Hi there,
Don't know if this is even possible I've read all the articles I could find here and tried Microsoft web pages. If you can help ill most appreciate it.
(Apologies if this has been answered please let me know the link...)
My internet connection (at home) is via NTL cable, My 4 pc's connect to the internet via a Linksys router, each PC has a private IP address along the 192.168.1.x subnet which NAT to the router for internet access - all transparent.
I do not have a proxy server at home, connection is established because each PC uses the router as a gateway for internet access.
My XDA2 refuses to talk to the internet via Activesync. I can confirm that my handheld connectiviy text bubble says that the internet connection is pointing to the PC connection. the paramaters in Active sync passthorugh are set to internet - But it just won't work.
I even tried configuring the proxy option to the routers address no avail.
The XDA wants to keep defaulting back to its GPRS connection.
At the moment I have disabled the phone completely to stop it dialing out whilst I am testing.
I'm out of ideas can anyone help !!!!!!!!
I managed to fix this problem. I set up a personal proxy server from
http://www.youngzsoft.net/ccproxy/ its an excellent proxy only 815k in size and its intelligent enough to understand NAT'd IP addresses etc for connections to routers.
All I had to do was to configure the XDA 2 work profile with the proxy server address then the internet passthrough worked fine.
For Bluetooth access (I use a D-link USB bluetooth adapter). I had a problem getting the XDA 2 to launch the bluetooth connection under the activesync. I used the excellent pocket bluetooth tools
http://216.239.39.104/translate_c?h...t+bluetooth+tools&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8,
after installing this the connection worked straight away with BT internet access as well.
even though i upgraded to the new O2 rom for the xda2, i still had problems until i resorted back to the bluetooth tools, so i have internet via bluetooth gondle to my adsl. But the internet speed on my xda2 is still damm slow, perhaps its limited by the bluetoot connection speed. (my adsl is a 1mb line plus a netgear wgt624 wireless router connecting my laptop to the internet. any idea how i could get a better speed?
also what i like to do is able to access all shared files on the network or on my actual laptop from my xda2. activesync lets me browse from the laptop, but i can use the xda2 to browse the laptops files. any idea how i could do that? the laptop itsself has a 802.11g connection and an assigned ip address, but i guess that has nothhing to do with the bluetooth connection. so has anyone got any suggestions how i could access the files? some detailes guidance would be extremely welcome. thanks.
Hi I am new to this forum, and like the person above am trying to find a way to browse files on my PC through my XDA2 (i-mate).
I am connected via bluetooth to my PC, activesync is working fine this way, as is internet browsing on my XDA2 using my PC's internet connection.
All I wan't to do is be able to sit away from my PC and get files from it to the XDA2 via bluetooth.
Apparently using Resco File Explorer and a wi-fi connection you can set up a network with your PC, but when I try this with Bluetooth it doesn't work - surely bluetooth can offer the same file sharing - just slower???
Please help us if you know a way!

i got usb wlan adapter. it's ip is 192.168.1.130.
the lan adapter in my pc has 192.168.1.84 ip.
all computers on my local wired network has 192.168.1.* addresses and 255.255.255.0 subnet.
i fixed the IP of SD sandisk wifi adapter on my mda compact to 192.168.1.131.
Usb adapter is in peer-to-peer (ad-hoc) mode and i normaly connect with ppc to it. i got 80-100% signal all the time.
the problem/question #1: why i cant ping from ppc to PC ? firewall turned off.
#2 - if i could ping it, would i be able to ping all the other ip's on my wired network?
#3 - if i could be able to ping all of those computers, how should i set-up a workgroup on ppc and be able to map network drives through wlan link?
#4 - if i would be able to map the drive over wifi link, would i be able to add mine 20.000 mp3s to the pocketmusic's playlist and play them wirelessly?
thanks in advance!
And when i ping from PPC - i see on pc that "received" packets are raising -
ie. now it shows 12 packets received, when i run ping on ppc to pc, the
number increases to 16 (4 pings!) but all are time-outed....
And if the IP on both sides are set to "automaticly", they got assigned
169.254.*.* IP's. Then the ping goes through correctly but i can't still
access the network. The network bridge between LAN and WLAN connection only
made things worser, making my internet connection unusuable (DSL through the
same LAN connection) so i deleted the bridge. Now - ping is going but i
still cant map my pc's drive.... what could be the problem...
