SPB Mobile Shell 2.1 + i780 + RealVGA

hi there
i cannot start spb mobile shell ...
the older version 2.0 works in 240x240 see this thread

For those who wants to run RealVGA with Spb Mobile Shell on their I780, attached please find the modified files.
Please note that the files are only meant for Spb Mobile Shell + RealVGA, and the screen will be messed up if you don't.
This is the 9 icon launcher menu (no 12 pinning icons). For the 9th icon, please do a search as to how to amend your registry in this forum.
Though this is my first attempt at changing the xml files, it has been tested on my I780 and it will work with RealVGA.
Enjoy, and please feedback if you have any problems.

How are we supposed to use these files? I tried to put them to my SPB shell install directory but still nothing happens when I tap SPB shell icon. Do I need to do some regedit or something?

have you tried themes? or will themes mess this up? im so happy im finally going to have a battery meter that i can actually use.
off topic but anyone has a working battery meter for the i780? one that displays actual percent of battery? thanks

1. Install RealVGA (with both 128dpi and 96 dpi).
2. Select RealVGA at 128dpi.
3. Install SPB MS 2.1.
4. Run SPB MS 2.1.
5. SPB MS 2.1 should run fine as it supports 320x320 at 128dpi.
6. Unzip the attached files to replace those stock dat files.
7. Go back to RealVGA.
8. Select 96dpi.
9. Automatically it will soft reset your I780.
10. Run SPB MS 2.1
11. SPB MS 2.1 will run under 320x320 at 96dpi mode.
Hope this helps.
To get the 9th icon, unzip and store the reg in your document folder. Click on the reg and you will be prompted whether to add the file to the registry. Click yes and the option for the 9th icon is generated.
Go to the Spb MS 2.1 option. You will be able to select the Games as an option to your SpbMenu.

Themes? Themes only select the colour that you want. However, I still have problems using the SPB MS2.1 them settings. I can only use the stock settings to change the theme.
Note that in order to run properly, you need to install both sets of dpi (96dpi and 128dpi) for the RealVGA. To get the SPB MS 2.1 running, you need to set it at 128dpi first, otherwise MS 2.1 will not run at all.
As to your working battery meter, you can try Resco.
Please do report if you are successful. With this in place, my next project will be to change the format. There are a lot of useful information in the Skins and Theme thread. Referencing will be from there.
Of course, this is subject to the time that I have.

I was able to properly install it and use it. It's very nice! I only installed 96 without 128. What i did was install trial version of ms coz the registered version had missing files...(no MA_.. files) trial version worked properly. Reg version showed nothing.
Here's what I did
1. install trial version of ms
2. copy all the files in the folder
3. install reg version of ms
4. paste all the copied folder files onto spb ms folder
5. Select no on all overwrite
6. Paste gOOndu's files. This time overwrite.
Reset and all is good

Yeah i couldnt read the hex either or I need more time. I need to look more into it. I've seen so many nice themes for 2.1 in this forum. They change it up real nice. I could not figure out the 9th button but I'm happy you posted it. It makes my job easier. Thanks I love your release btw im so happy to uninstall my HTC Home, gives me so much space on my today now. Thanks again.

games.reg did not work for me but ill look into it more.
Installed and clicked it a couple of times and did soft reset variations. maybe it was because we did two different installation methods although it shouldnt affect anything.

My bad. It works now. After clicking the reg, I can check the games menu on settings/customize menu. After that games folder is now accessible!

It has been a difficult journey for me, at the last count, my soft reset is more than 200 times to get this far! A lot of time is spent on trial and error on the icons arrangement, and at times I almost wanted to give up.
To those who are interested in what I did, I practically had to unzip the qa_layout.dat file and go through every xml in the dat file and modifying the coordinates and the size of the selection area.
The ma_menu_btn.dat modifications was quite easy, I just merely resize to 32x32 (per icon) instead of the standard 43x43.
The reason as to why I wanted to do it is probably the same reason as you guys out there, which is to get as much mileage on the screen as possible. Some apps running at 128dpi just couldn't make it.
I am no programmer, and it is actually the first time I am doing editing on the xml files! One thing I notice is that mistakes made in the xml programming can be found if the file is run on its own, and that actually made my life easier.
Enough said, I will try to use some of the wonderful icons and the 4 / 5 tabs which can be found in the skin and theme thread. This is going to take a while but I seek your patience as I do hold a day job.

