This is furstrating...I have a Tytn and I can't figure out how you quit games (most don't have access to game menu once you start playing). normally it wounldn't be a problem but there are lots of games that I own that don't have a game over screen (like majong, gameplay keeps going for a long time). I can't figure out how you quit/force quit.
Please!
Do you read the URL? XDA-DEVELOPERS
Its not "Games-on-PPC-I-want-to-play.com"
don't you think this is related? I mean my friend was able to quite a game by pressing some button accidentally but we couldn't reproduce it...this is about the tytn hardware design (buttons), not about actual games, get it??
You post is far to vague for anyone to give you an answer.
All the games I have installed (that are full screen) DO have access to an in-game menu with a quit option. Sounds like you either aren't looking hard enough, or have some very poorly coded games.
this is what i do for most games...
1. windows button
2. select today screen
3. windows button
4. select settings
5. select system tab
6. select memory
7. select running programs tab
8. select the game you want to close
9. click stop
1 step : sell htc tytn
2 step : buy nokia 1100
3 step : buy playstation 2
4 step : realize that u are 2 lazy to own a tytn

Hi has anyone used Scumm VM with their Universal? I've run into a few problems.
If I use the latest version 8.0 every game I run crashes out with an audio error after 2 or 3 seconds of gameplay.
If i go back and try 7.1 The game runs ok the first time then when I run it the second time I get an error in the config file, and I have to softreset the device. This also cause a second problem where I can no longer see the clock in the title bar at all, and half of the signal strength indicator is covered up by blank space. Anyone know how to fix this and get Scumm VM working properly? Thanks
It works for me, but if I save or load a game, the bottom icons disappear - apprently you double click the top of the screen to get the icons back, that's my only problem so far, apart from forgetting how I solved Monkey Island 2 and Fate of Atlantis....
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1346241 for a REAL tutorial on ScummVM.
Dungeon Master for the Pocket
Heard alot about old games, guess nobody remembers great games like "Dungeon Master" or Choas Strikes Back" from FTL,damn I remember Playing those games way into the Morning,Yep those where the Good Times, well now I found those 2 games again as clones & Freeware, check it out:

How I got psx4droid working on my htc desire hd..
I know there are already guides for this but I found them a bit confusing, so heres how I done/do it.
1. download psx4droid from market
2. download rombuddy from market
3. download astro from market
4. in astro create a folder called “..playstaytion games” in sdcard (I put the two dots in front to put it to the top of the list so it makes it easier to find later)
5. on your pc search the interwebnet for scph1001.bin, download this file and save it to the dektop so its also easy to find.
6. Connect your phone to your pc and save the scph1001.bin file to sdcard/psxoid (cant remember if I created this folder or if it came with the psx4droid app, if its not there then create the folder using astro in sdcard)
7. go into psx4droid app and make the scph1001.bin file your bios.
8. use rombuddy (with wifi) to download one of the many games listed, eg “driver-you are the wheel man”, click download (this takes about 20 mins so be patient) ive also found some games havnt worked.
9. Once its downloaded use astro and go to sdcard/roms/psx- there you will find your new game (one is a brown box which Is zipped and one is a white rectangle which is unzipped and ready to go)
10. press and hold the unzipped file, click edit then move. (these dont have to be moved but i do it to keep them together) you can also delete the zipped (brown box) file as it is no longer needed.
11. Now go back to your ..playstation games folder, open it, press menu, edit, paste.
12. Now your game should be ready to play, all you do to play is open astro find the ..playstation games folder click your game then click psx4droid in the pop-up menu and play.
hope this helps, like i said im a novice so might have missed bits or done things backwards but it works for me.
thanks
A fine post. Thanks for sharing with us fellow XDA members who've dreamed about psx4droid but haven't actually got round to trying it out, this eases it for me
I had no problems installing psxdroid, but it runs with a low framerate, at least RE nemesis on my dhd..

