transfering files from wizard...no usb - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

is there a program a any way to send files from wizard to the computer? and how?

You are a little limited without USB. You could use BT if available. Maybe set up a wifi connection, is that called AD Hoc? I don't know much about that though.Hopefully someone more knowledgable can help there.
Depending on teh size you could email them too.

Dont forget about the Infrared the Wizard provides But whether you do it by BT or IR, you will need to send the files either from file explorer or set up an ActiveSync connection

yeap theres bluetooth and infrared
cant you just buy a new one
cant even imagine how slow itll be.,...

I active sync via BT all the time, but i normally place files in a shared folder on my PC, then grab them via wifi.
Wifi is not hard to set up at all. Look for a tutorial via Google to set up shared folders.

Internet usage through bluetooth

Hi there.. a lovely site.. oh I've have my XDA2 for 4 months and am still totally impressed by it, so much so, I got "her" one as well!!!
I am having a few problems.. mostly related to my newbie status!
1. Can I use the XDA2 to view web pages, using bluetooth to access my pc's broadband connection.
2. If this is only possible with a wifi card: is it possible to get one that allows me to use my existing 512mb sd card at the same time
3. My better half's XDA2 keeps connecting to GPRS to update new stories it has already stored in memory from USB docking (Journal Bar)
I'll leave you with these for now.. Thanks a bundle!!
If you have BT on your PC then it's no problem to browse the web, just set-up Active-Sync over BT and then sync and then you can launch IE on the XDA and browse away!

well it is possible but i do think they are making some wifi cards with onboard flash ram on aswell otherwise you could get the backpack and use CF flash ram

if you go into today in settings and choose journalbar you can set how often it should go online up update this may be a good idear since otherwise it will update stock info every 3mins

Browsing LAN from PPC

Is it possible to browse my LAN from my XDAII using only my USB cradle? I'm using Resco Explorer. I tried this:
1. Select My Network root directory
2. Selected Map Drive... from the Advanced Toolbar
... to no avail.
Open up internet explorer. Put in the address bar the following \\"computer name or IP of computer" then click on the little go button and waa laa it will work. The go button doesn't say go, but in essence it is the same it is to the right of the address bar.
Mike
As far as I was aware it's not possible to browse network files from an XDA2 unless you use an SDIO wi-fi card, and sure enough I can't get Mikee's suggestion to work. If I type into IE's address bar '\\192.168.1.100' and click Go, that gets replaced with 'file//\\192.168.1.100\' (almost like it's trying to connect for me) but then immediately I get a 'Network path cannot be found' error.
Pity, cos it'd be great to be able to do this. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, Mikee?
You can partially blame Microsoft for this with their "My network card connects to {work} or {the internet}..." paradigm.
It's one of the most irritating things about the Windows Mobile OS.
Let's suppose you have a Wireless Card or (in my XDAIIi's case) internal Wireless turned on. By default, WinMob2003(&SE) decides arbitarily that your network card connects to the Internet.
This is fine if you are using a Wireless AP hooked up to ADSL at home for your Home LAN as it will just connect via your AP and go straight through to the Internet. However, guess what you have to do to be able to connect to any local machines on your LAN? You guessed it, you have to go into the advanced connection setting and change the "My network card connects to..." to "Work"!! You will then be able to map a drive either using Resco Explorer or even the inbuilt explorer, of any machine that your PPC can "see". Don't forget that permissions etc will need to be setup first though so that you can login to said machine.
That's fine, however, guess what you WON'T be able to do while you have that setting at "Work"? You guessed it, you WON'T be able to connect to the Internet!
I'm afraid it's either one OR the other and NOT both together.
I went through all this wireless bit because it equally applies to when you are simply connected via the cradle using Activesync. In the "Pass-through" settings of AS, you'll find it set to "The Internet" by default and like this, you will not be able to access local machines on the LAN connected via your desktop or a switch/hub. If you change it to "Work", however, you will. Then of course, the same applies as to the wireless setup. With it at "Work" you won't have access to "The Internet" and vice-versa.
I can only guess that the PPC situation is like this because the WinMob2003(&SE) OS does NOT have a FULL network client built into it that behaves as a Windows Desktop PC would. So, basically, it's a cludge.

