info consolidated: maximizing today screen w htc home plugin - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

After searching lots here and elsewhere I think it would be useful to have a consolidated post on maximizing the space of the today screen when using the HTC Home plugin. From various sources, this works on my 8525 with WM6
disable clock in top bar, move battery to top bar:
Clock
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\
"ShowTitleBarClock"=0 (disable)
Battery:
in
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\
add the following reg as dword if it doesn't exist
"TBOpt"=1 (enable top battery meter)
To remove the bottom tray, once all of the icons are removed the bottom tray will disappear:
To Remove Battery:
HKLM\services\power\ShowIcon = 0
To Remove the Wireless connection manager
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\WirelessMgr\keep = 0
I have MyMobiler installed too, but on the desktop install there's a configure mobile-> Hide/Show Tray Icon

Also you can use this application to completely remove the softkey bar at the bottom of the screen on the home page (the soft keys will still work!).
You can use the additional space for plugins...
note: soft reset after installing - works great on my Hermes. Also the softkey bar will return when in an application but always disappear when returning to the today screen.

Here is a screenshot

Thanks, gnahc79.
I've been wondering if there isn't some way to shrink the upper part of the HTC Home display, like maybe using smaller icons for the clock and weather. Or maybe some kind of a program tweak? I'm no programmer, just a user, so I don't know if it's even possible.
I really like HTC Home, especially for the clock and weather tabs, but they just take up too much room on the screen.

I'm not familiar with ppc/WM programming at all, but from various threads there's no tweak to change the size of anything. There is an HTC Customizer that allows you to mess with the font and custom icons, but I have found nothing that can make the plugin smaller or minimize when desired.

Kismat, great lcab, thanks for the link! BTW, what is that theme you are using for your today screen? Looks great, i like the way the shortcuts are split between the bottom and the top of the clock...where can i get that?
TIA!

Problem getting the clock to disappear...
I have tried the settings for and removing the connection manager. I can't get either to take.
I am doing this on an AT&T Tilt, with WM6.
I am using the TCMPocket registry editor. It appears to be taking the changes, as I can make the change, reset the phone, and check it and it is changed. But the clock remains as does the connection manager.
Any ideas?

Tidying up Today Screen On MDA Pro

Hi,
I recently picked up an MDA Pro and am pretty happy with it, but there are a couple of things on the Today screen that I'd like to get rid of and can't find out how.
The bottom of the screen has a bar for the softkeys (currently says 'Messages' and 'Calendar') that's a waste of space, and likewise just above that there is a toolbar with battery status/wireless manager/screen rotate that I'd like to ditch. Any ideas how to do this?
Separately, are there any today plugins that give you the ability to crush down the # of messages and tasks to a single line rather than the current individual items?
Cheers,
Jim.
I don't use WM2005, however, have a look for my program, TodayToggle (which is not entirely WM2005 compatible: it doesn't hide the softbutton menu bar; I've purposely NOT tried to hide it because it's there for a reason. Would it be useful to hide it? When I get WM2005 I'll think about it).
For better control of task and alarms etc, look into alarmtoday by pocketmax. 3rd plugin down here:

vijay, u have some AWESOME looking features going on there. Please can you tell us what you're using for:
- What is giving you all the icons in the top bar?
- Which app are you using for the calendar summary?
- What is the second-last plugin and what does it do?
craigiecraigie4 - have a look at the second post here for some shots of my setup http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=26468
The bar at the top is just PhoneAlarm using a skin I made, and using a hack I made called ToggleToday. Both are described in detail here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=27331
Toggletoday will minimise the Startbar to a tiny 2 pixel high bar, and then allow your today screen to show through. So you get phonealarm on every page. It should work in QVGA on the Universal, although I'll be sorting out VGA and full WM2005 support when I get a WM2005 device (shortly I hope).
The second to last plugin is claunch set up with shortcuts to dial or sms my better half - they use tools I wrote called VJSMS and VJDialer, both available in the development forum; http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=26972.
I use a dual sim, so claunch is also set to allow me to switch sims (not visible on screen) - the plugin after phonealarm is a plugin i wrote to show my current operator, o2 UK and Orange UK.
The calendar summary is using AlarmToday by Pocketmax (phonealarm guy) but hacked a little to suit my theme better.
V
PS - this is my old screen! I've improved one or two things since, will try to post some new pics soonish.
Hmm... not quite what I was after. Here's a screenshot of my today page with the things that I don't like about it:
Items that I'd like to fix:
1 - combine these into a single line item
2 - get rid of the softbar (using a softkey for messages is a waste as there's already a hardkey for this and the calendar is already on the today screen)
3 - get rid of this line of icons (again duplicated information/functionality)
I tried your software but it doesn't seem to work with the MDA Pro: the screen ends up somewhat distored with the messages part of the today screen showing through to other apps and the right-hand 20% or so of the screen no longer updating - suspect a WM2005 prob somewhere.
Any other ideas?
Okay so not a perfect fix but I've found out how to change the softkeys on the Today screen and posted the details at http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=140027

