How to update STK manager ? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 ROM Development

How to update STK manager ? (Because not working in my BA)
Thanks

That's a problem that doesn't have (yet) a fix!
I think there's no one working on a fix for STK...
Since wm5 that STK doesn't work on BA.

Hi.
I`ve been running WM 6.1, Glass ROM for a couple of days now.
Everything is nearly perfect (some occasional issues getting the WiFi to work, but that`s pretty much it).
However, the STK Manager keeps displaying a message on my phone, with a couple of options at the bottom of the screen: "OK" or "OPTIONS" (under which there are the options "EXIT" and "ABORT").
The only way to get rid of this message is to press "OK", but a couple of seconds or minutes later, there it is again...
Is there a workaround for this? Maybe some tweak in the registry?
Thanks in advance

Don't know why but all WM devices have problems with STK.
I have a application very useful for me in the SIM that i cannot use on the BA due to this STK problem.

Well, for what it's worth, now that I'm no longer "roaming", this annoying and recurrent message has been inactive.
While I was in the UK (my SIM is attached to portuguese VODAFONE provider) this message popped up at least 20 times a day, regardless of the Windows Mobile 6 ROM I flashed my Blue Angel with. Over the last few days I've tried Helmi's, PDAViet, Clean and Glass ROMs and with all of them this "issue" was present.
Since I returned to my SIM-based country it hasn't come up again (it's been 5 hours now, during which I've been using the phone normally and on a regular basis - making / receiving phone calls, sending and receiving MMS and text messages, etc).
I'll keep you posted, should this happen again.
Otherwise, it might be safe to assume that this is a "roaming-related" issue only...
This is definitely a great piece of equipment and although I also have a TyTN PDA, I can think of no reason to use this instead of the Blue Angel. Except of course for the better flash enabled photo / video camera (which make a lot of difference) and the 3G functions (which I honestly don't use).
On the other hand, the TyTN's RAM and ROM are much smaller, not to mention the fact that I've become so accostumed to the Blue Angel's enormous screen, that the TyTN's just seems ridiculously small!!!
Big dilemma here...

XDA2i Problems GPRS, bluetooth, TT3, echo, crashes, etc owow

1. The PDA oftens crashes having previosuly used the phone
2. The TomTom 3 crashes haven driven a short distance
3. The GPRS connection won't connect for a second time without a reset
4. You cant have bluetooth on without flightmode turned off
5. Horizontal Black line across photos in bright light
6. The other caller gets a bad echo when I turn the speaker phone on, even at lowest volume.
7. The last email account added, doesnt download mail
The list goes on. This is truly a terrible device. If it wasnt for the times that things did work fully (rare) and the money I paid for it, it would truly be in the bin!!!
I have read the forums and even after all the hard work people have put in to try and isolate the problems, all of them seem to end up unconclusive regarding the issues I have. I am at my teathers end with this device (
How can the XDA people get away with this, surely they have been approacned about these things? And they say the 2i is better than the 2, blimey I dread to think.....
end rant, thanks for listening
a very disheartened XDA2i user
I recently got an XDAIIi and agree with your post, although 4 is understandable as you shouldn't really be using bluetooth on a plane
I think a lot of the problems are related to third-party software - it might be useful to compare lists of what we have installed, for example I tried out TomTom too and found it ruined the device's stability.
The multiple GPRS connection problem is probably caused by the GPRS monitor program that came on the CD. I had this problem, I uninstalled GPRS Monitor, and GPRS connects correctly every time now.
The camera software is completely flawed, each alternate horizontal line is interchanged before conversion to jpg hence the rubbish quality of the images. Not sure about the horisontal line, but in indoor evening light my XDAIIi was only able to take blurry silhouettes, probably a bug in the automatic brighness control. The camera driver seems to have been sloppily ported from a version for different hardware, and released untested.
The mic pick-up is terrible, and the AGC doesn't seem to make any difference, I get far more people unable to make out what I'm saying than with the plain XDAII. I presume this is another software bug in the AGC.
7 might actually be the bug with all pocketPCs - only the email account currently "open" will auto-download new items periodically.
Also the alarms seem even worse than on normal pocketPCs. As ever I installed WakeupTweak but this time I still missed alarms on a 60s wakup, and had to extend it to 90s.
I have installed Pocket Informant, TT3 (this didnt seem to make anything worse) and have a 1Gb Lexar SD. I did install the GPRS monitor but have since removed it. I think my SD card could be faster, but we keep making excuses for this device.
Re 4, well this was to experiment, as the TT3 crashing has been suggested to be caused by the phone changing cells, but being a Bluethooth GPS I needed flightmode on aswell as BT, which is just about possible but with no definded method other than to confuse it?!? Why the blue blazes they try to force these things I don't know!! I am hoping TT5 will improve this.
re 7. yes i undertand and accept that, but the last one I entered just wont do anything, but not too bothered.
So, as a phone, its rubbish (no speaker phone, crashes, bulky), as a camera it's especially rubbish, as a PDA its ok with wireless in the home, but so long as you dont ask it to do anything out of doors, or even indoors.
These appear on startup, they probably need updating, but not sure where to get the official UK ones

