Anyone know why I cannot get TOMTOM working under WM6? I've tried the connection, and then set up through tomtom. It shows the BT GPS but doesn't actually contact any satellites.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
PauL D
I assume that you are outside with a clear view of the sky?
I use Igo, and is working well.
no problems here. tomtom works pretty well with ba and wm6
How to set your BT GPS receiver to work properly
go to bluetooth settings than hightlight your gps device than go to "COM Ports" select "New Outgoing port" select "COM6" go on..on TOMTOM select COM6.
That's all.
p.s. I'had your same trouble and I solved it in this way.

Which ports
Hi all,
Tried the suggestion above. Set hardware port to COM 6. Set Bluetooth to Com 6. No joy. What should I set the program port to in the GPS Settings? Is there a specified baud rate?
Is it something to do with the BT radio? Do I need to update it somehow?
Thanks,
Paul D
Update
Changed the Program settings to Com 5. Now it recognizes the GPS unit's address (BT 00 12 c8 90 65 ac) but still no satellite connection.

Works!!
Followed the other suggestion and took it outside. DERRR!
Feel like a Git.
Thanks Guys,

HI
i am new to this plaise help
i got SPV M1000 witch i install TOMTOM 4.00
the problem is when i click on tomtom navigator
i get this massage: gps position unreliable
plaise tell me STEP BY STEP how do ACTIVATE GPRS
coz i am new to this
tnx
Nice and easy....
Launch TT, goto config, goto GPS
If you have a little circle at the top right spinning then it's connected to your GPS device, however if you get a popup asking you to pair it, then do the following
Search in BT, you should find the GPS device, pair to it (dont use a code if asked)
Tick the allways connect to this device tick box, ok all the way out and TT should now be talking to the device
It will take a while to initially pick up satelites, you should see some grey bars and numbers in the GPS window inside TT.... Also make sure your outside
Hi King2,
are you getting GPS and GPRS confused?
you don't mention a GPS unit in your post (but you do mention GPRS)-- do you have one? TT is useless without.
the GPS unit (usually cabled/bluetooth) is basically a satellite receiver which TT uses to locate your position.
Hi,
GPS Position Unreliable means that the GPS Module not found any satelites.
When you don't have the module you don't get this message.
Then TomTom says GPS module not found.
I takes about a minute or so to conect to a satelite.
But you must be in a open space otherwise the module can't connect.
When you are between buildings the connection is difficult.
Hope this helps

Port Problem
Hi King2,
Did you paired the phone and the BT GPS?
It is where you put the BT on
Settings / Connections / Bluetooth / Devices / New
If you did there was a question about a bluetooth serial port connection.
You must answer yes or no. Use yes
If you tick yes, WM2003SE creates a BT Serial port.
I think in the text it also says what port was created. (i saw in a flash that is was BT Serial Port 5
In TomTom got to GPS and take BT Serial on Com 5
Uncheck the port 4.
I din't change the settings and when i just looked in the BT Settings only the Outbound Com port: 5 is checked and 4 is not
I hope this helps

Hi King2,
You must pair your BT GPS otherwise it won't work.
What for BT GPS do you have :?:
And did you put the GP on when you try to pair. (it a silly question but i have to ask you).
Did you BT GPS came with extra software :?:

Hi all,
Cannot register a serialport (Bt)
Have manage to put TomTom5 working with BT Gps.
thanks to "andreuroig"
with this work around:
1. Establish a bond with your GPS and select the checkbox for serial access.
2. In BT, select the OUTGOING port to 8.
3. In the GPS control panel, select the GPS program to 0 and make sure that the hardware one, is set to None.
4. Start TT5 and and the GPS settings, select another bluetooth GPS, and you will see COM 0 free. Select COM 0 and close TT5.
5. At the GPS control panel again, now select COM 8 (before we set it up at 0).
6. At BT: select OUTGOING port to 0.
7. Back again to GPS control panel and select NONE.
8. Finally start TT5 and it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected.
The problem is the BT-com port is not visibel in any software neither in Tomtom the Com0 is not visible after the above instruction.
Is there a way to do the BT-com port visible?

JoseF

Thanks I have done that , still have a problem TomTom works but if I want to use another program it don´t connect
JoseF
Hi, try to do that as listed above BUT replace COM 0 with COM4. This seems to have worked for me, TT5 now works automatically, and I can use Memory Map on COM 4.
More testing tomorrow but it seems to be OK.
Kev
Josef, gpsgate is a piece of software that allows you to share a serial port between many different programs at the same time. Try downloading the working demo and see if it helps.

