Pocket ie - password or address bar removal - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi y'all, Anyone know how to password protect pocket ie (similar to content advisor on desktop ie) or if there is a way to completely remove the pocket ie address bar to prevent unauthorised internet useage. Thanks in advance BGA

Why not just remove PIE?
Why try to handicap it? It can still be used by directly launching urls.
Just disable the app completely.

Managers of the companies which we supply to usually require net access and get a bit shirty if its not there - the easiest way to do this would I think be to create 2 different images - 1 for users, with ie removed, and 1 for managers. Thanks for the response

Pocket Internet Explorer

Hi.
I was wondering if anyone could help on this one. I need to identify the registry keys on an XDA IIi to allow me to remove certain toolbars/options within the pocket internet explorer. E.g Address bar etc.. Home icon etc. This is so that i can stop users from accessing other sites on the net and stay locked into a website on the XDA. Any ideas?

Crossbow - Remote Desktop Mobile

Finally Microsoft have got their act together and provided a pretty good RDP client.
Crossbow's client is much better than previous versions offering friendly full screen support with which it is simple to toggle betweet RDP Mobile and other applcations.
(On a Full screen RDP session just press the Ok button to be presented with a Yes/No box offering to disconnect, selecting NO will leave the session intact and just , move it to the background without needing to logon again.)
Also from a fullscreen session just hit either of the buttons mapped to the softkeys to toggle back to windowed mode (Start bar visible).
Encrytion has been improved as RDP mobile nolonger requires the connection to be downgraded to Client Compatible.
I'm not forgetting the other documented features such as a coice of 256 Colours or High Colour (16 bit) and the ability to map audi from the server to the PPC.
Considering VJ's excellent VJFSTSC app was usually one of the first things to be installed after a rom upgrade I'm glad Microsoft have made their client not just usable but they have provided a long overdue (No change between 2003 & WM5) overhaul.
Taking things a little further I was surprised that Nyditot's Virtual Display works on Crossbow and the RDP client will allow a 800x600 screen (probably any res you choose) provided that the Fit to screen option is used.
Taz, I was slow to update VJFSTSC because I 'had a feeling' about remote desktop.. I don't know if there's any point continuing with my app, but I can think of some improvements to the new client, so maybe I can move in a different direction.
Many thanks for the review though. How do you find performance?
V
Try to get remote [email protected] 16 colors.
And now for a couple of pprblems with the new RDP Client
Hopefully these will be addressed by Microsoft before Crossbow/WM6 is officially released.
1. Remote Desktop Mobile will nolonger initiate a VPN through the Exceptions list within the Connections' settings. If you need to connect through a VPN you now need to connect to a VPN manually before connecting through Remote Desktop Mobile.
2. The auto fill for the Computer you wish to connect to can be a little awkward.
Once a few computers have been added, trying to connect to an additional computer with a similar name/IP to one already cached can result in RDM automattically filling in the details of a prev entered computer.
Trying to delete part of the pre-empted details results in the whole field being emptied but as you start to type the computer details again the autofill adds a previously entered computer again. The workaround is to enter the new computer name in one of the other fields and cut/paste it into the 'Computer' field.
VJ if you are considering a VJRDM application here are a few suggestions.
1. Maintain a list of computers & credential within your own application so that selecting which computer you wish to connect to will automatically launch RDM and connect to the required computer.
2. Include an option to automattically choose the Internet/Work connection and if your own database of details is maintained, allow these settings to be saved alongside the Username,Password, Domain and other settings.
3. The ability to program a WM device's hardware keys for CTRL, Esc, Alt and other Windows functions whilst using RDM without needing to reprogram these keys at the device level would be excellent
(ie launch VJRDM and the E-mail key becomes CTRL, Home becomes ALT but only whilst VJRDM is active. Whilst using other applications these keys retain their original function.)
4. Finally an option to temp disable push e-mail whilst connecting over a VPN would be handy as it would save activesync closing the VPN connection eveytime it tries to connect and shutting down the VPN.
Even with the above couple of problems DRM is far better than the terminal service client.
Does anyone know of a small application to launch a VPN without having to wade through the Connections' settings?
onlineemails I was about to suggest setting the colour depth on the server but it appears that XP and 2003 have a min depth of 8 bit (256 colours)
Hi all, is it possible to copy all the files from WM6 RDM on to a WM5 Universal, therefore being able to use the more advanced RDM on WM5?, as RDM is the ony reason i would upgrade to WM6.
Thanks
Does anyone know the file names for Remote Desktop in Crossbow?
Hi,
I am looking for a better Remote Desktop client for WM5 on my HTC Hermes.
With screen resolution setting...
Unfortunately I couldn't find anything useful.
Maybe I could use the new client from WM6.
How can I find it ?
Can anyone who has WM6, send it to me please?
Or maybe you can suggesta good client for WM5 ?
Thanks
can remote desktop be used when the universal is not connected to a home network, but through the internet with gprs/umts??
i havent got logmein working with crossbow yet :S
logmein works for me. I'm using Midgets vanilla rom at the mo.
stupid me... it does work with IE, just not with opera :$
can I use higher res than 640*480? my school's term server is requesting a minimum resolution of 800*600...
is there anyway to get wm6 remote dsektop in wm5?
i had my brother forward port 3389 from the network server to my pc and now the remote desktop works perfect with the gprs/umts connection
way better then LogMeIn