Look forward to hearing about other peoples gripes, next stage with me is probably back to the shop and probably an arguement with some o2 dude.
Perhaps I'm being picky, perhaps I should be happy about giving money away for nothing.
Just scanning through your posts about the IIi. I have had one for about 6 weeks now and haven't experienced any of the problems you describe (not complaining, of course )
I agree that the camera and AGC are not great, but mine behaves itself -- almost typed 'perfectly' there, but that's tempting fate.
I have TT3.07 & Alturion (via a Navman 4410), PocketBreeze 4.3, SPB pocket Plus (+weather add-on)various wifi scanning type programs (I'm a computer tech), a bluetooth neckset, not headset/earpeice and misc. other GPSDash type apps.
Added to this I'm trialling some VITO (navigation/remote/voicedialler) apps and about 300MB of MP3's on a 1GB Sandisk SD card.
My Rom versions are the same as tauria's -- I guess we should all have the same -- there aren't any upgrades/mods yet are there?
The only thing I don't use is GPRS -- don't need it!, otherwise its straight out of the box and saturated in utils and mahjonng/solitaire ( a techies life is sometimes a solitary one  )
I can't offer any advice or help with your problems because I'm not experiencing them, just wanted to add my experience to yours as a sort of balance.
Is it possible you have a couple of rogue devices? or is it possible someone just crayoned an 'i' on mine before sending it out
Me again, I have rememebered that I performed a hard reset and opted for a corporate install, based on some posts relating to the O2 Active software causing problems -- do you have this installed?
I seem to recall there were several thread on this issue, so I went the corporate route to minimise problems.
Maybe that's an area you could look at?
blackfoot I was wondering if you could answer a question.
I just got my mobile phone number transferred to my XDA's SIM today so have used it as a phone for the first time, if i switch off the device (so it's a black screen but phone still active) and it rings it switches on but it just freezes (this only happens with pocketbreeze on the today plugin) I see the fact that the phone is ringing but the box doesn't pop up.
Is there anyway to make pocketbreeze not refresh its data when a call is incoming ? Or does anyone have the same problem?

ActiveSync and Messaging cause a memory leak or sommat?

