Req [GPS loc uploaded to net] - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I was thinking it would be sweet to have an app that would upload your gps location to the internet so a third party could track your location. Anyone have any interest in making it?
Thanks

Already done:

I've used it and it works great...

its done, but doesn't mean it can't be redone
I'm working on the same type of project (the main reason for buying an XDA Orbit ).
Only works on my PC and website at the moment, but will be making a slim wm6 client for posting data to my website plus incorporating some other logging sites as well (your man TrackMe, GpsGate, plus some others).
dgold21, don't be put off, its a great learning experience, especially when you get it all linked up and your kids can watch you coming home

Requesting Soulseek P2P App Port for PPC

I would love to see this wonderful program being ported to WinMo, as there is even a great port of it for the iPhone.
Who's Interested in developing this?
I would've done it by now, but have no prior or current programing experience what-so-ever.
Sweet
I didn't know there was soulseek for the iphone. that is sweet. Lets rally em up boys. Develop WMSLSK. Show em how its done.
Theirs gotta be someone who's at least mildly interested, Please post a reply saying you may give this a chance, or even better a GO.
I wish
I wish I was a programmer. Sadly I only know web design type stuff. If you don't know what soulseek is check out http://www.slsknet.org
This is a great idea!
That's not a bad idea. There used to be an eDonkey client for ppc called Mopiphant, but it was more of a proof of concept. I enjoy using Wuzam to download songs on the go, though lately I've had best results with Opera as they've revamped the site. I also recommend JimmyR.com's mp3 search which is a frontend for searching google for mp3's. Might be two good alternatives until a PPC port of a good P2P program is developed.
Cheers
So I did some searching around and I remembered a program from years back called "Pocket G2" which had it's development ceased for some reason. But I checked it out again and actually found a downloadable copy here: http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/4/734745/PocketG2Pro-2401_PPC.ARM.CAB
Anywho, here's the dirt. Pocket G2 requires a 3.3 mb install and Net1.0CF which is included in the hefty install. I couldn't get any searches to work at first, but I looked around and found this Gnutella network server cache http://gcachescan.jonatkins.com/
Just click on a few of the server addresses on that site and copy the url into G2 so you'll be able to search the network. The url's should start with http:// ... and end with .php, though others may work, I haven't yet tested as the setup I have now seems to work fine for me. I did experience a crash when my device powered off and brought up S2U2.. not sure if disabling power management would fix the issue or if there is a conflict there, but I'll keep testing and post an update later. Let me know what you guys think.
Cheers

Ive actually tried Pocket G2. its extremely buggy, always crashing, and even left minimized would eventually terminate.
Ugh, i would totally LOVE to see a Soulseek port for WinMo... I have Winmobile Torrent for my phone already, Making me feel a lot better that my phone can actually be used in advantageous moments. (w00t big words )
Otherwise, i looked around, not really many notable P2P Apps for Mobiles yet... such a shame. Sept wmtorrent.
rebump :-/
Comn peoples, is there not 1 person who is capable of coding this? Should i ask the guy who ported it to iPhone to make a WinMo Port? he probably has no Coding experience for WinMo tho...
ANYONE~~!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
been using g2 for about a year, the alpha and the beta are in the list on my sig.
it does crash on occasion but the beta is fairly stable

Trace-Me (live location/story/picture tracker)

Trace-Me enables you to trace where you’ve been and augment that information with pictures and stories that you’ve taken on the road. It’s especially nice for holidays or any other trip. It can be used by yourself to afterwards see where you’ve been and what you’ve done, but you can also give your friends and family the opportunity to watch where you are live in real time.
Trace-Me is in beta and is free to use.
for more information goto: www.traceme.org
Interesting app.......
cool idea.
I guess it uses only GPS and not any triangulation stuff.
So, my qtek s200 is off the table.
For now it only uses GPS that's right. Triangulation would be a nice feature to add. I'll scribble it down on my 'wanted features' list.
Neat, I love the idea.
Triagulation
Yeah.. i´m out too.. please please use triagulation also...
google must have some api for it... as google map mobile uses triangulation...
I'm developing for (Compact) .NET. So I would need some C# code to do the triangulation or at least get the cell ids and hook them up to some database. Feel free to leave any tips behind.
of course you can always use an external GPS if your phone doesn't have an internal GPS
I've managed to get some code working that uses cell ids to fetch position instead of GPS. So all people without GPS enabled phones should now be able to use Trace-Me aswell.
Since this is pretty fresh stuff I could really use some volunteers for testing this stuff. Please send an email to [email protected] if you want to test this stuff. Or goto the Trace-Me forum (goto English->General and reply to the 'volunteer to test non-GPS location algorithm' topic)
Ok it seems I've had some major problem with people trying to access the website and actually see their data. Something with cross domain and flash and webservices and all that jazz.
Since the webservice is running from my own domain I would very kindly like to ask a bunch of you to visit this link and please tell me that you're seeing (should take about 1 minute MAX!) a drives list at the left side of the screen (16e heenreis, 17e lagos, etc, etc).
Just leave a reply in here thanks!
I'm seeing your drives list.
k, awesome, it seems to work for everyone now

