Questions before bying. - P3600 General

Hi!
I'm new to this PDA-phones thingy. I'm thinking of buying one and it seems like the trinity has got almost everything you could possibly want. Reading this forum though there are a few questions about how well it works.
HTC.com states a standby time on 200-250h if only on gsm, 180-200h on umts. I read on this forum about ppl that had problem getting 8h. Are they really exaggerating that much? OK, it is marketing, but still?
I also read about poor audio quality in the gps-enabled rom. Is that still the matter with the latest official release?
What about the HSDPA? Do you get proper bandwith? I saw something about just a few hundred kbit/s even on HSDPA. I thougth this should be a few Mbit/s
I've also read different stuff about the 4gb mini-SD cards. Do they work or not?
How about the bluetooth a2dp. Is the registry hack still necessary?
Finally I wonder about that USB OTG? Is it enabled or not? I've not been able to figure this out. If not, is it even supported by the hardware, and in that case do you think there will be an other software upgrade to enable it?
Is there anything else that any of you think it lacks? I saw some are upset by the missing FM but I won't miss that.

Loads of questions here...
1) I find I get about 3 days out of my battery with average usage (few calls per day, about 10-15 texts)
2) I haven't really used the audio stuff on my phone yet, I was however looking at getting an A2DP headset for some real fun but having read stuff on here I've found that the audio isn't great. So you know, the Trinity doesn't have a 3.5mm jack, you need to get a usb to 3.5mm jack converter (cheap off ebay).
3) I find HSDPA amazing. It is wicked. I use to have an N70 and found this quite slow to browse, the Trinity with HSDPA is great!
4) The corruption of SD cards is a very real problem. There are so many possible fixes on this forum. I tried the ati-fix one and didn't have any luck. I'm using a SanDisk 2Gb ultraII card. Having said that I've only had it stuff up on me once in the last 3 months.
Hope this helps you a bit!

I tend to get about 1-2 days use depending on (obviously!) how much I use it when undocked. The quoted standby times are for phone reception only- ie if you don't have any calls and don't use the device at all, it will last around 250hrs on a charge.
This is obviously nonsense for a Windows Mobile device, as even not using the phone, it will still be used for many other things. But , I suppose that is the convention when quoting battery times on any mobile phone.
The Trinity does not have USB OTG nor USB host, despite some claims to the contrary.
All the ROM's seem to have a bass problem through the headset, but I haven't heard any problem with my Bluetooth Stereo headset. There is a small file fix to correct this if needed.
The registry hack is needed with ALL HTC devices. You can now download HTCTreakUI which has a checkbox for Stereo performance
HSDPA is variable. The maximum you will see is about 1.5Mbps, and more typical is 600-700kbps. Much depends on local traffic. Sometimes, in the City of London, using Orange, I don't get more than 100kbps. You will only appreciate the higher speeds with sustained downloads.
I've not had any problems with my MobyMemory 2GB Ultra card. The Trinity is much less susceptible to this problem than those devices that use MicroSD cards. HTC have just released a fix for the problem. Not much FB yet on how it works.

My experience has been that if you don't play with the unit could easily get the specified battery life!
However the thing with PDA phones is that they have so much functionality you will use them a lot more than a 'normal' less featured cellphone. And the more you use it the shorter the battery life.
My experience is that I get around 3 days with normal usage.
Also one thing to think about is that since the Trinity can be charged thru a normal mini USB cable I've found I charge the thing more often than my old cellphone. I spend most of my day on or near a PC and generally with a mini-USB lying around somewhere, so if the unit needs charging it is much easier than having to hunt around for the wall charger as I did with my old phone.

