My Main Internet Connection is WIFI - Wing, P4350 General

I go to:
Settings/Connections/Manage Existing Connections/New
what a minute.....
OOPS!!!!
The WING makers forgot that 98% of people are using WIFI as their main internet connection these days. The only options I get are:
Cellular Line (What is that??)
Bluetooth (What?? Connect to internet via bluetooth??)
Cellular Line GPRS (I dont want that, dont have it, too slow, dont need it)
Hayes Compatible on COM1: (Are we still in 1988?? or my calendar is broken??)
WHERE IS MY WIFI CARD?

choosing wifi over GPRS

When I look at the list of connected networks, I see these:
T-Mobile GPRS (GPRS)
[my wifi] (Wi-Fi)
The wifi connection is set as "connects to: The Internet".
Sometimes when I go to check email, it'll connect to GPRS even though I have a wifi connection. Why doesn't it use the wifi? How can I force it to use wifi instead of GPRS?
t-mobile with the 2.17 ROM, 2.07 radio.
Bump....I'd like to know the same thing.
Assuming you will never want to use GPRS....if so, write down the settings
Go to Start>Connections>Connections>Delete GPRS
At least that's what I think I did
Make sure that both your wireless lan card and wireless connection are set to connet to the internet. I had my phone wifi set as connecting to "the internet" but when I clicked on my home wireless connection in the list of available access points it was set to connect to "work". Hopes this helps.
I am wanting to know the answer to this problem also... I dont have edge or Gprs and I want to be able to check my pop & pop3 email using Wifi..
Thanks!
Does anyone know how to solve this problem???

Using only Wifi

How do you select what network connection to use? 99% of the time I only ever want the phone to connect to the internet over Wifi (or bluetooth/cable connection to the computer) and not using Cingular's network. There is the occasional time that I would like to enable that but most of the time I want to only use the Wifi. Where can I set so it doesn't connect to Cingular accidentally (say if I'm out of Wifi range or hit the wrong button) so i don't get large data charges?
Thanks
In connexion option set default internet connexion as "my work network" and privat network default as "my work network" as well.
So lemme just confirm something - unless I configure server settings on the a HTC TyTN (using stock rom) on the Cingular network - it will not be able to use Cingulars network right? The only time I will be able to access the internet with the phone is over wifi, bluetooth connection (or USB) with an internet enabled computer. Otherwise the internet will not function and I will not be charged data charges correct?
I don't really ever find myself using the internet on a phone when I'm away from home so I can't justify the expense of the data service but I work on a few websites that I'd like to look good on a cellphone so that's my main reason for wanting internet access on it - so while I'm at work I can log into the wifi system and test the site while I'm tweaking the code.
Am I correct in assuming that I shouldn't be charged under this situation?
Hi, I'm on Vodafone and I made the changes fun_key posted without noting down the original settings. Please can someone tell me what the default settings are for internet connection and private network connection. Thanks

How to if I only want data via WiFi - Don't want to pay carrier data fees

I'm sorry... I've searched the forum using a few different keywords and can't find exactly how to do this. I did see a posting on "MoDaCo_NoData" but it seems to crash on my Tytn (installs but errors after it runs).
I have downloaded the official HTC WM6 Rom update and have that installed now. I'm just reading up on the hacked roms (Black Majik)... might try it in a week or two.
I know on WM5 if I didn't enable WiFi and by mistake ran IE, it downloads the data from the cell network, which is definately NOT what I want. Worse, if for some dumb reason, Wifi is a low signal, it might drop and push you onto the cell network for data, which has happened to me a few times now and unless you are paranoid (I am now), you never notice that it's slipped onto cell data network. It's starting to cost me a fortune.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Just change the settings for your gprs data connection so they are incorrect and then wont connect to the network, easily done .
Start/Settings/Connections/Connections/Advanced/Select Network
Select My WORK NETWORK
Some clarification needed...

