I am connected with the network through wifi router but when i try to browse internet explorer a dialouge box pops ups saying
THE PAGE CANNOT BE FOUND}CHACK THE NAME AND TRY AGAIN
I tried sites as www.yahoo.com and www.msn.com but it is giving me the same.
Anyone knows what am i doing wrong
Thank you
try your router settings.
i tried but i don t know what i am doing wrong it seems that everything is ok.
do you have something specific in mind that you might think this fault is coming from
thank you
I did a hard reset and abracadabra it is working fine now. Don t know what happened.
OK so after having problems connecting my XDA2s to my laptop via wifi to use it's ADSL connection, I began to realise it was a major issue for a lot of users.
Having covered almost all the threads here regarding PPC WiFi issues, I still am perplexed as to how the whole thing is successfully set up.
I concluded that it was virtually impossible; that the PC would not provide the PPC with an IP address so I would have to use some sort of application to manage the connection. However, yesterday for some reason only the omnipotent holy deities of the grandiose gods of WiFi would know, I had it working perfectly. For about 10 minutes, until I decided to disconnect to see if I could readily re-connect. My hopes were of course, dashed, and I have not had it working again since.
I have tried every combination of settings on both the laptop and the XDA to no avail, and have followed more threads and links than I can count on my fingers and toes. I've tried all the same settings I had when it was working (briefly) but still have no real success.
So basically, what's the deal with getting this damn thing working? Maybe what I need is a step by step idiot's guide on how to initially set up the wireless network on the laptop first, to make sure it has all the right settings? I'm using a Vaio running XP home (built in WiFi).
Has anyone completely resolved this problem yet? I would really like a solid, clean method of setting up the connection rather than stumbling through a million different combinations of settings and ending up with something hashed and unstable.
Many thanks for any help on this, I'm sure it's a tiresome subject for many.
......And as is always the case, as soon as you post about it you figure it out!
If anyone is still having trouble using their XDA2 to connect to a PC's ADSL via WiFi, ive got it figured!
RE: ive got it figured!
PLEASE HOW? I HAVE ALSO THE SAME PROBLEM HERE
THANKS
Me too. I have a XDA mini S.
I don't know what settings to put into the thing. I had it connected for a short while but when I went into internet explorer it started connecting to GPRS instead of WIFI to internet.
Clearly I haven't got a clue. The book is of no help either.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Think i'm connected to the internet. It doesm't seem to want a password although one is listed listed in the router. Just can't stop it going over GPRS instead of the wifi for intenet????
problem solved

"My network card connects to work
Then select the network card ie sandisk
tick Use specific ip address
type in 1 thats on your network ,It will connect but you wont be able to browse still
Then soft reboot
change from use ip adress to "server assigned ip address"
soft reboot
and bingo
Ok, I just moved from San Diego back to Mobile, AL and just before I left, my gprs web stopped working. I could still go to tzones but no internet or modem use.
Now, as soon as I moved to AL it all worked again (yay) but....
just yesterday it all came crashing down again; same problem
I can "connect" to the gprs/edge and it will access tzones but when i try to load a PIE page or go to google maps, weatherbar, etc, it will not connect. IE will give the error
"page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the conection and then try again."
the wireless modem part also no longer works. pc says "connected" but I get no data rx
did tmo fry our free internet finally? if so, how did it follow me? lol
PLEASE HELP ME ON THIS ONE
just let me know if all my efforts will be and are fruitless
ive already hard reset my phone of course to no avail.... anyone?