Buy a Universal or keep the Magician

Hey guys,
I've got quite a problem: I've got an Magician now, and i'm thinking of buying an Universal. Will I be sorry for it, or be the happiest person on the planet?
The reason I want an Universal, is that the things I use my Magician for, MSN, internet, sending sms and sometimes a short call, is not really what it's meant for. Right now I'm using an SPECTEC SDIO, what means I can hardy download anything. Cause of the Qwerty keyboard, build-in WiFi and larger screen, I think that an Universal is the better choise. Am I thinking right, or are there better options to think of?
Thank you in advance..!
I went from a magician to the universal. The pros are the screen, combined with opera finally you have real internet and dont get me started on logmein . The keyboard is real handy too, this also has a downside, its so handy that all my text messages are two texts long cause the keyboard invites you to type more. A real downside is the size and weight. You cannot put the universal in your pocket (at least I cant). Also the battery life is not that good. I always carry an external accu on penlites for emergencies.
It really depends how you will use it, if you're gonna use it as a phone, stick with the magician, if you're gonna use it as a mini laptop, buy it asap.
And change provider to T-mobile because they offer unlimited data-plan for EUR 9,50 ;-) Because of the unlimited data and UMTS I hardly use WiFi, too much hassle, too much battery drain and too little speed gain compared to UMTS.
You might want to hold off just a bit, I believe the HTC TyTN (Or Hermes) is coming your way in just a few weeks. Do a google search on it if you're not familiar with it, on paper it's almost the perfect phone.
If all else fails, or if you really like the Universal's platform (Clamshell, swivel screen tablet) it's one wicked phone My favorite phone so far.
That Hermes has the same look as the Wizard, and that's exactly what I'm not looking for. I use my magician to type long pieces of text, and I think the keys are way to small to do that. And ain't it so, that it has an 2.8" screen?
And Kassad, I think T-Mobile Web 'n Walk (Pocket Internet Totaal) is way to slow. With my Magician the internet speed at home stops at 300 kilibyte per second, and I'm still anoyed when I try downloading an MP3file with my phone. (I know, 1meg a second makes people spoiled.. )
I think when I'm back from vacation I've sold my Magician and the money is there to get my Universal.. (You all don't know one thing about me.. I'm 13.. )
I think universal has everything on it, the keypd is really makes me more typin, and ofcourse UMTS is more benefitial for downloading data quicker.
Battery drain is not a problem if you use it wisely, well weight is a bit prob but it is alright for me

Web'n'Walk works at 320 Kb/s for me, so I'm quite happy with the speed. And when I need it, I can connect to an WiFi accespoint and get a working 1,6 Mb/s
Sorry guyss.. I was about 10000 kilometers away.. Had a great holiday.. Butt.. Haven't got any phone at the moment.. So I used an old Samsung.. But forgot it was not a Tri-band phonee.. But.. Now I've got the money for an Universal.. Almost.. Spended wayyyy to much in Sri Lanka.. So I bought an few Nokia Chargers there..*Really cheap....* So I can sell them heree.. So0w I can add that to my Universal savings.. Also have to sell an Spectec wifi-card.. So it ain't going to be a problem.. Now I've got to find one I like..
I have magician too,and I'm going to buy Universal. Can anybody specificates the duration of the battery in the different situation(phone, navigator, pda)? And which is the range of the wi-fi connection?
nobody can help me?