henny
Firstly, my apologies for the double post above. I only pushed the submit button once, honest!
I was actually describing the "standard" way that all of O2's XDA's get setup when they are first turned on from new and that means that usually, under "Connections", "Select Networks" then "Network Management", you will normally see "My ISP" in the top box for progs that automatically connect to the Internet and "My Work Network" in the lower box for progs that automatically connect to a private network and this is where the problem lays.
In hindsight, I wasn't particularly helpful to Tetragrammaton since I didn't provide the actual solution he was looking for simply because I got too wrapped up in bashing the PPC's network client (or lack of a full one anyway...)
The solution is of course to simply make the bottom box equal to the top box (i.e. "My ISP") and immediately this will change the behaviour to that as you so correctly described (being able to connect to the Internet and to a Local LAN machine simultaneously) and will obviate the need to swap the destination of the Network Card settings themselves (which only gives one way connectivity with Wireless anyway).
I'm guessing that your machine is set this way Henny? Which of course will work as you describe.
The only caveat to doing this is that you disable the O2 WAP settings (which are normally configured under the "My Work Network" part) but whether this is a great loss is a moot point. In any case, the lower box in "Network Management" can always be switched back temporarily should you need the WAP settings back.
I hope this has now helped Tetragrammaton to get up and running...
I should hastely add that my offered solution in the last post still won't allow you to browse LAN machines while connected in the cradle (I've just tried it) so if anyone knows a way to do this, I would be interested...

I haven't been able to try your suggestion yet, but just so we're clear, you're talking about browsing the files on LAN machines while the XDA2 (not 2i or 2s) is connected via ActiveSync? I think that's what tetragrammaton was asking in the original post. I have a suspicion that this post has been taken over with discussions about browsing the LAN using a wi-fi connection, not ActiveSync... Of course the XDA2 (which tetragrammaton mentions) doesn't have wi-fi

True and you are absolutely right on all counts. Browsing LAN machines via activesync using an XDAII in a USB cradle.

In that case I'm confused . Sorry. If it doesn't work in the cradle, but you're not talking about doing it through a wi-fi connection, what does your solution actually do? Apologies if I'm being a bit thick here - I'm ill with the 'flu.
I'm nervous about starting to mess about with the connections settings on my XDA2 just so that I can browse files on the network - every time I do this I end up screwing them up. I don't understand them at all and usually a hard reset with the auto-config is the only way to get it all working again.
I'll do a synopsis of this thread so far this evening. Bit tied up at work at the moment. Hope that's ok...
This has been covered many many times. It is impossible as currently set up. The best way to achieve this is to buy Pocket LAN, it works perfectly
I've had a quick look at that but that would be for just Wireless LAN connectivity, right? ...and as has already been pointed out to me (correctly), the original question was not about wireless.
NO!!!! This works through active sync with the xda in the cradle, worked on xda2 and 2i for me. Actually it is a bit of a waste of money as i never use it, though it seemed agreat idea at the time.

I've googled "Pocket LAN" and came up with a bunch of hits though none of them seem to be the right hit. If Pocket LAN seems to do the trick of accessing a network via the USB cradle only, could you post the link to Pocket LAN? Thanks!
http://www.pocketlance.com/register/index.shtml it says for ce or 2002 but works on 2003 and 2003se.
Hope this helps
You can find it (PocketLAN) here...
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=2825
Contrary to what Barney found, it didn't work at all for my XDAIIi in the cradle. The usual "network path not found" was all it could muster...
Even wirelessly I found it cumbersome and a bit iffy at connecting to machines at times. It does no more than Resco Explorers built-in network stuff. It also seeks to start messing with the device name etc and generally "muscle-in" and take over... Resco Exp does it without fuss, quietly and efficiently. More importantly, it works everytime but I'm afraid even it can't manage to connect to LAN machines through the cradle and AS.
Sorry about no (promised) post last night. Just didn't get the time. I'll try again for later today.

Bluetooth file exchange on Mogul

I can pair with my mac, but cannot send files. Does anyone have any links or explanation of how to exchange with 6800 and mac?
Thanks,
It can only do it through activesync or windows mobile center. I'm not sure if the missing sync will explore the device and transfer files, but it might since it syncs over BT. check it out. http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_palmos.php
At my work we have IMAC's and when i send a file to them I dont even need to pair to the computer. That is if i disable authentication (KEY). When i send something to the computer a prompt screen pops up on the screen asking if i want to download and save the file.
No issues here.

How do you disable authentication?
Can you send from IMac to phone?
I have the 24" imac and I would love to have some connectivity. I cannot connect to our work server for file sharing due to firewall issues. I have broadband but no networking at work, only at home.