Agreed but it seems to run smoother on other android devices over the DHD, get a steady 30+ FPS but the picture still seems to stutter.
I managed to install the whole thing by downloading the files via the web browser on the phone, so you can cancel out the connecting it to PC part of the tutorial .
Good job putting up a guide however, I'm sure it will help someone along the way!

yeah i suppose downloading the bios file via phone rether than pc would make no difference but thats just how i done it.
ive found that tony hawks pro skater 4 isnt too bad to play but dave mirra bmx and street fighter have been very slow. any tips for speeding them up?
thanks
I got some extra FPS by playing with the settings such as frame skip, disabling sound and refresh rate on high usage games such as MGS and FF7.
Sigh...I miss the days of FPSECE on the HD2...oh well, i'm sure the DHD should be able to work faster, my HD2 used to get a steady 60fps on Spyro 3 without any stuttering...it was heaven I tell you! Overclocking the Desire HD to 1.3ghz while playing should help quite a bit. I don't know what else, though. Unless killing background processes, and the like. I don't understand how the HD2 could outperform the DHD...unless it's bad software code optimisation and the OS causing performance issues...
It helps, when setting max refreshrate to 30 or 40 fps, when games stutter.
Why its so slow? dunno, bad coding i think!
it work well on my DHD
Desire HD problems
All games seem to run slow on my DHD. The fps is usually around 50-60 but it just seems to run so sluggishly, it makes all games unplayable. I have tried messing around with the various different settings and killing every program but PSX4droid but it seems not have no effect on the performance. Has anyone got any solution at all?
Thanks,
Ok so I was getting fed up with most of my favourite games not working these being the likes of Can Knockdown 1&2, Hungry MonstR < AMAZING!!!, Guerrilla Bob < AMAZING TOO and Qbism HD, etc...
The problem was that they where just going to the loading screen and playing music and either taking eternities to load or just crashing after a long wait.
What to do?
So if any games do this just press the power button to sleep screen and then press it again to wake, now the game works
I know this is something simple that most advanced users or even noob users know to do but for others that don't know this it's for you!
Guide lol

