Howdy guys
I have just purchased a Orange SPV M600 Smartphone.
I hope this is right section for these kinda questions ?
Anyway I had a XDA IIs before and wanted to ask a few easy Q's please
Q1. Is msn messenger available for this with it being on 5.0 operating system?
Q2. How does it compare to the XDA IIs ?
Q3. Can I add apps like I could with my old XDA ? is it basically the same ?
Many thanks guys in advance.
Matt
Congrats on your new phone.
1. The messenger is built in just like in the old system.
2. Not really sure on this one since I never had one of those, but if you are switching from a WM 2003 to WM 5 device it will appear sluggish (because it is) until you get used to it.
3. Anything you could do with your old device you can do with this one and possibly more. One good thing about WM 5 is that no matter how long you leave it without battery charge the only thing you will loose is your date and time settings. Once you recharge it, it comes back just as it was.
Also there is some improvement in built in apps (word, excel) and push mail (if you have an exchange account somewhere).
Basically, although orange call it a "smartphone" it is a PPC by definition (touch screen and all) and is just like you old device but with newer OS and storage memory that does not require battery power.
Cheers for that mate
Thats good news am happy now
Only problem I have is I forgot where i used to get all me cool appz lol any ideas ?
Cheers
this might not be what you are after but for free apps check

Hey Guys,
I know it is probarly been posted before and if it has I do apologise but I want to know how can I get the most out of my iMate Jam. I am going to buy one with in the week but after finding a site like this it shows me just how customizible the iMate Jam is (wizard). You guys have shown me the full potential of this device which is pretty amazijng in it's self. So the main reson why I am writtting the messege is to find out what the most usefult features you have found from the device even if it's through customization what is the most useful features you have found and used I am particularly intersted in blackberry mainly becuase of its extremly fast bi-directionaly synching which has amazed me and espiaclly to find out there is a possibility to get it on a phone like this. Currentlt the CEO of our company has a blackberry phone this has an extremly [email protected]$e% up key pad and is extremly hard to use and after reading about exchange SP2 looks like it can turn our phones can turn into a push technoloy (just like the blackberry) and to get my boss away from black berry into a customiziable phone like the iMate would be fantastic instead of puying for ****loads of blackbery software and services. So what do you guys think? I like the blackberry becuase it can push a changes to a task, to a contact, to a schedule extremly fast in both directions but I love the imate becuase of it is ease to use and its customization and I was just hoping there was a way to convert my boss over to a phone like the magician. Should I wait for the SP1 for exchange for that push technology or try out a blackberry app for the Jam if it exist? and what woudl be some of the best feautres you have gotten out of this phone?
Firs tip: Paragraphs are good!
Yeah, I'll be the first to admit, I'm not going to even bother reading that post in that format.
Hi
I played with a friend's Wizard the other day (XDA Mini S actually) and liked the O2 Active software on the today screen.
I know lots of people have been trying to remove it but I'd like it to replace WA2 and WAD with something that I can use single-handed instead. I liked how you can use the shortcut bar on the left with the navigation buttons.
Is there any way to get O2 Active onto my JAM (Magician)? I know Wizard is WM5 but surely it's just an app?
Let me know,
Cheers,
Joe
Hey Bro..Dnt try The active thingie its a pain in the behind to uninstall and takes a lota space
If ya still want it let me know..
Really? Hmm...
Just wanted to try it out before I hard-reset so feel like I have nothing to lose! Kinda feel like it may manage to replace a few other things I have running which take up space anyway.
If someone could post it that would be awesome.
Have fun bro ..dnt say i didnt warn u.
ciao
Ok, point taken, it's ****e!
My mate had tabs on the today screen part of Active though, things like System and Apps, seemed much more useful. Does anyone know if that stuff is available?
Try this its the O2plus for the Atom cracked for the Magician
the o2 active looks good, not to usefull tho, n when i installed it, i found a few bugs. because i am on PAYG in the UK, i wanted to select PAYG in the UK, problem was that it wouldnt let me. it installed all the internet settings for contract, because of that, the internet stopped working. i also found that it does not let you add extra today bars, and it has its own one, this one doesnt show half the time. when i make a call, it constantly vibrates, that got really anoying, lol. otherwise i thik it is a good app, lol.
??? ill change what i sead earlier, doesnt work on my MDA compact with SPB pocket plus, but does work with a hard reset. does any one know a reason for this? an how to fix it?
HELP !!!Anyone Know how to
load o2 active on to the o2 xda exec and where to get the software or settings to do it as i cant seem to find it anywhere .
I keep seeing the fancy looking home screen plug in for WM 6. Is there a similar home screen plug in from HTC for WM 5 that I can use with my 8525? If so how can I get it? Is it free? How do I install it? And I do not know how to do what you guys refer to as reg hacks - so should I just stay away from the topic? I did do some searching and everything comes up under WM 6, or it is not clear if it is WM 5 or 6. Also, I do not want to do anything that will void my warranty - will it? I appreciate any responses. Sorry for being the worlds biggest newbie.
I can't tell you too much about the HTC Home Screen because of I am not using it!
However, 'hacking' the registry will not avoid your warranty! In case you do something wrong: simply hard reset your device and everything should be back to normal and factory default!
If you want to be able to access your PDA's registry you will need a REGISTRY EDITOR installed on your PDA. There are plenty good ones out there! I personally use RESCO EXPLORER 2007 + REGISTRY ADD-IN. You can find a trial version here: http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/default.asp
To get your HOME SCREEN fancy looking: even here you can find lots of stuff without having to hack anything! One really good application which changes not only your TODAY SCREEN is SPB MOBILE SHELL - more info here: http://spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/?en
Both application I mentioned above are commercial products but trial versions are available as free download! There are hundreds of free application all over the web which will help you to personalize your PDA - just search Google and see what it comes up with!
Hope that helps?
Thanks. A couple quick questions. I can not tell if it is free or not. It has me agree to a bunch of legal stuff, but I do not see any mention of it being free/trial or what a charge would be? Do I do the CAB file?

