1st thing you must do every backup MMS, contact, pix vid everything to your memory card.
to do hard reset means you revert to factory setting all clean , r u ready????? always think twice.
Hard Reset ~ push down on/off button and the soft reset button follow the instruction on the screen aftherwards,
ONCE AGAIN DO A BACKUP OR YOU WILL REGRET IT FOREVER

[Q] i bricked my phone?

this is the situation...
i want to change ROM from clean ROM to aosp ROM. I've disabled the vodoo before the change. Then i'm going to CWM.. flash like usual, then it works.
Because after changing ROM my app from previous ROM is still there, then i had strange idea...from CWM i wipe factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, then i make a partition SDcard. 512 and 0mb of swap.
I just realized that i use the update.zip from the sdcard, i can't go back to CWM. I take the sdcard out and fill it with update.zip for CWM work, but i can't.. the sdcard didnt detect. I change sdcard the the phone cant detect.
So now im in progress to use the ODIN in here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782204
Is that bricked? can i hav my phone back with ODIN restore?
*sory for my bad english
You'll be fine with a factory reset. I've probably done that 15 times by now.

You're saying that the pattern lock is still there after a KDZ update? I though KDZ updates overwrite existing partitions including the data partition.

It doesn't overwrite data or cache, this is why you get stuck at the android screen if you used a 2.2/2.3 custom rom (due to incompatible data such as dalvik-cache and other settings), and flashed a 2.1 with fastboot KDZ, you need to factory reset before hand to resolve this.

I had an experience yesterday with this problem with Optimus Black...The problem with the posted solution here our phone does not have a Home button so this solution not fit with ours, however upon experimenting things I do discover that in replacement for home button we can use the button at the left side of phone (Gesture Button) here how it will go.
-Turn off your phone.
-Hold Volume down together with G button.
-press the power button while still holding the Volume down and G button until it powers on.

How to preform a Hard Rest to "Out of the Box" status

Ok, for those of you who want/need to wipe your phone so that it deletes EVERYTHING so that you get it back to your "Out of the Box" status. I have the answer!
First: Back up What ever you want/need to back up.
Then: MAKE SURE YOU BACKED UP WHAT YOU WANT/NEED!!!!!
DOUBLE CHECK AND MAKE SURE YOU SAVED YOUR STUFF!!-Did I make myself clear that you will LOSE EVERYTHING!!!
Read This: T-Mobile Support Community: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2500
To do another reset, that will possibly leave some cache on the phone ( I know this, as I have done it and it left info on it).
Follow these directions:
A master reset restores the original factory settings and may erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, images, programs, and contacts stored in the internal memory. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available).
To perform a hard reset, follow these steps.
1. Back up all necessary data that is on the internal memory. See: Back up device files: Samsung Galaxy S II
2. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
3. Tap Settings.
4. Tap Privacy.
5. Tap to clear the Backup my data an Automatic restore check boxes, if desired. (you might have to clear Automatic Restore first, the Back my Data)
6. Tap Factory data reset.
7. Tap Reset phone.
8. Tap Erase everything.
9. If prompted, enter the password.
· Note: The default password is 1234.
10. Tap OK.
11. If necessary, enter and confirm the password again.
12. Tap OK.
With that all said and done, now to the Good way to Really reset your device.
First: MAKE SURE YOU SAVE WHAT EVER YOU WANT TO SAVE!! I backed up my folders and my SD card just in case, using Samsung Kies found Here: http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/m...softwaremanual.do?page=MOBILE.SOFTWARE.MANUAL
Bare with me, as I am doing this from memory. I performed it like 3 times yesterday.
1. Start with the phone powered off.
2. Hold the followling 3 buttons all at once starting in this order, Sound UP, Sound Down and Power. (Yes, you will need to use 2 hands).
3. Once the Samsung Android Screen pops up (the second Samsung Screen) release the Power button and keep holding the Volume Down. You will get a bunch of commands (like 4 or 5), First I chose to wipe my Cache, then I chose the option to "Factory Reset Out of the Box" Status. To move where you want to go, simply use the volume up and down. Then to select the item you want, touch your HOME key on the bottom of the phone.
That's it!! You now have your phone back to the first day you bought it. If you didn't back up your apps, they you just have to spend time reinstalling them all over again..
When you start by setting it up, don't allow it to restore your info/settings. I think it's like the 3rd or 4th screen after you touch the Android to start setting it up. Just unclick the box's...or box..like I said, I did it over 24 hrs ago, and more than once...testing it out each time for different things..This one way made sure everthing was gone and I started out fresh.
Hope this helps!!
Well you can just type *2767*3855# in keypad and those 12 steps will be done in one

No it won't. I know that because I had to give O2 my Galaxy S2 to change my defect display. I already had rooted it and therefore the "custom-download-counter" wasn't 0 again. In order to get a flashed/rooted phone back to the "out of the box status" you need to:
1. Install a stock firmware & kernel
2. Perform a hard reset*
3. Use a special "USB-Jig" to reset the counter.
* I used the number, then removed the folders/files like "MIUI" and the images of the custom-roms I flashed. Then I bored into the recovery and cleared the cache.

I confirm that this the only way to reset to out of the box, especially on custom kernels or root
You need to flash a full ROM through the new JIG cable not the old JIG. Old JIG won't reset counter
Be aware, most new ROMs here include old SBL and not the original to avoid the old JIG blacklisting
Better use an untouched "one file" ROM from samfirmware or grab your own ROM from Kies temps folder while it updates your phone
I personally like this way:
1- Use Odin through new JIG to flash an old official untouched ROM, 2.2.1 or older
2- Use KIES to originally update to the last official firmware, disable backup phone during this step
3- Hard reset and format internal SD card

They won't bother to check if it's the new bootloader or old bootloader. Why do you guys like to make things complicated. Occam's razor.
Also, unless Ben has updated Heimdall with the info I passed along from Odia or we get a new version of Odin, even if you use an integrated Jig cable the counter will not reset.
Simple way to get fully reset:
1. Flash desired firmware and reboot
2. Dial *2767*3855#
Job done.

Attention - A new way to get 4.3 running smoothly!

Hi guys,
A week ago, I spoke with a great friend that works at Sony in my country, about all the issues faced with the .266 (android 4.3) update. He has said that we will be getting another system update (that will still be based on android 4.3) within the next 4 months, but that an android 4.4 update was not planned .
He did tell me of a great fix to most of the issues I've faced with the .266 update, and that is to do a repair through sony update service, and then once complete, factory reset the phone making sure to tick reset internal storage. I followed his instructions, and my xperia sp is now running very smoothly, even while multitasking. I advise you guys with heaps of issues to try this for yourself, and see if it works well for you to!
That's a great news.. How long have you been using your sp since su repair and factory reset? Does it still heat up? :good:

Solved this by installing SUS in Bootcamp instead of VMWare. Not sure why only a few devices are listed when installed in VMWare.
Anyway it's my first time using SUS. I can't find an option to repair the phone. It just says I've the latest software and asks if I want to factory reset it. If I say yes then it downloads the FW and flashes it...

With no root, the only way to get rid of this bootloop is to factory reset, you can do it in recovery by pressing volume down + power at the same time, then you choose Recovery with the volume button. BUT you will loose everything ( pics, apps, etc. ).
But I hope that someone can give you another solution less "destructive".