***Also if this is a repost of some kind just delete it as I did a search and couldn't find anything.***
it actually works, I tried this with guerrilla bob... NICE
Does it work with Reckless Racing (full)?
for can knockdown, i open it, once the title screen comes up, press home, and go back into the program and it's at the main menu.
Hi all im new to the forum and have a few questions about rooting my xperia play and wondered if some of you in the know could help?...
im interested in using gingerbreak v1.20 to do the root, i have read the tutorial and understand most of it and from what i have read on the forums other XP users have had varied success.
my questions are...
1. my phone is on a vodaphone contract and im not sure if its sim locked (to that specific network) and does this effect the root?
2. my phone had some kind of update downloaded to its software from vodaphone about 1 week ago gingerbread 2.3.2 build number 3.0.A.2.184 other people with this version root ok?
3. so just to clarify i was wondering if that update ive had has hindered my chances of the rooting also if my phone being locked to a specific network (e.g vodaphone) is a problem?
4. last but not least, if my phone fails to reboot after the rooting process, how hard is it to put it back to original version? (like do i need more software to fix the failure or can i just remove the battery wait 30secs and itll be back to normal)?
i know these may seem very basic questions to u veteran rooters, but id like to get involved i just wanna have more knowledge myself before i jump in, and would appreciate your feedback, loving my xperia play and i want to improve it and not brick it
cheers in advance
I am with tmobile and also received the ota update before I rooted.
SIM lock doesn't effect root.
I can tell you that the update won't effect running Gingerbreak at all.
You shouldn't have any worries using Gingerbreak as is.
It is purely an apk and will either successfully root your device or will not.
This is the easiest method of rooting i've ever used.
I was an android n00b when I got my hero & had to go through the method of creating a gold card & reverting to an older build & flashing flashrec!
To be honest, now my play is rooted in probably won't even bother using custom roms in the future.
I did all that with my hero and am happy with the plays UI.
I just wanted root to free up more space.
I'd also recommend researching setinstalllocation2 on here.
Doing this natively installs everything to sd and is worth the time.
cheers for the speedy reply DeadlyDazza, yeah id like to remove some of the stock rubbish to free up some space i was also hoping to do a small overclock, is this possible with a basic root? using the android overclocking apps?
im still nervous about the reboot and it not coming back on :S
@DeadlyDazza did you use gingerbreak on an empty/formatted sd card like described in the tutorial or does it also work with a sd full of installed apps? ( i really dont want to delete all my apps and data)
cheers covux
I have a fair bit of installing custom Roms on Android phones and i can honestly say this -
Unless you are rooting the phone in order to help develop custom roms and tweaks there really is no point in rooting it at the current moment.
Gingerbread is excellent at managing apps and the Xperia Play is designed so that games run independently from your homescreen.
"Trimming the fat" will offer almost zero benefit at the moment.
My advice is to wait a while, let the experts put together some custom Roms and gain access to the Kernel, allowing us to overclock.
Until then, i do not see a reason to root at all.
Unless you just, like me, wants to get rid of bloatware and ads in various apps and other benefits with root access
+1 on liking the XP UI and don't want to flash and mod this phone as I did with my HTC desire hd
If you just want that, root it now and keep your locked bootloader and enjoy the XP as it is
Regards Dousan...
Rooting does have many benefits, which mine was to free up more space on a device that, although is designed for gamers, seems to fall very short of.
Also to use root enabled apps such as cache mate.
Apart from the space issues, which have now been resolved by rooting & setinstalllocation2, I'm more than happy with my Xperia Play.
Will I be saying the same in 6 months? Probably not, I'll probably be wanting a fresher feel.
But that depends on how much support SE give the Play (my last device was the Hero & HTC was very slow with their support).
In answer to the question about running Gingerbreak with blank sd.
I had a spare 8gig that I formatted & used.
I didn't want to risk losing any data & couldn't be bothered to back up the 14gig on my card.
Although I have heard a few people say that running Gingerbreak is completely safe & won't erase any data.
Didn't erase anything on my sdcard when I rooted my XP, would still recommend a backup before using gingerbreak I was just lazy and went ahead without doing a backup. Did one today...
Regards Dousan...
@DeadlyDazza, @Dousan thanks for the info, i think i will also use a spare blank sd.

How exactly?
Whenever I navigate home away from a running game (such as to check a text) my XP shuts down the game.

I read in one of the reviews/specs for the phone that the homescreen and gaming operate independently meaning that when you play games, the homescreen sits in another part of memory or works in another processing thread or something.
The point being made was that whatever app you have open in the homescreen, won't make your games stutter or lag when you are playing them.
Maybe an expert can clarify this.
As for your problem, i can say that something is wrong with your setup for your games to be unloaded out of memory and shutdown when you navigate to the homescreen.
I would imagine you have an appkiller that is setup to close all running apps when you navigate to the homescreen.
I can't stress the importance of not using app killers with the gingerbread o/s. They are not needed, they will not improve performance of the phone, they will not make you battery last longer.
In fact, app killers will make your battery last SHORTER on gingerbread, since you will be using alot more processing power to load and unload them.
I don't use any app-killers.
Do you navigate to your homescreen with the back button, the home button or holding the home button and selecting a new icon?
Ok I have just performed 3 tests.
1) Emulator test - had tiger genesis running playing sonic 2. Hit the home button and navigated instantly to home screen. Tiger genesis happily sits in the notification bar. Navigating back to tiger genesis sees it exactly as before I left it.
2) Playstation pocket game crash bandicoot - loaded the game and hit the hom
e key. Same as above. The game sits in the notification bar and returns to the exact state you left it in when you return back to it.
3) Xperia play game Backstab - loaded the game and hit the home key. The game did not sit in they notification bar, but reselecting the game from the xperia play menu put the game onscreen at the exact position I left it from.
I can not re-create your situation where navigating to the homescreen makes the game unload from memory.
I made his post on my xperia play btw and performed each test while making this post. My browser doesn' t even unload from memory.

