Warranty got back my device back to life
Hi I bricked my device a few days back and tried all the stuff to bring it back to lifee but in vain... I finally gave up my trials and approached the service centre. They just replaced the motherboard inside and luckily everything seems fine now. They hadn't charged me anything as it was within warranty. Anyone in India if you need service centre address..

Though this site says HTC, I got my Dopod C800 serviced there...
Very few questions and cool guys.

Now I think that the reason of non flashing, even with official RUU, could be corrupted CID-block after using HardSPL on devices with low IPL/SPL. I've read thread about similar problem with Wizard. The question is: how to restore the CID block in our bricked devices? I'm not even sure if this theory with CID-block is a reason...
What do you think about such a trick:
- Run RUU on someone's working HTC device but only until the moment, when it wants you to click the last button to finally proceed with flashing. (This step is to let RUU to know that this RUU is correctly dedicated to our device). It's a kind of fake for RUU, cause our CID doesn't match the CID of ROM included in RUU.
- Next disconnect working device from the USB and connect your bricked device with launched bootloader mode
- Next click the final button to launch flashing in RUU application. If the process of CID matching was done before this step, the flasher should start and let us flash our bricked device. But I'm sceptic to this solution. If it was so trivial, everyone could flash his device with different ROMs so easy...
I can't try this trick cause I don't have working HTC. What do you think? Will it work or not?

D'you mean
working Herald or any HTC?
I have the same prob
I'm thinking about working device, exactly the same as this bricked one - in this case Herald. But all of this is only a theory. I don't have enough knowledge about the RUU flashing process.
My another idea is to swap only ROMUpdateUtility.exe, rapitool.exe and EnterBootloader.exe files from official RUU dedicated to your bricked device, with different versions of these files from another HTC devices just to test if it helps to recognize our bricked devices by RUU. Maybe the problem is wrong version of these files? But which versions are correct?
I'm just trying to find a solution to unbrick our f.....g Heralds . I know this is only a matter of time and soon or later we will know what to do. Moreover I believe that there are people, even on this forum, who know how to unbrick our Heralds but some of them don't want to do us a favour. I know what I'm talking about...

Welcome to the club...
As far as I know, SD flashing doesn't work because of the CID-lock.

I know it's on the device. It did, when I did the hard spl. Now when I'm trying to get back to original spl (device stucked in windows boot screen) I don't have that message, but the process goes through. Unfortunately without any result.

I did try to put back a french ROM. I don't know if it was the original because unfortunately when I first flashed it I was kind of beginner in flashing HTC's, but I tried with the only original french ROM that I found on this forum. The process goes through, but yet the result is the same. Is there any kind of command to fully erase (format) the memory (beside the bootloader) and then try to load a ROM ?
Same for me with restoring SPL ...it doesn't work.
And my device is almost at the same state of damage as yours. See my thread...

Also the mtty and task8 just restarts my device. Nothing more, nothing less!
So there is no way of restoring SPL with entering the bootloader manually? Not even a mSD-Card Trick out there? I need to get it done because of warranty ;/
You stucked in Olipro hard-spl, this is why restore spl not works...
And unfortunatelly you can not flash spl with micros-sd.
But you can try to flash rom with micro-sd card.

Or ask Olipro, maybe he can help you.
Well I am able to flash my Rom the usual way with USB connection.
But no way of restoring the SPL ;(
"So there is no way of restoring SPL with entering the bootloader manually? Not even a mSD-Card Trick out there? I need to get it done because of warranty ;/"
I do not understand exactly...
Did you try restore original spl with manual bootloader?
you run SSPL from Windows Mobile, then flash a stock SPL NBH, job done.
the whole *point* of Hard-SPL is that it can't be overwritten when it performs a flash so that if anything screws up you don't end up locked out of reflashing in the event something screws up.

So...
You have hard-spl on your machine
You can not restore spl followed the guide in post 2 (WITHOUT manual bootloader)
You can not access your windows mobile (WM does not boot)
You freeze on startup screen
You can not start you phone with steps in post 6
Am I right?
If yes, you stucked in bootloader. And unfortunatelly I can not help you...Maybe Olipro.

Well seems like something like this.
See I have no error because of invalid flashing. I had slight water damage. But some days later my device was working again for a whole day.
Next day it didn't work anymore.
When i startup my device and the WM-Splash shows up it makes "bring" and device turns off.
When i plug in the AC charger i can't even get beyond the O2-Splash.
But I can enter the bootloader and flash what I want, it works ;/
I am also able to connect with MTTY, maybe there is a way with repairing it through MTTY?
Full description of my problems here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402765
But if i cant get rid of the problems i have to send it to warranty by tomorrow or monday and i think they will notice that i don't have the original SPL on it. So they will screw me ;(((
So, as I am not a noob to computers I would try ANYTHING to get it back on my own!
Is there also no way of restoring it by using the microSD-Card? So is there no way without Windows Mobile? Not even the holy MTTY? Or any way of debugging it by MTTY to see whats going wrong?
I'm screwed!
P.s. I have also tried another battery in the o² shop....didn't fix it ;(

