Best Performing ROM to date - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi,
I just got my hermes back from being repaired. They had to change the whole board inside and thus there is a new (Chinese!) rom on it. I need to install an English ROM again as well as change the keyboard layout (what fun!).
Can anyone tell me which ROM seems to have the least problems right now? I looked through a number of threads but its hard when they are 10+ pages each.
Thanks in advance.

I found LSV's WM6 was heaps heaps faster than other roms I've used in the past....navigating on it felt very quick and responsive.
Only problem I had with it was I had to apply the ATI fix from a thread Slueth posted to resolve. I found the ATI bux only affected the mediaplaying program Coreplayer. And I also had to apply Slueth's A2DP fix as well...after that perfect skip free music from both bitpool set to 30 and 48 (can be set by TweakUI in Start->settings->system->TweakUI).

Can anyone help me out with a recommendation?

Use LVSW
See my signature for the link, but it is the BEST one out there, VERY stable, excellent battery life, etc, etc

I think the best ROM is Black 2.5... no wait it's Custel... hmmmm maybe I'm wrong and want to vote for LVSW or even wait for Kyphur to re-surface (sorry I nearly forgot my favourite Dutty).....
Oops, Chinese alcohol taking over brain, but seriously, no one can really answer this. The people who think XXXX is the best rom do so because it is the best for them - works well with their radio, applications, service provider, Hermes variant etc etc.
The only way to find out is to try them AND try for a few days at least to get a real feel for the stability based on your own useage.
Personally I've now stuck with the LVSW rom for a while (on a UK vodafone VPA1605). I guess that you may have an X01HT because of the Chinese rom and I've just read that some other user had problems with this rom on his X01HT - so even there I can't recommend something which works so well for me.
BUT, have lots of fun trying them all - I did.

Stupid Noob! Needs Advice

Yep the title is right-
I've searched the forums countless times and read the wiki. Although i am more than technically experienced to perform the "upgrades" I cant quite nail down the step by step procedures for my device and the upgrades i desire.
Feel free to rip me a new one- but please direct me down the right path.
Oh i'm not in any kind of hurry.
I have a Cingy/ATT 8525
and I want to run Black and I want all the worthy tweaks that
allow one to have an extended array of functionality.
Thanks in advance and sorry for creating clutter.
Hi
I dont understand what you are asking - are you asking how to flash the black 2.5 rom? The instuctions to do so are in the black 2.5 thread, and also on the RUU installer package that you can download.
All tweaks are also included in the black 2.5 thread.
Its quite a simple flash process.
1) Backup all your personal data as your the device will be formatted (not including the microSD card)
2) Connect your phone via activesync on a winxp pc
3) Run the installer
4) In approx 5 mins, its all done
hi nmonger
thanks for the advice.
What i am trying to accomplish is get a fully tweaked 8525- or as damn
close as humanly possible.

I think that first you have to figure out what do you want with your phone...there are a lot of Tweaks and changes and improves you can do to your 8125, but not all of them could be usefull for you or ...
My personal sugestion is that read again the forum and decide wich things want to change and the go for them... everyone here can help you and there are already a lot of threads whit step-to-step info about upgrading and Tweaking your device.
I could also sugest that you follow the upgrading guide here on the forum and first upgrade the bootloader, then the OS and the Radio... and after that you will have a better phone and the time to look for more changes to apply...

really depends on what you want to use the device for. upgrading is easy [if you read and follow the guides], and the available roms on this site are pretty damn stable (for me at least). Depending on which rom you install, you will need different tweaks, add-ons. For example, for your 8525, at a minimum, you will want the cingular settings (which some roms bake in) and the keyboard fix. Everyone has their favorite installs. For me, a corporate user of the 8525 on Cingular, I have installed the following (keep in mind this is a subjective list) ... I don't watch video or listen to music much with this device, so I have not tweaked it out for these things:
Must haves (for me)
Goodlink
Bandswitch 1.2.3
BatteryStatus today plugin
Cingular Settings (by wpbear)
ComButtong-Toggle-Vibrate-Fix
8525 Keyboard Patch
Cyberon Voice Dialer (I use it, and I know it is lame)
Pocket IE Card Cache (to cache on my SD Card)
Acrobat Reader LE
Speed patch (buzzing for Black 2.5 when I run that ROM)
MPM patch (for Custel 1.3 when I run that ROM)
Fun/nice to haves