Sorry... where do I do that exactly? If I go to connections, click on "GPRS Setting" it asks me is I want to use PAP or CHAP... nothing else.
As well, I forgot to mention I did get a Tytn for my wife as well, so would be nice if there was a program or simple step to enable/disable and easy for the wife to use.
Start/Settings/Connections/Connections/Advanced/Select Network
Select My WORK NETWORK

Thanks, doing this brings up "Network Managment" with two items on screen to choose.
1. Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:
Options: a) My ISP
b) My Work Network
Edit / New
2. Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: Options:
a) My Work Network
b) My ISP
If I do item 1 above, and change it to My Work Network, then I can no longer access web sites via WiFi. Which is what I'd like to do, just use WiFi, no other wireless data transfers via the cell carrier.
Thanks for your help and any clarifications..
You are facing errors with your Modaco Nodata because you haven't setup any data connection (3G or GPRS) to your provider. Try setting it up and running Modaco Nodata again.
It works a breeze for me. But then again, if you don't have any connections setup, you shouldn't worry about anything in fact.

When you go to Connections/Connections/Advanced/Select Network/and select My Work Network, click EDIT then click on the Proxy Settings tab and check this network connects to the internet....
Simply go into the network settings area (the same area people have noted above) and remove every connection other than your wi-fi.
Poke around, you'll figure it out.
Even easier
Call your carrier and disable data to that phone. Then there are NO worries that you accidentally change a setting and get a big bill as a result.
Maybe you can use CommmgrPro

WM6.1 Networking very confusing, can anyone demistify it?

Hi folks
Since day 1, I have always found the Networking (WiFi, 3G) system on WM61 very confusing.
If I go to connections, I have "My work network", Under there I have my Vodafone live profile. I have no idea why. Why cant I see WiFi settings here, and adapters etc
Under advanced, I can choose programs that auto connect to the net and auto connect to a private network. I have to set both of these to "My work network" otherwise my Vodafone Live 3G connection will not work. Surely connecting to a private network and connecting to the internet could be one and the same (in the case of using a router via a lan) ? Also this Network Management dialog does not seem to have anything to do with the Wi Fi network. I mean I cannot get at my WiFi adapters here etc.
The whole thing is a mess, If I want to see WiFi settings I have to use the WiFo icon in settings.
Can anyone make sense of this for me (and I'm sure many others). I'd love to see a definitive guide as to whats what, an explanation of each function/icon/tab/dialog
and finally a recommended setup for using WiFi, 3G etc
im kinda confused by WM6.1 network management too!
Currently i have my top setting set to 'Work Network' so that it accesses my wifi at home,
And the 'private network' is set to my 3G data provider, however it seems very clunky and if it was the other way around, i risk using my 3G data allowance even if Wifi was connected.
Im keen to also get some clarity here.

Trouble getting wifi and gprs connections to behave

Hi,
I've got a Touch Cruise 09, having upgraded from the original Touch Cruise. With that old phone, I had it configured (somehow) to use a Wifi connection as default, but if there was no current wifi connection it would initiate a data connection to my cell provider. That way, when at home or work I could manually connect to a wifi AP then browse the net, download email, etc over that connection, but when I was out and about it would start a data connection.
But with this new Touch Cruise, I can't get it to use wifi for syncing email. Even if I have a wifi connection, it initiates a gprs data connection. (This works, but it costs me). It does however behave like the old phone for browsing the net using Opera.
So basically, how do you assign what connections different programs use? The whole My Work and Internet concepts have always confused me on WM/WinCE devices, but I suspect its something to do with that.
BTW, I'm using MS Windows Live to do the email syncing... I've got a hotmail email address. But I can't find anywhere in the Win Live setup to specify the connection.
Anyway, thanks for any help!
Hey,
Is it that you do not want to use your data connection at all? Because if that is the case you can use a program called "NoData". On my phone I just use my WiFi connection and no GPRS or any other kind of data connection (I am a cheap ass user).
Grtz
Nope, I want to use wifi for when I'm at home, and cell phone data fro when I'm out and about.
At the moment it ALWAYS initiates a cell data connection, even if I'm at home and have a working wifi connection open.
My old phone used the wifi if it was there, or would then start a data connection. The new one doesn't.