Its free, dont know if it will work on wm5 havent seen a version working yet on wm5. I suggest just reading the forum for the next two weeks or so. After about a good 20 you will nolonger be a noob. At that time I would suggest upgrading to wm6 and you will have no issues getting this on your phone.
Thanks again for the help on this. If there is not a high degree of knowing that will work on WM 5 does anyone of on that will work?

You can do the cab or the exe - what ever you prefer!
The cab file needs to be copied to the PPC, the setup you run directly on your desktop while your PPC is connected via ActiveSync or MDC.
Both programs I mentioned are running fine under Windows Mobile 5. I used them for more than a year on my T-Mobile MDA WM5 and later on my Hermes.
Hello I have just recently began looking into the idea of a UMPC. I look at the stats on these and they seem decent at least some of them with 1 gig of ram and what not. Can these devices function as a laptop/desktop/pda replacement or have they not made it that far yet?
Device is intresting but it is no voice capable and no built GPS

if you want an UMPC and you want voice, then you may like the HTC X9500 (AKA "Shangri-la")

It has now been confirmed that the shift can make voice calls.
See the thread in the Athena forum for a link to a new video showing the phone pad on the shift.
ive seen a UMPC with the built in GPS and the voice functionality. Im just asking if this can run all the programs that a pc can. Like will i be able to active snyc a PPC. I have stumbled upon an interesting site that has quite a bit of affordable UMPCs...
http://www.dynamism.com/htc-shift/pricing.shtml
Shift is a bit pricey on this site.
Hell no!
It's a glorified comms device - that's all.
If you think even a little bit that it can replace even a fraction of your PC usage, you're gonna be very dissapointed and waste a ton of cash.
Office apps are extremely limited, and non-PPC software is simply a no-no.
This was much covered in the days of the Universal, and things have not improved much I'm afraid.
Forget it! Can't be clearer.
"Office apps are extremely limited, and non-PPC software is simply a no-no."
if it's running vista non ppc software should be no prob
of cause aero would not work nor any apps which required any kind of directx stuff