Mine used to play up on O2 this way - same message as you are getting, until I discovered a better port number. I also have found that maybe every 5 months something goes wrong and it will say "connecting" forever. This can only be sorted by deleting the network card and re-entering the settings. You would think, since they are identical to the last set I put in, that it still would not work - not so, just putting them all back in sorts it.
Another problem I faced initially was that the internet published settings for O2 were not correct on 90% of sites. I had to contact a fellow O2 user to get him to go through his settings which were different from the published ones.
Of course this may have absolutely nothing to do with your problem.
Mike
I have just got an XDA IIi on which I wish to use the WiFi connection to connect to the internet.
All works fine EXCEPT when the page that I want to visit begins with "wap."
In that case the $£%$£"%$% thing refuses to download the page unless I connect via GPRS.
How can I make it connect to all pages over the WiFi connection?
TIA
Regards
Paul
I've got an idea, however it's untested...
Go to Settings - Connections - Connections and pursue any "WAP networks". Wherever it says "Connect to my WAP network" choose "Internet" instead.
[off]I didn't really think the Evil Operators still try to bite off your account with WAP...[/off]
Hi Koterpillar,
thanks fo rthe suggestion but unfortunately it didn't work.
I have managed to fix it though. I went to the Exceprions box and put * in as an exception, so now everything goes through the wifi internet link fine.
But now I have a new problem which I don't think will be as easy to fix.
I will start a new thread on that one.
Thanks for taking an interest.
My brother gave me his 8525 after his girlfriend bought him a new phone. I then unlocked it using the unlocker that i found here so that I could use it on tmobile. I am on a prepaid plan and there is no way to get internet through tmobile with prepaid, but the WIFI should still work, but it doesnt. I can get it to connect to a network but when i open IE it wont go to any web adress i type in. Any ideas????
try changing your wifi power mode to best performance

Tried that, and it didnt make any difference.
When I try to go to a site it says " Cannot Connect: Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap settings"
I have tried messing around with the settings, but i still cant get it to work right.
I think IE is still trying to connect to the internet via AT&T's network service instead of going through wifi.
Under start>settings>system do you have a proxy folder? maybe it's under programs as well. Look for it. If you do, run disable proxy.
Also go to start>settings>connections>network cards>network adapters
make sure this is reads under "my network card connects to: the internet"
select your 802.11b/g and make it "use server assigned ip address"
Hopefully that helps
hey man thanks for the tips, but it still is not working.
I found my proxy folder and ran disable proxy, my card is set to connect to the internet and it uses the server assigned IP adress.
But now when i try to use the internet it does not give me the "can not connect due to your settings" message, it just keeps trying to load the page but nothing happens.
go to start>settings>connections
click on connections
go to the advanced tab and click on select networks
on the first dropdown make it "my isp"
with the second select "my work network"
That should do it
i think that worked. Im not near a strong wifi signal right now but i think its doing the right thing. Ill know for sure tomorrow.
Thanks Pedro 2K
I was having the same issue on my 8525 after going to 6. Seems fine now. I'll try from work on Monday.

well as it turns out that did not work. I still think it has somtething to do with it trying to connect to AT&t's network.
any other ideas?
i posted in another thread about a similar issue that i have and it is still not solved
some programs that use data on my device will not connect using 3g (pocket outlook using gmail), but they will connect when the wifi is on
it's kind of the opposite of what's going on with yours, but i believe the root of the problem is the same, because we are getting the exact same error message
i believe the problem stems from how/why windows mobile 6 organizes connections; which makes no sense to me whatsoever
under connections i have:
"My ISP"
"MEdia Net"
"Work"
Of course there is nothing even under my isp, or work, yet it wont let me delete them
i tried deleting them manually from the registry and that messed a whole lot of things up, so plz do not make that mistake
my media net settings ARE correct, but why are there so many different connections here, that arent even being used, yet i cant remove them?
what the hell is "MY Isp" ? I thought Media net was my isp...lol
this is confusing and frustrating
any more ideas????
Try disabling and data connections using this:
http://www.modaco.com/content/Pocket-PC-Software/246171/New-FREE-Utility/
This should make sure it is trying to go through wireless. Just a quick question, you are not connected to activsync while trying wifi are you?
ok, since you're using t-mobile, and only just want to use wifi, do this
go to start>settings>connections->connections->advanced
switch both to "my isp", click on edit (either one is fine), delete the modem number in there.
The last thing you need to do is disable the hidden proxy proxy. I dont know exactly how, cause i dont use the AT&T rom anymore, but its somewhere in the start menu, just poke around, there should be a "disable proxy' somewhere
@ surgex0
if you think that's confusing......on the tilt, they've added a 4th one.......AT&T ISP. But basically, whatever settings that was in My ISP, is now in AT&T ISP.
