Stream via WiFi to PPC? - Networking

I managed to setup a wireless network through WiFi to my TyTN. I am able to grab files from my pc and transfer to my PPC. However, if I go to view a video clip from the network drive, it won't work. So I'd have to transfer over to my device and then view.
Is there a way to stream it from my network drive so I don't have to transfer over everytime?
Please and thanks.

I've managed to get ORB up and going. Pretty cool program actually.

Can I listen to My music through WiFi

Oh wise ones can you help
I have conected my M1000 to my Wifi network and can surf the net ( connect to internet in network card settings)
and i can Active Sync using Wifi as well ( connect to work in network card settings)
But is there anyway i can listen to my tunes in my shared music folder through wifi like i do with my laptop?
just a thought headphones in while washing the car etc
Thanks In advance
yes.. well maybe.
what you will need is a media player for pocket pc supporting streaming.
basically what you can do is set up a media streaming server
(look at a piece of software called vlc...its a media player for pc's)
then you just need to stream your songs from the pc to the client media player on the pda and you could use the webfrontend from your pda to set up the playlist.
if theres a ppc media player supporting streaming (i've never looked) its actually quite simple and quite nice.

could tell mE how to;
"surf the net ( connect to internet in network card settings)
and i can Active Sync using Wifi as well ( connect to work in network card settings)"
using my sdio wifi connection PLEEEEEEASE
heh as i stated above go look at VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
this will be the server that you stick on your pc..theres a great howto on vlc over at engadget http://engadget.com/2005/11/29/how-to-stream-almost-anything-using-vlc/.
then you need a media player on your ppc to stream to. now i happened to notice theres an experimental vlc for ppc which would do nicely..but you can do a google and find a ppc media player...as long as it supports streams your good to go.
i've not actually tried this myself but i know it'll work.
enjoy!
if I plug my xda into the cradle, I can surf the Internet etc. But even though I have installed the drivers, and the utility for my SDIO CARD, and the utility tells me I am connected to my router, I cannot surf the Internet when disconnected from the cradle.
When I go start menu/settings/connections/advanced/network and I can see and configure my connection.
my network connection name is correct.
when I go into "connects to: (i chose) the Internet"(the other option was "work").
In in " select networks" by port;
programs automatically connect to the Internet should connect using "my work network".
Programs automatically connect to a private network should connect using "my work network".
oh so your issue is you can't get the internet on your phone via wireless.... would have been better if you had made that clear and also created a new topic to ask the question
first thing to do i think would be select the work network... rather than the internet...next is to check its being assigned the routers ip for a gateway
then should work
thanks.
Because my system is new, I actually did a hard restart, then reinstalled the drivers and the utility for the SDIO. As soon as I plugged in the card my router network was named, I selected it and chose work instead of Internet as you suggested. This would not work on the Internet. the xda told me I need to set up the proxy server, which I didn't know how to do,So then I went back into the settings and connections advanced as I said above, and changed it from work to the Internet. I can now connect to the Internet when I'm not connected to my cradle.I haven't done anything in the "tasks" section of my connections, I've only worked in the "advanced" section.
I raised the router firewall and it still worked. I now want to try putting in the WEP encryption, can you tell me where I do that?
now to do an ActiveSync as the guy described above I will have to go through the router IP address, to my desktop computer which is connected through a LAN connection. I just turned on the printer and filesharing in my network setup. And at the Norton Internet Security has recognised the change, and made adjustments. How do I now go about setting up a ActiveSync?
Thanks for all this help, I appreciate it.
right wep im afraid i've forgotten my sdio wireless cards bust.. activesync is a nice easy one tho
under the advanced settings of the card there will be a place where you can put in a WINS server ip in there put the ip address of the pc you want to sync with. then run activesync from your xda and it should work.
you may need to enable sync over network in activesync on your pc first however
I'm sorry to be a dummy mate, do you mean start/settings/connections/advanced/network card, for the advanced settings for the card?if so I cannot find the WINS setting etc.
By the way, I have found if you go through the root above, click on your connection you are connected to, you can put the network key in there.
start/settings/connections/advanced/network cards/select your wifi/name servers
I don´t know why everybody talks abaut music over wifi installing a music streaming software, I think that it´s not really necesary.
For example, at home, I´ve got 4 pcs included in my wifi network. And all of them have a hard disk drive added to the shared drives of the wlan, so I can get access to every one of them. If you just go to resco explorer, share those drives of the network, and try to open mp3 files of those drives, you will be opening mp3 files from another pc with your ppc´s media reproducer...
If there´s not a lot of traffic in the network, you will hear the mp3 files without any problems, but it there is, you will hear the music well, but with a little bit of "chskcs" (I mean that it sounds something like: ckshksd when I´m hearing the mp3 file) every 5 seconds more or less..
This is the same for divx films. But here, the trouble of "chsks" is bigger...

