They call me Damian. I'm a second-year mechanical engineering major at Polytechnic University. I LOVE listening to hip hop, mostly underground mixtapes and old skool stuff.
I've been here for almost a week I think lol. I got my Wing December 7th I believe. Its my first experience with Windows Mobile Professional. At first I was like, "Wow, this thing is great... cept for that problem where I can't run Windows Media Player and the Camera all at once." Well, thanks to all the hookups here, I can run Windows Media Player, the Camera, Opera Mobile 4, Pocket IE, AIM, and the Programs Loader all at once with 7 megs to spare
My most used programs are:
Phone
Windows Media Player

YaY for Ivan....There is still hope for Gimpy!!!!!
My name is Chris, no surprises either, and I am a second year medical student in Las Vegas, NV. My Tmo Wing is the first ppc I've had any experience, and I have quickly realized how much easier my life is. I currently run Ivan's stripped down bluepad so I can truely customize it to the max. HTC home, Batterystatus (273), S2U2, and all the other "essentials" make me a very happy Wing owner. But the programs that get the most use currently are the stock calendar and email, and The Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy 2007 (kinda nerdy, I know). In my free time, which there doesnt seem to be much of anymore, I check xda, spend time with my lovely wife, and watch/play football depending on the time of the year.

My name is David Duprat, which I guess is pretty obvious from my posts. haha. I am originally from Puerto Rico, and I have lived in PR, South America, Europe and now the USA. I speak English, Spanish, French and Portuguese. I am huge computer and gadget dork.
I am currently in my last semester at Auburn University in the state of Alabama, although I had left school 2 years ago and moved to Atlanta, Georgia to work in real estate. August 2007 I returned to the University to study and I am finishing May 2008 in International Relations/Political Science. As of now, I don't know what to do, but so far I am either going to pursue Law School or a Master's in Public Administration next..
My first HTC device was a T-mobile MDA (HTC Wizard) and I currently have a T-mobile Wing (HTC Herald/Atlas)
I am fan of ITJE's & ASerg's work.
I have plenty of favorite programs... I'm not big into games, but I'm more of a utilities freak, so I am always seeking out little stupid programs to make the phone run better or my life easier.

What part of PR? I'm from Utuado.
I am a 22 year old named Mike from Tampa, FL. I am a music major (Jazz Comp and Guitar Performance) so the techy stuff isn't really my forte but I am learning and doing the best I can. I am married to an IT Tech... so I get help from him if I need it, but thankfully, I haven't needed his help yet. For all the mods I've done so far, I have made sure to do my research so I don't mess anything up. Unlike some other newbies, I don't run blindly...
I started with some old school Nokia, then a MOTO v300, v600, v330... I've had a few Razr's and even tried my hands with a Sidekick. I've slowly moved up in the world and now own my Wing. I love it. The Wing is also the first PPC I've owned.
I am running these programs/hacks currently:
BatteryStatus
Slide2Unlock
HTC Home
HHC Home Customizer
Audio Manager (for HTC)
iContacts (tho I have also run PocketCM... both have their +'s and -'s)
Current version of Live Search
My Mobiler
PHM RegEdit
TCPMP and the FlashVideoBundle apps for my Youtube addiction
M&M Marshall Dialpad Skin (altho I also really like the Nargz iPhone Dialpad. I will probably re-install that)
6MB Page Pool
SIP Change/Touchpal
NoSentMessage Hack
BatteryAndPerformance Hack
...as well as a few registry hacks that I can't remember off the top of my head.
I have also used these programs:
Pocket Informant
Palringo
Pocket Sportscenter
WeatherPanel
Happy Tapping SIP
The Cube/TouchFlow
Touch-IT Rom (on my old device... I had to replace it because it changed too many of the core settings and I couldn't get them back... even after a hard reset and countless hours with tech support lol)
PocketNester
Total Commander
Grumps iPhone
Lazyboy's iPhone
I would have to say all the ones I currently have installed would be my favorites. The one exception is the dialpad. I think they are both great.. and most definitely an improvement over the stock dialpad, but I really wish I found some more options. I haven't really looked much either tho.
BTW, I posted a link to some .zip's that have most of those programs and hacks in there over at the PPCGeeks forum. For those of you that are lazy like I am, you can get them here lol:

i've been using the O2 mini for a couple of month & have done all the upgrades that are mentioned in this forum.
I still belive that HTC can make a lot of improvements for all its products coz we all pay a reasonable high price for them.
I am quite happy with my mini but i still think it is a jack of all trades master of none.
I therefore decided to make a list of some of the shortcommings..
i hope most members will add to this & hopefuly HTC may deliver us a better product.
here goes
QVGA screen for 256k res
Bigger Rom
More RAM
Faster Processor
WI-FI
USB2.0
Better quality of speakers..Sterophonic sound is bad/jars[look at sonyericsson/nokia]
Better lens for camera[sonyeric again!]
Better software for camera
FM radio
this is just for starters...
regards all,
frz
O2 Atom???
Regards,
Arto.
Well it seems to me that the newer devices are more to your specs.
Don't get me wrong in this, I agree with your list. & I'm very curious what next year will bring us.
regards, M
Are you guys sure you are in the right forum ?
This is Universal Forum and not Magician
Cheers

Yup I'm sorry, noticed it that too, maybe a mod can 'move' it to the magician forum.
I have a Boss GT-76h hoover. Do You know which are the best settings for the dust bag? It stucked hoove-loader mode. Anybody has the latest DustiveSync? I'm using 0.004beta. I'd like to buy PollenCommander 2.4, I hope it will solve the problem.
Hi T,
That pollen extension is very good, I'm using it for three weeks & no allergic reactions anymore. Where did you get DustiveSync 0.004beta? I used 0.001beta and that was so sluggish and hard to get rid of too :-( Now I use a thirdparty sync called MustSync but that only works when connected to an AC socket, very strange. I did manage to get 1200rpm though with it & that's only 50% performance decrease, so I'm very pleased afterall.
If you have any great tips for the Boss GT-76h then post them pls, maybe we can even get a forum for it!
Ciao, M
Hi Oltp!
I bought DustiveSync on the PollenGear.com. You can find it if you put it to the Search. Buy it now this is on a special sale, just 1359$!!!
Yes I heard that problem about MustSync, but the only method to work with it is to upgrade your hoover's SocketRadio ROM, but a lot of people said it is a lot more expensive with the electricity costs.
PollenGear.com ? Oooh man that's so obvious, I feel so stupid should have known that. I usually go to VacuShop.nl great service next day delivery, in Dutch though. Those guys from DustiveSync are good, they even sell there beta's?? I tried my beta for free 9 months ago. Am I saying 9 months funny my wife birth to an elephant last week.
Can it be?
BTW ever been to dust-developers.com? Great forum full of tips & well can't say that without being a sexist, check it out yourself I'd say.
I've got to pass on the special offer, last month I did a wireless extension for $750 & now I can't afford much more.
See you, M
Yes, They sell beta's. After Macrodust Loosedows products they diceded to make unfair businesses like them. For this news leader of Macrodust ( Kill Bates ) had a terrible reaction: they suspended Loosedows XP's selling and prohibited any using it. After that PollenGear.com site was crashed, and Macrodust had hoovered all the remaining software-dust from the internet.
Now Macrodust's saying: We are laughing at the end!
Yeah I guess they've won, they really crushed a lot of others. Don't like all off the MacroDust products, but I secretly admire Kill Bates. What ever he does, he does very good, really kills every other in the market. I'm way to soft for that. I probably have other capabilities, probably :-( not so sure anymore after crashing my previous, known indestructible, PowerDust G4. It was really blown to pieces after the modded cooling was replaced. Took me a fair two days to get a new hoover & remove all partikels.
One last question did you try VacuPal?
Best regards, M
Yes

the site u linked is in duthc and i cannot understand some things.
looking around it seems android is still under development.
could you tell me something more?
tnx
No Other "fully functional" OS exists for the device.
just out of curiosity how long have you been using the device?
first month or so of using windows mobile is always tedious... but when you get used to it.. you wont want to go back (I got a nokia N95 and regretted it)

hi there.
i'm using the pda since 3 months.
by now i've quite stopped customizing it or "playing" with since i find win mobile set up quite messy.
i came from nokia smartphone series and found symbyan the best os for mobility ever.
fully customizable, fast, stable and above all build with "few clicks" philosopy.
with official win 6 rom, in order to reach a sub menu i have to dig into folders and tabs getting annoyed really fast.
start menu is almost not customizable, i cannot move links where i like, well they could have done a far better work insetad of that.
maybe changin rom passing to an unofficial one could give me some more satisfaction, but i'm not sure since the starting point is the same.
i hope i could explain myself at an understandable basic level ^^
sorry for my horrible english
bb.
Oh,now I get it. Phone people keep moaning about how Windows doesnt behave like symbian. Duuuh! Let go of your complete reliance on the d-pad(its a Symbian thing),you have a touch screen now,use it.