Usually just by tapping the home button. I only hold home for hotswitching & only navigate back to quit.

So does it only happen with a certain game? All games?
What about apps?
I find it hard to believe that hitting the home key unloads anything from memory unless you have changed some major settings.
Using Xperia Play games.
If I go to home when playing or paused the game unloads.
Not changed any settings at all.

Ok try this and tell me what happens.
- Slide the phone open
- Load Bruce Lee
- Get into an actual fight
- Hit the home key
- Slide the phone down
- Slide the phone up
- Load Bruce Lee
After doing this, my game has paused, but is exactly where i left it. The game did not unload, and therefore did not reload. It was exactly as i left it.
If yours does not do the same, and you havn't changed any settings or are running any app killers, then i suggest you make sure you have the latest revision of firmware and try again.
Bruce Lee stays in memory ok.
Star Battalion & Dungeon Defenders quit as soon as you hit home.

I can confirm that Star Battalion stays in memory after i hit the home screen on my phone.
It shows identical behaviour as Bruce Lee.
When you hit home, and reload the game, the game has paused itself and when you unpause, the game is exaclty as when you left it.
Can't confirm Dungeon Defenders behavious since i do not own it.
If you continue experiencing problems, i would suggest you have faulty memory and request a handset replacement.
I notice my firestick make a tiny video playback glitch probably every 4 or 5 seconds. You have to look but it is there and most noticeable on moving scenes. I have Comcast blast 75 and stick connected to 5ghz WiFi which per my phone is 30-40 mbps.
Kodi was previously installed when purchased and settings show 2gb free. Sometimes movies buffer, I let download prior to watching to see if it would help the a I've glitch but it didn't.

Happens on mine too, but I do my best to ignore it. It happened on a few other devices I've run it on as well. Wish I could help, but at least you know you're not alone.
Fire sticks tend to skip, freeze more then fire tv's . Have you cleared cache ? also try a different source or lower quality . Also, sometime when my kids are on youtube, and playing on steam or xbox or whatever, sometimes i get choked up, and I have 150/150 fios .
I haven't cleared the cache, thank you glad to know just not me. I'll try the cache, would removing add ons I don't need help any?

I found out a while ago (from XDA) that it has 1GB RAM but 512mb is reserved for the GPU meaning it only really has 512mb to play around with.
I run a AFTVG1 downstairs and AFTVS upstairs running the same skin setup, SQL connections and shared resources.
The G1 runs perfectly on the 2GB but the AFTVS just cant cope.
Even using Confluence and very few addons, even on full factory reset and base Kodi install I can easily drop to 20MB free RAM and watch Kodi grind to a halt.
A lot of it is the Amazon crap running in the background draining resources and nothing to do with your WiFi or net speed (I'm 200mb cable).
If I hadnt had got it for £19 it would have gone back and replaced with something like a RiPi2 or spent a little bit more and got a cheap crappy Android TV box, they would run a lot better than the AFTVS!
Buffer FIX
Buffering sucks, but guess what? I have a fix for you!
Install ares wizard.
go to system, file manager, then go to add source on left pane.
press NONE
type in exactly:
http://www.areswizard.co.uk/zip/
then go press done.
Choose name for media then select done and press ok.
Go back to main menu bar and press SYSTEM
go down to addons
install from zip file
then select the one you named.
Then select the ares wizard script .26 at this time
If you get errors, go into repo folder and select ares project then go into modules folder and select both. you will see the addons becoming enabled.
Then final select the script again.
Then go to programs from main menu
select ares wizard
let it load, you may need to force close a few times (kodi)
Then when go in to programs and launch it
then go to tweaks
select advanced settings
click next, generate settings, then apply settings buttons. It will tell you to restart kodi
R\Force close kodi
then BAM no more buffering! You can also install custom kodi builds with this puppy

what this wizard does is create an xml to adjust your available RAM and use it towards kodi. This is not another zero cache program. This wizard has custom builds you can install as well. I suggest looking into it
