i have o2 atom and work well. suddenly when i want to take a picture using flashlight, it won't work. i already try to upgrade the rom. when it done, it still won't work... please help for this case.
(the flashlight sometimes work, sometimes not)

OK sorry if this is really dumb or not the right place to post!
The main camera on my XDA Exec displays a blank page, all of the icons are present on screen and all seems to be set right but I get no image from the camera.
Web/Video cam works fine when I switch to that.
I am sure it did work when I first played with it.
The camera function also seems veeeerrryyy slow. Pressing any of the icons or keys does not get response for many seconds in some cases.
I tried a hardware reset and even a ROM upgrade, all to no avail.
Any suggestions or advice would be very welcome.

I tried 3 diferent rom update, and nothing appear, like your.

Mine turned out to be a hardware problem.
My provider O2 replaced the unit no problem.

My camera refuses to work
Error message is "Unable to start camera, Unable to initialise camera"
I have tried soft reset (several times), Hard reset (several times) both with and without SD card installed.
When this first occured I could resolve it by removing and reinserting the SD card but now even that does not work.
Currently on the phone to Orange requesting a replacement. Awaitiing reply from technical department.
PS. Also had intermittent SA problems
Anybody seen this problem, any solutions?

I get a similar problem when trying to take pics on superfine 2M settings, camera app crashes and requires restart. Already had 3 replacement tytn's + not prepared to risk getting another dodgy m3100. Hardly use my tytn's camera now

Along with the ridiculous default sharpness and contract settings these issues are a real downer.
Well when I got my TyTN back from repair, I had a couple of dodgy camera issues... Sometimes it would take a blank picture. Then I would soft reset.. start up the camera app and it would complain that it was unable to cos it was in use already. Soft reset again... a quick slap or brisk shutting of the keyboard in frustration and it would work...
Interestingly enough (touch wood) I haven't had this problem in many weeks

I now use CoolCamera instead of the default camera. It doesn't have the flash interace of the normal one but you don't have the silly default sharpness/ contrast settings and takes good pictures.

I have had this problem in the past. However, unlike you, this has been cured on mine with a soft reset. Does sound like a faulty unit though

Been using my hermes for more than a year now.
upgraded to WM6 official dopod but with big storage a month back but no problems with camera till now. Tried soft reset, get same message. Hard reset first time it worked. But after a few hours get same message. Tried hard resetting it and it won't work. Now camera button remapped to Pic and Vid.
Tried to tap on the camera icon in programs also get same message.

I have O2 xda exec, Its main camera stopped working , camera program starts after a long pause and blank screen appears showing only camera function buttons. I can start the secondary camera from that screen and it works fine. there is no other problem. help needed please.

I just started having this exact same problem when I flashed to jwright's ROM (which is really quite nice). Given the amount of time it takes for the camera to load up, I'm betting this is a permissions problem in the registry and it might be solved by the copy, rename, copy back solution that seems to work for the other things. Anybody know what registry folders have to do with the camera?
Hmmm, now that I think about it. I dropped my camera a few weeks ago and I don't know that I ever checked the camera afterwards. I'm wondering if I wrecked the camera. I just finished putting it back together and the camera looks fine physically but that means nothing really.

First I must apologize for my bad english.
But this isn't my only problem. Beside new Samsung i600 I have my very-old-but-still-good MDA Compact, also known as HTC Magician. I'm using it as GPS navigation with external Bluetooth GPS reciever and everything was fine until I've tried install new iGo 8, so called NavN'Go software. Installation ended without problems and app was working. For a while. After something about 5 sec of navigation my Magician turned off. Not restart, totally off. OK, I've tried to turn it on. Everything what I'm getting is bootloader and - sometimes - 1sec of homescreen. After that, Magician fall to sleep.
Of course I've tried reflashing ROM, without success. Same problem with same 1sec of "Welcome in Windows Mobile 2003 SE" or what is first screen after reflashing.
I'm asking for help or advice, never happend to my Magician before. So I've search in this forum but nothing equal to my problem.
And little switch under battery cover isn't solution, soldering machine more than 2 years ago has done this HTC joke for me.
Lot of thanks for any ideas, I never leave my Magician, we are in love forever but working one is better than dead one, isn't?
Hello! some days before this trouble phone ideos x5 start sometimes to work very slow. And suddenly camera did not want to start "it is not possible to connect camera". i dont remember that phone fall or something like this. Because of it i think that there is a soft problem.
I made "wipe" (vol+ and power) and reload system - but camera does not want to start.
I dont want to give it to service center. because it can take till 45 days to make repair on garantee - i need a phone and camera for work! Please help!

A wipe doesn't always do the trick. Have you tried a different camera app?
Also, you could try a different ROM.

I removed the camera, reload phone and start camera application without camera - there was the same mistake. Now i have camera inserted in socket - nothing...
Do somebody know what model camera? i can not find it through internet. may be other camera (from other phone) can be inserted?

Yes. I talked with Huawei servise center in Moscow. They want my phone for uncertain time - till 45 days!

Did you accually open up the phone and physically remove the camera from the motherboard? Would say that voids your warranty...
Anyway it sounds like a hardware problem...
I can not wait for 45 days. they should order camera. And the will give phone or many back if they do not recieve camera from Huawei.

Are you sure this isnt a ROM problem? if you have 2.3.5 you probably have installed the BETA relese from Huawei which has a lot of bugs..
I cannot really believe that you removed the actual camera part from the board..
Please try a different,custom,ROM such as CM7 or MIUI from the forum and try again..

There is a soccet for camera. It is possibale to remove camera and insirt back it without unscrewing.
It is not Rom problem - it started when in previos (factory 2.2.1) ROM.
And now i can not find in Moscow new (or used) camera for replacment.
And i have a litle hope - my be somebody tell me about some magician key to start camera.)

Repairing hardware yourself comes with the risk of breaking things you didn't intend to.

hello ! i have same problem! camera don't start with error. Started on official 2.2.2 (136 firmware), then upgrade to official 2.3.5 (beta2 -518), error is present. And flashlight not worked to.
Try a different ROM. I've seen people with the same problem and after changing ROM was working.
If you dont solve the problem must be the hardware problem, but try another ROM, it's easy to tempt