he, he, interesting post. I also spent a lot of time trying to simplify my phone interface. There are many great programs and tips on that forum. However, the first time I had an iPhone in my hands, I admitted its interface is 8 levels ahead of M$. Now, what we need is a fully customizable, fast and stable OS. Might be Android since HTC signed the partnership. Let's see. Anyway M$ got to react quickly otherwise they might be out of the game soon.

anyway, any hint to improve wm6?
i totally agree with you...
windows mobile is very complicated becuase it has all these extras that the average cell phone user will never even bother using....word, excel, ppt, etc. while business users thrive on these features.....
i am an average cell phone user but the only reason why i got the 8525 is because of the large qwerty keyboard so i can text a lot, but i wish the interface was as simple as a normal phone, maybe google android will fix this problem in the future =)
extra features do not make something complicated. complicated to you maybe. Very simple and easy in my opinion, besides, its near identical in operation and style to desktop windows, which everyone, even mac users are familiar with.
buying a hermes for just quick sms is like buying a a ferrari to get to the shops... should have bought a sidekick.
"because of the large qwerty keyboard so i can text a lot"
tests show that young fanatics could sms alot! faster then a good typist on a normal sized keyboard could type
they only one who could beat the young sms fanatics was freaky enthusiast old school telegraphs people
if a full keyboard was all the requirements then a nokia comunicator would prob be closer to fitting the need of a normal gsm user who just wanted a keyboard

Check out HTC home. you can add 8 programs to the quick launcher.
Or since you seem to be such a fan of the iPhone, why not install the iPhone interface for hermes http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302739&highlight=iphone
or you can even look into the HTC touch interface.
I think thatif you look at thoes, they will help with your situaltion.
BTW, you should look in the TyTn/Kaiser forums for specific infomation to your phone. this one is for the older TyTn(8525).
Mate, go ahead and install Mobile 6! It is a lot better than the old WM5. Make sure you get a "cooked" version from this site, one with a built in HTC cube, HTC plugin etc. You will not fail to be impressed. Did I mention that you can use a 8 meg micro card for extra storage? Try doing that with an I-Phone!

Doesnt the iphone have 16 gigs
He meant 8 gigs of sdhc ram and if you factor in that you can have as many as you can afford then your software and music and video options are very near limitless

Just wondering? I'm playing with the thought of selling my Touch HD. Getting a bit tired of Windows Mobile. Anyone else?
But I'm asking myself, if I can live with the smaller screen and lower resolution?
Im thinking of doing the exact same and my main concerns are screen size and lack of radio. The radio, which i don't use that often, i can overcome by using web radio. But the screen size and resolution is making me consider it carefully.
I've only been using windows mobile for about 6 months but im getting bored. I've looked at all the apps i use and theirs alternatives available on android for all of them.
Has anyone here swapped WinMo for Android?

I did. I have used winmob for 9 years :S Seriously.
I moved to Android Hero on release day last week.
I sent the Android back on Monday and am back on winmob.
There are (currently) apps and 'things' that Android cannot do to the same quality as winmob. I don't for a minute think that situation will be like that forever, but, atm, Satnav is not as good on Android. Syncing is not as good on Android. I missed the hardware keyboard (not a prob for an ex-touch HD user of course )

HTC Sync is not the best.. well.. its crap.
I sync with Googlemail though, always have and then I have an app on my computer which syncs with Outlook and Googlemail, so don't need to plug the phone in, I have no issues!
CoPilot is a good piece of kit, IF you have bought it. The pirate versions have many many flaws in it, so I presume this is what you mean by that? Obviously TomTom has been around a bit longer so had many years to get its quirks out of its system, I remember it on Symbian and my old XDA II, it was pants then, but nice now.
Just moved from many years on WinMo to Android and I'll give it that, its different. There are some things it won't do as good as a WinMo device, but other things it will excel on. But lets face it, its different, its not WinMo, its not Apple, hence why I want it, something different.
Not everyone will want it, but I've had a Touch HD and moved to a TP2 (0.2" screen difference) then moved to this and its fine, screen size is spot on for me, no complaints at all.
I bought Copilot on Friday night and tested it on a purely vanilla Android config. Nothing else installed. It crashed each time I exited. It also did not have my second tested postcode in it. Thankfully the refund function on Android marketplace worked very well, otherwise that would have been another £25.99 wasted.
More serious was the crashing though. Just kept locking up when I exited the app.
I too run Outlook sync>googlemail on my PC. But, for contracts this is a convoluted process of exporting to a .csv > gmail. It's a kludge and not good. The calendar via gmail syncs well but not the contacts. Pretty basic stuff and should be resolved at first hit and capable locally.
Under Vista, HTC sync hardly works, it's pointless being there. All these issues are exactly why apple is sewing up the market. Their stuff is much more user friendly. I have never had an iphone and probably never will, but fundamental issues that affect the user experience such as the ability to sync are essential for the success of a phone. As I was used to Activesync in Winmob land and that worked seamlessly, why would anyone struggle with an equivalent that doesn't work?
Hero displays a great insight to the future of open phone OSs. It's really exciting to experience. When the flaws are resolved I will be back on board for sure
My main problem is the size of the on-screen keyboard. I've been using palm-held devices to write for years now, so the keys on the Hero are just too damned small. If an Android handset came out with a display the same size as the HD, I would be very tempted. If there's an application on the Market that lets you actually edit Word-type files...

