First I apologise if this has been asked before but I have tried to look for it on here.
Is there some sort of registry entry that will turn on the back light permanently?
Backlight applet in COntrol Panel, uncheck "Turn off backlightif device is not used for..."?
I have tried this but it reverts back to "Turn off" on a soft reset which is regular occurrence as I use sprite backup.
I found this thread http://www.pocketmax.net/smf/index.php?topic=1220.0 but it doesn't seem to make any difference?
So it seems to be a manual switch each time the device is reset!

Anyone know how to get the backlight back to the original setting? I tried to go into Settings to Battery Icon and clicked on Backlight and adjusted it there but everytime the phone goes into sleep mode, the backlight always reverts to power saver mode and I cant see a damn thing on my screen. It is very frustrating...anyone know how to correct this problem? Am I doing something wrong???? TIA....M3
I have the same problem, but in my Wisard the problem happens when a soft reset is executed ... I was searching about it on the internet and I found that maybe the problem is an incopatibility between the fone and the SPB Pocket Plus backlight functionality ... I will try to uninstall the SPB to see what happens ...
Here's my backlight bug theory...
On the Wizard there are problems with any programs that try to change the backlight settings and often the result is they end up turning it off.
PocketZenPhone, PhoneAlarm and SPB Pocket Plus all have features to control the backlight (do you have the backlight plugin installed on your today screen?) that load at boot, or on the Today screen, and these seem to cause problems.
I use PhoneAlarm and have problems on occasion. Believe it or not I found the solution was to tell PA to set the backlight at 40% which it can't be set to on the Wizard (25% increments only) and it stops shutting it off. If I have it set for 50% (which *is* valid on the Wizard) it shuts it off.
Anyway this is my theory on the mysterious backlight bug, if anybody else has any other ideas, I'd love to hear them.

If you go to the backlight applet and check the Turn on backlight when a button is pressed or the screen is tapped on both the Battery Power and External Power tabs you should be all set. Had the same issue after the last iMate ROM update and this is what fixed it.
Hope it works for you. Good luck.

I find that if I set the turn off backlight after X seconds (default is 10 seconds) it will always reset itself back to default no matter if I uncheck the box or set it to 1 minute (like I would like to set it to). I'm not sure why the setting changes because none of the other settings in the same backlight settings applet change back to their default values.
Anyone have this issue?
There are some programs did that. What I did was hard reset my phone then installed all programs one by one. There are some programs that concerned about power conservation.
Check the registry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\LockLevel\LockLevel
If value is "1" change it to "0"
Please soft reset your device and test again on backlight turning off on the preset timing.
Thanks to Mike, the Moderator.
Change the backlight timer under setting. DO NOT soft reset your Hermes. Instead, long pressing the on/off button, and press Yes to turn the phone off. By doing that, Windows will save all changes in the registry before turning off. Good Luck!
Whe I switch on my phone by pressing the top-right button, the phone is locked and the backlight is on. After 6 sec the backlight turns off.
When I unlock my phone, the backlight stays off
I would expect that the backlight gets on when you unlock... but it isn't.
Now I have to press the top-right button twice (to turn off and back on) and unlock within 6 seconds to get the backlight on.
This is very annoying.
Is there a way to get the backlight on after unlocking?
I have no solution - but can confirm that this happens to my phone too.
Hi,
Same problem here Found it very annoying so I just disabled the Backlight shut-off function alltogether

This seems to only happen if you use some kind of tweak that adjusts the auto-lock function. I used to use HD Tweak and changed the value for some auto-lock thingy (can't remember what it was).
After I hard-reseted it seems to have gone back to normal. So I would avoid any setting that changes the auto-lock thingy.
Note that uninstalling HD Tweak did not restore the correct functionality. Probably because I did not undo the changes prior to uninstalling.
So maybe you can try to change back the value first and see if it helps.
Good luck, I found that bug very annoying and decided I could live with no auto-lock.
Hi Saros,
Thanks for the input

I use HD Tweak aswell and had a feeling the Backlight Issue only occurred after enabling the Auto-Lock feature, thanks for confirming my suspicions. I DID however turn the feature back OFF in HD Tweak. Unfortunately that did NOT solve the problem
Don't feel much for a Hard-Reset at this point since it took me quite a while to get my new phone set-up correctly. Hopefully a fix will be available, I'll go browse through the HD Tweak topic to see if anything gives yet...

