Hey Everybody,
I'm currently traveling Asia and I'm now in Vietnam....
For the past hour, I've been trying to figure out how to activate GPRS using the Mobifone network.
GPRS setting info was hard to come by since everything is in Vietnamese.
Just wanted to share with the Windows Mobile community on how to activate GPRS on Mobifone Vietnam.
First... purchase a Mobifone sim card.... should cost VND 75,000.00.
Next, you'll need to activate GPRS by sending the following text to 994: Dk Gprs
Next.... wait until you get a text back from 994. The text will be in Vietnamese but I believe it says your GPRS is activated.... next thing you'll notice is that you'll now have a "G" icon appear up top telling you that your GPRS is activated.
Next, setup a GPRS connection with the following info:
APN/GPRS access point: m-wap
Username: mms
Password: mms
Proxy Settings:
HTTP: 203.162.21.107:8080
WAP: 203.162.21.107:9201
SECURE WAP: 203.162.21.107:9201
These settings worked for me so don't flame me if I added to little or too much settings
Enjoy
Thanks. Just wanted to confirm it still works as described (16.01.11)
After sending the sms, I only needed the apn, username and password (for android) and 3g was enabled.

awesome, thanks for updating!
i was over there last summer but was using an iphone. i'll have to setup my DIinc2 this time around
I'm in Vietnam now and can also confirm that the settings work. In case others may get confused, you only need to enter one of the proxy settings, not all three that the OP listed (at least on my Dinc2 running 2.2).
also, as a bonus, since I was using my old sim which already had gprs activated from my last trip, I didn't have to activate it again, just punch in the apn settings
Turning on 3G and packages
After the SIM is registered to use GPRS, data still needs to be turned on.
With my Android phone I didn't need to put in an APN. I just texted DATA_ON to 999 and restarted my phone. 3g was then activated.
If you Google mobiphone 3G, choose mobile internet, and click on "giá cước" you can see all the packages you can register for.
Cước thuê bao is the cost in VN dong. Lưu lượng miễn phí is the amount of MB you can download with that package for free. Thời hạn sử dụng is the expiration time to use this amount (ngày = days).
Hope that helps!
I'll thank you properly as soon as I've made enough posts to have a thank you button! I think this is a silly rule - aren't there enough checks to ensure I'm not a spammer already??

T Mobile are a bunch a t******.
I asked them if they could provide me with the GPRS setting so that I could use it with my XDA - their response 'we dont support that phone'.
OK I said just give me the settings and I'll set it up - their response 'we dont support that phone'.
So I say, lets pretend I've got a Nokia give me the settings and I'll sort it out - their response 'Nokia settings are totally different to XDA so we cant give you those settings'
Finally I say, lets pretend I've got a non competitor product (Siemens SX45, HP Jornada 928, Palm Tungsten W....anything) JUST GIVE ME THE SETTINGS - their reponse - THEY PUT THE PHONE DOWN!!
So my questions is does anyone have the settings so that I can start using GRPS on my XDA.
Thanks

Hi,
I'm in excatly the same position as you. Also have an unlocked XDA on t-Mobile. Took me ages to get the settings out of them ( they are a bunch of mentally handicapped people at the best of times...)
Bad part for me is..even with these settings...it takes a while to connect...and sometimes it does not connect at all...Your luck my vary ( please let me know if you have any success)
1.Under connections, create a new connection and choose "Cellular Line (GPRS) " modem as the modem type.
2.Leave everything else on defaults.
3.When it asks you for an access point, type "general.t-mobile.uk" ( it is not a spelling mistake it is .uk and not .co.uk)
4. Click finish
5. Under GPRS Authentication choose "CHAP"
6. Under CSD Line type choose "Analogue"
7. Make sure that when you dial that the GPRS connection number is +0~GPRS!general.t-mobile.uk -> set the area code and country code both to 0.
8. Make sure that there is a "G" next to the operator name ( when you click on the signal strength box). If you don't have this..t-mobile has not switched on your GPRS account. Call them and ask them to enable "GPRS Data" for your account. Not WAP, MMS or something else but "GPRS Data" (they are clueless)
9. If you still have problems...call tmobile support..but instead of talking to them..ask to speak to the data support team. ( these guys actually know a bit more...but not much...- at least they know what data GPRS is)
All in all I spoke to a guy a carphonewarehouse...and he has tried t-mobile, vodafone, orange and o2. He told me that all of these services only offer gprs at 9600 except for orange ( which he seemed to like ), that offer gprs at 19200 and that they are pretty clued up.
Anyway..hope it helps.

