1. When i put Colline theme i get really messy main screen (picasso-like cubics, colors). When i go to start menu everything is ok. when i back on the main screen, it happens again.
2. how its possible to put folders like in main memory. i would like to install programs in Program Files but it always install in root folder and now i have hundreds of folders.
Also in My Documents. I have no Picture or Photo folder. Every day another one.
This is not the case in Smartphones (2002,2003,2003se) automatically when you insert SD Card you get all of these folders.
3. i forgot...

Hi,
I'm eagerly waiting for my X1 (2 month wait ) and I have already bought a 16 gig sd card to put music and bits on.
So I can transfer my music over can someone tell me the folder names/structure for the memory card so I can create the right folders and not waste my time.
Thanks
You can create whatever folders you like. Everything is up to the user.
I would advise to make a Program Files folder though. Although the first app you install on the storage card should create one for itself, you never know.
I suggest you make the following folders:
-Music: For your MP3s and stuff
-Pictures: For your pitures. Note that the camera will put the pictures in /DCIM/100XPRIA. Haven't found a way to remap this... (That actually works).
-Software: CAB-Files for all your software so you have them whenever you need them. Make sure you get CAB-Files of the software you're using, not ActiveSync installers that have to be run on your PC.
-Notes: It is intelligent to have Windows store your Notes on the MicroSD card. You have to make this setting manually.
-Movies: For your movies if you intend to watch them
More folders will be created automatically, such as the programs folder mentioned by orelsi, 2 folders for Windows Media Player and Inboxfolder (If you choose to store Emails on the storage card). Notice that if you plan to use a navigation software, it will most likely create a folder in the storage card root. Sometimes even multiple folders. I think TomTom quite sucks regarding this. So in order to keep your "real" files apart from any Settings/Navigation Maps/etc, you may want to create a folder named Files or something, that holds all of the folders in the list above. This makes administration of your files a lot easier but it can slow down access times because you always have to go to storage card, then choose the folder, then choose the category and then the file. Of course this depends on your setup. You can easily create a direct shortcut to that subfolder.
One more thing: Regularily check your MicroSD card with Windows for faults. I find there are problems with this quite often and you can lose data easily.
Cheers Guys
hello everybody,
i am searching here for a while and couldn´t find any helpful webpage or forum thread here that shows me, where are the standard folders located ( registry settings ) in WM6.5 or in special for the HTC HD2.
i would like to re-arrange any folder for media files ( ringtones, mp3-music, videos, documents, ebook and so on....)
to an easier structure in \\storage card and saving memory/space in mydevice
for that reason i´d like to know where are folders for what reason of standard-copy paths in \\mydevice and \\storagecard to erase un-needed things and avoid duplicating
the goal is to have easier folders to locate files
like
\\strorage card\Pictures
\\strorage card\Videos
\\strorage card\Music
\\strorage card\Ringtones
\\strorage card\Documents
and make sure that standard applications use that new paths for managing
i think i am not the only person who is interested in that, otherwise sorry for disturbing
thank you
PS
Everything you mentioned happened to be under \\My Documents. They are part of file sync to Windows.
It is a bad idea to place ring tones on SD card. It probably won't work.
thanks for that info.
that was indeed my intention also to change ringtones to storagecard. i am aware that didnt´ work , but with changing reg-keys maybe..any idea where they are ?
Yeah, don't put anything on the storage card that your device might need at any given time. Even if you never remove your card, it won't always be available when needed. For instance, when your device wakes up from an incoming phone call, it can't access the storage card right away since it may take a moment to activate the reader. Therefore it might not be able to use a ringtone stored there.
For the same reason, I wouldn't redirect the "standard" locations to the storage card through a registry change if I were you. You never know how the device will react if it wakes up and doesn't find its "My Documents" folder right away.
Other than that, it doesn't really matter where you put your media files: most of the built-in applications look for them everywhere. So if you want to save internal storage space, you can move most media stuff to your storage card without redirecting the default folders.
For music, I'd say go for "\\strorage card\Music", since that's where music files are automatically stored when you sync with Windows Media Player on the desktop.
For pictures, you might want to use "\\strorage card\DCIM\100MEDIA", since that's where the camera puts new photo's; but "\\strorage card\Pictures" will work just as well. HTC Album will pick up pics anywhere you put them. You can even choose which folder to display in the Sense tab. From the Sense tab, just go to > "Album" > "Albums", pick the one you want, then > "Menu" > "Set as favorite".
As you can see, these will work without redirecting the default folders to your storage card. If, however, you want to try anyway and don't mind the risk of experimenting, the content of this registry key looks promising:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Explorer\Shell Folders
Good luck!
If you want to change the location where the camera stores new pics, you might want to look at this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/Pictures/Camera/OEM/PictureLocation
But again: I haven't tried this, so use at your own risk!