do you really think it will make WM6 and phone working ? I'm so sad to see that there is no ability to receive and give calls... and no ability to have WM applications .. it's so sad that the "fake WM6" is just like a wallpaper and a mail reader and nothing more

just check out the athena upgrading forums and read the thread on shift making phone calls
Even if it does not make phone calls out of the box, It will probably be hackable after a few weeks.
If HTC decided to put SnapVue because of marketing reason, there should be a full rom floating somewhere. It's impossible they didn't try one at first stage of development.
If it's for technical reason, then the problem certainly lie in the component sharing between the PPC part and vista. These component are:
Wifi: Must be shared and will probably be a problem to activate on both side. We must find a way to alternate it's switch.
Bluetooth: Same as wifi, but may support dual access as bluetooth can set up multiple connections
GPS: If it's desactivated, there will be the same work as for the artemys hopefully
SnapVue is a WM6 system trying to limit itself. It's not a real operating system build from ground. I'm sure it is crying to go back to normal WM6 state once we add the necessary system files.

wow u guys are living under rocks or something? the athena's snapvue is like the htc home plugin. go into the athena mobile 6 forum. i have it included as a addon for the athena. the athena will have a phone AND gps. yes me and oli have access to the rom. has been mentioned before. no you can't have it. it can go back to normal wm6. disable the plugin in settings and change the tsk. you can also get the menu back and stuff. this can be done by i guess running the cab for athena. the original cab we made during development had the startmenu and all gone. it was built into the dlls to hide softkeys and start menu. if u run the cab i believe all will be back. if u guys want a rom for shift. u know where to find me.

well..... I'm not 100% convinced by everything .. the Shift I have used does not show anything in the SnapVue ... no IE, no explorer, ... nothing to be able to download a cab or to install a cab... maybe synchronizing ? but I think that it can't be synchronized ...... so how? .. I have seen 2 shifts and both were not able of reading SMS and receiving or giving a call.
I will keep tune in this thread since the phone is out this month .. and will see how it works for others... I hope we will be able to put a phone on it and GPS and anything else.... but I think even without that the HTC SHIFT issss the best choice for a small notebook and it is clearly THE BEST CHOICE for an umpc.

IT HAS IT!! like i said if u run the cab it should open the windows up to have a start menu and all that. internet explorer and all that are in the phone. maybe they want u though to only have in wm6 what isnt in vista. if u think about it vista has ie and all that.

i'm not talking about ADDING a phone or a gps ... but about downloading "THE" cab you are talking about... and installing this cab.. I have used the Shift a little .. and it seems that there is no way to access the SnapVue ... just use the snapvue.. but impossible to see something behind it ... no explorer, no I.E. ... and I think that it can't be synchronized with a computer.
surely it would be possible to hard reset the snapview side and before customizations take place and install sbnap view soft reset then use total commander to get any other cabs from the extended rom that we need ??? (but ive not seen even a sample unit in the flesh i assume this is do_able?)

Sorry to bust your bubble but SnapVue is a part of the ROM... but so long as the device will happily sync away with Activesync, we should be in business.

Is it possible to have blackberry messenger with a PIN for the HTC touch pro 2 ? I've been looking for a while but nothing
I am also looking for BBM on HTC, is it possible?
oohh Come on!
It´s IMPOSSIBLE because it is a Hardware based messenger, so you will never find it
But thats ok, black berries are crap anyway

I had been looking for working BB app suite (with working BBM) since ages... but I gave up. I now carry a BB Bold and a TP2...
The BB I use only for push email and BBM. All other things that I need to do, I do on my TP2. As a pda-phone, I find the winMo device is light years ahead. But for social networking, nothing beats BBM.
So, I guess I'll have to wait until RIM releases an OS that allows users to tweak and hack like WinMo, or until somehow BBM manages to run on WinMo phones... not holding by breath though.
A search or even a scan of the threads on the first page of this forum would have led you to this instead of resurrecting a more than year old dead thread:
