Avantgo Problems - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

I dunno how many of you use avantgo but I've been a user of it since my first PDA ... it's pretty good for kill-time reading.
Anyways, I recently upgraded from Avantgo 3.3 to 6.2 ... and in hindsight I should've never done that because it's been a nightmare.
First of all, Avantgo 6.2 doesn't support automatic content refresh anymore via ActiveSync. You have to open the Avantgo application and click 'sync' to refresh the content. That's a hassle.
Second of all, refreshing takes FOREVER. You'd think newer software = improved performance. The same content that could be refreshed over ~ 2 min in the past now takes over 1 hour. I'm not kidding. It's ridiculous.
Since then I've gone back to Avantgo 6.0, which was the last release that supported content refresh via ActiveSync ... or so it says. After going back to 6.0, while the AvantgoConnect thing is in the ActiveSync profile, for whatever reason I cannot add a server setting on the PC. As a result, I still have to open Avantgo from my device to sync it.
And syncing takes just as long ... I'm really tempted to go back to Avantgo 3.8 ... supposingly avantgo no longer 'supports' 3.8 but then again, they never got back to me on my problems with 6.0 so not like I'm getting any support with the newer version anyways.
And the AvantgoClient, which BTW is an even WORSE browser than IE Mobile, takes up like 5MB as well ... at least I can install it on my memory card.
So just wondering if any of you have the same problem with Avantgo ... are yours just as slow? Is there any way to speed it up? And any of you have the same sync problem?
Thanks,

Hi, i have absolut the same problems than you, it looks to me like Avantgo is trying to kill the free connections to get more Premium.
Bad way to get more clients from Avantgo

Avandgo
Hi I Also had isues with avantgo I had a premium but a free has enough for me to read. Switching down was troublesom.
Now i use the avantgo.WinCE_ARM_300.CAB
and that dous the trick pritty much. Did have some big troubles because of the cable krack witch blokked the connection to US from here (Shanghai) but these days it is resonable fast.
But i do agree it is troublesome most of the time it is coused by the Avantgo server why i didn't dear to waist my time on that.
If you want the CAB give me a PB and i email it 1.8 MB

I am using latest version 6.2 and I have no problems so far. It is quick, also the refreshing of channels is very fast.
Because I used to dock my Magician a couple of times a day, I ran out of Avantgo traffic. I would not be allowed to download until next day.
So what seems to be a downside for some, the manual starting of syncing Avantgo, turns into a plus for me.
BUT BEWARE: I tried to install AvantGO 6.2 into Storage area or Storage Card. I got weird results. Syncing channels would abort near end with error, leaving no start page anymore.
The problem was that actually it only works in main memory. Then it is fast, and syncing always works. I wrote to AvantoGo support and they told me that its not supported to be installed anywhere else but main memory...
For my 4 channels with 1,5MB i am happy now...

Well I reinstalled Avantgo 6.0 on the main memory and it is A LOT faster now ... so the problem with it was it was installed on storage memory ... which is funny, cos Avantgo 3.3 didn't have any problem storing the content on storage memory, and it didn't slow it down.
However, I still can't get Avantgo 6.0 to work via my activesync ... it might because I have a rather old version of activesync (3.8) and can't upgrade because I don't have admin rights on my work computer here ...
So for now, it's 1 more step every morning ... when I plug in the cable, I also have to go into Avantgo and click 'sync'.

Thanks for the tip about installing Avantgo into the main memory. But is there any way to have the info stored in the storage card? Main memory is a scarce resource for my D810...

Your best bet at this point is to do a hard reset, wipe everything, and then reinstall NOTHING for a day and see how the phone works. Not 15 minutes or an hour, a day. If it seems ok, try overclocking again if you really think you need it. Again, install NOTHING else and let it go for a day and see if overclocking kills it. If not, start installing software, one by one, and see how the phone reacts to each. Don't install a dozen and play with them, install one at a time, check it out, do stuff with it, see how everything reacts before installing the next one. And finally, the today screen crap sucks up tons of memory and CPU time and leaks like a sieve. Get rid of it.
Sounds like some pretty good advice. Having all of those programs installed will surely create some type of conflicts within the OS.
when I first got my K-Jam, I installed all the plugins and apps I had on my last PPC. I found within a day or so my K-Jam would simply reboot itself whether I was touching it or not. And it did it a LOT!
I did a hard reset and ran it that way for a couple days and it was an amazing phone. I then only installed a couple apps at a time. I eventually found it was a today plugin that was causing my problems.
I haven't had a single problem since then. I'm betting it's one of the *MANY* apps you have installed.