I did - but I still have the WM device but am not using. I am bored of WM for now. I will continue to use android as its a fresh and exciting to try something new and a great change, which ill get even better when I start customising the device more.

Seriously! nine years?
I presume you include your Pocket PC experience with that as WM has only be out six
ive been using windows since the original SPV. I've pretty much had every device ever released from HTC. Just sold my HD and got the Hero - I dont think I will be going back to windows again - unless something spectacular happens in Windows 7!

Yep, PPC as well as. I am pwoppa old school (just old really!)
I always had a soft spot for the SP5. I still have one of those and it gets use when I am on a night out, ie, more portable but still carrying the details I need.
Thats the way I feel winwiz, so do other people I know fortunate enough to have the G1.
I have been using a PDA since Apple's newton days and progressed to my first PocketPC in 2000 (Compaq) and on to my first WM device which was the SPV M600 (HTC Prophet) which is still in use now. The Trinity was next SPV M700 (also still in use) and then last year I got a Hong Kong version of the Diamond.
During my time with these devices the experience has nearly been the same thanks to the user interface. The Hero and android is a welcome change, although there are things I will miss with WM - I look forward to the further developments of the Android OS and the missing things with WM will soon appear in one form or another.

That is for sure. These are exciting times.
They need a direct sync for Outlook Contacts, call me crazy but I don't trust Google with my contact data and personally I don't like anyone else sharing my contact information with them or anyone else. Once you give them that data for free it's theirs, I'm not looking for complete anonymity but sharing my contact information is just a step away from giving them my checkbook, tax information and SSN. They have a really cool service and it's "free"... too bad people aren't taking account of what they are actually paying.
Rant /off
I am looking very seriously at getting a Hero though, I've had the Star Trek for quite a few years... (got it running WM6.1 now) and while cool. I'm looking forward to messing with Andriod and seeing what happens with the development of Andriod Apps/Utils in the community.
i had the touch hd and tytn 2 and they are all top notch phones....for me tho winmo phones are very precise in getting whatver you want done fast and efficeintly but they lack and excitement or fun while using them. hero i feel has just about put the two together making it enjoyable but efficient. dnt think i could go back to winmo and be happy about it....... the difference in screen size for me isnt really an issue i get on fine with smaller and th ehtc hero offers 3 different keyboard layouts for those who are used to a hard keyboard. obviously personal opinion differs but mines thumbs up to android......give it a go.....you only live once!

I was using 4 HTC WM smartphones over the past years. i got bored after a month with my htc diamond so i sold it and buyed a nokia e71 (symbian). Used it till now. In a few days my HTC Hero will be delivered.
I am certain that Android and HTC fit together very good and its getting the only competitive platform beside the iphone os.