Under the Apple tab at your top left hand side there is a submenu in it.
Under System Preferences go to Hardware -- bluetooth-- and once in go to the sharing tab and all the information you would need is there. From enabling file sharing, making your computer visible, allowing sync with your PDA and so on.
Since I've been trying to transfer files between my Mogul and iMac (and failing miserably for quite a while), I thought I'd share what I found -
Problem - Transferring from iMac to Mogul worked fine. Transferring from Mogul to iMac resulted in "Fail" almost immediately. Tried deleting the bluetooth pairing, re-pairing and tried other programs to assist the bluetooth without luck.
Finally looked at the "Help" section of "Bluetooth File Exchange" on the iMac (running OSX 10.5.2) - and discovered I didn't have file sharing via bluetooth turned on! What a knucklehead...
In System Preferences, under "Internet and Network", select "Sharing." All I had to do was check the box to turn on the "Bluetooth Sharing" service, and transfers both way between my iMac and Mogul are working fine.
Hope that helps someone!

connected my phone to my computer thru wireless, how do i transfer files?

ok i have set everything up and my phone and laptop connect to each other fine, but i can't figure out how to transfer files to and from the pc to the phone and from the phone to the pc lol.
i want to get some photos off my phone and put on my laptop and vice versa.
please dont say "get bluetooth" or "use the USB cable" if you can't offer a solution to THIS problem please dont bother even saying anything.
sick of looking around the internet at the sheer amount of people who would rather offer up a solution of "buying a bluetooth dongle" instead of just helping someone figure out a problem.
but anyway mini rant over, any help would be greatly apprecaited.
if it helps any im using miris latest ROM.
I use Total Commander. Works great and free.
you can easily browse network shares with internet explorer. once you are on the same wlan as the computer you want to transfer files to. just open IE and type file://\\whatever your computers name is\ into the address bar and it will show you the shared folders on that computer.

GENE - Internet access thru PC's Bluetooth Connection

I recently successful upgrade my GENE to WM 6.1 because i had many problems.
One of my problems is how to connect my GENE to my PC thru Bluetooth connection, my PC has WIFI connected to router at home.
i searched forums too much for accurate steps to do so, and i think it is a good idea to help all ppl here if i got a clear procedure to do so here.
Thanks in Advance.
I have no time to explain step-by-step here, but the first thing you have to do is make activesync works with bluetooth. When you are done, you could open PIE or opera and access the internet.

Any how, i appreciate your reply.
i'll try to google about this solution.
thanks a ton
Its very easy. I do it all the time.
Make sure BT is on on both PC and phone.
open activesync on phone and right softkey-> connect via bluetooth.
if they aren't paired you'll get the standard pairing screen etc.
now, when pairing make sure activesync is open on the desktop. And make sure activesync-> connection settings on the PC has 'allow connection to one of the following set to the correct COM port for BT (mine is COM12) Ideally, after doing this right, you should have 'activesync' appear as one of the services that your desktop can provide via BT.
Accept and repeat the first step
Note: If you get a dialog asking if serial connection should be made then accept it. (will come on PC)
once connected go to activesync on the PC. In options, select 'The internet' as the network the PC is connected to.
Just play around with the basic settings.
One thing to note is that you might have to configure the COM port on activesync in the desktop.
I set the COM ports up once long ago (purely by trying every combo there was) and forgot exactly how. I think it'll vary from PC to PC. However, I've been re-pairing a lot over and over again cause I've been trying out a lot of different ROMs... And I've not needed to change the COM port settings even once.
Basically, all you need is to connect to activesync via BT and you'll be able to use you's PC's connection on the phone.
This is for XP btw. Vista is mostly similar. I think its more straightforward though... most of the things are done automatically.
Hope it helped
Ya, follow charge1313's advice and if you dont get internet access even after this, download the attached registry file and double click it on your PC and reboot. This will enable the functionality, sometimes it gets disabled specially if you install Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
Have Fun!

SP2 was released on 26 May to public. To get it, go here :
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dd262148.aspx
Size depends on the download you choose, for 32bit machines its 348 MB in size.
Installing it freshened up my 1 year old Vista installation a bit, it became a little speedier. To tell you about the changes, the only thing i have noticed myself is the change of bluetooth stack to version 2.1 of bluetooth standard. The whole interface of bluetooth, the dialog boxes etc are also changed to a bit leaner looking ones
Both ways working .............
hmmmmmmmmmmmm Krazy/charge world
