8525 Internet via Wi-Fi? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I cannot for the life of me find any clear-cut instructions on how to setup the 8525 to use Wi-Fi for Internet instead of GPRS/3G if a Wi-Fi connection has been established. I've been able to connect to my Wi-Fi router but when I try to go to a website it still tries to connect to GPRS/Edge/3G! Help!

When I want to connect to wifi, I use connection manager to connect to wifi, then disconnect, and then reconnect, and for some reason this works.
Otherwise I get the same problem as you do.
Hope this works for you.

WiFi and GPRS frustration

I have a belkin router. It works well with several laptops.
I can connect to it with my JASJAR and get an IP address.
If I sync pop3 email it uses WIFI and works as expected.
If I sync journal bar it uses WIFI and works as expected.
However if I try to use internet explorer it alway tries to start a GPRS session and refuses to work through WIFI. Why??
Ive sent hours trying every setting I can find.
Anyone have any suggestions? :?:

At least your Wifi network doesn't crash as soon as u connect the JJ. Mine doesn't even get that far...
Anyone who can help???
Hmmm I wonder if this is something in the Telstra settings Cab.
Re those having problems all on Telstra?
Might try a hard re set and then manually build the settings.

Try de activating the phone. this allows you to use IE via your wireless router.
Tried that, thanks.
I just get the "Cannot Connect" message and if I dismiss it. Nothing!
However I can sync the weather without getting the "Cannot Connect" box. SO the WiFi is working, its just that Explorer can see it.
Im running the O2 UK firmware and it works fine (auto gives prefernce to the WiFi if I am in range, try loading on the genuine Imate firmware.

I know how you feel. I can't get wifi to work. Heck, I can't even use IE when synced to the computer via USB
Have you tried messing with the settings in start/settings/connections/connections?
I finally got it working.
You have to chose the "Telstra Internet" setting in Network Managment.
Its in Settings, Connections, Advanced, Select Networks, select "Telstra Internet".
I then did, Settings, Connections, Manage existing connections, Modem, and set it to "Auto"
It uses the WiFi first and then only uses GPRS if there is no WiFi.
Hope this helps someone else !

Can anyone help me with just getting my JJ connected to the wifi network without crashing the router?
Have you tried turning off any encryption etc and re booting the router.
Then try to connect at the most basic level?
Now I'm totally confused
I don't know what is going on!
I have finally managed to use IE via Activesync, using "Telstra Internet" as my My network connects to...
I tried again to hook up to the wifi network. The router is connected to my desktop via a physical cable, and my tablet pC is connected wirelessly (my JJ syncs with the tablet). I turned to tablet off, and then connected the JJ to the desktop wirelessly. On the desktop, I am no longer able to connect to the internet, but for some reason, the JJ is able to connect to the internet
But, even if I disconnect the JJ from the network, my desktop is unable to connect back to the internet until I reboot the router. What does this all mean????
I have the same issue with my MDA Pro! i done even have the sutp option in the modem settings. I can connect to my belkin router with encryption but no response when in IE!
Anyone else got any other suggestions?
I'm beginning to think that nobody has a solution to such connection problems. Is there any hope on the horizon? Any chance of something being sorted out by MS?
BTW, how well does BT syncing/internet connection work?
Ok frustration rising.
I can connect to my Belkin wireless router with no problems but I can only log onto the router and not browse the internet!
I have checked that the proxy is not configured.
Anyone got any ideas?
Nope

Choose Intelligently between Wifi, USB, or GPRS

I have a problem where I have my Prophet connected via USB to my computer, which in turn has a broadband connection. It can connect just fine through this connection, but I have remove my MEdia Net (cingular) from drop down choice in my Connection Settings page. But then when USB isn't connected, I have to go back and choose MEdia Net on drop down choice for internet so it will connect to GPRS. When connected via Wifi, I don't have this problem. It seems to automatically see that the Wifi is on and so connects to internet via this, instead of GPRS. How can I do it so that there's this intelligent choosing of USB over GPRS, that way it'll only connect via GPRS when there's no Wifi or USB.

How to connect internet through wi-fi only

Hello,
Is there any step by step on how to connect the internet using the wi-fi feature only and not the gprs.
I've got a cingular 8525 and I've tried all sorts of configurations to make the internet work but no matter I do every time I open the internet explorer to browse internet it tries to connect through GPRS.
How can I set up my phone to use wi-fi only and not gprs?
thanks,
Moscou
settings->connections->connections->advance
choose my network rather then my isp in both the dropdown box's
It didn't work! Any other clue?
donno to see if it's a connection setting then if you are sync'd with bluetooth to activesync it should use the network of the pc it's sync'd with
Don't know if this helps but I use the NODATA application to disable ISP and GRS so by default it always tries to connect to wifi.

HW 6915 WiFi

Hi, I have 'problem' with my HP... I can't make it to connect via WiFi. So, I'm in a place where's WiFi signal very strong, but still, when I run Internet Explorer, phone starts GPRS, not WiFI. I have not found any options to select 'primary' connection? Where I can 'tell' him to connect via WiFi? Small problem but makes me angry!!!
Please, help
just turn on wifi first, then open the browser and your done.

Help
Seems you have no internet connection on WiFi.
Maybe you need to sign in into the network? If not, try to forget the connection and try again to connect.
Means you're connected to the Wi-Fi router, but there's no Internet connection