Yeah this is a great program. I think im actually going to keep my i780 coz of this one. I just need it to email and the important things and I basically can do all that plus a few perks. I can even see my battery in % now hahaha. Imma try out the per percentage point in battery drop and send u the link once I make it work.

- to disable unlocker feature simply put an empty theme name
- do not develop theme with a lof of "convert" please use "folder:"
- scroll and DnD are very heavy features, enable if your pda is powerful
- do not forgot to pay me a coffe... it's a GPL opensource XIAProjects product!

Just simple put folder XIAMultiTheme in to ppc. and run XIAMultiThemeConfiguration for setting XIAMultiTheme.

Does anyone experienced incompatability issues with XIA MultiTheme and SPB Mobile Shell 2.1? XIA MultiTheme works great inside UltimateLauncher however as soon as I install Mobile Shell 2.1 my PPC freezes after bootup...
It may have nothing to do with XIA MultiTheme but just thought I'd try and rule out possibilities given that this application is at alpha or beta level.

I was really excited when I saw that you've started to implement a similar application that also supports tab switching. I've been playing with it for a while and my first impression is: thumbs up!
Are you also planning to implement rlToday's feature to display a monthly calendar overview? (i.e. show a grid with all the days of the month)

I really hope everything went well today.
I am really looking forward to working with XMT, I have used rlToday for awhile now and enjoy the full control abilities that the app allows. That said I believe XMT will be a killer app. You are probably too far along in design to make this change but it would be good to shorten the program names so that they are legible in the file explorers. The XIAMultitheme..... really gets too long to see which program I am tapping.
Two of my rlToday themes use variations of the calendar as seen in the default rlToday xml which at this poing won't move to XMT and I would like to use some variation of this full month calendar. Is this a part of your current plans or should I plan on coding myself?
Again I hope the exams went well. Glad those days are way behind me.

Hi, first of all I'm a noob, so bear with me, second, thanks for all your great work.
Now, I'm struggling with the XIAMultitheme, I installed as the instruction said, and tried with the Manila and the MiniColor themes, but I always got the same result: a blank screen, only the original wallpaper. I think, that's because the only selected "item" in Settings -> Today -> Personal is XIAMultiTheme....so...where is it?
....what am I doing wrong?!?

One question though: Playing around, I messed with the directories and while I'm trying to uninstall XIAMultiTheme, I get the "Could not execute ...XMT_OnPowerOn.exe" Notification Error Popup. How do I remove it? I have already tried the XIAMultiThemeKiller.exe and XIAMultiThemeUninstall.exe but the popup insists to come up when I turn on the screen.
Any hints?

Hi, thank you to try XMT!
running XIAMultiThemeUninstall.exe will remove the power on notification, if this does not append manually remove using TaskMgr

Creating Animated PNG
You can convert MNG, GIF or WPA animated images to XMT supported multiframe vertical film PNG with ImageMagick:
convert -append -dispose 2 1.wpa prova.png

Hi,
I was missing some small clocks that do not block the TF3D background too much.
To solve my "problem" I just created two versions in black and white. One with a semi transparent clock background and one without a clock background.
The actual numbers are a little far away from eachother but experimenting getting them closer gave some nasty image conflicts. If anyone has an solution let me know and I update the clock.
If you are looking for any other color let me know and I get it done for you.

Like mentioned in the readme you should use the diamnond config tool from susilange to restore to original files from you rom. If you do a quick search on the forum you should be able to find the tool to restore your TF3D. Before you restore can you post a screenshot for me to see what happened as it works good on my end. I would like to fix it for eveyone.

Find the files that are in the zip in your \Windows folder on your device.
Delete them and soft-reset. They will restore from the ROM.

Thanx for the follow-up. this is indeed the best thing to do when the diamond config does not do the trick. Weird however seeing that the config tool deletes all the manilla files and restarts so it will be reinstalled from the ROM and should solve the problem.

I'll take an other look at the issue somewhere today. Which clock did you use the clock with the glassclock background or the one without background? Let me know so I can take a better look at it. There are some files in the glassclock BG that could cause this but I need to know for sure you are using this

i like the idea of a smaller clock, but with the border around the clock still being the same size it eliminates any reason i had to download it i dont suppose you could reduce the size of the border around so the calender etc are pushed up more into the center of the screen?