Yes but on "task 8" my device doesn't behave as it should be. It just restarts doing nothing.
Seems like i just have to hope the guys at the service center will not recognize my "not original" SPL. 1% chance ;(
Well thanks for now fktsndr.
Seems like there is really no way of restoring it without Windows Mobile ;(
I thought there would maybe be a "Low Level"-Method of accessing the device and restoring SPL.
Can't think of that there is no way of formatting the device on its lowest level (mtty) or transferring the original SPL per MTTY. Hmm...there should always be a way
Olipro, no way? ;(
if I remember right, the polaris hardSPL is based on an MFG bootloader.
this means you can use mtty commands (mw) to unpatch the write protection then flash the stock SPL.
if I don't remember right, and it is not MFG, then you can still use another mtty command with a special file, but this is more complicated and was not fully tested. you can contact me in PM and we can see.
(you could transfer SPL via mtty, but that is also blocked in hardspl because the mtty transfer uses same code to flash the SPL in this SPL common base)
by the way task 8 is exactly designed to just do a soft reset. nothing wrong with that command.
they really meant task 28. this does a hard reset. you can try that. I guess you already did, but just in case!
edit: I just remembered another way if task 28 doesn't help. ifyou don't mind that the device will stop booting SPL, then you can just do task 2a command in mtty. this will erase SPL, and because of hardSPL overwrite protection it will fail to flash it back from the temporary RAM backup.
the result is that the device will not even boot SPL, it will be black screen. it will boot to the radio bootloader only and O2 won't know what SPL was on it before erase.
I am afraid my Polaris bricked, but I hope somebody knows a solution. Let me explain:
I turned off my device to get my microsd card out. I put the card in my cardreader to fill it with a lot of music. After that I inserted the card in the polaris, turned on the pda, and I got into the bootloader screen .
I tried to soft reset: bootloader screen again, tried to hard reset: bootloader, tried to flash original rom: rom update complete and after that bootloader, tried to flash several cooked roms: rom update complete and again the bootloader. When I try to charge my polaris it automatically turns on and goes to the bootloader. Flashing with microsd doesn't work. I also tried the thing with mtty, but it doesn't show the usb option in the list...
I DID hard-spl, I was using udk diamond R8 and never had any trouble before, while flashing about once a 2 months. I really am desperate, because I am unable to charge the pda now. I searched well and I only found threads of people who forgot to hard-spl before flashing custom roms.
I hope someone comes up with a brilliant idea, I love my Polaris way too much working and I don't want it to be a nice looking pda that doesn't work anymore.
PLEASE HELP!
I now manage to get into the mtty application, but I don't know if it is a good idea to use it. The problems I found here which could be solved with mtty are different from my problem I think. What would be wise to do? I flashed various original roms, and radios. That seems to work as normal, but after flashing I keep returning in the bootloader screen .
I hope one of you has an idea what to do. If it is something that is involving risk, I think I should do it anyway, because in this current state my Polaris is useless.
a few ideas! maybe they can help!
1) do you have warranty? you can restore back to original spl and then get HTC to ix it!
2) Try flashing your phone without the MicroSD card in place, maybe with the stock HTC Rom
Another option - try to delete all files from your memory card.
Thanks for the replies.
1) do you have warranty? you can restore back to original spl and then get HTC to ix it!
I read the thread about restoring back to original spl. There is stated that you can't restore to original spl if you are stuck in bootloader...
2) Try flashing your phone without the MicroSD card in place, maybe with the stock HTC Rom
I tried a lot of times, but every time after flashing has finished, I return to the bootloader
Another option - try to delete all files from your memory card.
I formatted my memory card in fat32, tried to flash with sd-card. When I turn on the phone it shows about 0.5 seconds something like "no rom image" and returns to bootloader screen
My cruise is still stuck, and I really think about trying things in mtty as a last resort... Anybody who knows what commands I should give in mtty in this situation? All help is appreciated, and if a suggestion makes my polaris work again I will donate the brilliant xda-member 20 euro's!
I have the same fault and have not found a solution. Every time I soft reset I am stuck in the boot loader screen. If I switch off the phone using comm manager then soft reset the phone will boot okay.
The only method I have found to be able to boot properly is to leave the battery out overnight and then start the phone in the morning. Always boots without a problem this way.
To make matters worse the USB port on my phone is broken...
Guys,
I have an interesting issue that I hope someone can help me resolve. I recently upgraded the rom on my blackstone, and it appeared sucessfull, at first. A few hours later, it looked like the phone had done its normal "screen blank" from non use, however, i could not get the display to return.
I have done everything I can think of to recover from this - removed the battery for DAYS at a time, replaced the battery with a new one, etc..
If I power up the phone, I can use the pocket Controller-Pro s/w to see the device, but i can not see the display on the device itself.
I think I need to restore the FACTORY boot loader and rom, but I am having problems finding a method.
Any Advice?

Personally I would try and get it into bootloader and flash back stock rom, but as you only have a black screen you can only guess its in bootloader. Either turn on device whilst holding vol down or let phone boot up and use SSPL-Manual-TouchHD.exe to force it into bootloader. Then restore stock SPL and stock rom. When phone is connected to pc via usb you'll know it's flashing by watching flash % on pc screen

Kind of a noob question but, does SSPL-Manual-TouchHD.exe work with other versions of HTC phones? I ask because while I have a Jade clone, I will soon be upgrading to a Blackstone clone.

You don't actually need to go back to original SPL, just to a stock one, i.e. latest 1.54.0000 would suffice

If you flashed your device with a rom from this section, you just successfully bricked your Elf. Flash the device back to stock by putting it in bootloader mode. This might or might not work, but it is worth a shot.
Doesn't Work anything.

Yes,but it doesn't work.
Can you access bootloader?
Yes,i can access to bootloader, before couple of flashing rom's i even succeed to re-flash the device, now i get some errors during the flash, like "invalid id".

I think you may still have a chance to recover it since you can access b/l, but if you cannot even flash to stock... that is an issue. One to which I don't have an answer for. Head over to the Elf section. Someone might have a way to unbrick the device...
Sorry...
Anyway,thank you for your help!
I just read your solution. Glad you got your Elf working again...
You do realize that I asked you twice to flash to stock rom. Stock rom and original rom are the same thing, if you weren't sure of that I was talking about, you should have asked. I have transferred all your latest threads to the Elf forums. Please ask over there from now on as this is not the right section.