making HTC home plugin smaller

Does anybody know how to make the HTC Home plugin (for WM6) less high. For instance I would like te remove the email/mms, sms and missed calls buttons because all of them are displayed in the top (start) bar at the top of your screen. This way there will be more space left for e.g. todayagenda or spb diary.
Less high
+1 for making plugin less high!
dont think the options are present at least not in today settings
if they are in the registry then it's easy enough
if not it would require reverse engineering or other very time consuming tasks
personaly i can live with a scrollbar for now ...
maybe somebody know more about it's registrys
Is there A reg tweak that can just remove the today scroll bar? would be great for us with a touch rom, or all scroll bars?
How about "vj scrollbar toggle"?
I could live with a smaller clock... there really is no need for it to take up that much space or maybe ditch the carrier and date line
I think the Home Plugin is useful, but frankly it is also a bit flabby. It uses up a lot of screen real estate, by design. You can registry edit some of the buttons to be hidden, but nothing to really reduce the height of the plugin. It might be best to remove the plugin and try some better replacements if you can't stand it.
I'm still wondering whether I can live with it - it has useful features but takes up over 50% of the today screen.
Which scroll bar are we talking about removing? Can someone snap a screen shot?
IMHO a useful mini hack which is easy to do is to put the scrollbar back, forcing the today screen scrollbar over the Home Plugin which allows you to have a normal today screen, but requiring you to scroll up and down to see those plugins that go off the edge.

Hi V, in the "after" shot does the entire home plug now scroll up? If so, is it possible to remove that scroll bar? Can the width just be set to 0. I was thinking if a button could be made to toggle scrollbar width to 0 and back to default then any time my scrollbars annoy me I can just zap them away. Thanks
can someone help to fit it to VGA?

The scrollbars in the after pic will move the whole today screen up and down in the usual way, so the home plugin will move up and down. It does leave minor graphic artifacts (ie, there is a a blank rectangle where the scrollbar is, when the scrollbar disappears. The homeplugin doesn't redraw itself properly because it doesn't expect the scrollbar to be there... )
You can use a simple mortscript or registry edit to toggle the size of the scrollbars to a low size (I recommend 1 or 2), and back to a normal size.
From the wiki
Code:
Change the thickness of scrollbars
[INDENT]To change the thickness of the scrollbars at the right/bottom of documents larger than the screen, adjust...[/INDENT]
[INDENT]For the horizontal (bottom) scrollbar:[/INDENT]
[INDENT][INDENT]HKLM\System\GWE\cyHScr = 9 (DWORD decimal)[/INDENT]
For the vertical (right) scrollbar:
[INDENT]HKLM\System\GWE\cxVScr = 9 (DWORD decimal)[/INDENT]
The default thickness is 13. You can set the value to pretty much anything you like
V
[/INDENT]
Thanks I will try it, but to be honest I don't know what to do with mortscripts, but I have it on my device with one of the home tweakers. I will search, but advice welcome. Thanks.

It is possible to remove the today scrollbars. see pic below.
Registry settings of htc home in today is standard: HKLM\software\Microsoft\Today\Items\HTC Home\Type = dword 5. because of this key no scrollbar is on the side of htc home. replacing type = dword 5 for dword 4 will display a scrollbar to the right after reset. This can also be done to any other today item. By my home the today scrollbar is also removed for todayagenda1 --> changing type = dword 4 to dword 5.
The only scrollbar displayed is the scrollbar of todayagenda, because no 7 days can be displayed....

*skin preview added* two instances of a today plugin (rltoday) - possible?

hi,
i would like to know is it possible to have two instances of rltoday plugin in the today plugin options? how can i duplicate it?
i would to like to use one rltoday plugin for one tab of ultimate launcher and another rltoday plugin for another tab in ultimate launcher. so that i can put different objects on the different tab.
if not, is there any other today plugin that would allow icon/image (link) to be in any size (very large) and in any position by determining its x and y values
thanks for the help
Have you by any chance asked that on the rltoday forum?
That would indeed be perfect for UL.

You MAY find renaming the dll and then renaming the 'new' today item in the registry in HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Today/Itemsand then repointing the path to the newly-renamed dll.
I just did this with Effcom's redio toggler to test it. Don't have or use rltoday. Now there are 2 togglers on Today on my hermes and both function. Today items that don't just have the 1 DLL would be more complicated - dunno where rltopay fits into that.
Glad you asked because now I know it can be done. Could be useful.
rltoday does seem to have oly 1 dll.
At least that's what I find in it's installation folder.
However, wouldn't I have to rename it before installing the .cab?
How would I fo that?
trying to come up with something different from the normal small or squared button/icons
this is what i have come up with so far... still not quite done
it doesn't show everything on the screen... but with a swipe of a finger, you can change to a different page view showing different items (thanks to ultimate launcher)
i also removed the top bar and bottom bar, plus replacing the need to press the ok/close (x) button by using center button of the (trackpad?) just like the iphone - one button and your back to the homescreen (in this case the today screen) using AEbutton plus
considering to use something like the vistahide battery gauge to show signal strength

I was trying to do this a while back and indeed changing the dll name and registry values allowed me to have two instances of rltoday in the today screen. The problem was both rltoday were reading from the same ini file that sets up the skin, so basically I would have two copies of the same skin. If I changed one, so did the other. Unfortunatelly I could get around that at the time.

