Custom Calendar entries... anyone know a tweak? - Wing, P4350 General

I still use the default windows calendar application, but I'd like to find a way to customize it. (or customise, if you prefer).
Under "subject" there is a drop-down menu that I'd like to add to or alter the default settings. I have "Meet with, Lunch, Dinner, Visit, Call", etc., but I'd like to change these to "Dental appointment, Class, Kids activity, On Call at work" or whatever comes to mind. This way I can find these appointments faster.
Any ideas? I've searched for many tweaks but not found these.

What about SPB Diary or any of those programs that enhance your phone's PIM.. have you tried any of those?

I haven't. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible, without adding a whole bunch of extra software to the phone.
I was hoping it could be found in some hexadecimal registry search or something, but I don't have the time right now to really dig deep. I was just hoping one of the brilliant minds here knew of a way.

please clarify
Dirt,
Under subjects I understand you have entries already added by yourself. have you tried under categories??? I think you might find it easier to use that to find them quicker when searching, noting that it would be just like using the desktop version of outlook. Just a thought, you know.

I have two areas I want to enter things into, Subject, and Location. Both of these are drop-down boxes, with some pre-installed entries in Subject. Nothing is per-installed in Location.
I can simply type what I want into these boxes and it will work, but with the drop-down boxes it would be much easier to simply select one.
Even adding my own entries doesn't add them to the drop-down list for future use.
This is all at the screen of a new calendar appointment, at the very top.

Ok, which version (wm5/6) herald do you have?? I understand you, but what you can't do I can with mine, and its stock.

This is WM6.1 pro.

same problem here..
Ive searched the registry for those default entries. found nothing. maybe in some xml config file...

Link to Menu Items within Programs

Is there any way to create shortcut that would point to a menu item inside a program? For example, if I created a link to Messaging/Send and Receive, I could then create a voice command that would cause that to happen. Similarly, I would like to link to Messaging/Tools/Empty Deleted Items so that I can clear items off the server with a voice command or two. I am hoping this functionality exists in WM5, but haven't encountered it.
Sorry if this has been covered; I searched and I've been reading the postings daily for a couple of weeks.
This board has dramatically helped me configure my MDA.
There is no direct way to do this. What you'd have to look for is a program that can 'record' screen taps and 'play' them back to the system. MortScript is a free utility that does this, and more, and seems quite popular:
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=1448
You can come a long way with this way of making shortcuts, the rest could then be done by Mortscript...
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnppcgen/html/ppc_tcuts2.asp
That seems promising
jpiek, that looks like just the thing, but the explanation is for settings. It looks to me that something like
23# "/Windows/tmail.exe,X"
where X is the number of the send/receive menu entry would work to automate the send/receive function. Similarly for the empty deleted items. So my questions are (i) is this right, and (ii) where I can find out the numbers of the menu items for Messaging?
prestonmcafee: that's not quite correct. The Microsoft link is specific to shortcuts to control panel settings.
For any other app you're looking for command line options, that may or may not be available for the apps you're interested in. Depends on the app...
V
Browse the File associations with a tool like "Pocket Tweak", it might help in looking up some commandline parameters...
Pocket Tweak's description doesn't sound promising.
There should be a way to do this. In Messaging, I just want Send/Receive, which is invoked by <menu>S, and Empty Deleted Items, which is reached by <Menu>T<Menu>E. I would also like to directly link to "Synchronize via Bluetooth."
which is exactly what things like mortscript allow you to do - send key presses / screen taps / etc. to the device as if you actually pressed them.
If you're looking for some magic command line switch that does it... e.g.
"poutlook.exe -sendandreceive"
then who knows - maybe it exists, but most likely it doesn't. For most applications, the menu items aren't something that have command line switches
What i meant was : With POcket Tewak you can have a LOOK at the file associations, and maybe get a hint of the parameter you have to use...

Funny - looks like there's a thread that is on this very topic, and the latest post now details exactly what the shortcut for -that- should look like

Quick way to settings on Today screen

Hi. I'm using cLauncher and I'm wondering if there was a way to get things like phone settings, display settings as an icon setting on the Today screen. Going through menus is a bit slow for frequently used functions. Thanks.
There is a thread somewhere around here that deals with making shortcuts for items on your phones "control panel" I wish I could find it, but it's going to be a bit of a ***** to do so probably. If I do find it, I will let you know.