Thanks for your reply. I'll try this out and let you know how I get on.
Incidentally when I was on the phone to them they said that they dont support any PDA's and have no instructions - I've checked, its on their website!!
I also mentioned to them that this exact same phone is available in USA, Germany, Austria, Poland and Czech Republic under the name MDA.
Thinking about it, maybe I ought to be working for T Mobile, because I sure as hell know a lot more than their 'call centre staff'

network log on
Thanks for the post Milmber. I followed your instructions and when i try to use GPRS I get a message saying
Network Log on
Resources T-Mobile
Then it asks for user name, password, domain.
Any idea what this should be or have I done something wrong
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Sorry...forget to add the username and password...could have sworn I put it in ;-)
Well anyway, when you get prompted add only a username and password:
Username is "user"
Password is "one2one"
Let me know how you manage....
...btwI left the domain setting empty...but your milage my vary...
Hi Prime,
Just to let you know...tried the GPRS again today ( with the settings I gave you above...) and the GPRS seems to be working fine.
I'm starting to wonder if it has something to do with the T-Mobile signal strength..since this works for me here at work...but not at home....
Hi Milmber
I found a website that gives the lastest settings and it states that the settings are:
'user'
't-mobile'
This seems to work as well.
If you want the email address, let me know.

Hi Prime,
if you could post/email me the address of the settings page you found that would be much appreciated!

OK, I'm a pretty technical guy and I'm still stumped. I've tried entering the T-Mobile provided info into EZ WAP but am obviously not mapping their connection settings info to the right fields in EZ WAP. AFter a couple of hours of tinkering and several searches here I'm caving in and asking for help.
Can somone post the "play by play" EZ WAP setup for T-Mo US?

what info did they give you?... When i calld, they gave me the run-around...plus I tried to ask them why I can't connect threw "internet2.voicetream.com"... & they sound like they gettin mad @ me, an start askin why I need to know all this...
...TMO needs an attitude adjustment
Unfortunately, I agree that the carrier's data specialists are often little or no help. Every question you ask, it turns out that they either:
a. Don't know
b. Pretend to know and give you the wrong answer
c. Assume you're with the Taliban and are trying to break in to their WAP system to threaten civilization
I got the T-Mo official settings at:
http://www.t-mobile.com/help/services/tz/configother.asp
and they are echoed at:
http://www.theody.com/t-mobile.html
Again, the info on these pages doesn't map directly into the connection settings on the PPC or to the settings in EZ WAP. I tries a few intuitive mappings and failed.

I was pulling my hair out on this and have never found any of these settings you spelled out here or on any T-Mo site. It took a few minutes for you to type all that in and I appreciate it.
I was live on T-Zones about 5 minutes after I saw your reply, working perfectly.
Interesting observation, maybe it's an error on my part... I tried your settings in EZ WAP, but connecting through my usual internet2.xxx and the T-Zones stuff wouldn't come up. Other wap sites in EZ WAP would, like yahoo, but not T-Zones. I created a connection called WAP (like you used in your example) and made the APN wap.xxx and it works fine, AND nPOP pulled my mail through it to.
So I'm curious if these statements are true:
1. You can pull WAP and http/smtp through internet2.voicestream.com, but not necessarily T-Mobile's proprietary T-Zones WAP.
2. You can pull WAP, http/smtp, and T-Zones through wap.voicestream.com
If these are true, then I assume that wap.xxx and internet2.xxx are functionaly the same except that wap.xxx gateway has the t-zones subscriber authentication built into it, rather than on the content server.
Since my GPRS connection is always on, I don't want to have to switch connections between wap and nPOP/web sessions, would prefer to stay with one.
@Mad Max
I'm pretty sure your assumption abut that wap.xxx and internet2.xxx functionally are correct and thats why the wap.voicestream AP is my all around AP of choice (its my main T-Mobile AP).
FYI before upgrading to WM2003 the wap AP was also the only AP that would work with Pocket Hotmail 2.0, which now doen't work at all under WM2003.
Anyhow have fun!
anyone got the ATTWS Settings for this?
MMS and Tmobile US with XDA II
I finally received my XDA II this afternoon.. I have spent most of my afternoon trying to fix this MMS thing. I have used the base software, added EZWap 2.5... Tried every configuration.. Call the useless bozos on Tmobile but couldnt get this darn MMS thing to work...
Can someone please answer my 2 questions
1) What settings do you need with TMO?
2) What plans do you need with TMO?
19.99 All internet + 2.99 + 4.99 etc
Thanks
my MMS works fine, on 2002.
and though i have the internet from tmobile ($19)
goin about it via the wap.voicestream.com works just as good
for browsing net, and using tzones, and mms ofcourse.
the only drawback i hear, is you cant use secure servers on wap.
although i've checked my INBOX several times via wap, and it worked just fine for me.
check your settings from Qman again.
you maybe one digit off.
good luck.
ps: after you set it, if you want to test the mms, give me a buzz.
Hmm...
It is interesting, in my case the Pocket Internet Explorer works.. MMS doesnt and the EZWAP doesnt work...
It is bizzare... I have checked and rechecked each setup as provided by QMAN twice.. Had another person verify it for me...