[X] WApps - A windows mobile "appstore"

I got the idea to make a application finder software for Windows Mobile. Specially designed to HTC Diamond, with many G-apps & games and other nice apps. It's under development now, and i will release one screenshot for you.
This app will not be just an styled IE-frame, like many "appstore" like apps that have been released before.
19. October 2008:
New Screenshot of the start screen.
Development stopped, becouse of the Gecko project.
I think this is a phenominal idea. The idea that went around recently was an internet based solution through ie explorer and it just was not device friendly. To have a device based solution is much more sensable. If you could create a server that developers could upload their most recent programs too that would be the best.
Maybe contact the system admin on this site and see if he will give your program to access the sites FTP server or something. Then a user could use your device based program that would seemlessly connect to the interenet in the back ground, poll the server for software, sort it and place it into a thumb friendly interface on the phone by which it could be sorted into categories of games, utilities, themes, programs etc etc....
Of course the admin would have to create those categories on the site's side and the developers would need to upload their program to the correct one but I think everyone has been in such a need for this that they would be willing to do it without much arm twisting.
Or, you could create device user interface that interacts with Orb.com... But then you would have to get the updates of programs and upload them to ORB for your program to work. But ORB does already have a sorting feature that your user controls on the device could be made to access for sorting etc. It even has a video section that a user could download tutorials of different programs that someone took time to make.
All just ideas. Some you may find good or not. I am excited to see a device based program though. It make user intereaction easier.
Curious G.
yes
Its a good idea, keep working on it
seems to be a nice idea
I like the idea but this really depends on what will be offered / how updated the actual site behind the store application is. Have you had any thoughts on that yet?
i second that.
at this time i browse via opera tho xda to download stuff... but having a app that simplifies things would be even better...
maybe all the downloads here could be managed and put upto "youre" server in an automated way..
I remember seeing this article a few weeks ago about Microsoft creating their own app store.
http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/n.../job-advert-reveals-microsoft-skymarket.phtml
Either way, it's certainly a good idea!!
I forward the notion. An app that has all the apps at hand for easy download by category would kick some serious asss..
If I can help in any way let me know.
Greetings to all.
Love this development. Maybe this progress will open up eyes on new skilful programmers and we will see an increase of good looking apps and games. Not that I don't just love the things going on here at xda. But the more the merrier, right? The only complaint that I might have on this forum is the all the threads with wallpapers and especially the ones with half-naked women...But that's me...
So an app store (or two) is going to make it easier for us to sort out what we are interested in and only that.
If needed count me in I can help develop..
Great idea.
In the spirit of AppToDate, which I found worked very very well. But with YouTube-app like interface, all connected to database were latest apps can get installed.
Great idea!
I'm working to figure out how to connect to MySQL from a windows mobile based device, does anyone here know?
double post****
i think if these two threads could be incorporated
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428480
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433913
that would be a good way to do storage
each developer could use have there own account and then whenever they updated there app they update the wapps link via web or give it like some type of flash capabilities that would be really great
or there could be a generic account that ever one uses to upload too
looks like this is in the works http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=436127
maybe some collabo might be nice
Nice project!! GoOd Luck!!
If there was a way to advertise this app when it gets made. the diamond would sell millions
Why not just modify a RSS feed reader?

Maybe Sqlite is more accurate for a mobile device ?
And you just download the sqlite file available on a server, this way requests would be very fast.

Yes, every time you start it will update from the web or you can click on a button to update (or an 'update every x minutes' function
please keep up the hard work!!!!! love to see this appstore happen!