Works fine with original manilla theme

these look really good, but they are too spaced out, is there anyway to get the clock that size but with less space between the numbers?
another idea i have is, if you used the ones with no background and removed the numbers too!!
NOONE has made an invisible clock yet and it would be the best way to get a full wallpaper

Did you setup the resco explorer to overwrite all files? You can do this under Menu\Options\General than under the tab Files check all boxes and select Copy.
Let me know if that did the trick.

thats how it was set up but it didnt want to work..anyway, i used total commander and it worked..

I'm a mod freak and there are somethings i would like to change in this prog.
like the programs "tab" only has 3 rows. i want to make this 4. anyone with a bit of experience possibly from the 2.xx series know where to do it?
the configs are simple ZIP files. Just open the DAT file as a ZIP file or rename it to ZIP.
in order to edit the file you need to put in the password which is:
b0fm18zq
Maybe we could custom tailor it and post the modded DAT files collected here. Most of the 2.xx series of mods/skins are portable with a little or no modification except renaming of some picture files (same password in 2.xx). the possibilities are endless

Is possible to customise the theme colors that available in mobile shell 3? The existing preferences are to dark(I want a white color scheme). Can we do it by editing a dat file(which?) or a registry hack?

Hi Dancer_69,
I don't know yet. I just played around with it last night before bed. I'm just a NB in this who poked around with this great ap after not being pleased with everything and curious on what could be achived so i dont have alla the answers this is a team effort. hopfully someone with the experience or knowhow checks this. In the meantime we have to do it by trial and error. and map it all as we go along

I have discovered that Topaz enhanced menus works great with SPB MS 3.0 activated (and Manila installed but not activated in the today screen) so so far its a necessary evil to have Manila installed until we know possible witch file or reg settings are needed.

this could be good for some. Found this over at modaco.com forum posted by turborepu quote:

supposedly its tested on 10 pages. the result is that when paned the wallpaper moves less then with three. If wallpaper size changed it will "smartfit" it to be the "correct" size.
haven't tried this myself yet three is plenty for me ATM

Hi masrterk,
I personally don't agree. i like to taylor make my GUI and of course the tastes differ. For instants.. i would like to have it pretty barebone and point to the prefered app of choice like resco contactmannager or glarm witch are the best! IMHO annyway
BUT if one could integreate them somehow that would be great if you had that choice.
right now its really easy just to link to those apps from the lifestyle screen.

Remove calendar from professional layout?
Hi guys
i am trying to figure out how to do something that we were able to do in 2.1, but has been left unoptional in 3.0. I would like to get rid of the calendar on the pro screen. All I want to see is my upcoming appointments (if I have any). I don't want the screen cluttered with a pesky grid-style calendar. I am such a nooB at this it is silly, but here I am, messing around with .dat files......
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It would be nice to create a backup/restore tool for the settings/today items/widgets/etc...
When updating the rom this would be VERY useful!

Great idea. I just took a peek inside today, thanks for the breakdown of what some of the .dats do.
I have a feeling we'll start seeing some custom widgets in no time.

There is already one in the SPB Shell settings, click the right softkey in settings and there it is, to the left of the exit button.
I tried it myself today, completely uninstalled mobile shell before I installed the official version, loaded the backup and everything was restored in the new version, included widgets and all

I don't see the grid calendar on my pro screen anymore. On the pro settings page, choose "calendar", then change # of appointments to "as many as possible". After doing this, mine now shows the next two appointments.

Noobie to HTC Diamond and I have questions

hi all
Im new to here but also just purchased a HTC Diamond Touch. I previously had a P3600i.
Im really liking the new TF3D program however there are a couple of things that are driving me mental. EG - calender not showing upcoming events...
Now im not to good at the understanding of tweaking programs etc however is there a way I can have this?
Also I have SPB Mobile Shell and I used this for a while. I love this program however find that the battery life is drained within a day of using this (something TF3D doesnt do). I tried to add a new skin last night but it didnt work and now im wondering whether im doing something wrong.
Is someone able to give me step by step instructions on either how i can tweak TF3D to give me upcoming calender dates or how I can add different skins....

for themes.... some come in cab files and you should copy these to your internal storage and open it via file explorer
for .theme files.....
download TF3D configurator, download themes and put the .theme file into a folder somewhere on your internal storage..
when you open TF3D configurator, go to the second tab, and there's a drop down menu on the top right to select the folder where you're themes are, once you've selected a theme it'll give you the option to install it.... hey presto .... a new theme!

Is it an HTC Touch Diamond? If so, then it should have enough space.

yeh its definately a diamond...hmmmm may have to try again. I found it wouldnt remove either so had to do a hard reset...