Interesting list you have there weinson.
So i have already stated on my journey here is what i have so far, its not a long list but i suppose its a good starting point.
WM6 Pro Black 2.5
Radio Version 1.40.30.00
What i need my 8525 to be is as highly efficient as possible i need the apps to open quickly and be easily found, i do a little traveling so i need my music and maybe a video or two. Web browsing to be effortless because i need to get on the internet for my job (i am a real estate agent) and i need the best WiFi connectivity available in addition to the 3g connection because sometimes im in Wifi enable buildings and cant get a "cell signal", thats also why i am looking at VOIP options and lastly i am searching for a non-windows push service, i'm really going to miss my BB until i can get a reliable solution.
I want to thank everyone for there help so far and the members for this forum ive been lurking for a while and am very impressed with its diligently helpful atmosphere.
Keep sending those suggestions- I will continue my search.

Virgin Diamond Tweaker

Hi,
Firstly I must explain that I'm new to using a forum and this is the first windows mobile phone I've owned, so please be gentle with me.
I've had the diamond for about a month now and after a bit of looking around on the net was pleased to find that the unit could be "Tweaked".
I have found the list of tweaks in the forum but haven't got a clue as to how I add them to my handset. I have also come across two programs that seem to make the job easier. The first is DiamondTweak by MonteCristoffOn and the second is the Advance Configuration Tool 3.1 by schaps.
Could anyone advise me on the best course of action to improve my diamond.
Should I install one of the above programs? Can I install both? Is one better than the other for my handset? Should I do a little more reseach and find out how to add the tweaks individually?
My diamond is with Orange UK:
ROM: 1.37.405
ROM date: 06/12/08
Radio: 1.00.25.03
Protocol Version:52.26a.25.09H
Waiting in anticipation for some guidance.
Many thanks
Or You Can Flash The Phone
and the the chef do all the tweaks for you.
have fun with your new phone and good luck
.....get flashing...you know you want too
i agree with liamhere flash the phone with a cooked rom.
i did it with no experience of these phones.plenty of threads telling you how and the phone is so much better.
i have flashed mine three times this month.
try swift bl or duttys roms.
i use swifts as i like how he sets it up but each to his own.try a few see what you like.
Tweaking
It seems you are interested in tweaking your new phone.
I recommend you do some research of what it is you want to tweak then get the right tool for the right job.
I have tweaked my phone so that the phone does not go blank and allow the mute when face down to work. (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=436771)
To do that, you need to edit the registry which means you need to find a registry edit tool.
But it seems I can not find a tweaked solution to disable the volume button when locked.
get flashing flash! it's the way forward
If you don't want to flash your phone with a cooked ROM (which invalidates the warranty by the way) I'd first contact Orange support about an official ROM upgrade because your 1.37.405 is way behind the 1.93.x.x that the other telco's have provided to their customers. The 1.93 upgrade brings a lot of performance fixes with it so it's well worth having.
And to answer one of the questions; yes you can install one or both of the programs if you so wish. Some of the tweaks is pretty self-explanatory too.

I think you'll find that flashing a cooked rom significantly improves performance over any of the stock roms. I'm using Dutty's 2.5 rom which in my opinion is tweaked to perfection, everything is lightning fast on it and i highly recommend it.
i would definately say upgrade your ROm, even if its to another official one, just make sure it's 1.93. The rom your on at the moment is bound to be painfully slow (my 1.37 rom by T-Mobile sucked so badly) so once you've done that, download the same two programs you've heard of and have a look at the setting sand around the forums to see if there's any tips on which settings to change (there are tips).
If you want to do it even easier, try flashing a custom ROM which usually means you wont have to tweak it to gain the maximum performance and then you are ready to go, just remember to flash a hardSPL prior to flashing!
thats about it?

Just Got My Mogul!