I think you could achieve the effect you want by using BatteryStatus. It doesn't allow to position images by directly giving their xy coordinates, but instead places them in multiple rows. But you still have the ability to shift images up/down/sideways, so they don't have to be aligned.
As a bonus you'll be able to display signal strength, battery and memory state, and a few more things.

A good application switcher

Hi, Im looking for a good and light application, that can switch through the running applications. I used http://vieka.com/vbar.htm but its not working correctly on WM 6.1 anymore.
I searched and found quiet a few, but none matches my need so far.
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks.
You could try Dynamo 2. Needs a little fiddling to make it work with wm 6.1 but it can.
Im looking for something uunspectacular...
I tried morttasks, but it is not ok. Just a simple click and hold on the little X in the corner should bring up a menu.
I have a touch diamond, and the HTC task manager is not that bad, but it shows all opened applications only when you are on the homescreen, which is annoying.
Any other SW? Thanks
Ever tried WKTask?

You can modify it (color settings, icons + text, only icons, pc like (like in the picture))
If you DON'T want this, there are other programs, cause this is why i use WKTask
ILauncher has a Taskmanager included... other programs too.
Without searching i don't know other programs which ONLY do taskmanager on X-Tapping.
PS: You can try the Taskmanager from Hinavigator. You don't have to install the today plugin: http://www.ppclink.com/?ppclink=product&do=view&id=64
Fourth video at the bottom. It's completely fingerfriendly and can be activated via gesture.

Yes it is. Quick question however, I use this along with WKTask (love the quickmenu but I also like having a "traditional" taskbar at the top as well) and now I no longer get any icon in the upper right corner when on the today screen. Before installing WK, it used to be a small battery icon up in that corner. ow, it's just and empty space. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I use alttab.exe, its small, light and I've mapped that to an hardware button. It switches between open apps just like when you press alt + tab keys on your windows pc.
Install MortButtons. In it there is a tasklist that pops up and shows icons for running applications. It's also very finger friendly. Search this forum for the latest beta which works very good.

Have you tried to access QuickMenu/Option/View, and then to mark "Show battery on taskbar"?
Yeah, that's what I had it on, but once I installed WK, it went away and now it's just an empty space. Not really a big deal since I have like 5 battery indicators on my Today screen. Just figured i'd ask if any had similiar situation.
Thanks for all your tips, I found out, that vbar - the application I used to use goes now under the name pbar (just search the forum.

[THE] Transparant (Glass) slider! And 2 Clocks

zip files
I've also made a Digital (Sprint) Clock and a Analog Clock.
Clock and slider and lower icons seems less whitish, but hte TF3D big icons seem still white - not changed?
I think it might be easier to show pre and post difference (not only clock but "mensen" for example)
I did not change any icon on this theme. (so you can use your own)
I only have made a new slider, now it's fully transparant. It's not showing any icon on top of it. (only under)
And i've made the bottom bar and b.g bricks transparant. Thats all.
We always wanted to get rid of Diamond blackness and you are giving us a piece of black hole But it looks really great. Im considering downloading it. Much better would be to reverse the colors. White would be the base and then use some colors on the icons...
Hi pamas, could you you please tell me which files are just for the slider, I have been looking for that. Or could you even better just post a zip with only the transparent slider, thanks.

Your welcome. Thnx!
I've edited it a little bit. Moved the slider a few pixels down.
Ok will try the new one as well.
After installing the bottom bar and slider my htc is acting really strange. I have soft reset it three times. It doesnt allow me to type in my pin password and doesnt even load touchflo3d
Thx
The new slider works fine for me and looks great.

By any chance you could create a semi transparent (glass-like, doesnt need shades) bar?
just the bar, icons not needed.

Same on this side, touchflo will not start anymore, after removing this it is back to normal. Hope there will be any solution.
By the way, the problem is couse the tranparant slider. The transparant bottembar is working fine.
Maybe some people are having manilla build issues I have 1.2.34837.3_1813.6 at the bottom of my settings tab and the slider is great for me. I have Dutty's 2.2 rom (great).
Just installed the transparent bottom bar .cab on my TouchPro to add to over a dozen other Manilla mods... works really well.....!
Thanks for sharing pamas.....
.
It's a beautiful work pamas!
Thanks!
But it doesn't work with call history tab (TF3D doesn't want to launch) and Black_HTC_ColourTabs (the standard tabs re-apear...)
Maybe you could make something?
