Well I have a carPC and i have been using my Cingular 8525 as my internet connection for the carPC. I have been tethering the phone to my carPC via bluetooth. I was wondering since it is very annoying to have to go into windows and start the network access for bluetooth and then start internet sharing on the phone in order to set up the connection. Is it possible to to somehow have the PC automatically start the network access when internet sharing is activated? Or is there an easier way to even do this?
I would like this too!
(one thing i did notice is that the new 12 button comm manager that somone has made has a button for internet sharing. this would be less hassel to use that you current setup i would think?)
Mortscript can probably do everything you want...
However im not sure how/what you can use as the trigger for mortscript. do you run any specific app, or make a bluetooth car kit connection of any type when you get into the car?
i will try and write a mortscript for this sometime soon..
Well i think i have a solution comming for you...
Here is what i ahve got so far.
On the PC iniciate an Object push to the phone, this will pop up a dialoge window on the phone saying "recieving data"
If you have a mort script running a loop in the Background that waits for this window, you can then check the text of the active window to make sure the receiving data window is talking about a push from the right machine.
If it is, you cna then use mortscrit to start the right app, change the parameters of the app and activate the sharing of the app.
The object push from the pc could be triggered after 30 seconds after boot for instance.. or somthing similar. should be easy to script that on thePC!

I've just started using my MDA Vario II at work. My problem(s) are as follows:
1) I wanted to use a remote program to access all the functions/screen of my vario from the PC - does anyone know any decent, cheap (or preferably free!) remote programs?
2) I wanted to connect it to the PC and still use my unlimited Web & Walk from T Mobile, rather than the work internet connection - but every time I connect it asks me to input details of my work proxy server. Is there any way I can stop it from doing this? Even if I don't input the details, it still doesn't connect via GPRS.
Any help would be much appreciated! I apologise if I'm asking stupid questions - I'm just fresh from the lands of SE P910i's
1) I haven't seen anything free that was realy worth it. I went ahead and bought the best one I've seen and that's SOTI PocketController. It's $35 but since I write apps for the PocketPC it was worth it. With SOTI you can take screen captures, record video of your screen, download the latest skins so it looks like your phone, get access to a command promt, task viewer and stuff like that. Your suppose to be able to connect to it over the internet as well, but I haven't got this part to work yet.
2) You can use a Bluetooth DUN (DialUpNetwork) connection from your laptop to your phone so that your laptop will use your phone as a modem if there is now WiFi connection around. I use this and it is very handy. T-Mobile's web site has the information you need for this, if you can't find it let me know and I will send you the PDF I have for it.

I use "remote display control for Pocket PC", it's free (as in beer):

pof - amazing! that was exactly what I was after - thank you so so much!
as for the internet connection - I might not have explained myself properly. Basically I wanted to have my vario connected to my pc by usb, but then use the web & walk from my phone rather than the work internet connection. At the moment, whenever I connect to my work pc, and try to go onto the internet, it asks me to enter the proxy settings for my work network. I basically wanted to disable this and just use my web and walk connection. is this possible?
Thanks for your replies Codesmoke and Pof. I hope i'll be able to return te favour one day when I get to grips with this device!
Yeaaa i've also been trying to do the internet connection thing through your PC, basically leave the phone charging with USB, but active the bluetooth connection and use your phone as a modem, i never got any further than that, mainly cause the non-microsoft bluetooth stack on my computer was giving me trouble dialing up.
Put "*99#" with no speechmarks as the dial up phone number, this will dial into web and walk. Leave the username/password blank.
You could always plug your device into your laptop / computer and then Ctrl-Alt-Del and kill the process "wcescomm.exe" which will then just leave the phone charging ?
I'm using a 8525 with the latest ROM from Cingular. I was scared of the new pan profile, but it turns out to be far more reliable than stupid bluetooth DUN.
Now my only annoyance is that I have to go in and start internet sharing every time on the 8525. It would be ideal if I could just initiate the connection from my computer (macbook pro running 10.4.9) and not ever have to touch my phone.
I apologize if a solution has already been discussed, I searched around but couldn't find anything.
My only idea would be a mortscript assigned to a button that will go in and start sharing automatically. But that is only one step better than going in and running the software.
ideas?
Sounds to me like mortscript or skschema in your StartUp folder is probably the best option.
One of the problems with that is the settings get reset every time I disconnect from PAN network sharing. So I have to restart the app each time.
Similar to the concept of connecting to the internet automatically when needed, there must be some way to enable bluetooth internet sharing automatically when needed.
Hi everyone!
I've had PDA phones since a couple of years now, and I've always been searching for something.
Here is my problem:
When the phone needs an internet connection, windows mobile automaticaly tries to connect with the 3G connection.. As I don't have an unlimmited 3G connection, it's very annoying..! That's why I have to manually turn the Wifi "ON"
What I am searching for
I'd like a very intuitive and simple software that ask (with a popup for example) which connection to use (Wifi/3G) when the phone needs the internet.
Hope you understood what i'm searching for..!
While not a solution NoData might help part of your problem in the interim.