UPS just dropped off my new phone...and i'm excited!
However, i don't know wtf i'm doing So, I turn to you for help. I'd like to get this thing up and rockin' like today so hopefully all this goes smoothly.
1. How do i get Touchflo 2D installed(or any programs/mods for that matter?)
2. Necessary updates? What do i need?
3. WM 6.1(or current version)? Where do i get it and how do i install it?
4. Any tips? Ideas? "You should know's..."?
We'll start with that. I'm pretty sure i'll be a regular 'round these here pert's
Thanks in advance!
alright...so after enough research to figure things out i've gotten this far...
1. Done
2. got all v18 Manilla updates, anything else I need/shoudl get?
3. I noticed the default ROM is a bit sluggish, and have read a bit about thsi one -> "nueROM 3 6152-3pre3"...thoughts? where do i get it?
4. refer to #4 above
My NEW question is...Is there a way i can write up my contacts list from my old phone on my computer(faster typing) and import it?
oh yeah, and im having a hell of a time trying to change a manilla skin...how is that done? It says to place the contents of the folder in the windows directory, but that doesn't work.
Nuerom 3 is available at Nuerom.com
Nuerom 3 is available at Nuerom.com. You need to donate to get an account, just donate a buck.
also, being new to this...
what is "cooked ROM" ?
"cooked" refers to a ROM that has been assembled by people other than the original providers of the phone. I think 'hacked' is probably a more technically accurate term, but cooked sounds better.
The nueROM is a cooked ROM. DCD is another common ROM type as well.
Here: http://ppc.stoleyour.net/xv6800/ is a great tutorial on how to flash the latest DCD rom. This is the one I'm using. Very stable. I've heard promising things from the nueROM 3, but I'm not quite prepared to change over to that... mostly because I'm not looking forward to having re-install/configure my device.
I do have a question though, Did you get this phone in mind for SPRINT?, Because it was an offly awful time to get it, because the HTC Touch Pro is coming out on the 18th of this month (October)
And even if you werent seeking this phone for sprint, im pretty confident that some ROM Chef out there would be willing to make roms and carrie CABS for specified CDMA Networks.
Well goodluck with ur mogul, as im not having much with mine, im terribly regretting the fact i got it only because of its incredibly crippled RAM. Well have a good day
I think the latest DCD ROM is more stable and more free RAM available after the install. Also the kitchen is available and plenty of OEMs to put in the kitchen to cook into the ROM. There is a WiKi link in the sticky notes and how to upgrade your phone to the latest. I have been using the Titan (Verizon VX6800) for almost a year and love it. I don't think that the HTC Touch Pro is going to give you anything more than what you get with a Titan except maybe more memory to run apps. They have already got the interface working on the Titan (Manilla 2d) and are working on the Manilla 3d as well. I prefer the SPB Mobile Shell myself. More info on the Now screen for me to see email and calendar, plus the contacts screen is much better for either calling or texting.
Keep looking through this forum and the Titan Upgrading forum for all kinds of info and apps.
To be completely honest. I'm a little pissed at the moment about this phone. Keep in mind im a noob.
1. My texts' don't say the contacts name on them even after saving the name, just the number shows up. I failed math 3 times in a row in college so i don't do numbers (and im a flash developer...go figure)
2. SLLLOOOOOWWWWWW...this thing CRAWLS, at least with the original ROM. Whats the latest and greatest ROM out there?
3. Half of my SH*T isn't working right, granted i'm using all of this modded stuff, but even still...no internet, phone buttons are dumb, landscape isn't working right...
4. i apologize, i know there are more people out there that like this phone than don't like it...i'm just venting over the frustration of learning a new piece of software/hardware...
and also...i'd like to get some of this taken care of before i get too far into saving names, etc. in thsi thing and have them magically erase cause of a crash lol
Wrong but right.