i think the battery is quite good, disagreeing with the complaints on it. even so, i bought a second battery, very cheap and came with its own external batt charger woo hoo. but i bought it only because i'm a battery maniac
you can also get loads of extended batteries for cheap, 3000, 3200, 3800, 4400, 4800 mAh.. the 3000 and 3200 ones are quite cheap and readily available.
if you just use it as a phone, with the 1620 mAh default battery, and have the brightness at 10% (i always have it at 10% because it is bright enough even at that level! seriously 100% brightness burns my eyes ok outdoors i sometimes crank it up to 40%), then i *think* you can use it for two or three days or if you make too many calls it will still probably last 1 day easily. i dunno, i never make calls, just write a lot of sms's.
if you use it as a pda, at the same brightness, and you read ebooks, at 10% it will last 8 hours easily (with phone turned on most of the time). normal pda usage (with some wifi and umts), 4-5 hours; umts (continuous), 3-4 hours; wifi (continuous) 3. these are estimates from my experience.
oh and dunno about navigation. i don't use it for that.
finally, wifi range is average, it is ok in most situations.
did this help?
There are a lot of things to like and a lot of things to dislike about the Universal. The ones that I dont like are:
Battery Life... used to be around 7/8 hours when I first bought it 7 months ago, now its down to 3 hours. But I do make a fair number of calls on it. Even then, the battery life is horrible. 3 hours is a joke and the battery now crashes at 60%.
Bulk: Its a bulky phone, not easy to fit in your pocket, not easy to carry around. Remember, size matters ;-)
Slow: Load a few today programmes and its slow. Compared to my earlier XDA II, its about 60% as fast. On the XDA, everthing was instantaneous, here I have to wait for an application to open. Probably due to the miniscule memory in the phone.
Reception: Signal strength is not on par with most phones but that is true of the XDA too so guess its a HTC issue. Nokia with the same sim card will show full signal and with the Universal, its at least one bar less all the time.
Just few pet peeves........
If I were to do it all over again, I have to confess that I wouldn't buy the Universal.
Cheers, Vikas.
well, buy a new battery, very cheap on ebay & dont use crappy today plugins, i don't and my universal is fast. i do have a today plugin but it is simple and doesn't consume any resources.
maybe this could help..
but the universal is primarily for those who appreciate this form factor. IMO i love the form factor
I decided: It'll be an Wizard.. Think the Universal maybe really is to big for me, I tried one in a phone shop, but didn't manage to get it into my pocket. Than I would always have to carry a bag with me, which won't be any of a problem going to school.. But that's not the only thing in life.. A wizard can't be any problem, because it is not that much bigger than the magician I had. Now I'm looking for an wizard.. 150euros.. Offers, someone....? Only in the Netherlands, taxes are way to high from foreign countries.

Yes, it is bulky but then, does any other phone offers you VGA display ?? Nope. You want big screen, keyboard too, then, why yammer about the size

Mine is very fast. It depends how you have set up your pocket pc. If you use awful apps like spb P+ which make you PPC crawl and use their memory hungry plugins then why r u complaining about the speed bro

hi kdskamal,
i was wondering what you use in the place of today plugins like P+.. i find it quite hard to replace and have been living with the speed of my Universal.. but i'd love to hear alternatives..

well, depends on what features you use from spb+. i just need a taskmanager which has a better close button than spb (spb is so stupid) and one that doesn't slow the device down so much.. so i found magicbuttons which is free and consumes very little resources. and it even puts icons of the running programs on the "taskbar".
i also needed a battery meter: magicbuttons takes care of this with the help of uptime.
if you need a PIE plugin, there are alternatives again, but i don't use PIE so i can only quote their names, multiie, pieplus, ftxpbrowser (latter is free). but opera is much better
that's all i can say for now, but let us know what other features you need.
finally I buy the universal!I immaginate it less heavy, but it's ok.
Today I use it for 2 hours as navigator,2 short calls, and the battery is at 32%(total time used 3 hours). Is it normal?
Does anybody know which is the latest italian rom?I have 1.13

try decreasing the brightness! as i said i have mine on 10% of brightness (backlight). this will surely help. and 10% is always enough. 40% is more comfortable outdoors on a sunny day but 10% is still very good even then as this is a transflective screen, not transmissive. 8)
anyway your usage means 4 hours of battery life, it is not bad.
(oh and don't try 0% it means backlight off, unusable)
I already follow your suggest!
How many free ram have you after hard reset? And which rom do you use?
I thing I have to buy a bigger battery!

For today plugins, you can try iLauncher from sbsh.net
http://www.sbsh.net/products/ilauncher/
something extra:I use handy switcher for task switching. I have assigned my video call button to this app. It can also close the apps without touching the stylus. On top of that, it just occupies 60kb.