It will at least let you disable 3G/GPRS when you need to so you don't go over.
Thanks for the answer, i know this solution.. But that's not really what i'm searching for..!
Maybe You can create a fake connection for 3G so the phone doesn't get to connect? Just an idea, haven't tried. It still leaves the WiFi problem - why there isn't an option to select which connection to use if one is needed...
depending on what rom you have im sure comm manager has buttons for wife and data connection, with basic on off control for each.
However Id have thought someone could write something which would switch between data connection enable and wifi disabled (when out and about) and the other way around when you have wifi available and dont want to use up your 3g allowance.
I don't think it's that easy
that Comm part is build into WM, so the developer would need to write a new shell that acts as internet and gives you the option of selecting the connection..
I do like the idea though
hmmm,
is perhaps feasible with Mortscript?
In which one intercepts the “Internet” call and then by Popup the choice would have?
This might be a simple question. Is there a way to let HD automatically connect to Wifi instead of GPRS when any data connection is necessary?
For example,
1. in the TF3D Weather - hitting the 'Update Now' will get you connected to GPRS if Wifi is not already connected.
2. in the mail inboxes, when hitting the 'send/receive' will get you connected to GPRS if wifi is not already connected.
Won't it be great if it's smart enough to first turn on wifi, if not available, then go to GPRS?
Perhaps this is already out there but I just couldn't find it having used Hermes, TyTn and now HD.
Well personally for security (and other reasons - such as battery life) I don't want wifi connecting unless i know about it. But it could be an option I guess.
I always has tried to do this, and I was unable, I think it isn't possible. Maybe is there a software to do this... But I couldn't find it.
If you use No Data you can toggle off GPRS & WAP, then everytime you want to update weather, stock etc you just need to turn on wifi
Nodata
Well, I do have nodata.cab. The issue is more of the sequence and autoconnect. With nodata.cab, one do have to
1. gesture to navigate to the communication manager
2. turn on wifi
3. gesture/select the inbox
4. hit the menu/select the send/receive.
I was wondering if the 'send/receive' command already triggers something to goto GPRS, perhaps there is a way configure for send/receive to turn on wifi just like gprs and then retrieve the mail. And when the wifi doesn't find anything, go to gprs? Perhaps some type of program to let user set the sequence/preference of data connection?
Perhaps there is already something that can do that, I just couldn't find it.

Haven't heard of anything like this unfortunately. Nearest thing I can think of is NoDataInRoaming.
Let me know how you get on with it
Rick
nodatainroaming worked a treat for me rick. thanks
I want to be in control on when phone tries to connect to network via other ways then WiFi. Do not want to get surprise bills, if the phone tries to connect to internet while I am abroad, for example. So I insterted empty prepaid SIM card (has zero balance, so you can't call from it) and just keep it for some time like this.
Data Connection is off
MS Direct push is off
However, phone still tries to reach internet for some reason. I get this "very imformative" message that you can see in attached picture, that informes me about failed attempt to dial out, but it does not tell which app tries to do that.
Very annoying. Any idea how can i figure out which app is calling out?
It is possible that it may be ActiveSync. I do get it connecting to the internet although all e-mail settings are set for manual syncing. I really should look into how to stop it.
A very nice app called NoData stops any program accessing the internet (except via WiFi).
I can't even see where those ActiveSync settings are, where should I look for those? Will try to find NoData app.
did you mean this one?

This one - NoData
thanks, will try this one
It is most likely because you have something on in Sense that is wanting to see the internet. Things like the weather, and email accout, etc.. will try to update itself from time to time. Make sure you have all automatic updates turn off.
weather and email are set to update only when manually requested, so that should not be a problem. Installed NoData from above post, so far so good, will keep an eye for couple of days.
unhappy to report that still some app uses internet via mobile network without my knowledge. How annoying Nodata certainly removed the message that was popping up, but does not seem like it resolved my problem. Why this has to be so difficult ?
not sure if it will work, but -
try WMLongLife, which (AFAIR) should pop-out a question whether you want to enable 3G - each time when new app is trying to make network connection - this way you could find out which it is