If you're sure that the settings are OK, my next suspect would be an account setting issue. Unfortunately, getting help from the carriers in debugging that could be pretty tough.
more
more on the Xda ii. I am posting this message from the XDA. I still cannot send or receive MMS. I had a friend of mine send me a MMS and he got a error message that my phone cannot receive MMS and that a text message would be sent.
I received a notification about the MMS but couldn't retrieve it.
any suggestions
Finally got it working
Finally got it working... There was a MMS Server setting on the network that was missing and took me 18 calls and 95 minutes on the phone with TMobile to get it right.
I can now receive and send MMS to myself.. Looks like the MMS in TMO US is limited to TMO US customers only. I can only send MMS to other TMO US customers.

What was the MMS server name? I'm in Austin, TX, just got a iMate XDA II and can't get my MMS working either.
Do you have to have a plan for MMS? I have the $20 internet already.
What parameters settings do you need in MMS Composer?
What parameter setting do you need in My ISP connection?
Thanks so much,
Craig

I have the unlimited MMS for 4.99 you will need that to send MMS. My MMS settings are all the same. I also have the unlimited WAP for 2.99 and I use the wap.voicestream.net for MMS...
MMS
I talked with T-Mobile. Since I already had the internet access service, T-Zones is already enabled. They said all I need for MMS is T-Zones. I set the right server, ip, etc. I could never receive a MMS picture message to myself. All that came through was the text portion witha download link to tap. Tapping it just brought another text header message. TMO was no help either. Afterwards, ALL my alerts (weather, sticks) started coming to my MMS but I couldn't read anything. I finally had to call TMO to have them remove my phone # off the wap server for t-zones to stop MMS and resume SMS messaging.
Any thoughts on this chain of events?
mms config telfort
got an xda1 with a custom rom, offcourse is there no autoconfig, i can't find the settings for mms in holland (telfort)
you need to install EzWAP 2.5 or its equivilant.
that will add MMS to xda1
good luck.
Hello everyone, i'm newbie here. I just bought a xda exec and i want to sign up for T-Mobile Total Internet in USA for GPRS service. I wonder if anybody has done it and how was it? How fast is it because as I contacted their customer service, they said they don't know anything about xda exec settings.
Thanks advanced for any reply.
Simple..
1) Make sure its unlocked
2) Get SIM card from T-mobile and insert
3) For intetnet go to Settings and then Connections
4) Under "My ISP" click "Add a new modem connection"
5) Name connection T-mobile
6) In the type of connection detail use "Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)"
7) Access point will be - wap.voicestream.com
8) Click next, then click finish. Do not need the set any advanced settings or Passwords or login.
Just posted this on my MDA PRO with the newest DOPOD ROM
Connections are good, but othside the metro areas I havent had much luck WiFi works great.
7) Access point will be - wap.voicestream.com
----> T-Mobile offers 2 different data plans: if you go with the cheap one, named T-Mobile Web, you get access to the wap sites only, and you will be using the wap.voicestream.com access point.
If you go with the second plan (a lot more expensive) named Total Internet, you will hit the internet, and you will use the access point internet2.voicestream.com
Most people can hit most of the www by simply subscribing to the T-Mobile Web (the wap plan) and then configure the following proxy in the connection settings:
HTTP proxy: getmorespeed.voicestream.com port 8080.
Interesting.. since I have teh big plan.. will see how the other settigns work for me.
thanks,
Thanks for the reply, I think im gonna go with the big one since I use the T-Mobile Hot Spot too. Thanks so much though...
I tried the settings as you describe but my browser (IE) still returns an error stating that the page could not be located. I've been playing around with my Exec for 2 days now since it arrived and have yet to get this to work. Thanks in advance because I know you guys have alot of experience.
Dre
Thanks for all the information, my exeec is still on his way so I haven't really tried anything out yet. But one more question if someone could help, will I be able to access to free email services such as hotmail, yahoo mail? because my understanding is if you use the cheap plan one, you can browsing the websites but not be able to send/receive emails. Thanks,
hey
I use this already just use wap.voicestream.com. It doesn't matter the diffrences are one you have a public address and the other you have a private address. Everything works through wap.voicestream.com. Don't put the proxy settings in just the gprs
Hello,
I have a G1 unlocked with the imei but after that I can't pass the google registration !
Is it possible to config the first launch with Wifi or does somebody have the configuration for france market (SFR)
I launch it with the safemode but i have the samescreen (google setup!!!)
i you have any idea????
thanks
You should be able to escape out of that and go back to it later.
Yeah, you should be able to get to Settings through Safe Mode, and then change the Network Settings to match those of your carrier.
You cannot pass the registration with safe mode. Its not even possible. As for the problem I have no idea because you need to connect to the internet to activate it. If you are trying to set up a new gmail account try setting it up on your computer first then try to log in.
first input carrier settings
Hi,
When you power on the device, and you get to the details screen for your account, press "Menu", then add APN.
Give it your carriers name, input APN, + the other details relative to your carrier and don't forget the MCC and MNC codes in the bottom of that list.
Once you've done that, press menu again and save the configuration.
If you have GPRS and/or 3G activated on your SIM, you should be able to run thru the setup and it should finish by syncing your account from Google.
Now, if you don't have a data plan, but are able to access internet with that SIM, my advise would be to clean up Google mail and contacts so it needs to sync as little data possible.
After that, you can activate WIFI and sync using WIFI.
Hope this helps you out a bit.
Found this on Wikipedia, too. List of all the MNC and MCC codes worldwide:
MNC
MCC