yeah i've never really bothered i just use pc and turn it up loud...the problem arises when you have a number of computers all playing mp3's from the same location...goodbye bandwidth, hello to skippy noise.
with a streaming server the network traffic is reduced which i suppose is a small benifit...also it means you can do it not only on the network but access it over the internet aswell...which for some ppl is probably a good reason. hell why buy an ipod if you have inet access to an 80gig mp3 collection anyway (aside from when you cant get an inet connection  )
Wop... You have turn it on my lamp, and now I´ve got the key to stop the boring study evenings at the library...
The problem is that I prefer to listen music of my 1giga sd card, to be connected to the university wlan and listening from my streaming, cause my wifi card "kills" the battery of my XDA II in... I don´t know, but maybe 3 hours of continued use, whereas listenin music of the sd card consume much less... But it´s a great thing the streaming server...
Thanks 4 all
yeah i know what you mean about the wifi killing the battery. i ended up getting the backpack for my xda2..still found battery power wasn't enough so i keep my charger with me as well
How many time could you increase with the batery pack?
I have seen it in expansys.com (or a net shop lite that) and it costs abaut 115 euros. The pack comes with a TV adapter, to watch your xda II screen on the tv, and the battery.
73´s
i think the backpack battery is about half that of the internal so if your internal lasts say 3 hours on its own with the backpack it lasts 4 1/2 - 5 ish i think was my rough increase..cannot really remember as my wlan card is bust and i havent used the backpack since

Potential very noob-like question!

I've just started using my MDA Vario II at work. My problem(s) are as follows:
1) I wanted to use a remote program to access all the functions/screen of my vario from the PC - does anyone know any decent, cheap (or preferably free!) remote programs?
2) I wanted to connect it to the PC and still use my unlimited Web & Walk from T Mobile, rather than the work internet connection - but every time I connect it asks me to input details of my work proxy server. Is there any way I can stop it from doing this? Even if I don't input the details, it still doesn't connect via GPRS.
Any help would be much appreciated! I apologise if I'm asking stupid questions - I'm just fresh from the lands of SE P910i's
1) I haven't seen anything free that was realy worth it. I went ahead and bought the best one I've seen and that's SOTI PocketController. It's $35 but since I write apps for the PocketPC it was worth it. With SOTI you can take screen captures, record video of your screen, download the latest skins so it looks like your phone, get access to a command promt, task viewer and stuff like that. Your suppose to be able to connect to it over the internet as well, but I haven't got this part to work yet.
2) You can use a Bluetooth DUN (DialUpNetwork) connection from your laptop to your phone so that your laptop will use your phone as a modem if there is now WiFi connection around. I use this and it is very handy. T-Mobile's web site has the information you need for this, if you can't find it let me know and I will send you the PDF I have for it.