I agree with markgamber, to do a hard reset and run it clean for a while. Rather than blame the phone, perhaps the issues lie with the storage card.
Also, some apps don't like to run from the storage card, as I had a similar same problem with PocketMusic installed on the card. It was flakey, getting worse by the day, and after a hard-reset and reinstall this time on the device it runs fine (so far).
I just installed iGuidance v3 but put the app on the device with maps on the card. It runs fine so far.
After verifying the phone is working okay without third-party software, install iGuidance on the device (maps on card, of course) and give it a try. If you still have trouble, try replacing the card.
[Duplicated message. Wish you could delete messages!]
if you on 02 get rid of the o2 active rubbish itll run a lot better
Oh yeah....one last thing since I see you're running 2.17....get rid of that tweaks rubbish. I run 2.17 and it works great just as it is. All you're going to do by "tweaking" it is destablize it for what probably amounts to an imperceptable performance gain. I'd also recommend dumping the overclock bit, too. If you get rid of all that today screen junk, you will probably find that real apps run just fine without having to resort to tricks like overclocking.

Yahoo GO - Memory Leak?

I've been using Yahoo Go for Email/Contacts/Task/Calender/Photo retrieval and syncing between my Yahoo account and my TyTn. It's great mainly because it supports email folder access/syncing with my Yahoo Email account using the native WM5 mail client.
The issue i'm having is that it seems like the yconnections.exe program that is the guts of the thing seems like it has a memory leak or something. If I softboot my phone, yconnections.exe uses approx 430k of memory and the heap size is 150k, assuming the values are in KB, as per SKTools.
Note: Other (native WM5) programs also seem to use more and more memory as time goes on (gwes.exe, filesys.exe, etc) and i'm not sure if this is normal also?
Over a day or so the memory and heap size can increase dramatically (many MB's), to the point where there is so little free memory that a WM5 dialog box will pop up warning me of low memory and asking me to close applications to free up memory. At this point, I usually need to softboot.
Anyone have a similar experience or can explain whats happening? Also, can anyone explain the difference between "size" and "heap" as it relates to SKTools process information?
Thanks,
C
I can confirm the memory leak... I was attributing the leak to Active Sync till I installed a free task manager.
The Yahoo go application runs in the background and fetches emails on a user defined frequency.
I noticed that the application keeps increasing in size/footprint while active and the free memory on my phone goes from ~19 MB post install to less than ~4 MB within a couple (usually within 6 to 7 hours) of hours of use.
wow, you're totally right... this thing is leaking memory... is this yahoo's fault or the phones fault.
anyone else have ethis problem?

I don't use that yahoo go, but i have the same problem, even properly shutting down active programs doesn't sort it, when my memory gets low, i delete the 'previously viewed' web content in IE and soft reset, that brings the memory back up. Its a pain in the arse!
I downloaded the task manager (look for it on this forum) and use that to kill Yahoo Go!... so far I haven't needed to soft-reset since yesterday afternoon (usually had to do that every night to keep the phone stable and usable). Additionally, I currently have ~21 MB of free RAM to run my programs in.
I used the IE hack to move all the cache, history and cookie storage to my SD card, that helps a lot when browsing the web.
I also have SPB Pocket Plus installed that kills the programs on close (similar to the HTC close/X program); rather that the windows default behavior to minimize them.
Any one have a fix for the Yahoo Go! memory leak??
This is been a problem for it since it was released for Windows Mobile. I had it on my 8125 and it was terrible. I had to soft reset to actually get it to stop using memory. I haven't used it since.

T-Zones main page & IE Favorites error

Hello,
This is my first post, but I've been a member for several months. Currently, I have the NBD WM6 ROM installed on my Wizard, and have been using it for about a month now with only minor issues. What prompted me to post this was when I went to access http://wap.myvoicestream.com for T-Mobile's T-Zones. It now seems to be some other (non t-mobile) website, and I can't find any information on this (it's actually a re-direct). I can't remember the last time I've accessed the site (maybe about 2 weeks ago). I only really use this as a quick way to look up movie times usually, so it's not a major issue, but thought I'd ask around if anyone knows what happened.
My other problem as that I seem to get the following error when trying to access favorites from PIE: "An error occured while opening Favorites. No program memory available.". I'm pretty sure that it works fine when I first install the ROM or do a hard reset, but I wanted to see if anyone else has this issue.
Note that I have at least 15+ mb Program memory free, and 16+ mb of Storage memory free. Also, I had just recently installed PIE+, but the issue was there before that (I usually use Netfront 4.3, but wanted to tre PIE with PIE+ to try to reduce the number of programs I use).
I'll be happy to list all the software installed if that will help.
Well, you can nevermind about the t-zones website. Seems to be working fine now, but only if I'm connecting when not using ActiveSync (or whatever the Vista version is called). Just disconnected and tried to connected again, and it went to the T-zones main page. Very strange. That could actually be linked with using PIE+, but whatever. So long as it works when I'm out and about.
Still having issues with the PIE Favorites, though.
Regarding to the screenshot you attached: it is not a t-zones problem! You have running memory-eating programs in the background, so, the www application has no available memory left to run the task ...

Yeah, I figured that had nothing to do with t-zones, I was pointing out two different issues (the t-zones being a fluke). Sorry if my posting about two different subjects makes it seem that I'm connecting the two.
As far as memory, here's what I said in my post: "Note that I have at least 15+ mb Program memory free, and 16+ mb of Storage memory free. " But for clarification, I meant that this was the amount of memory available while running PIE - in other words, I ran PIE, then went to settings and checked my memory. And the only things running at the time is PIE or PIE and ActiveSync. That's it. But the error still comes up.
What ROM version are you running? The official 2.26 from the TMO page or another one?
Seems like there is something eating your recources. I know from my own experiences that ActiveSync is a real killer-app when ever it synchronizes.
Also:
a lot of programs just do not show up in the MEMORY. 2 of those 'ghosts' are SPB MOBILE SHELL and also DockWARE. Allthrough this are not killer-apps!
If you have the chance and time back up your whole device and then perform a CLEAR STORAGE. Access t-zones and see how it works. Afterwards start to build back the device by adding a prog and then run t-zones again - this is a loooong but safe way to locate a killer-app on your PPC. When you found the responsible application try to find something similar instead of that particular program ...
I have only 5MB free program memory and no problems running t-zones ...
Just to re-iterate, this is not something tied into t-zones. I can access it just fine on my phone. The error occurs when I try to access the favorites from within PIE. This is what causes the error (well, maybe not causes, but it generates the error). Click "favorites" and you get above error.
Also, as stated in my original post, I'm running the NBD ROM. I know the favorites works on this ROM because I stored some of these favorites when putting my system together.
Also, when you say "eating my resources", I would have to note that it should at lest indicate memory is being eaten up. In other words, it wouldn't show that I have 15mb free, it would show a lot less. Even if a program doesn't show up in task manager and is a "ghost" as you say, it would still take away some of my memory.
Anyway, I'll try your suggestion in reverse - I'll back up my system then uninstall things one at a time and see if that can fix it (and hopefully pinpoint the problem program). I can always restore later. That may not pin point the problem, but I don't have time right now to go through and re-install and configure everything to see what causes the problem.

flash to run TT7? not sure what to do about mem allocation

Hi all.
I've been happily runnning Axel's last ROM since it came out, with no major issues, but just recently decided to install TomTom7 as an upgrade from TT6.
Whilst the app itself was far better, the lag following maps was unbearable. After some research, I've then disabled all but the most essential POIs, and then decided to try and free up some memory on my device (was running with around 26MB free in programs).
However, i then went on a little new software and update mission, (installing everything to the HDSC though), bar a couple of minor very small apps. I uninstalled my Kaiser Home screen and Dialer, updating to the latest B&W Home, and DxC iPhone DIaller 3.5e ("repeat call bug" fixed versions).
Now TomTom7 won't load (insufficient memory)!!
So, I've gone back and:
1. Uninstalled every program I could do without, and also uninstalled any existing programs listed in \Program Files and moved them to the SC.
2. Manually gone through the OS and removed left behind files and folders, and anything deemed not necessary.
3. Ran the (demo version) of SK Tools, clearing all caches etc., and also optimizing for memory.
4. Tried running without any home screen Plugins (i.e. blank start screen!)
4. Researched on here for HOURS trying to find some way to manually reallocate memory between Storage and Programs, as I have tons of Storage memory left!
5. Researched for ways to uninstall programs I may have installed to the Device originally, as uninstall only lists those installed to Storage. Is it possible at all??
After all this, I'm currently sitting after a soft reset, with:
Storage: Total 66.55 Use 30.30 Free 36.25
Programs: Total 48.97 Use 26.93 Free 22-24
I need to either
a. reallocate storage
b. uninstall things i may have accidentally installed to Device (have aready deleted \prog files folders)
c. flash to a completely new lite ROM and reinstall /setup everything
I really don't want to do the last one as in all other respects I'm happy with the device's performance, but if necessary, can someone recommend a very lite, stable WM 6.1 ROM (may as well upgrade to 6.1 if doing it), or as with everything MS does 6.1 eat more space..?
Any suggestions and thoughts on three options, and indeed on how TomTom7 is performing on their device welcome.
NB - my mini 4GB HCSD card is close to full - 160MB free - but surely this has no impact on working memory?
thanks for any responses, I must have spent at least 10 hours trawling through threads with no joy

didn't even know that TT7 is working on thr P3600...
ara you sure that this version is suported?