G3 memory issue

Hi there,
My G3 seems to be running out of memory very, very quickly.
I have (S/I)PL 3.08 and it'sme's TNT Pro + HTC Home rom flashed.
Trouble is, having few apps on the machine installed personally (basically Opera and Google Maps) if I start Opera, I get a memory full error and the browser closes.
I've been checking it out, but I can't see the memory status going below 14mb.
Is this a common issue?
Thanks all
Jason
Our Wizards have very small memory & Opera is one of the heaviest browsers.
You are seeing 14mb of free memory because you are checking it with opera closed. Open opera, let it load one ''heavy'' page & then (without closing it) check your available memory. I am sure you will see something beetween 1-3mb .
If you like Opera so much & you don't want to change it then before you use it make a SoftReset so that you will have the most free memory that you can.
I will also suggest you:
1) To move to a newer rom. Ty one of CRACING's or X2H's. They make Roms for every taste.
2) Try Skyfire browser. It's much lighter than Opera, it's faster & it supports streaming media without the use of any other program.
I hope I have helped.-
hello, thankyou for your reply!
I agree, I tried what you suggested and it did show 4mb on opera use . I also noticed that on startup for about 1 minute i'll have only 2-3mb memory free until it jumps to around 14.
I remember on my old iPaq being able to actively change the storage/program memory to suit with a scrollbar (more storage, less program...etc)
I assure you opera isn't my browser of choice. if I could, i'd have chrome running, but it's not out for wm yet as far as i'm aware. i'll try your suggested browser.
the standard procedure is to flash the oem rom before trying a new one, yes? will any wizard oem rom (i've seen plenty about) be ok for this, or will I need to flash one specific to it's branded name? (imate kjam with no service provider, bought as a standalone unlocked device from manufacturer). I would like one similar to that I have now (tnt pro w/ htc home) do the above offer anything like that, or is wm6.5 better for the device in terms of memory usage etc?
I appreciate these are a lot of questions, however would be greatful for your assistance
thanks,
Jason
I just installed MemMaid - and what a difference!!
From 1-3mb up to 14 on process hungry apps, and from 14 to 22mb on idle!
Happy me
I have tried MemMaid a lot of time ago & I didn't like it (I can't remember why because this happened far-far ago). Now I will give it a try again. Maybe something has changed.
To free up some memory without SoftReset I use Oxios CloseApps. A lot of people suggest using CleanRam but I also didn't like it. Yea I know I'm strange .
It is recommended to first flash an official rom & then a custom. I haven't done it so far & I am flashing my phone at least once a month the last 2 years. I haven't face any problem... yet .
If you want to flash an official rom first, T-mobile 2.26 is the recommended one for every brand.
I am using a WM6.5 CHome rom. I have installed a lot of programs that eats memory. When I SoftReset my device I have about 25mb of free Ram. At the end of the day my Wizard have about 12-14mb of free Ram. So I will recommend 1 or 2 SoftReset per day.
At last I will suggest you again to try one WM6.5 rom with CHome. When i will find some free time I am going to try X2H's WM6.5 (with CHome+LockScreen)- {Build 23007} because usually X2H's roms are bug free. I have tried almost every release of him.
I am happy if I have helped even a little bit .-
That is a fantastic wealth of information you have provided! Thankyou Sam!
Last little enquiry, is that T-Mobile both safe and recommended to do on the G4 (my other device) or seeing as it's straight out of the box with HardSPL I can just install a G4 Rom?
Also, I don't understand the whole "radio" upgrading thing..
A little off the original topic, but I have your attention
I think that T-Mobile 2.26 is not safe for your G4 because it has ipl/spl version in it. As far as I know a rom is safe for a G4 only if it doesn't include an ipl/spl version. I'm not 100% for that so I will suggest you to take a look at Wizard Windows Mobile 6 for newbies especially at section 2. Unlocking.
Now as for the radio rom.
You can flash a radio rom without loosing your data. It's completely safe. I can't recommend you a radio rom because it has to do with the country that you are staying.
For example v2.25 is the best for me (Greece) but for you it maybe mean bad reception, battery drain, or even loosing some calls or text messages. You must find by yourself what version suits you.
Visit the thread Updating Radio Rom for more information & for some Radio Roms.
You can find some more Radio Roms at the Wizard Wiki under the header ''Radio Rom''.
Good reading, you have a lot to do .-
Thanks again Sam!
I'm trying to find out as much as possible, but considering I've had the Wizards all of one week it's a bit new.
I understand the radio now, I don't think I'll do anything to it, seeing as it works just fine here...
I've already unlocked the G4
And I'll be looking into one of the newer roms for the G3 due to the current one not being overly awesome at the moment.
Thanks again Sam!

Well, I haven't tried MemMaid before, but I have it set up to monitor memory use and actively release it. After each soft reset it will also run a "clean" and rid the system of things I don't need.
I installed the WM6.5 w/ CHome on my G4 last night - it is very, very nice!!
I will also be doing that on my G3 tonight, or perhaps see if I can find another one.. thankyou for your help Sam. You've been great!

Swedish n00b wish for a smarter Diamond 2.

