TyTN goes wiki
A wiki page has been opened for the TyTN
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
Please look here before asking questions on the forum.
All users can edit this page so you can all add information thus making it a better source of information.
A bit of a old news to anyone who has half a brain.
pof has been taking good care of the wiki for a while now.

Hi - just klicked throught the wiki and there are many links/downloads not working: page not found and so on...
Regards,
Martin
Yes a lot of things screwed after the forum migrations. I already asked the site admins if there's a way to fix it, so they are aware of it and I hope will fix it soon.
Maybe nice to add to the WIKI: I've got me a brand new Vario II sr 642F, so far problem free, stylus feels perfect when pulling out, keybord is smooth yet firm and tidly around all corners... no problems yet... knock on wood
one question though guys that i wouldnt mind answered... Im in australia and looking at buying a TyTn but obviously HTC arent supplying them directly, so its IMATE or DOPOD, now DOPOD are saying their model is Bluetooth 2.0 and IMATE says theirs is 1.2, but arent these the same devices the JASJAM and 838Pro??
thank you.......
Linux & hermes
Hi,
Is not possible to run Linux yet on HTC TyTN. I`ll must wait for a release??
If I must wait is there a roadmap for the linux port??
I hate M$
Thanks

Heya guys,
can we get a sticky to the wiki back on the Hermes Upgrade page?
Hey guys thanks for the wiki and all the great information on the forum. It's all been great in helping me change from my Blackjack to the Hermes! Thanks all!
Thanx
Hi all...
I'm about to get the Dopod 838Pro, and am very grateful that this sort of a forum exists... I am very scared, i don't particularly want to stuff it up... but knowing what sorts of updates and tweaks exist is GREAT
Keep up the good work, and hopefully I will be able to contribute
Hello,
I have a french SPV M3100.
I've seen on wiki page ( http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtendedRoms ) that it was missing french SPV M3100 extended rom.
I don't know if that can be of any help, but I've retrieved these files out of the SPV.
Would it be interesting for anyone to have these files uploaded to the xda ftp ?
Unfortunatly, I can't get access to the ftp (timeout), might be because, at work, I have a proxy that might block ftp access.
But tell me, I should be able to do it @ home.
Cheers from France.

Is there a way of saving the wiki to my local hdd and reading it there? I'm frequently away from home and it would be handy to have the resource to hand

There may be freeware ways of doing this but I have used this and I've just tested it on the Hermes wiki with a link depth of 2 and it worked fine. It has a trial period and a free download so nothing lost if it's not what you're looking for:

First off, Welcome to The Forum
And for you're question, I can see it here no problem. Is it just the wiki that's not loading? If you're running Firefox and have NoScript or any other "Security" tool then check that it is not blocking anything?!
Let us know of you're progress, though.
Cheers
Elwyn

Hi Ashraf, and welcome to the forum
I don't see what this has to do with the missing wiki. You'd get a better response from the board if you put this in a new thread.
If you go back to the main HERMES thread (which is where this message is at and click on the
button you will be able to create a new thread.
Athena Service Manual Needed ?

Would you mind posting the service manual for the Universal to Rapidshare or somewhere like that? I need it and know a couple of others on this forum that own Universal's and I know they won't mind having it.
search the forum here, very early posts, it is already posted, how to open athena with images

That is not what he's asking for. He's asking for the service manual. It's a lot more info that just a few pics and instructions thrown together. We do need someone to release the service manual soon, hopefully.

Yes, in fact the manual is based on the TyTn model. The manual can be used for all variants of the Hermes - the key differences are only in:
Casing varies a little from model to model
Front dpad and key layout varies slightly
8525 version has no front camera - though internally all the connections are there,

Great stuff! Thanks Mike. Unfortunately I get the same problem. Downloads fine, but on extraction I get an error message which states that:
You need to start extraction from a previous volume to unpack Athena PDF.
Any chance you can fix this please? Cheers Mike.
I just registered and it still won't give me access to the htc link. thanks for the help
******** I found it / sorry ************
I am looking at it now, thanks sooooo much Mike
Read in anticipation hoping for pin out details!! Damn not in there - now where would i get them from now HTC wont give me any to make peripherals?
Brilliant snag!
I am just starting to read the document, it mentions call barring, how do you enable that?
For us I put it on our ftp.
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/
Now only if we can get ahold of the Diag. program. and a login to the SDO website for ROM's
Hi all, another noob!
I've done a few searches to no avail so a simple question with lots of possible answers I'm sure:
As I have just received my O2 XDA Orbit, what, if anything, would the Moderators/Admin guys recommend I do to improve the performance of my Orbit (not that I am aware of any limits so far) or what essential bits of software should I have? Please be aware that my knowledge of computers, PDA's and all this other techno-wizardry could be written on the back of a nano-bot in large font, so please, it will have to be kept to a very very simple level.
If I am too dumb to be able to do anything other than enjoy what I have, please feel free to say so!