Advice wich one to buy

Hi there please help me to decide wich Pocket PC to buy!
HTC P3600 or ASUS P735?
They are at approx. same prices so Wich one is better?
Thanks
Trinity. Why? Because P735 has no GPS, has a weaker battery, has no infrared. On the other hand, P735 is equipped with a faster processor, more flash memory, auto focus and probably doesn't peel off, which is nice...
@dubart
Thanks a lot, Dubart, I'll be more than interested if you could tell me about the p3600.
Actually how powerfull the battery is-especially when using wi-fi? The Samsung CPU- how fast is? is it capable of managing the latest version of Skype, or some 3D game? The camera isn't problem for me.
Do you know what graphic chip is being used in the Trinity? Is it capable of playing xvid without conversion?
Finally does every single p3600 peel off?
Camera is not worth mentioning at all... totally useless, if you want my opinion. Well, it's difficult to judge battery power because it depends on many many things (usage, network, etc) but I'll describe my experiences:
I usually charge my Trin every second night. Sometimes even every night, but I'm OK with that because prior to Trinity I used Symbian-powered Nokia N80 which never managed to last until 8 pm. Wi-Fi, backlight and GPS drain the battery significantly. I've tried 2-3 times using wi-fi & GPS all day long, and needed charging after a couple of hours already. Even bluetooth & infrared make an important difference when battery time is concerned. 400 MHz Samsung processor is fine, but only 64 MB of RAM is inadequate. Skype works just fine, but not v2.2 (good for chat only, voicecalls don't work) - you need to find v2.1 (both chat & voicecalls are OK).
Graphic chip is by ATI and I'm not sure about XviD...
And finally - peeling: mine started peeling off after almost two months, but a friend of mine has it (black one, too), and his one started after just a couple of days (maybe his fingernails are a bit longer ). It peels around reset button and around stylus 'compartment' (cannot remember the exact term for it right now...). You can read here that the problem exists with black ones only, but the white one is hard to find, unless Orange branded.
Networks here in Croatia are both 2G&3G and when I set the device to choose them automatically, it ocasionally drops calls (when on 3G), so I keep it manually on 2G and turn it to 3G just when I need to make a video call or surf using 3G speeds (which is not so often because of prices here...).
Where are you from?
polaris look sweet imho
If you are going to get any asus wait for the p750. It is going to be great. I have the 3600 and it has been a good little device. Its not the best at everything but it does everything well enough. I am going to wait for the p750 to come out in Oct/Nov.
I have the black p3600 for 3 months now and mine hasn't peeled at all yet! I have been really happy with it. Definitely worth the money. I use the wifi loads at home and it works a treat. (I am using it right now)
If that screen is 2.8", then it must be too big because it has a non-sliding keyboard
Buy the Trinity
Well I'm really concerned about the skype and that peel off.
Actually I've read that the skype for Samaung CPU is still in beta version.
Could be that the problem?
What kind is that chip by ati?
Imageon what?
Is it possible to use it for 3D accelerator?
Thanks to all of you!
Здравеи!
Don't worry about Skype. As I've told you - it works, but v2.1 which you can download from www.skype.com. Skype is probably working on a solution for Samsung processors. The graphic chip appears to be ATI The Imageon™ 2282 according to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1068170&highlight=ati+imageon#post1068170. Someone here posted a photo of Trinity's motherboard, try to find it, and you'll see what chip that is.
3D games work as well.
What's the price of P3600 in Bulgaria? Around 700€ here, that's why I bought it in Germany.
p3600
The best pda, smart phone i've ever had! Its got the best features about! It will do me fine until the polairs comes out

In BG now the trinity is sold for arround 500 euros, and I've heard that the cost will drop to 450 till christmas.
The graphics aren't teriblly fast but I hope to work for unconverted Xvid.
What about he Flash content viewing with the Trinity?
Is it true that there is fullyt functional plugin from Adobe wich makes possible viewing the flash objects inside the Pocket IE or Opera?
Have you tried this, and does the Trinity's hardware managed to render the flash content reasonably well-like desktop PC?
What about the sound quality from the stereo handsfree-bad, good, perfect?
I'm keeping asking a lot, please keep answering !!
I would wait for Polaris or maybe for Ipaq 600 / 900.

Yes, there is Adobe Flash available and it opens flash movies, but I just cannot make it work within IE or Opera. I always get a message that a plug-in is missing. The headphones that were in-the-box are nothing special, but I've found them to be OK after playing with Audio Booster.
Thanks Dubart!!
Is it possible to listen music with a standard 3,5" headphones using somekind of miniUSB-3,5" connector?