[REQ][DEV] Map My Run App

There has been increasing demand for a windows mobile version of imap.
iMapMy (powered by MapMyFitness is a location-based application that uses the built in GPS technology on your iPhone to allow runners, cyclists, (or any outdoor fitness activity) to track their daily training data, including:
* Total Time
* Total Distance (in miles or kilometers)
* Pace (minutes per km/mile) or current speed
* Average Speed / Pace (km/mile)
* View your running maps directly on your iPhone
* Training Log including Distance, Calories Burned, Time, and Date
* Add Your Workout to Twitter
Some requests have been sent into the map my run team, but I was wondering if some of the amazing people here might be able to develop this. Maybe people have been using g-watch and uploading their gpx files to the mapmyrun website, but the application would be pretty convenient to have, and hopefully more accurate than the geocatching on g-watch. That being said, g-watch has been amazing!
I am not a programmer and cannot offer much as far as help beyond testing, but I am sure the app would be greatly appreciated by me and the map my run community (who I would surely share this with).
Please respond or PM me if you are willing to take up the challenge or have any ideas or suggestions.
Thanks.
Hi!
There are actually (at least) two applications available on the WinMo platform that has some of the requested features.
1) Ageye G-Watch (that you obviously are aware of)
2) GPS Cycle Computer v3
None of the above mentioned applications have all the features of iMapMy, but I guess that this are the two best candidates to adopt new features, because both applications are free (GPS Cycle Computer is even open source). I guess that you could contact the authors and discuss further development.
Regards,
PK
Thanks for the suggestions! I am putting GPS Cycle on my phone right now. I am going to see about hooking the developers and mapmyrun to get a fully integrated mapmyrun app too.
You might also want to check BikeDashboard:
http://bikedashboard.mathieugardere.com/
It also has some of the features you requested. And a little donation to the developers might help to convince them to put in the rest of these features
Check out www.sportypal.com
I use RunGPS trainer which is brilliant (but paid), downloaded sportypal yesterday and it looks like it may have some similar features and its free.
I also recommend RunGPS. It has more features than I need, really (routing, heart rate monitor etc), but I do like the options for lap detection, voice output of various stats, map and route downloading from multiple sources and a very thorough (if not very aestehtically pleasing) portal to upload information to ( http://www.gps-sport.net , although it can also upload to a couple of other independent sites)
It doesn't have Twitter integration afaik, but there are widgets and static images that you can put on websites with some information.
If there's one feature that I miss from Nokia Sportstracker on Symbian, it would be using the accelerometer as a pedometer. This was pretty accurate on my old N95, even when just walking.
have you tried track my run?
click me
in germany there is smartrunner, its covering all of your needs:
http://www.smartrunner.de
+1 for SportyPal.
You can actually track your run/bike/rollerblade etc, then upload it to your sportypal.com page, and view the stats. You can even share it with your friends!!
(PLUS ITS FREE!)
Thanks for all the suggestions. I have so much research to do now! I am also going to share this trhead with the peeps over on the mapmyrun forum so they can take a look at all the optison they have.
Kind of redundant
I think Sporty Pal just saved me from buying a garmin. Now I just need a armband for my fuze and Im ready to roll!
+1 sporty pal
Now I just have to find out if it has some kind of virtual runner =)

[App] EpDetect (epileptic seizures detector)

EpDetect is an accelerometer based mobile phone application that uses advanced signal processing to detect epileptic seizures.
To get more informations and downloads go to official site http://www.epdetect.com
This is official development thread (see development page on http://mobile.dlugosz.net.pl/Products/EpDetect/tabid/60/Default.aspx)
wow!
this is really impressive. I had a friend who had seisures.
Nice work.
This is amazing... it was the time for this type of app.
Please go further with this type of stuff..
First tests with first aid personsal (friends) today
Hi dally,
after some tests with persons who now the moving part is on an epi moment we had have ony 3 alarms of 10. So i think is something with the advanced settings.
The next point is when we go the settings then bluetooth will be activated (see screenshot). But the phone has an internal gps receiver. Is this something what is missing in the moment? Or it is about the beta? The setting is com4 or com7. I am not shure what the internal port is on a TP2.
The desk is very clear and esay to use. What is with the worldwide logo in the main screen or something else, i think this will be good not only black in not activated status. Some public will be good for the app ;-).
You have created a very good program. I hope you can help me with the settings in advanced mode, because the acceleration settings (alarm = movement * threshold).
Hi dally,
no action since september last year. You are allways online and in development of this tool? I have asked more then once for support, also on the commercial main site. But no one gives me an answer....
This is (was?) an international project and UK side is silent since over year. I also don't know whats going on. But if you have problems with current version you can ask me, maybe i could help.
OK dally, i will do that. I have to re-install epdetect and ask my collegs that we do our tests again, so as written in one of my posts above.
I have asked because this app has so many possibillities to help people that i will push this app in my range...
In my free time i working for hospital and help needed persons security (cam's and other things). My day job i am writing software for the industrial automation control. Many, many work but it is worth. Because that i am very busy with rcolonel's webcam application. Some guys have seen this app on my phone while i was busy with my work there. And now everyone will have it. Small fast and it is working. The other tool webcamXP is to big and to slow for me. Your app.. i know so many people who need this..
Thank you for your response...
For those interested: Android version is available. See this post.