A man make his G1 works on SFR french network deleting all preconfigurated APNs and adding only WebSFR or WapSFR.
You can see the method he used in French on my blog here
yay! G1 in Finland
Thanks Charleybrown00! Your instructions worked perfectly!
Firstly, my apologies for even being on this forum as I'm a complete novice but I was directed to this thread.
As I live in Sydney, Australia and I'm in the process of buying a G1 from eBay, I've been searching for how to register it and I've found the following APN info for Optus
GPRS APN: - internet
Username: - {blank}
Password: - {blank}
DNS: - 202.139.83.3, 192.65.91.129
http://www.decoder.com.au/2008/10/03/optus-australia-apn-settings/
Could you please advise me if as I don't use IM and will be using Gmail for my mail, is this sufficient info to register the G1.
Thanks
Darryl
Does any one know how to make the MMS work?
I dont see a place to input the info on the straight talk activation instructions.
MMSC
MMS Proxy
MMS Port
I was only able to find the place to input the APN (att.mvno) doing this made the internet work.
So when I get a pic mail my phone shows me the text from it and tries to download it. But it fails. says Invalid MSISDN Number Received.
SMS works fine.
Sprint Touch Pro 2 TP2 Windows mobile 6.5. I have the Wall mart straight talk $15 sim card (bring your own phone) plan. I put it in the sim card slot on my Sprint TP2 and went through the steps to enable the phone to use GSM towers in the states. Calling works. But internet is only on EDGE (slower then sprints 1X) I think that is all the phone is capable of with the GSM raido it contains.
I searched the registry and found something like Http://mms.sprintmms.com changed it to http://mmsc.cingular.com and that did not work.
I dialed ##778# and hit view. there is nothing in there that looked related.
I went to start, settings, connections, connections, manage existing connections, and deleted what was there and maid a new one called Data and put att.mvno as the Access point name but there is no place to enter the mms settings in there.
I have searched google for hours and days. I give up. Some one out there has got to know the answer. Can you help?