After a softreset i have 28 mb free ram
but tomtom 7 needs only so max 10 mb free ram.
Deinstall tomtom 7 an remove all your tomtom files from the sd kart and the device (but not the map) do a softreste and install tomtom 7 again.
TT7 only needs 10MB free?!?
wow, thought it would be more than that (had tried finding out and couldn't get hold of the info). everyone seems to blaming slow responding maps on lack of memory...
will try removing TT7 as you say and reinstall - anyone know whether you can install the TT7 app to the card as well as the maps?

The best whatr you can do is to install tomtom 7 on the Device (it is faster) and the maps on the sd card.
it needs 12 mb on the device and max MAXXXXXXXX --> 10 MB free ram
cool - have already got it working from the SD card tonight after re-install (no idea why it was giving me an out of mem eror when working fine with less before). Will test tomorrow, then try moving it back to device if sluggish.
App isn't slow in general, just on the GPS keeping up with the map... maybe a Radio update and 6.1 will help anyway.
Thanks
TT7 works for me now...
test ok on latest karmba_a rom with western and central europe 7.20 maps...
didn't need to do something special about memory...works like a charm
Right, this just gets stranger...
Installed it again as mentioned above - worked for a couple of times then back to the
"Unable to start.
Not enough memory is available" error.
So, today I flashed the device witht he latest Radio and Tytn's STD rom, and reinstalled TT7 again.
Guess what? it worked for the forst few times again, and then back to the same old error!!!!
I've no idea what's going on here...
update
after re-flsahing again, I tried downloading the free map, and all seemed fine for a bit.
so i spent ages messing about getting my original maps working again, and added a few more progs, then... TT7 stopped working again with the not enough free memory error.
Now, fubby thing is, a game I installed wouldn't start with the same not enough memory error, only this one reported that it needed a minimum of 16MB to run. I'm currently showing between 22- 25MB free RAM on average, so it can't be that.
I'm now convinced that something in my phone is incorrectly reporting memory usage. Seeing as this error has occurred before and after flashing (new ROM, new radio), with two different programs now, does this mnean that it may be some odd hardware error?
I really need a techy expert on this one, maybe is there another more general tech forum where I might get a wider response? Any idea Mods?
thanks
Dom
I've the same problem
When I've installed the TOMTOM, it's worked for few times, but after inexplicably it's stopped working with the message ""Unable to start.
Not enough memory is available" error but I don't have idea of the causes.
you'll be pleased to know that this was an early symptom of my trinity dying... it started locking and frequently needing battery removal causing a factory reset, more and more often... to the point where it would reset twice a day.
I suspect faulty main memory
Ive seen this issue on my Trinity, as I recall it has something to do with favorites list, I removed it and let it rebuild it and it worked great. Ill go home and check it again. I have 7.450 (9028) TT, maps 720.1803 working on mine. I even was able to use my old fav list from TT6.0. I had to let it churn and work for almost 4-5 hours to come to the Warning screen, but Ive been looking for the 7.5 or 7.6 files to test my theories on the memory issue with it.

WMtorrent slows down everything

hi, my first post ever just got HTC Leo, flashed it and instlled arteus rom and sbp mobile shell. everything works like a dream, exept one program: wmtorrent.
whenever i launch wmtorrent my phone becomes unusable because everything is so slow. cant even open taskmanager sometimes.
is it because wmtorrent is installed on the SD-Card, or does everyone have this problem?
im not sure we can talk much about torrents on this site lol

Could be caused by several things. First of all - sbp shell - although nice, is a complete resource hog plus it will eat your battery quickly...so you might try getting rid of that.
Next I would take a look at all your configs in wmtorrent - make sure it's not making too many connections and such. And if you pulling down a lot of torrents at once that can cause an issue too. Anyway I'm using it on my t-mobile HD2 and no real issues here...
I had the same issue..
..and for me, it was simple: when you download something it gets stored on your device memory until it is complete, even though you are downloading it to your SD-card. Sadly, the HD2 have the worst internal memory in history so... good luck with that. You need free internal memory for your device to operate smoothly. I had 70MB internal memory left, and tried to download a file on 80MB, then I ended up with no free space on my device for it to work with.. but after some time lagging through it and deleting the download it was OK again.
The SD-card itself can be a problem, if it is huge, have a lot of files on it and it is a lower class SD-card. There are class 1-6 on them (it should say so on the card itself what class it is, 1 being slowest, 6 being fastest).