Hi guys, I've had a look around, but can't find an answer on what I'm babbling on about, so I thought I'd join and ask outright.
I brought an MDA Vario last week on T Mobile, and having used PDAs since the Psion Organiser feel that I'm fairly competent with the technology.
It seems that when ActiveSync or Messaging have been running for any length of time the device slows down to such a grinding halt that it is barely usable. Is this a common issue, and if so, is there a resolution on the horizon. At present, I see the phone as a major downgrade from my 3 year old Axim X5, and I'm hoping someone can reassure me that I haven't been sold a turkey.
Thanks
PG
I think I have the same problem. When I plug in during the evening for a recharge and sync, the device's green LED flashes like normal, but if I press a button or the screen, it is slowed to a ridiculous and unuseable speed (like minutes to draw a screen such as Programs), and a soft reset is needed.
It does happen on AS connection or during/after syncing; I am using AS 4.1 and a T-mob vario with a selective ext ROM install.
Anyone got any ideas please?
Joe
Glad I'm not imagining it. I found a regitstry hack that gives you application cache that seems to improve it, but I still do at least three reboots a day.
Hi,
I got a QTek9100 2 weeks ago and noticed exaactly the same thing. For the first few days, the device was really fast, but it slowed down days after days.
Even a soft reset doesn't fix this.
I finally fixed that yesterday (hope so) and it's again pretty responsive.
What have I done:
- Removed synchro to Outlook e-mails (I don t use it anyway)
- Emptyied the Outlook e-mail box
- In Activesync: Declared that I was connecting to a Server, changed schedules to "Manually", then removed the server.
Since then, no more ActiveSync starting by itself (it still works perfectly when I connect via USB), no more slowness.
The other IMAP and POP3 mail accounts works well, and the performances are good.
Hope this will help.
Thanks the add/remove serversync tip helped me.
After having tried the direct push my device never had more than about 7 or 8 MB free program memory.
Now I am back on 11 to 12 MB. Still not muchm but better than it was.
I still dont know why i have so little memory available.
I am only running in background:
IIWPO
SmartSkeys
MS Voicecommand
and few extra today plugins:
Wireless
SIM status switcher (Wivit, WM2003 version)
HTCTodayscreen
Cant imaging this (together with the WM5 overhead takes up 32 of the available 45MB program memory!!!
Any extra clues??

Anyone come across Access Violation at 0x178c (0,0) on Launcher.exe?

Wizard G3,
ROM cooked by MFrazz, (WM6)
SPL/IPL DOWNgraded from 3.08 to 2.26 (not sure why or what this does?) GSM 2.47.11
I tried to install Launcher partially because I am a nerd who wants an iPhone screen for the shock value. I also installed the slider though I can't quite figure out where it has installed as it SEEMS to be in the folder (my folder) where Launcher is as opposed to in its own folder?? (which it should be if it is a stand-alone application?) In any event I don't use it as I cant get it (the most recent version) to stay on while Launcher is operating (and it doesn't seem to have been written with the Wizard landscape/portrait modes in mind) so I don't bother. Also the unit gets quite hot while launcher is on so I didn't want it to get any hotter!
In any event, looking in the log I see that Launcher.exe seems to have caused these curious access violations AND was giving the error message: CANNOT ALLOCATE VARIABLE LPARAM$, NOT ENOUGH MEMORY, (which I don't believe).
Is this some incompatibility with the ROM or something or does anyone know what is causing this please?
The only other problem with the unit is one which I have asked a few times (and a few people have reported) and no one knows the answer: The ear piece/speakerphone doesn't work on VoIP. I wouldn't imagine that is related to this error message.
Is there possibly a different ROM which would be more compatible with the software (and VoIP service) which doesn't incorporate things like the EDGE and Windows Today services which I don't use? I thought I was reasonably happy with this MFrazz one which seems OTHERWISE quite trouble free? Oh, and the battery heats up a bit and sometimes turns the screen white: On which eventuality you cant turn it on, - you have to plug in the USB cable again. (I turned the clock back to 195 from 221 to see if it did anything for this: If I cant get VoIP working just yet there doesn't seem to be any point in over-clocking it? And Mfrazz's ROM seems to work well at any clock speed! Except possibly for the codecs, if that is what it is )
I get nervous when I see access violations but this all occurred on July 7th.
Does it sound serious to anyone?

HD2 often doesn't wake up ?