You see, one stupid question and I get access to something I wouldn't have known to look for. Now all I have to do is understand wtf it's all about. Never heard of a wiki before so I'm not sure what to do about that. That link looks great, but again I have no idea how to utilise it.
Sometimes, some of you guys forget just how difficult it is for noobs to this game!
Thanks though.
Since you are not looking for anything particular, using the search would be useless - the wiki is good but has many information for advanced noobies so why don't you start with reading all the threads that you find to be interesting.
I'd recommend you to go to pocketpcmag.com and check out the "best sites" section and start reading about pdas in general, download some apps and get to know Windows Mobile. Try your first registry hack or simply take a look inside to find out how it funtions.
When you have managed this (could take a month or more) then pick a ROM and flash it to your device. Before you do this be sure to do use the USPL patch and make sure you are doing everthing right BEFORE you do it! When your device is "bricked" you probably need help from somebody in the forum. It's better to have a working backup plan before you try that.
I think Meschle's ROM is a good start if you ever wanna try because he included the USPL patch to be sure that uploading his ROM doesn't mess with your pda.
Have fun using this great pda!

Thanks for that...things do start to become clearer. I will check out that web site and I think I now realise that this site is more for advanced users than complete newbies like me...sorry!
I will try a registy hack (once I find out how to do it... )

Hi everyone
I just purchased this phone or pda off ebay and I am going to be signing up with att. Right now I can use it because I have been given 30 day trial. I love it but I am having trouble with some aspects of it. There is so much to know. One of the problems I have had is sending email through ebay. I bougth this to do business. If i try to answer a question through my ebay messages when I push to send the reply message nothing happens. I also try to access tmobile to make a payment and when i enter password and log on it wont log on, the page just sits there. Are there tweak for this. Also on craiglist I tried to post an ad an when I went to post it I got a message that said unable to process request. Any help or suggestion fo my new phone in reagrd to tweaking it will help. I have also noticed that aol messages loads slowly on egde. Are there any tweaks for this. It can take forever. I know I have a lot to lear and this is my first smatphone and I am excited about it but I am also lost. Thanks in advance for any sugestion or help

first thing to do is to start looking at custom Roms, the operating system of your device, and find one that will do what you are looking for.
then if you decide to upgrade, then read this very closely and follow the instruction to the letter,
http://www.pocketpcaddict.com/forum...-unlocking-cid-unlocking-wm6-your-8525-a.html
I am using this one and it works great, it resolved all my issues.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334946
the search on these two site are great, BTw welcome onboard .
most of the problems that you mentioned could just be a browser problem, lots of pages dont work the same, but the general consensus is that PIE blows, you might want to try a different browser. opera, and opera mini seems to be very popular. I feel obligated to mention menneisyys' guides on browser which you can find in the wiki (otherwise he's gonna butt in and mention it himself in this thread ).
Thank you so much. I believe I have WM6 on my device Im not sure if it came from att or was downloaded. How would I check to see if WM6 is on my phone. If it is do I go to the next step and install Olipro v7 2.10 I guess this replaces PIE if im right. Im learning but slowly. Thank you again this is helping me tremendously

Do I need to activesync my device to upload these programs. Thank you in advance for the help it truly is greatly appreciated and what is bicking your device mean. you can be sure I wont be doing anything till I understan what im doing fully.

those links are all about flashing roms, and i dont think you want to go that route yet. learn how to use your device first, only then you can start looking at upgrading roms.

I will definitly take your advice on that and stay clar of that.
Another great tool to use to learn, is to click the "New Posts" button at the top, and read posts that related to the (8525) Hermes forums, even if you do not understand just what they are discussing, in time you will pick up a lot of a useful info.
This is what i do several times a week in the evenings.
Hi Guys,
1st let me stress something: lots of ppl here are doing a great job & a lot of work. Thanks to all of them!!
I have TWO suggestions to make the threads (e.g. the new udK release one) more usable:
1)
After Problems come up, the initial poster (udK!!!) of the new ROM could append a list of known (i.e. confirmed by him) problems in a list in the initial 1st post;
(udK already confirmed some problems in the Syrius R0 thread, but no one is gonna find/read it after some time)
So that would save TONS of posts from ppl not reading the entire thread (which becomes quite impossible after a while).
2)
We could think about an extra THANK-YOU thread. This would keep the original one more readable and still leave room for credits to the poster.
What do you think?
Christian
BTW - does anyone know howto subscribe a thread to an RSS reader?
Is that possible?
thx!

I'm using FireFox 3 and on all thread-pages I get an RSS icon on the right hand side of the address bar. Click it and I can subscribe width FeedReader which is my installed RSS reader app.
thanks pananza!!
missed that one :-(
And thanks to all who ansered.
Now how can we make the ROM developers listen to it ?!
Yeah, thats quite the thing I suggested when I came to this forum - everybody laughed at me and told me how stupid I was. It´s just about a little bit of time to make the whole thing easier to handle, and the cooks benefit as well as we, the community, do !

Martin