This might help.
You can use this cab to create a link to the today settings and then add it to cLaunch. It creates a link to start>settings>personal>today.
In order to link to things such as the backlight control enter \Windows\Backlight.lnk (note lnk is LNK in lower case) into the 'File Path' field within the cLaunch settings. You can also add custom icons as well - search google for suitable 32x32 icons and then convert them to bitmaps. They work a treat.
To find out other useful info about shortcuts check the following posts by vijay555: http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=507575
This link does not appear to be working - use advanced search using the word 'completeness' and the user id vijay555 which will return the required links.
They are very useful and informative. Vijay555 is also a fan of cLaunch from what I gather.
cLaunch is a great piece of freeware! I'd recommend it to anyone!

Icon changing question.

I just flashed a new rom, and am in the process of making some custom shortcuts for the start menu, in order to implement them into my programs tab on TF2d.
How does one go about changing the icons displayed by actual WM (and in turn, TF2d)? Again, I'm not talking about about UL, IFonz, Hi-nav, SPB Pocketplus, or anything that has a icon changing function already in place. If it were that cut and dried, I wouldnt be asking. The goal here to to use some of bluemetalaxe's icons to replace the generic DOS looking icons that you get when you create your own shortcut.
Could anyone here point me in the right direction? Previous searches have only netted results for the aforemention programs, and the only place you really see customized Windows Mobile icons are in cooked roms. Surely there is a way to do this without having to cook, im not in the mood to do THAT much tweaking.
Thanks in advance,
Colin
Yes - this is a relatively hard topic to find & understand from this forum. But through a bit of patience, it can be done.
Here you can read how to change icons for folders:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339405&highlight=icons
For icons for individual files, I sort of learned by myself (read ^ that thread first):
Select an icon from your .dll
Select a setting or program to link to
Then, simply create a .lnk file that is structured like this example [for wi-fi settings]:
1#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,17?\Windows\custicons.dll,-186
Thanks alot man, I appreciate your help. I'm saving that info to notepad for the archives, lol.
^ yeah no problem dude.
That's what I did - all the important info is stored away

Try this! (more stuff added)

Ok, by now you probably know HTC's nice text selection tool. To use it, write some words in a HTC application (like the text message composer), then tap-and-hold somewhere in the text. You get one handle to move around, or two if you want to select a precise part.
But there's more. Change "HKLM/Software/HTC/TextSelection/EnableMagnifier" from 0 to 1. Now activate the text selection tool again as described above and try moving the single handle around...
Nice catch. Can be helpful in tight selections. I've been looking through the reg. So much stuff disabled... Why does HTC do this? They could've placed it as an option on SMS menu...
Thanks. Added to tips thread.
Maybe they disable it so we at XDA have something to do until HSPL is released
Some other simple but cool things I discovered:
* You can use the album app to crop pictures. Just pinch-to-zoom until the part you want fills the screen, then tap the screen, tap the icon on the bottom right and choose the second option from the menu. In Dutch it's called 'Schermafbeelding opslaan'. It will save a cropped copy of your pic.
* Here's a registry entry I found: "HKLM/Software/HTC/Manila/InternetPush/EnablePushInternet". It's set to 0 by default. I'm not really interested in push internet, so I haven't experimented with this, but it seems you can enable it if you want.
* Sometimes touch scrolling gets in the way of selecting text. If you want to select text, the solution depends on the context, but to start you just tap-and-hold anywhere:
-- In Opera, you can switch text selection on/off in the context menu;
-- In some apps (like while reading an e-mail message) you get a pop-up menu where the first option is 'make selection' ('selectie maken' on my Dutch device);
-- In Word, just before the pop-up menu appears, you see this: '[T]'. As soon as it appears, move your finger and you'll be able to select text!
* If you like the Footprints app but prefer full size pictures to those square 'polaroids', there's an option to save a full sized copy whenever you create a 'Footprint' (Footprints tab -> Menu -> Settings).
* The 'me' entry in the People app stores your 'owner' info. I know this is widely known by now, partly because I've been posting it everywhere, but I still see so many people complaining they can't register their applications (Resco stuff, SKtools)... because the can't find the old owner info icon. I have registered both Resco Explorer and SKtools perfectly fine without ever bringing the owner info icon back.
I haven't ever been able to get the Text Selection sliders to work on a custom rom even after setting the registry value to 1.
This is an awesome feature and I can't understand why it doesn't work.