Yeap, it is. I bought one of those adapters from eBay. They're very cheap, altogether with shipping it costs around 6 €! The sound on Sony's megabass headphones is great.

Best HTC phone as of right now?

Hey guys! I am an avid reader of this forum and i was just wondering.....i'm looking to upgrade to another HTC phone. I currently have the wizard and i LOVE it! Just curious as to which HTC phone i should upgrade to, Are any of them as "open source" (for lack of a better term) as the wizard? As far as the community and the custom roms go? Any suggestions?
I was looking at the Tilt? is that a good choice?
Also, when i am buying one is there anything to watch out for like there is with the wizard? Like the G3 and G4 versions
TYTN 2 !!!!
Hmmm....i've kinda spent the last few hours just browsing through the forums on the newer phones, apparently there is some kind of video driver issue with the Kaiser....should i wait for maybe the touch cruise?
I will second XabdullahX's vote of the TYTN 2!!!

I also vote that the Kaiser/Tilt/Tytn II is the way to go (I bought the Tilt and am loving it). Its a little different with the key layout than the wizard. I'm getting more used to everything being around the D Pad, but at first I didn't care for this (I still have to be careful not to hang up on a call when trying to press the right soft key). The phone has a ton of memory and is fast.
What you've been reading about in the Kaiser forums on the video driver is that the phone is capable of so much more, but HTC isn't using the proper drivers. What it does do is still very good, and personally I'm very happy with it and feel it was money WELL spent... Supposedly a media player app (don't recall which offhand but its a commercial one) is coming out with a new version that has fixed drivers or something in it. A lot of people are waiting to get their hands on this to see if they can use that to improve some other things.
So if you are a heavy watcher of movies or high performance games, you may want to evaluate the Kaiser/Tilt/Tytn II a little more. But for the majority of the uses of a PPC, its a fantastic phone...
OK, not to brag, but I have my Tilt fully loaded right now with Dutty's 7b ROM and a lot of apps (almost everything I have loaded into the phone's memory and not to my storage card). I have 85MB of free storage memory and 55MB of RAM free. HUGE change compared to the Wizard where you are trying to eek out every bit of space by cramming everything on your SD card and not having but a couple of apps open at a time to conserve precious RAM...
Yep, the Kaiser it is, or if you dont need a keyboard the Polaris.
Surur
I like the kaiser a lot too, but from personal experience, they have some issues with these devices. Hardware and software related. In particular, the BT Stack seems to um, SUCK big time. A couple of my friends had them (Tilts) and they both had horrible BT performance. Either they couldn't connect to certain Headsets/Car Kits or they couldn't walk five feet away from the device while connected without a bunch of static. These are common problems.
I'm waiting to see if they announce some kind of fix for that. It may just be the Tilt versions - not really sure, but BT stack issues are major to me. I always use BT.
apart from the fm radio and no keyboard and screen the cruse is pretty much the same hardware as kaiser so unless that suffer from the same driver issue as kaiser
only the keyboard thing should be the factor of which one to get if you ask me

I must be lucky. I work in a home office upstairs in our house, and I can use my jawbone BT connected to my Tilt and walk downstairs to the kitchen and only get a small amount of scratching sound. When I was using my Wizard, by the time I got to the bottom of the stairs I knew I had forgoten my phone as the scratching and popping sounds were pretty bad.
Could be that this was because I was using the unofficial AKU AT&T ROM (I immediately upgraded to this when I got my Tilt as I at first understood it was an official AT&T upgrade). Now running Dutty's 7b which is based off the HTC rom and my BT sound is even better and more clear than the AT&T roms ever were, so it could be more the AT&T rom than the HTC rom with BT issues.
tilt
i just got my tilt(kaiser) and in my personal oppinon...it totally kicks ass...seriously. i was kinda wondering bc of how much it coses but let me assure it was well worth it
The Kaiser is a terrific device and I'm very happy with it. Ofcourse there are some issues (like the video drivers, and audio glitch) that do not make it perfect for all uses.
If you want to play a lot of games or video or so, don't go for the Kaiser right now - that situation might improve, I'd wait and see what happens.
Note that the Touch variants all have the same issue.
HTC TyTN II and HTC Touch Cruise (same as TyTN II but without keyboard) are the best phones out there.
Call me crazy but I like the wizard still. I have a Hermes 8525, Faraday 2125 and I tried out the Tilt for a day. Not much differant then the Hermes but has a ton of memory. For a smart phone, the Faraday is awesome.