Same problem
Dakky,
I have the exact same problem. I bought a Netgear WG111 Wireless USB dongle. I created an ad-hoc network, connected to it but can't connect to the internet or browse my shared. On my desktop the sent packet go up but not the recieved.
Are we both being stupid, can't you connect your PPC to your PC using an ad-hoc network? I have now tried to connect with two different desktops to my XDA and a friends XDA IIs running WM5 to my desktop but had no success. I can connect to an access point and browse file/internet no problem.
I have an XDA EXEC and run XP Pro on desktop.
I've got similar problem. I have Linksys Wireless-G usb network adapter, i assign same class IP adresses (192.168.2.1, 192.168.2.2, mask 255.255.255.0) the wifi connects in ad-hoc modebut how can sync over wifi ?, if I am able to sync over wify i will be able to use my pc's internet connection wich is a lot faster than any gprs/edge
I don't think you can network in this way - basically you have a bunch of clients but no 'server' I think you need a wireless hub (with Internet connection in there somewhere) in there somewhere.
If you do a search on microsoft web site ther is some info about using a PC as an internet share for other PCs but you have to use a very specific IP address rnge for this and set the share PC up in a certain way
I am getting ready to head on vacation and I want to use my 8525 as my "Gateway" as there will be 5 of us with laptops and I want to share my 3G connection so here is what I did. I connect my 8525 to my Laptop via usb, I start internet sharing on the 8525 and in my laptop (vista) under network connections I see Local Area Connection 6, remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device. I right click this connection and select Sharing, and enable internet connection sharing on it. Then what I did was took my router (linksys) and disabled dhcp, but enabled wireless and didnt set any wep or wpa. I connect from my laptop to a port on the router (not the internet port) and then goto another laptop to see if I have internet. I dont, I can see the ssid, I can connect but I do not have internet access. Should I use a crossover cable? What do I have to do so that all of us can have internet thru my phone? Oh, my laptop does have internet (from the usb connection on the phone). I tried to setup the router so that dhcp was enabled, but then I kept getting an ip conflict error, so we cant do that. Also I am not getting an ip on the wireless, it has an ip of like 169.254.177.12.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Jim
There a software which you can install on 8525 and turn it into a wifi internet sharing but I don't know if it capable of handing up to 5 laptops. You might be able to use this software and get a router with some custom firmware which allow bridging then set it up to have router access the internet from 8525 wifi and share it among the 5 laptops but I am not sure if you could bridging and do wifi AP on the same router if not then you'll probably need to have 2 router one to bridge from 8525 wifi and then connect cable to another router that will be an AP for the laptops.
That would be my best guess of doing this unless one of the laptop can do AP via wifi when 8525 is plugged into usb slot.

Hi all.... i have a motorola Q9h with the widcomm bluetooth stack and a PC with bluesoleil 6. I would like to browse the internet with the bluetooth pan connection.
I've configured the pan connection and it connects, but 1st of all, if I connect from the phone, it doesn't get a DHCP IP address. The desktop pc has 192.168.50.1 and the smartphone has 0.0.0.0 (seen with "EM IP Utility").
If I connect from the PC, the two get an automatic private address 169.254.x.x and can even ping themselves, but no internet because with the DHCP not working, the gateway and DNS addresses are not set.
So I tryed with "WLANIpChanger" that lets you set a static config on a smartphone, connefted and verified the settings, i set IP:192.168.50.2, GW and DNS 192.168.50.1, subnet 255.255.0.0 .... shut down the radio to force it use the BT PAN connection, but it won't do it. IE says "cannot connect" and doesn't even try connecting thru the BT PAN (data counters are still).
Does anyone of you know how to get this working?
please help : i ve turned my laptop into hotspot via adhoc
the problem is icant browsing over my hermes although it can see my lap top
please help
First you need to confirm that your laptop has an internet connection available.
Second you need to share the connection , in the connection sharing dialog, you can select your wifi connection as the target of the sharing. After the sharing, your wifi network card will have ip address of 192.168.0.1 , and when your hermes try to connect, hermes will get a ip like 192.168.1.2 , so that it can connect to your laptop and get online.