Hi kevwright,cruisin-thru,
kevwright can you reset your device and after connect to Com4 with memory map? Tomtom will work I know.
Please let us know your testing.
cruisin-thru , I have tried GPS-gate and send one e-mail. Haven´t get a replay yet. gpsgate worked well in xdaII
Regards
JoseF
Ah, after reset it does not work, sorry.
This thing also loses the Outgoing Port regardless of reset (just overnight for example) so am at a loss on this one.
Alternately, can we get Memory Map to "see" COM0 as that fix seemed to work for TomTom OK?
Kev
Hi,
I just installed tomtom version 5 on my MDA Vario but I can't seem to get the tomtom to recognise my 32 channel bluetooth receiver.
Tom toms configure screen only allows me Comm ports 0,9 or 3 whilst the MDA only allows me to set up the outgoing Comm ports as 6 or 7 !
As a result I cant get tomtom to receive a signal from my receiver !
Can anyone help ?
Thank You
Steve
Try setting up new bluetooth connection to serial port, untick the make private box, then on tomtom gps settings use com port 6 although on a XDA though, still worth a try eh?
Believe that this bug is resolved in TomTom version 5.21 (download from TomTom website)

Cheers but there is no 'make private option' on the MDA although assume unticking 'secure connection; is the same thing ?
Either way I am still without the ability/option of selecting Com port 6 on tomtoms configure screen....
Try.
Pair the device, then put a tick in serial port and save.
choose the COM Ports tab, then tap new incomming port (COM6)
Then startup tomtom and it should find it when you select COM6 in other bluetooth GPS.

Using Version 5.10
Config within Tomtom offers -
COM9:
Infrared Port
COM3:
COM0:
COM2:
Serial Port
This is the same with either "Other Bluetooth GPS" or Other Cable NMEA GPS...
Have also changed Cfg file in Navigator folder to that offered elsewhere with no effect...
There is a bug with the version your using, you need to update it to version 5.21
heres a link to the patch http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?FID=3361&Language=1
I am trying to set up tomtom 5.21 with my BTGPS74 receiver but cant get the two to communicate. I know there is some settings you can change in settings/system/gps but the problem I have is I dont have the gps option in settings anywhere. Am I missing something? Does any on know what I should do. Tomtom wants me to use port 3 or 7 but when I try to set them in bluetooth settings it says its not possible check your settings. Any suggestions would b welcome. Thanks.
P.S I know the receiver works as it still works well with my N70.
...you should've gotten a GPS icon if software GPS recognized.
In rgister you can force simulation.
hklm\controlpanel\gps]
delete redirect and add 'group' with dword=2
Then GPS icon will appear.
I gave it programport 7,hardware 6, baudrate=57600
gps auto checked
I'm not sure about the settings...
I had to create incomming and outgoing com ports on my 3100 (not sure if you need both)??
TomTom used com port 9 and works like a dream
as soon as you start the programme it connects automatically as long as my receiver is on.
It even connects when the BT on the 3100 is turned off - it starts the BT automaticlally when tomtom runs!
Yeah i agree all you need to do is set up the com ports, then fire up tomtom and select the com port you just set up and away it goes
Chris
Thanks for the replies guys. I know I have to set the com ports but the problem I have is there is nowhere for me to do this. For some reason the gps settings is missing from the system/settings. I am going to try to reinstall tomtom to see if it helps. Tomtom has ports 3 and 7 showing but they seem to be taken by something else so I cant configure my receiver on either of them.
I have a slightly different problem... my TyTn can connect to the BT GPS reciever, but as soon as TomTom tries to calculate a route, or I click the GPS signal icon it crashes back to the Today screen...
I've got TomTom installed with 5.21 update, anyone had any problems like this?
you just need to pair your bluetooth device go to settings connections and bluetooth and add new device, let your tytn search and it will find a new device when you have paired it select new comm port outgoing
I have no gps setting in control panel either
Cheers
Chris
Hi,
i have a strange problem with my BT. I cant create a incoming or outgoing BT port. I dont know why but it wont let me create any ports.
Anyone with the same odd problem?
I had a similar problem, Tytn would only let me choose COM0 (Zero) as outgoing port, and TT works fine with it. However, I would like to add Mapking for Asia, and this navi soft will not accept a GPS on COM0. Anybody understands why Tytn is only offering COM0 as outgoing ports for GPS?
I have set the com4 as outgoing port and now tomtom seems to work fine.
thanks for that info.
I don't know why only port 0 and all other ports are blocked but TT works for me now. I only need to wait for a better ROM and i can leave my Wizard home
I have written to a good contact at HTC since I need COM ports other than 0 for Asian Mapking navi soft (in add. to TT) . Will keep you posted.
Answer from HTC:
"As my testing, the Outgoing port is not limited with COM0. PaPaGo can accept with COM0, COM2, COM4, COM8, and COM9. I think the limitation of COM0 is the software limitation of TOMTOM, So if the user wants to use Mapking that only support COM1~7, he need delete the outgoing port COM0, and reassign another COM port for the BT GPS."
I imagine the problem lies between the Tytn and TomTom only, and other navi soft would find other COM ports. But I am kind of hesitant to interfere with a working TomTom, and go through the outgoing COM port game again...
I'm using Navigon and set up an outgoing Connection on com2 and it works fine for me.
sounds like TT is the problem ...