agreed...i LOVE my kaiser....but at the end of the day im always like damn that wizard was one hell of a phone....seriously
i have a 8125 and a 8525 also tried tilt because my friend has one and he let me plaay with it for a day
if your looking for speed of course go to 400mhz but it does not mean that wizard is slow because of frequent change in roms it can match the speed more or less
only thing here is the memory of course tilt has the most; second is tytan and last but not the least is my 8125... what makes the wizard advantageous is that it has a double speaker unlike tytan the speaker is placed at the back it produces less sounds in a process
I dont know if 4gig or 8gig can support the wizard but it has happened to kasier and tytan
IMHO:
one last and important thing that I have noticed is in the wizard forum all of the good rom makers has not made roms nowadays??? that is the only sad part
in kaiser and tytan rom makers are very much active this makes the HUGE difference between the phone

Did you forget XM6R5, That rom is awesome.
yeah aside from mfrazzz... I miss the times when there are too many roms to choose from maybe it is because people here know now about cooking and still I am a noob for cooking and trust cookers t put there files here???
oh well I can only blame myself actually...
As my Nike is bust (see my sig) I will probably be looking to get another HTC phone in it's place. So I'm asking the same question.
From what I've read the Kaiser and TyTn 2 are the best, am I right in thinking that one of these two would be the best phones to have? Like the first post, I'd like a phone that's 'open source' so to speak (ie. popular, lots of mods for it) and WiFi and SD slot.
i can ask nothing more out of my vogue, till i get my hands on the touch HD
My vote is for the Tilt/Kaiser. I bought mine off craigslist for $200. Best $200 I'd spent in some time. I love my Wizard but the ROM's available for the Kaiser are just amazing and the device itself is fast, Stable, and just plain fun to work with.

Atom Life any good?

Hi Ppl,
I new here and new to PDA as well. After see everything in the market...
I have really liked the Atom Life.....But There seem to be quite few bad reviews about the Phone......So is worth getting the phone......
@tazzak m8 firstly hi and lemme say one thing that i surely feel what you are going through right now that is exactly what i felt in august (at the time of my buying the LIFE)
you know since then i have actually wondered and awed at why the LIFe got such reviews .... since my buying this phone which had come with the WM6 official ROM installed (though i have upgraded it twice officially since then) i have had no problems NO PROBLEMS what so ever...
though i surely have a few qualms that guys at O2 could have had an icing to the cake with a 128MB RAM (though this is not any slower) and the other complain is that all hardware vendors should do something bout the Batteries as these PPCs are huge power hogs due to their large screens it seems but then even with my Nokias i charge them daily (with regular use)
in the end i must say that my choice has never been a regret for me !
welcome to the world of Windows Mobile ;-)
How are the Speakers on it OK?
I usually use the spaeker phone for calls most of the time......
just dont buy this devise
The speakerphone is OK, but the volume isn't high enough to use it as a car handsfree. If you're in a room without much noise you should be good. I am very satisfied with mine, but they do have their quirks. Like a crappy original battery. Get one of the cheap batteries available on eBay, it will actually work better than the original. The original has problems with restarts on incoming call if they are too low on power (which means everything below 50 %).