pof - amazing! that was exactly what I was after - thank you so so much!
as for the internet connection - I might not have explained myself properly. Basically I wanted to have my vario connected to my pc by usb, but then use the web & walk from my phone rather than the work internet connection. At the moment, whenever I connect to my work pc, and try to go onto the internet, it asks me to enter the proxy settings for my work network. I basically wanted to disable this and just use my web and walk connection. is this possible?
Thanks for your replies Codesmoke and Pof. I hope i'll be able to return te favour one day when I get to grips with this device!
Yeaaa i've also been trying to do the internet connection thing through your PC, basically leave the phone charging with USB, but active the bluetooth connection and use your phone as a modem, i never got any further than that, mainly cause the non-microsoft bluetooth stack on my computer was giving me trouble dialing up.
Put "*99#" with no speechmarks as the dial up phone number, this will dial into web and walk. Leave the username/password blank.
You could always plug your device into your laptop / computer and then Ctrl-Alt-Del and kill the process "wcescomm.exe" which will then just leave the phone charging ?

transfering files from wizard...no usb

is there a program a any way to send files from wizard to the computer? and how?
You are a little limited without USB. You could use BT if available. Maybe set up a wifi connection, is that called AD Hoc? I don't know much about that though.Hopefully someone more knowledgable can help there.
Depending on teh size you could email them too.
Dont forget about the Infrared the Wizard provides But whether you do it by BT or IR, you will need to send the files either from file explorer or set up an ActiveSync connection
yeap theres bluetooth and infrared
cant you just buy a new one
cant even imagine how slow itll be.,...
I active sync via BT all the time, but i normally place files in a shared folder on my PC, then grab them via wifi.
Wifi is not hard to set up at all. Look for a tutorial via Google to set up shared folders.

There are two pretty easy options that have worked well for me in the past. You can use Total Commander or the old HTC Network Plugin.
In Total Commander, there is a //plugins directory and a "LAN" option in there. See if that is what you're looking for. You can download that here.
The HTC Network Plugin is a bit old, but it should still work (haven't tried it recently). I've attached that below. Good luck!

Added#2: Ok now that I am able to get files from PC to phone, how can I enable phone>PC file transfer?
Very cool, thanks for tip! Works perfectly for me...

HD2 Wireless stops working

Hi,
I am using wifi connected to home router to stream media from a shared network drive to my HD2. The media is played (mostly video) using divx mobile or Core player.
After about 30minutes the media stops playing and the wireless stops working / responding. Only a hard reset will fix the problem, but will happen again if media is streamed over wireless.
Has anyone else had similar problems?
Hi,
please, how you access your network files from HD2? : ) I want to play for example music from Win7 server (\\server\Music for example, password-protected). Thank you!
Check your connection.Go in Settings > Wireless controls. When the wireless router starts and is ready to accept connections, the wireless network name and WEP key are displayed. This is possible solution of your problem.

Hi I am using Resco Explorer 2010. It is possible to connect to shared drives by creating a network mount, by clicking on the files from the share it will automatically launch the most appropriate application e.g. Windows Media for music, Coreplayer for Mpg video files.
Username and Password can be specified when creating the connection.

Hi, Thanks for your reply.
I have a successful connection between the HD2 and the Wireless Router at the start. Only after a approximately 30-40 minutes of watching a movie on the HD2 will the wireless connection break and then I am unable to re-connect to ANY wireless devices until a hard reset.
Reproducible everytime !!
Hi,
Here is a quick guide of how I reproduce the issue to stop the wireless network working.
1. Load Resco Explorer 2010
2. Connect to the network drive
3. Click on a reasonably normal sized divx movie 700MB in size.
4. Copy the file from the Network Drive to HD2 (Storage Card)
5. Observe that after approximately 30MB of data had transferred the copying process stops.
6. Wireless Network has stopped working. Error message will appear in Resco Explorer 2010.
7. Perform a hard reset on the HD2, wireless can be connected again.
8. Re-test steps 3 - 5 and confirm that each time the file tries to copy it fails.
Please let me know of your findings. Good luck
Hello! I have the same problem! Anyone solve it? Please, give us few words about solution...