Hello Experts!
Sorry for this n00b question, but i can't find what i'm looking for in the many searches I've allready done.
I've gone thru all the stickies and the how-to's but i'm still unsure if i should flash and with what version.
-Got an operator-unlocked HTC D2 with all original Europe/Swedish HTC Rom WM6.5. No extra installs or tweaks.
Things I have problems with:
# Bad internet connections. I never get pages to load to 100% on wap-speed [G]. It constantly just give up the rest of the page after a small interruption.
# Flash support on both Opera and IE.
# Opera & IE sometimes refuses to load anything until i restart phone.
# Not the greatest radiolevels I've seen on any phone.
Besides fixing some problems, I would like to keep my Swedish T9.
What would you suggest I do?
For opera flash: try fixoperaflash
Winmo doesn't support the full flash, so you will have to make due with flashlite, or you could always try skyfire, which has full flash support. As for the radio, try upgrading the radio ROM, which you'll need hard-spl for. For the swedish t9 thing, im not to sure.
Thanks for an accurate reply!
Just help me in what order I need to do these things. My guess is:
1. Hard-spl (no impact on ROM-language?)
2. Radio upgrade
3. Preferred ROM
4. Opera, if not in ROM
5. fixoperaflash
I'll go read everything on that hard-spl bios right now anyhow.
The sequence is correct to me. About point 4, Opera will be present in 99.99% of ROMs,...if there's one browser to cut off, it's IE
correct @ the above post. if you are struggling with HardSPL and/or your ROMs, then check here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585201
as for the radio, the radio being used by most people (version 4.49.25.17) seems to be the best working and is actually pre-installed with most ROMs. (if not, you can always add it later)
as far as flash is concerned, you will not be able to play things like farmville on your winmo phone...at best, as mentioned, you will get flashlite support. it's fairly decent support.
forget the fixoperaflash thing. you wont need it if you grab a good ROM with a stable version of Opera.
good luck and if you got any questions, shoot away!
Let me share my experience about radios: the one Drag-on mentioned is indeed a great radio..I used with WM6.1, but when I upgraded to WM6.5 I noticed that the one in my signature worked better, especially the wifi. So I suggest you to try several of them and see which one is the best for you. Changing radios is easy, every new one overwrites the old one.

I'm not really expecting to be able to run flashgames on a winmo (yet that is), but an embedded youtube or soundcloud or other mediaplayer would be nice to render.
At least it's a nice poke in the eye on every iphone owner to run any flash.
Probably should have clarified this, but not every ROM is in Swedish, so you will have to find one that is in that language

Yeah, I figured that out too
Got thru the Hard SPL process, so now I'm running 1.83 olinex and the 4.49.25.17 radio.
My 3G [H] suddenly wants to connect where i live, but signal is still too weak. I've never even seen it trying to connect b4. Radio is therefore better than htc 6.5 stock. Have not tried wifi yet, as it is not what i can use when i'm not home.
Now i've gotten into the problem of choosing a ROM for my needs. I want one with many program icons on the front for fast access, and i want programs to shut down completely when closed.
First try will be Dutty's with the 4-icon mod, and we'll see where that goes
I must be doing something wrong...
I've now tried and successfully installed two different multilanguage Dutty-Rom's (the two top downloads on the htcpedia topaz site). After all autosettings I go into regional settings, choose Swedish, restart, and it's still in english.
One of the releases even states it's got SVE as language.
Is it me missing something?
Regional Settings do not turn WM into another language, they only change some items such as (as far as I remember) month, day of the week names etc..In order to be fully in swedish, your ROM must have been cooked with swedish localized files and should report the SWE (or SVE) indication. It's strange that the SVE ROM you tried isn't fully translated...maybe the uploaders mixed up the files? Do you confirm you downloaded and installed this version? : http://htcpedia.com/dutty_s_topaz_s...89aeeab6a9d00d/soft/htc-topaz-rom.html?page=1
In that same thread comments seem to be positive, so the ROM should work as expected..
No I did not use that exact file, but I will tomorrow. That looks more like what i'm after.
So many versions and variations in this jungle!
Thanks for the link!
You're welcomeYeah, a little bit confusing...there should be a couple of threads around with all official and custom ROMs that have been released, but I don't know if they are updated.
...and you were spot on. That rom was IN swedish and it runs just fine. Swedish T9 too.
Love this forum allready