what is the best way to organize your memory card
how to name your folders fro easier navigation and so they show up in phone's apps by default.
like picture and video folders .
and what are default HD2 folders?
please all yaalll show your folder structure on the card how it is setup.
heres what i have.
audio
books
DCIM
documents
downloads
ebooks
manuals
my documents
program files
videos
zero ( unsorted folder) zero is to make it last in line.
Mine is almost identical to yours (I call "audio" music, and only have an "ebooks" folder).
The only one I have extra is one called "Cabs", which I generally strip out an dput on my PC every couple of months, but until then it's a respository of ones I've tried and liked since my last ROM flash.
I also keep all unsorted files (and also videos) in the root of the drive, but I may start being more organised, and have a "z_More" folder too
ALLWAYSON - for programs that dont need to be installed, like notepad.exe, my provxml files, sendandrecieveall.exe, GPRSEnabler/disabler, googlemaps (I use teh 'fake google maps'using VJBrisk tweak in my rom to allow google maps to run from there, and so not need reinstalling every time i hard reset)
Programs in this folder have hardcoded quicklinks cooked into my ROM to them.
AUTOINSTALL - all my most used cabs live in there, and the cooked roms auto install them whenever i hard reset. Things like resco, opera, MYTWEAKS.cab
CABSTORE - for cabs that i want to have with me, but dont always need to have installed
DCIM - default images folder
INCOMING - my registry tweaks (MYTWEAKS.CAB) point opera and bluetooth to download everything to this folder.
MUSIC - pretty self explanatory
PROGRAM FILES - again, says it all in the name
SCRAP - like a temp folder, i empty it weekly or so.
where does winmo store its wallpapers?
its hella annoying to go thru the whole folder sequence every tie you close the album since thres no back button from full screen preview.
im mostly trying to figure out how to store images and where
i setup my wallpapers by size(480x800 folder name)
when i tried to use that folder as a default for my wallpapers from cht it shows blank album with no pictures...
hi, i've just got my iconia and I am also new on the Android world. A couple of things I've noticed about the external SD card that maybe somebody could help me to understand.
1.- when I hook my tablet to my windows 7 laptop, I get to see the internal memory on the win explorer but not the external card, so is this normal or do I have to look for more updated drivers on my PC?
2.- with the external SD card on I get to see my files on an android file manager and I get to open any file individually by getting the "select app for opening this file", but this is time consuming so I am wondering if my stock lumiread, gallery, multimedia player have the current limitation of only reading the content from the internal memory. If so, what free alternatives do I have to replace stock apps?
A couple of answers
First, if you install File Manager HD, you won't need to tether your Iconia to your laptop any more. In the app, open the 'menu' and touch 'LAN Connections'. Your Windows PC will show up as an IP address. Make sure to change the IP Address to a computer name (long press, rename) so that next time File Manager won't have to search for it every time. You will be able to transfer anything on the tab to the 'Public' folder on the PC, and vice versa. Depending on what folders are shared on the PC, you will be able to access more on the PC.
I keep my music on my external SD card in a folder named 'My Music'. The stock music/multimedia players found them with no problem.
I haven't tried moving any books for Lumiread to the external SD card, so all I can suggest is to look at the file structure and duplicate it on the ext SD card, copy a book into it (a new one, or move an existing one) and see if it finds it. I don't see anything within the app to set search/storage directories, but maybe it will scan everything like the music apps do.
Have fun with you new Tab. The more you play with it the more you will understand Honeycomb and it won't seem so foreign to you. It does pretty much everything every other OS does, just a little different way.
Kp
Thanks Ken, I downloaded FMHD and will try it soon. I also though about reproducing the lumiread folder on the ext sd card but no luck, so probably a future update on the app will fix that. I tried this as well copying the pictures folder (and also renaming it as 'My Pictures') but the stock gallery just won't see the image files, is there any chance you could see if you get the same results? I have not tried yet on the music stock app. Again, thanks for your help, it is great to find nice people on the web with similar tech passions as I do
Hello Ken, like that app. Wondering if it would be an easy way to tether to my HTC Evo? Thanks in advance for you thoughts.

I use Quickpic from the Market (free) since it lets you choose which drives/directories to scan.
Here is what you do.
1. Create the My Pics directory on the External SD card with File Manager HD, put a few pics in it.
2. After installing Quickpic, start the app. It will display everything it finds on the internal SD Card.
3. Touch the Menu button from the main screen.
4. Choose SETTINGS-INCLUDED FOLDERS-ADD
5. Tap the double dots at the top of the list, it will display all the memory devices attached.
6. Tap EXTERNAL_SD. All directories on the card will be displayed. Press OK.
Now press the 'back' button and you will see your pics that are anywhere on the External SD card.
All I did to get the A500 music player to find the music on the External SD card was run the NemoPlayer app and open the music. Once I did that the regular music app found them, too.
Have fun!

Don't quote me on this, but I don't think so. From what I have seen and heard so far it is only connecting to Windows shares. I don't have an Android phone to test with, so can't swear to it, but I know it doesn't see an iPhone, so likely won't see a Mac either.
Anyone else been able to connect to anything but a Windows share? Let us know if you have, and what app you used please.
Ok the issue im having is all my pics are together. All I iwant to do is organize them with folders. For example. I want to make a folder just for Family Pics. I also want to make a folder where I just put my friend pics in. Right now im running File Commander. It came loaded in the phone when I got it. I can go right to the picture button and all my pics are right there. But why cant I create folders to organize them. Its so simple. I can rename pics and do almost anything else except put them in seprate folders. Does file Commander not have this feature? Do I have to download a different program that stores all the files (sorry i dont know what you call the file commander program) All I want to do is organize my photos and put them in the proper folders so they are easier to find.
I am very new to this so please explain it clear and simple.
Download Quickpic. Much better and easier.

It's now also possible using the latest Sony Album app (7.0+), as stated in talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Album/creating-folders-for-photos/m-p/946641#M1515.
In Album --> Folders select one or more pictures from a gallery and choose 'move to' in the options menu. You can select either an existing or a new folder as destination.