Hi
My HD2 often fails to wake up when I press any of hard button. Before I perform a hard reset I wanted to ask you guys if there are any tweaks or apps which might be causing this. I am using the stock T-Mobile UK firmware, and besides tweaking a few settings via BsB Tweaks, the phone is pretty much in its original state.
My previous HD used to do this for a time, until I realized it started happening after setting up Windows Exchange server. After hard resetting and setting everything up again, it worked fine. I wonder if the problem I have with the HD2 is also due to the exchange server.
Sometimes the phone does wake up a couple of minutes after I pressed buttons, sometimes an incoming SMS helps it. And many times it just wakes up as it should when I press the Home or power button.
I don't have many apps installed, besides Tomtom.
Cheers !
Hi, the same was to me: sent an sms, locked the device, tried to unlock it in half an hour - screen blank, no response to buttons at all. ROM is stock. I remember, I also had TomTom installed and some other popular tweaks, not remember which exactly. After it, I did hard-reset the phone (restored original state). Didn't had the same problem after it.
But had a lot of other problems with HD2 - unsent sms even after sms fix from HTC, unlock screen of S2U2 locked completely (someone was calling me at this moment!), sporadic change of clock time zone...
It is my first smart-phone, and I'm disappointed soooo much... Used "true" mobile phones for years, but never had such problems.
I had the same problem but it's seemed to have stopped (for about 2 days now). It got to the point where the phone wouldn't get past the boot screen! I had to re-flash in the end....
I think it may be related to the applications I may have running. Although, most people are saying the ROMs so far are not 100% stable. (I'm running the Official Test version of 1.61)
The things I've done to try to get around it is :
- Ensure .NET compact frame work is installed to set up 3.5 and set up correctly in the registry
- Once in a whie I run the cleanRAM application that's been developed here on these forums
I don't think I've found the total solution yet, but I'm sure having these in check will help.
To give an update :
I did a hard reset yesterday. (it's always painful, but also exciting as you can set it up from start - sad i know)
This time I set up the windows exchange server straight from the beginning, then installed all the tweaks, tomtom, hotfixes etc. It woke up everytime since then, touch wood !
I'm not sure, but there are security policies pushed through to the device (like making screen lock compulsary etc) when I set up the exchange server, maybe this is causing some sort of conflict with the device, which is maybe somehow avoided when you set it up before anythin else... I dunno.
I'll let you know if it fails to wake up again.
By the way, so far I only installed BsB tweaks, but didnt apply any tweaks yet. I changed the battery percentage display, 16 quick links cab, and 3G switch in the Coms Manager, but that's it. No tweaking in the registry yet, just so that I can determine the root cause if it happens again. But so far it looks good ! It also seems faster (as it always does
Is it still running stable ?
Chaps,

It has been pretty much stable. Since the hard reset I was adding (or tweaking) tweaks and cabs in a controlled manner to see which one might be causing the freezing.
After I installed the Disable Auto Device Lock.cab (search the forum, I think it is in the sticky Tips and Tricks post), my HD2 didn't wake up a few times. I uninstalled dit and it is working fine again.
Weird, but maybe that's the registry change that conflicts with the exchange server policies that are pushed to the device, and causes the freeze.

Improving stability

Hi
Glad I came across this forum - very in depth
I've had an HTC Touch 2 for about 5 months now. I wanted a Windows device initially and wanted full Exchange sync capabilities including tasks, etc.
The phone does everything I wanted it to but for two things:
1. Flash doesn't work
2. It's unstable
On the first point Opera doesn't seem to work with Flash anyway but it has both IE and FlashLite installed, and yet the BBC iPlayer still does not work even in IE.
The "movie" loads in so far as the "home screen shot" comes up but no PLAY button, it just whirs round in a circle endlessly.
Can this be solved?
On the second point, I had a Windows device (called the Orange SPV I think) years ago which was ergonomically almost useless. This new Windows device is much more usable but deeply unstable.
Most problems occur when an app crashes when the phone is locked with the effect that the OS seems to go down with it like Windows 95, so you can't actually take the unit out of locked mode - the slider thing doesn't have any effect.
I have to take the battery off the back and cold reset it about 2 or 3 times a week. A bit like the old Orange SPV it has the feel of something so nearly ready to go to market, but for a little more testing.
Does anyone know if this is just Windows and the answer is to go for another OS (if possible, else the only solution is to ditch the handset altogether), or if a subsequent update makes things more stable?
Apparently I have ROM version 1.28.401.4 (66092)
Grateful for any advice.
Thanks,
Mark
