressing the home button wakes the screen up from sleep. (ItsMathematics)

16. You can control the FM radio using the packaged earphones. Long pressing the call button starts and stops the player and single presses moves you to the next station. (Strategist )
17. Touch and twist with one finger to rotate photos in gallery, don't use the top of your finger, more like if you were pressing in a fingerprint and then twist 90 degrees. (Darius)

24. To mute your ring or alarm just gently turn over the phone so the its face down on a flat surface. (mcatt66)
25. Long pressing the back button in the browser brings up the history list. (katyarevishal)
26. In settings-accessibility at the bottom is a sub menu called answering/end calls, there you can toggle the use of the power button to end the call. I like this one as there is always a small delay in the seen coming on to highlight the end call button.
There's also a toggle for answering a call using the home button and an automatic answer option using the stereo headset. (jamieross)

27. S-memo syncs with Google Docs, just go to S-Memo/Menu/Sync. (Galaxytab1)
28. Tips on S-memo sync with Google Docs:
I. Search option in Docs searches the whole of your document and not just the title. So, of you type something in the notes, it is searchable.
II. Title can be entered at the top, however, any text that you enter on the notes becomes the title.
III. S-Memo also has a tag system (Edit Tag) which neatly arranges your memos together, go to S-Memo/Menu/Sort by tag. (Galaxytab1)
IV. If you are syncing with google docs, deleting a memo doesn't delete the memo on google cloud. So any memo you deleted will be back next time you sync unless you login in at docs and delete the memo.
29. In the stock browser if u pinch to zoom out while fully zoomed out it brings up the new and choose window feature. (jamieross)

34. You can fast forward and rewind while watching videos in the stock galaxy note app. (Chillz88)
35. The photo editor provided by Samsung has this one nifty feature:
Crop a photo and paste into another/The cropped image colour scheme will adjust to the new background. Link2Post (galaxytab1)
36. 3rd party launchers don't support widgets from s-memo, s-planner etc (galaxytab1)
37. Here is one more use of the pen:
Install Handwriting Recognition Calculator from Samsung Apps (not in Market). It works most of the time and even if recognition is not good, there is an edit option to reenter the figures. Kinda cool with the pen! Link2Post (galaxytab1)

Very usefull feature. (hagba)
7. The notification bar is tough to draw on such a large screen with single hand use, which is why I am using this app:
https://market.android.com/details?i...tusbarexpander Place it on swipepad or other launchers or home screen. (galaxytab1)
Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGqUILrMR0A

Don't know if this is exclusive to Note, or if this has been posted before, or if this is written in the manuals or instructions. Sorry if it is.
In S Planner, letting go after a held tap on a date box in Month view, or [the small space under the date]* in Week/3Days/Days view, will bring out S Memo Lite and what you scribble will be saved to the day where you entered it.