In your MMS app, go to menu>MMS options>servers>add new server. If it's greyed out you have to do a reg edit in HKLM>Software>ArcSoft>MUI and look for "enable server edit" and change the DWORD to "1" After you change that, go back to the MMS options and "add new server" with the following data:
Server - Straight Talk MMS
Gateway - 66.209.11.33
URL - http://mmsc.cingular.com
Port - 80
Connect Via - Whatever you named your connection previously.
When you're done make sure you set that as your default server. I'm doing this from memory so I may have missed a step or the reg edit key may be named differently on the Sprint TP2. BTW, the Sprint and Verizon TP2 only supports EDGE speeds on the AT&T bands. 3G is for the AWS (1700) band like T-Mobile, HTC really screwed the pooch on that one.
Nice thank you very much for your help. My mms works now. I cant believe I did not think to check in my mms program for the place to enter the settings.
I did have to change the registry value to a 1 to gain access to the greyed out button. It was in HKLM>Software>ArcSoft>Arcsoft MMS UA>Config>UI>
Now if I can only get the mms and the sms time to be correct. Do you know any thing about that? My friend can be sitting next to me and send me a sms that I get instantly but the incoming time on the message shows totally wrong. It was like this when I was on Sprints service also. I flashed stock 6.1 and 6.5 and neither fixed it. I have Since or Touch Flow or what ever its called turned off. Just running basic home screen Spb Pocket plus 4.1.0, Spb Phone Suite 1.3.1, Garmin, Pocket shield and some other basic programs. I have a faint memory that out of the box this was not a problem. It may have been after I flashed and installed that it started. But then why did flashing back to stock not fix it? I have never flashed anything other then stock.

So you say that I can get 3G if I get the Wallmart Straight Talk sim card that uses Tmobile? Wow I will try that. My brother just ordered one from Straight talk for his T mobile branded TP2. I will try it in my phone. T mobile has almost as good of reception here on the big island of hawaii as AT&T does.

See, I didn't buy the Walmart ST SIM. I went straight to their website (straighttalkgsm.com) and got an AT&T SIM. I know you have the choice of T-Mobile or AT&T but I think it depends on the area code you will be using. As for the time stamp issue, that sounds more like a software bug than a carrier issue. Just for ****s and giggles, did you enter the proxy info in your connections? I know when I use the proxy info, mobilespeedtest.com reports my ISP as AT&T-Cingular, when I go without the proxy it lists my ISP as "shared block". Whatever that means. Google Maps also locates me faster when I have the proxy info entered. Of course, when I have to tether, I un-check proxy settings. BTW, you didn't hear that from me.

Wow checking the proxy box and putting in 66.209.11.33 does change my results from Shared IP Block to At&t. And it is 4 times faster.
I was getting a consistent download speed of only 77 Kbps and 1.1 Latency
Now I get 295 down and 2.1 Latency.
Im testing some data intensive websights now. Ok they are much faster now. All most as fast as my week reception sprint EVDO revA phone tethered to my router. The only thing sprint has over ST is that sprint does not throttle me until 30 gigs. And I have read that with the AT&T ST sim people are not getting away with much. DSL just came to my part of the jungle so I got rid of my sprint plan. I have no need to tether so much now.
I edited out my confusion from the above posts. It looks like I will never have 3g on the t-mobile or AT&T sim card on my TP2. Here is a link to some supportive reading about why 3G will not work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561656
One more thing I can send and receive Hotmail but cant send and receive Yahoo. When I try it says "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings. Settings". Then If I uncheck proxy it works but then I have to go back later to re check and put in 66.209.11.33 to get my faster speed back. Why can Hotmail do it but Yahoo can not?
I had the same problem and all I did was flash a new radio which helped with signal.
Just for fun I put a T-mobile sim card from T-mobile in my TP2. My Edge internet was very slow. So put in the proxy that Straight talk gives there users with T-mobile sims and it was still very slow. Super slow compared to using the Att proxy with the ATT ST sim in my TP2.
One interesting thing I noticed is that this sim had many more electrical contact points on it and it automatically set up the correct MMS setting for me. In comparison the ST sim card had lass contact points and I had to enter the MMS manually my self.
This TP2 Im using this week is bone stock out of the box and it is not handling daylight savings time correctly when putting the time stamp on the sms. I bet there are many good threads about fixing this I have not yet searched.

Simple the settings for the Hotmail account where correct and the ones for yahoo where not.
So this was an easy fix. I click on my sms program. click menu, tools, options, click on my yahoo account, edit account setup, next, next, next, next, advanced server settings. So in here is where i had it wrong. It was on my old internet settings so I changed "network connection" to "internet" that way it will even sync my email using wifi if its on and has internet, instead of needlessly requiring to dial up over the cell data connection.
I tryed this change in the MMS settings also but my MMS wont send so I had to change it back to the cellular data connection.