Ok, screen size is my main apprehension. If that works out, maybe I'm going to get a hero.
I have a Touch HD and have been considering a switch to Hero. The main thing that stops me is that I rely on a couple of Java apps that run under Winmo but wont run on Hero. For the rest, I think the trade offs are probably worth it.
Rip HD. Sort of.
Just got my Hero(HD's going to the wife) and like any other device out there at the moment(and probably forever, sadly) it is not perfect. Having said that, I don't think I'll miss my HD that much.
That's exactly what i've done. Sold my hd and now waiting for my hero to arrive - hopefully tomorrow. Then il report back to say If I think it was worth it.
I much prefer the look of android tho.
I'm in the same boat as you guys - thinking about trading my HD in for a Hero. As soon as I saw how good Android was, I had been desperately hoping someone would port Android to the HD, but that as it doesn't look like that will happen now, I think I might take the plunge for a Hero.
Of course, like all of you, my main concerns are with the screen, and also the on screen keyboard. I'm using FingeKeyboard 2.1 on WM and it's fantastic, I doubt HTCs keyboard on the Hero will come close.
That said, I'm bored of winmo, and I organise everything online through google anyway, so switching to Android seems to make sense. I also like the idea of an app store, and whilst MS is slowly working on that, I'd rather have something run by google instead of MS.
Guess I should take the plunge!
Hi Everybody,
iPhone 3G about to be sold off, HD2 arriving Monday.
Having read this forum I'm now thinking WTF have I done!
Come on, give me some encouraging words on HD2 ownership pleeeease!
If you've got any tips for out the box new phones, like "Whatever you do don't press that button!" I'd like to hear them.
Fingers crossed it arrives on Monday as the small cold spell and a little snow grinds the UK to a standstill...
Cheers,
Gavin
It's a great phone and it works just fine. I'm sure you'll love it
Upgrade to 1.61 Turkish ROM (can set to English)
or choose your favourite cooked (unofficial) ROM, however, "voiding" the warranty.
As has already been suggested- just play with it as it is.
Remember it isn't an iPhone so some things will be very different- maybe not better or worse, just different like going from a desktop Mac to a PC
Once you are familiar with it, then decide what you want to do with it and ask for advice here if needed.
I'd say DON'T mess with the ROM- yours should come with V1.48 which is just as good as the later builds in most areas. If you can't live with the HTC Sense interface and the huge amount of memory it uses, then later consider a cooked ROM, but they are not as reliable as they need to be just yet.
If you want to use this as a media device, you will need more than the supplied 2GB memory card, so be prepared to buy one!
In short this is a fantastic device- you will be surprised how much more it can do than an iPhone once you are familiar with it, and being able to run as many programs at the same time as you want will be a novelty! The MS Marketplace is a joke though! You will need to become familiar with buying programs online then manually installing them- not difficult though!
you're making great progress
i'd say:
tip 1: order HD2
tip 2: register as a user here
tip 3: play with phone
tip 4: search these forums for whatever your needs are (fixes to things you don't like/ problems you are having; advice for how to do things; applications you require)
Hi Gavin, welcome on board,
Don't be fooled, the HD2 is NOT an iphone. You will be tweaking things till you get it just right to suit you. This is the major advantage winmo devices have over others, ie if you don't like something you can tweak it or change it.
If you have not got the time or the inclination to do this then run like hell and get your iphone back quick. If you are up for the spirit of adventure and can live with a few niggles knowing that if you spend time on here you can sort them out then welcome to our world.
Start off by reading the hints & tips thread on here plus all the other similar threads here that have said the same thing as you ie "convince me to buy a HD2" and see what they say.
All the best,
WB
PS: I'm well happy with mine but then I have been with winmobile for 3.5 years and am quite used to tweaking and changing things as part of a generally very enjoyable ownership experience.
Hi,
Thanks for the replies.
I've no problem with tweeking things, I'd rather that than stuck with no options on the "locked down" zPhone!
It's things like the volume and SMS problems that concern me
Cheers,
Gavin
Hey all my fellow XDA'ers! I've had a serious cell phone addiction for quite some time now and get some of my greatest pleasure counting down the days to new high end phones and hunting them down! after purchasing each headset, I like to somehow customize/distinguish it from others like mine (no matter what phone it is, I soon see masses of people all carrying "my baby" lol. Thus, I usually try to mod/heavily accessorize my headsets with the latest designer cases or a lil something diff. than the avergae.
Two weeks ago, my world had stopped! I finally received my unlocked HTC HD2 which I had been waiting for like a school kid waits for his/her X-Mas gifts!
Needless to say, I immediately became infatiated with the phone, being highly impressed by its huge bright screen yet extremely slim with.
However.....upon unboxing I noticed, there really isnt many customizations or personal changes that the phone allows. Now whenI look up my phone on the sites,I see beautiful variations tothe phone that is EXACTLYwhat i want. I want my phone to not be the boilerplate HTC. I've done alil research and found some program "spb mobile shell 3.5.3.?" Is this a new Userface or more like a theme for my baby!? +Where can i download it and how much $$ does it cost? ANY response would be appreciated!

Here is the link for the spb mobile shell it is $29.95. http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/mobileshell/
It is a user interface that masks windows kinda like what is HTC sense does. Good luck.
But if you want to go to the free route there a lot of tools/programs you can use here in the forums. ie. cookies home tab editor, hdwalls for the background and lots more. some more link if you want modify HTC sense itself. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=639002 Good Luck.