Yup! agree should try it out before getting it. O2 Atom Life has its flaws
Like all PDA phones I've ever had. I actually started with an extremely primitive Motorola "smartphone" and have followed the development of more and more advanced models, along with straight PDA's from the PocketLoox and beyond, until they really converged. Not one of them has been without flaws, and strangely enough all forums I have been at seems to think that their phone brand is the only one with problems! (Like people with PocketLoox complaining about the bluetooth and that Ipaqs got a lot more updates. So I bouht an update. And found out that the reason it got more updates was that it had more problems, not just with bluetooth but other things as well!)
sounds like the phone gives a pain in the ass.
Just my opinion. been using O2 life for 4 mths now. Like most new phone/pda, I will start to install lots of stuff. Cause me lots of headache with auto off , drop call etc. Battery last less than 1 day. I have reformat and install only what I need. 1 whole month without any problem. The thing is, just install what you need and the world will be a beautiful place
I have a special way of doing this: I do a full setup of the Atom with all programs I use and all settings except contacts and appointments. Then I do a full backup with SPB Backup. In a month or so the unit wil start to mess with me (the first sign is usually that it won't charge in the cradle, connected to the PC, only in a regular charger). Then I do a hard reset and restore the backup. It takes 10 minutes to do this, and I have a virginal phone again. I have of course set camera and other things to save to the memory card. This way memory leaks and other annoyances can be stopped very fast!
Great phone - and other things
Like you, I read the negative reviews but there wasn't a device out there that somone didn'nt like. I bit the bullet and upgraded my XDA II Mini which was OK but I had some gripes with and bought my new Life. It's been a great device with absolutely no problems. It even works well as a speakerphone but my car is pretty quiet. Simple solution - run the phone through your stereo, either using an FM transmitter or plug it in and you'll have no problems hearing.
My phone is very stable but I do agree that the stock battery life is crappy.
Highly recommended.
Actually, Atom Life is an excelent device but it has its flaws. What made it a bad device is because of the support. Most problems faced by customers are not solved. Instead, customers are asked to hard reset as the solution.
O2 Asia is terrible. The new company, MGW seems to be no different. It has been about 4 months MGW existed but their web page remain unfinish. This is mainly because the CEO is the same person.
If I ever change my PDA, I'll go for HTC. Why? O2 Xda II mini which is O2 Asia bestselling device is made by HTC, or better known as Magician.
MWg is selling a newer version which comes with WM6 pre-installed. Does anyone have that version? Is it any better?
Mobileplanet / Expansys is selling it at 399 which makes it a great deal IMHO.

I am selling this phone cheaper. I am using it and I really like Atom Life, especially since the 1900 3G works well with AT&T in the US.

I got my HD! Wow! =)