firewall filtering by application

I would like to control which application may access the Internet and which may not.
Thus, not in the IP/Protocol/Port level, but by application name instead.
I tried "Airscanner Mobile" and "ProtectStar Mobile Firewall", but it is not possible to create filtering rules based on application name. It is difficult to know which Protocol/Port/Service is used by any application.
I don't have a fixed monthly data line rate, and I want to let access to the Net for some application, and block it for other ones.
Who can guide me to an existing firewall application that implements this
behavior?
Thanks in advance.

Hacking to clear security settings created by lotus traveller

My company which uses lotus traveler to enable access to corporate mail and calendar on WM devices. I installed this on my HTC HD running WM6.5 (Dutty Leo ROM). The installation has forcing us to use strong alphanumeric passwords and also greyed out the "prompt if unused for" radio button where you would typically turn off the phone password locking. This has rendering the phone virtually unusable as it takes 3 mins to enter a strong alpha password each time you use the phone...brilliant!
Is there a hack/registry edit that I can use to un-grey this button so I can turn it off and start using my phone normally again.
Any suggestions would be appreciated...
It's probably not related to the Lotus Traveller itself, but with the company enforced policies included in the CAB file - I presume You got the CAB from the company, not the Lotus/IBM website. At least that was the case in our company, that they forced to use the simple PIN lock with Exchange sync - I was already bothered by the simple PIN, so I dropped the whole idea. But I suggest You take a look in the CAB file, if You can still get it and see what changes does it make in the registry. Or You can also ask from Your company IT guys about the WM policies they have to enforce, they should know.
Anyway, hope You have some directions to go now.
Thanks for the suggestions....
1) I tried removing the lotus traveler application - this had the effect of removing the security enforcement. I reinstalled it and it was enforced again.
2) The traveler application launches automatically when the phone boots up. So I removed it from the startup sequence. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem. So I think there must be a registry setting somewhere that is set and monitored by the application.
3) I also looked in the setup.xml file that was in the traveler.cab installation file. I could not find any registry mods that were related to security.
4) The traveler release notes say the following: Customizable device password strength enforcement rules!
Traveler provides a built-in set of default device preferences and security settings that an administrator can modify for use when a device initially registers with Lotus Notes Traveler. The default device settings for users come from the Traveler administration database default device settings document. Users can change their device preference settings from their devices, but only an Traveler administrator can change device security settings.
Suggestions?
In the last few days I have browsed the registry quite thoroughly and there doesn't appear to be key that controls whether radio buttons are active or not (greyed out). I was hoping to make the "prompt if unused for" radio button active again so I could manually switch it off.
I'm out of ideas....any suggestions pls
i have lotus traveler installed on my tp 2 i have flashed my phone many times and reinstalled lotus and have had no problems. can you post a screen shot.
Security Policy
Hi
I am a Notes admin and can confirm this is a polcy that has been set to secure company data on mobile devices. Most companies have a policy that requires company information/access be secured especially on things like mobile devices.
Think about it, your company email system would be available to anyone stealing or finding your phone. While this may not worry you, it could be a cause for concern for your company executives or auditors - and could be a compliance issue in many industries.
The policy is set on the email server itself and pushed down and enforced on the device so it cannot be bypassed.
To remove it or get a less secure PIN you will need to speak to your company Lotus Notes admin.
This is an issue I have seen before and can cause conflicts between employees who use their own phones and resent the way they use them being changed and those concerned with securing and protecting their company.
Hope that helps but the long and short is speak to your email admins. The security policy is not default so someone must have set it up that way for a reason.
MIUI used to have an option to disable the password option even when it is enabled/enforced by Notes Traveler. However the new versions of miui do not have this.

why not have the security measures focus on the app?

Click to collapse
so why not have the security measures focus on securing the app and the app data? personally, I don't mind the 24/7 emails...but making me lock my phone so the company can blow up my phone at 7pm on a sunday...LAME.
Are there any news? I would like to remove the LockScreen security and want to use ibm verse.