Guys, let me try to help you a little bit, as I work in navigation software development (Destinator).
1. The COM ports has nothing to do with the actual software you are running. This is pre-defined in the ROM you are using. That is also the reason why we see variations here - we use different ROMs.
2. In order of enabling a COM port, you do NOT need to discover the GPS icon on the settings. It is quite useless unless you wish to work simultaniusly with more than one software.
3. To enable a COM port, after you pair the GPS, look down for the tab COM Ports in the BT settings Manager. You only need to create Outgoing COM.
4. Strange but usually you will only be able to choose between 2 COM ports. The rest are hidden by the OS. MAKE SURE that you disabled the "Secure Connections". Default key for all the GPS receivers is "0000" and for Globalsat 308 is "2003". The last is AKA HP GPS.
5. If you cannot enable any other COM port than COM0, this is a ROM problem and you should contact your ROM provider like the mobile carrier. You can also try to enable other COM ports with the attached CAB file. Simply run it, it will expose all COM ports for you and now you should start trying. I reccomend to test COMs 4-8 first, normally, it will solve your problems. (Note: I got this file previously here and did not create it myself).
There have been may posts about TomTom not recognising B GPS's.
One solution that doesnlt seem to be mentioned here id to ensure that the name of the GPs in BT connections actually ends in "GPS"..
If it doesn;t renove the pairing and re-pari , but change the name this time to something that ends in "GPS"...
good luck

Thanks guys, found another solution that works for me now:
1) Set your Bluetooth GPS to another COM port than 0 (TomTom´s standard port 6 was not available, so I choose 2)
2) open Programs/Navigator/navigator.cfg with a text editor, change COM0 to COM2
3) start TomTom - working on COM 2!
Started Mapking, found COM 2 - working now.
hello fellas,
as you can see im new here. im thinking of buying the TYTN, a sector which i have never explored before (pda sector).
it sounds great with the applications and due to my work, a need for a pda is becoming bigger.
i posted in this message due to the GPS topic.
i got a very stupid question which you may recieve occasionally if i buy the tytn..
why do a person need BT enabled GPS? i read you can connect it to your PDA but for what reason?
thanks in advance and apologies for any inconvience..
@D_G - welcome to this board
In order to run navigation software on your Tytn you need a external GPS connected to it. Easiest solution is a external GPS connected via Bluetooth.
Another solution would be to buy a PDA phone with a GPS receiver on board, for example the ETen G500.
Of course we would all be interested in a UMTS PDA with integrated GPS, with acceptable battery life, but that will take some time...
thanks lucas for the answer. but why would you need a navigation software if you have a GPS device? in either case you will need to have both devices in a particula blue tooth range. right?
this means you will need your handheld device + the GPS to activate the navigation software, or dd I miss something?!
Does anybody know how to get the XDA EXEC to work with BT GPS
FGPXBT02 as I am really struggling to get this device to work. My phone can see the device in bluetooth but when I run TomTom 5 on the phone the program cannot see the GPS device in the "OTHER BLUETOOTH RECEIVERS" section
Any ideas?
create a outgoing com(0-10) port unsecured
then select that com port in your tomtom by selecting different GPS receiver
Scouse - please modify topic title to give more helpful info...

hi viper thanks for info tried that but the tomtom software does not see com0 in the other bluetooth receiver section. this is the problem i am having.
Don't use "Other Bluetooth", use "Other Wired GPS receiver" and select the com port there. I think if you select a Bluetooth GPS, TomTom will try to find the device for itself rather than using the connection you've configured manually.
Hi I have tomtom 5 and the BT device is on Com8 I just tried all com ports until one worked. Its set to other bluetooth and connects everytime.
would prefer it to automatically set though.