Welcome me! Congratulate me!
I'm officially part of you guys now! =)
Ok, its a long history, but let me recall from my first PDA:
1. Palm IIIc (Color!)
2. HP Jornada (Pocket PC! - Windows! Can play MP3 and has CF slot!)
3. Toshiba e310 (Windows Mobile! Has a SD slot)
4. Wallaby (First Pocket PC Phone Edition), made by HTC, T-Mobile branded
5. Magician (small form factor, PPC was finally same size like regular cell phone)
5. Universal (integrated keyboard, VGA screen, BT, Wifi, camera, etc..)
6. Prophet (tired of carrying bulky Universal and all the tricky part to do simple tasks like answer phone calls etc). Prophet has the best d-pad and hardware buttons. Last edition of HTC made PPC that still has the following: full size SD card slot, Infrared, normal audio jack. After Prophet, everything changed: mini/micro SD slot, no infrared, and no normal audio jack anymore. Prophet is the PPC I use the longest.
7. HTC Touch HD!
Finally, I decided its the time to embrace the HD! I'm so happy and excited holding my Prophet and the HD side by side! I'm surprise with the size of the HD, the weight, and the thickness.
For me, this upgrade will give me:
- Screen expansion, means better reading experience, better typing, better browsing, and playing movies etc.
- Integrated GPS
- Memory upgrade (from my 4GB SD to the 8GB micro SD (or more in the future)
- Processing speed
While still maintain the same weight as the Prophet and slightly thinner, only a bit bigger.
I'm charging it right now, cannot wait to play with it once its fully charged!
My first impression unboxing it:
1. Device-perfect!
2. Micro SD card: thanks HTC for including it. No adapter btw to use it with a normal SD reader, but luckily the HD has USB 2.0 client, so I hope no issue for transferring large files using the USB cable. In my prev PPC, transfer speed was always an issue, so I always use SD reader instead of the USB cable.
3. Pouch... it looks nice, and perfect fit. No problem putting it in and pulling it out.
I tried few times and found no issues. A bit worried before because I read some comments from the posting that mentioned its very hard to take it out from the pouch.
However, when I put the pouch with the HD inside my shirt pocket then took it out, ohhhh... it sticks all the fabric and look like... I don't have a word to describe it.
4. Power adapter... very small, nice! But, it does not have the charging cable, instead it has the USB port. It seems now HTC embrace the same stingy policy like Apple. With only one USB cable included, it means you have to unplug it and bring it along with the charger. No issue for me, I have plenty USB cable, but I can see people that buy a PPC for the first time will have issue to use the same cable for charging with the charger, and for syncing with the PC.
And the plug is British plug. Not sure where to buy the matching one (just the plug) for US. ='( The seller was nice enough to include a British-US adapter in the package, but now the power adapter becomes a big charger like the Lego.
5. HTC includes a "Smart Accessories" brosure!
I open it up, what is listed there?
Stereo headset (with ExtUSB connector) - does not work with HD
Multifunction Audio Cable (with ExtUSB connector) - does not work with HD either
Desktop Cradle (with audio-out port) - does not work with HD either
Oh.... why they simply not consistent make the HD ExtUSB carry also the audio signal?
Ok, that's my comment so far. I'll enjoy my HD! =)
hahahah!
Its like if I am hearing myself!!!
I was also really happy when i got my HD... After a couple of weeks i am still MAJOR IN LOVE with my device!!
The things you can do with your blackstone is uncredible!!
Well have fun with your blackstone!
Nice post.
Welcome to HD HQ.
lie_ui,
I see you live in Texas. I thought the HD was Europe and Asia 3G freqs. Can you use 3G? I really would like to get my hands on one of these but I want the 3G speed. I will be moving to Singapore later this year and was going to wait but your post makes me want to speed up my buy.
Nope. No US 3G. Edge is decent for little web and pushing emails and stuff. Lots of locations actually have WiFi available so its not that bad. Plus with 3G I'd imagine the battery dying a lot quicker.

sorry to burst your bubble, but this has been addressed 10 milliion times )); no NAM 3G bands... get it early anyway!!
No 3G... yes, I read that too. I was wondering though, what about HSDPA? I thought the HD can do that and doesn't AT&T have HSDPA in a lot of cities? (its fast like 3G, no? Yes? )
i'll put it this way, lol, it's EDGE or GPRS only. that's it.
Hi Bruto,
No, we all know that HD does not support the US 3G, either T-Mobile or ATT. However, both the GSM part for phone service and the EDGE for data service are excellent!
I have been using T-Mobile EDGE for years with my Prophet so I know what to expect.
For me, as long as the important ones working, ie: ActiveSync over the air to sync with the work Exchange, and POP3/IMAP to get personal emails, then the rest like browsing can wait when I get to office/home. Google Map is working fine too, its just a bit slower.
Just let me know if you have any more questions, I'll be happy to answer.
Where did you get yours? What did you pay?

All sold out in SIN (Changi Airport) a few days ago, but I expect that prices will drop slightly over the next few months, economy and all...
Btw, you would probably be able to get full 3G in SIN, I would think!

Just got mine too, ~4 hours ago from mobile square (Far East Plaza, Singapore).
Played a bit with youtube in the MRT, but 3G certainly not the same everywhere: a bit slow from my HDB (nearby Lakeside MRT).
Hi Bruto,
I got mine from Smart Mobile Gadgets, they based in California.
$750 total (including free shipping).
I ordered mine last Friday and received it yesterday Monday.
I cannot say anything but... excellent service!
(They even put in a British to US adapter, though this makes the charger bulky, but without it, the charger cannot be used here as it has British plug).

I wanted to order from Clove (UK) but not very confident as I can never be sure how much actually the cost will be, and how long before it come it, plus the possibility of custom issue.