Rolf,
Disabeling the Backlight shut-off function is a good tip. Thanks.
But I still hope there will be a fix for this problem soon... so we don't use to much battery capacity.

I had this problem when i changed some registry keys. The following must be:
HKEY_CurrentUser\ControlPanel\Backlight\[AutoDeviceLockEnable set to 0]
HKEY_CurrentUser\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel\[LockLevel set to 0]
marpam,
When I set the first regkey back to 0, the autolock doesn't work anymore.
When I manually lock the device by press and hold the down-right button (stop call), the problem still exist when you unlock.
I want to keep the autolock function, but with backlight back on when I unlock the device.
Bart
I had this same problem. I did a hard reset and again set auto lock in tweak then shut off backlight off and the problem is gone and now auto lock is fine.
You can also use Lumos - solved the issue for me

Anyone know how to change (extend) the amount of time the screen will stay on? Or disable auto-shutoff all together?
I have tried Setting> All Settings> System> Power> Advanced> "Turn off backlight if not used for" and "Turn off device if not used for" but changing the times and unchecking the options all together don't seem to make any change with the screen shutting off. It shuts off halfway through messages in visual voicemail, and it's annoying to try and read things on the internet when the screen shuts off every 30 seconds and I have to 'unlock' every time.
Any help?
Thanks!
I haven't tried it, but have you unchecked the auto adjust backlight option on the Backlight tab in that same Power Settings menu?
i havent but i will try it now.
that didn't fix it.
I did a hard reset and now the options in the power settings menu work as they should... going to run sprite backup to restore everything and hopefully it will stay fixed.
ok so after hard reset the backlight would stay on per the settings... then I restored via sprite backup and now it won't stay on again...
Sounds like there is some reg settings you imported, maybe from a cab install you did prior to backup? Not sure of all the keys involved offhand that would potentially affect this.
bump.. It's back. The screen turnoff and turnoff device setting in the power options have no effect.. it turns off the screen after 30 seconds no matter what. Really annoying when trying to watch videos or read an email.
Any ideas?
It's such a pain to hard reset.
From what you've said it sounds like you've imported something in the sprite along with the rest of your stuff. This is the number one reason I don't use back up apps. Buts that's just me. If you can't figure out what app you've installed that is causing it then you will have to HR again and restore apps one by one.
This may be more of a general WinMo problem, but since the device I am using is an X2, I guess I'll put it here.
Recently, a friend of mine gave me a proto X2 to play with, but never got to play with it until the day before yesterday. But I found that the device does not go into standby mode.
When I try to put it in standby mode, the screen would flicker (off then on) but would stay on.
I figured there was something set in the registry that made it stay awake, but I already matched up the registry settings with the original X2, but it didn't do anything.
The keys I matched up were:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Power
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SysteCurrentControlSet\Control\Power
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Backlight
Also, I can only get the screen/backlight to turn off under two circumstances: on a reboot or if I go into the Backlight settings and turn on the "Turn on backlight when a button is pressed or screen is tapped" option, and then turn it off again - and I would have to do this every time I want to turn off the backlight. If I have the "Turn off device after: _ mins." option checked in the power options, the screen would wake when it reaches the timer to go into standby. So it seems calling the suspend function wakes the screen but doesn't suspend the device afterward.
So any advices?
Since it's a proto, I can't hard reset or clear the system memory. I also can't ask the person who gave me the phone since he's not really a techie and I don't know where he go it.