you know it only works in text messaging, right? (well, some other htc apps too, apparently, but i couldn't name another one i've seen it in)
Yes of course... I'm aware that it only works in the realm of Sense specifically mail and text. I can do the standard selection thing but I just can't seem to get the sliders.
Any ideas?
hmm, well a common mistake I've come across a few times is people not pressing select the first time.
firstly go type some text into a new text message. (not sure where the idea it works in email came from, certainly doesn't on mine.)
ok, press and hold should bring up a cursor and the words "select|select all.
use the single sljder to set the start(or end, whichever) press 'select' nd now a second slider should join the first, enabling you to select.
Thanks for the responses guys, but as it turned out, I didn't realise that Energy ROMs are stripped of the HTC Messaging Module and that seems to be the only place where this 'feature' works.
It's a shame that's it's not available system-wide considering how easy it makes life.
I installed the HTC Messaging Client and voila, it was it there! but that excitement was short lived considering how bad HTC's messaging client is.
hah couldn't agree more. with the magnifier too its great ,, just never gets used.

Windows Menu Order Home Screen

Ok i know a few of you would like to do this, and i think its been asked before but nothing turns up on search.
What the hell is it with the windows home screen, icons all over the place, no real easy way to move them, or order them.
I have tried a few programs but they mainly just seem to mess things up, i have also tried organizing all my icons into folders in windows, while it does sort of work there are still things you cant move, or it just does not go to plan, i know in 6.5.1 there is an option to re-organise icons how you like, but surely there is a way for 6.5?, its driving me nuts, there is crap all over the place with no organization to it.
Example i do things like this, create folder for the following...
TOOLS
MUSIC
VIDEO
ONLINE
NAVIGATION
ECT...
And place corresponding progs into it, so you have some idea as to where a certain program is, its just neater.
Any ideas anybody?, i came across a site where some chap had written a program and had done everything i want to, but it didnt work for me, just kept crashing.
Jesus i could even do this on my nokia.....
Go to \Windows\Start Menu. There you can create folders that will then show up in the start menu and you can reorganize your shortcuts to those folders.
Use JWMD Icon Changer, it works on the HD2.
I'm obsessive about my Start menu order as well, so I definitely can tell you that program works. You can even change the icons since some programs have tiny jagged icons.
Use JWMD Icon Changer
Thats what i tried, but it does not seem to work and its cumbersome.
What am i doing worng?
What problem are you having exactly? It's not really cumbersome, it's a lot nicer than the other alternative which is Showaco's reStart (that one doesn't seem to work on the HD2, anyway).
If you have used the Windows feature to move icons up/down your Start menu list it will confuse this program, so you need to tap any icon you moved in that way and reset it to where it was before.
Then go to JWMD, browse to the folder you want to organize, click on tools and select arrange list. In the next window you can do organize your icons alphabetically or however you like. Then click save and restart your device and it should all work.
How am i supposed to remember what icons i moved in windows, i moved loads, maybe would explain why its not working.
So back to my original point, it does not really work....
Unless i can do a reset of the icons somehow?
If you tap on an icon and it gives you an option to move it to the bottom, it means you moved it to the top using the built-in method at some point.
The program works, it's not its fault you don't remember which icons you moved. If you don't believe me I can post for you a screenshot of my properly alphabetized Start Menu.
Yes i understand that the program is not meant to know and its not its fault, but bear in mind i have been fiddling with this phone for 4 weeks, theres no way in hell i can remember whats been moved where?.
Is there anyway to reset them all in one go, or it makes the prog pretty useless.
I told you, if you tap and hold on an icon and instead of giving you the option to 'move to the top' it gives you the option to 'move to the bottom' it means you used Windows' built-in way to rearrange those icons.
You can go through your list and move all the ones that let you to the bottom and leave the others where they are. Then try Icon Changer and see if it works.
Alternatively you can just hard reset your phone... or wait until a new ROM comes out... it shouldn't be too long away now and that will erase all your data anyway.
ah ill wait for new rom, to much hassle
Well, you're welcome anyway.
