Gprs Switch To Edge - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi!.. does anyone know if there is a way to manually switch between GPRS 2 EDGE? Both protocol are avalable where I live and my wizard tempt to choise GPRS first or if I'm lucky EDGE... To swich to EDGE I have to turn the phone on and off many times and sometimes takes very long before it lock's up to EDGE. Anyone has a work arround to this?
Thank you

Hi
GPRS always on
If you want your GPRS (or EDGE) connection to always be on, set the following:
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\|gprs connection name|\AlwaysOn = 1 (DWORD decimal)
And to turn it off:
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\|gprs connection name|\AlwaysOn = 0 (DWORD decimal)
Note that |gprs connection name| will depend on the name you've given your GPRS connection

And what about if I only want to use EDGE and no "GPRS"?

EDGE is a subset of GPRS, it uses GPRS databands but is faster because it has all sorts of tweaks to the GPRS packet structure. Go to Wikipedia.org and search EDGE, and you'll get more information on it. GPRS is the databand name, EDGE is the packet structure. In other words, you want just EDGE packets, no GPRS. Here's an easy way to do that: Keep a clean signal.

So in other words if I fit an external antenna I would be ok? all the times? the things is that if I'm using EDGE I'm surfing pretty fast and also I can reiceve phone calls at the same times. I connect my laptop using BT and leave my wizzard on the coffee table! but some days I got EDGE some days not... to get EDGE I have to go to connection manager and switching the phone on and off and sometimes takes lot's of time before it switch to EDGE. So I though it would take me less to find a work arround to this... and here I am...

My Wizard stopped picking up EDGE after went to Canada for some reason... Nothing would fix it, not even a hard reset, so i had it replaced. I don't know what caused it, but maybe yours is in the same boat? If under warranty get it replaced...

Not really!!! mine works... the things is I have to switch it off and then on severals times before I get the E on display...

Regedit to stop EDGE service?

Is there a regedit that allows you to turn off EDGE support, leaving only the standard GPRS?
why would you want to do that?
because my operator's EDGE fails - every time i connect to the network, i can use it for about 30-60 seconds; thereafter, the device shows the connection to be active but no traffic passes (many have made similar complaints).
as the EDGE service was recently introduced, and the operator's GPRS service otherwise works flawlessly, I want to "downgrade" until the kinks are worked out...
any ideas?

GPRS always auto disconnects after some time

I found a lot of posts where people ask for auto disconnect. My problem is the other way round: When I connect with GPRS after some 5 minutes or so my QTEK S200 disconnects by itself. This might be caused by the cab file MP_autoDisconnect_EnableDRM_prophetUA(AKU2.0)_060112.cab which I found in enhanced ROM?
I don't want to hard reset to see the effect this cab not beeing installed. Any ideas to help???
I have the same problem... lets see if anyone knows how to enable GPRS for longer then only 6 minutes.
I have the same problem... lets see if anyone knows how to enable GPRS for longer then only 6 minutes.
it's because of your mobile operator. i've the same sh.t here. it keeps disconnecting after 5-10 minutes and the traffic rounds up. and i have to pay more... i've a hima, my friend's SE W800 - same crap, keeps disconnecting. i'm sick of GSM networks, they're getting old and do not meet modern speed and reliability requirements. so i'm afraid we'll just have to wait until WiMAX or something else comes to replace an old man. cheers
You might wanna try this from wiki here:

I'm on tmobile web n walk, so its a pain to wait for gprs to reconnect everytime.... I've just started using this for about a day, but looks ok so far... try it... see if its the magic ur looking for

I don't think it's connected to the provider as I know enough people using the same provider where GPRS stays connected a long time. The only difference we have is the PPC. I will try jamichy's solution later this week when I will be back home. In the meantime Craic Dub - does it solve the problem on your side?

O.k. I couldn't wait and tested today. Now the connection seems to stay as long as you do not stop it.
But: It connects automatically to GPRS when you connect the phone to your provider. That's not really what I wanted. In other countries this will create extreme roaming costs.
Any other idea on how to stop this auto connect? Even using phonealarm's "do not start GPRS automatically" does not help, again it starts connecting when you dial in your Phone PIN.
:?
Seems the Reg Hack is not a brilliant idea... I have setup my device to power off display after 2min... when i press power button to come out of standby, it freezes the device for abt 40 to 50 sec
Its worse when i get an incoming call, the screen is on but does not respond to touch or pressing green button...
So i changed registry back... and bingo, everythings ok again....
But now, i've found another way, a little freeware app that does all I want and more, and you get the option to choose connect gprs on boot or connect when needed... etc... take a look at:
http://www.gb-soft.cz/XDAII/product_gprs_tweak_wm5pe_en.htm
I'm using now, and seems ok

Sounds interesting. Still difficult for me to understand what it really does:
- What means "search GPRS [G] on start radio"
- What means "start [G] on start GPRS
- What means "Switch GRPS always On/Off hold till for following connection"
Can you tell me what it does non your side? Im a startting to hesitate trying to many things. I am still not convinced of WM5 - I installed GPS pgrs monitor (on QTEK CD...) which did not work together with phone alarm. And to deinstall was the ususal WM5 hassle, only using sktools and manual deletion of a file after another soft reser I was able to remove it again
Search GPRS ON start radio=gprs connects on startup
Start G on start GPRS=gprs connects when an application needs web connection, and stays connected
Switch GRPS always On/Off hold till for following connection=default settings, connect when needed, then disconnect
Havent had the phone freeze problem, and gprs connects on startup, and stays connected... which is fine for my tariff, tmobile web n walk unlimited gprs

GPRS turning off problem after upgarde to new T-mobile ROM

hi, i am having an odd problem after upgrading my rom to letes t-mobile rom and getting rid of customization(soft rest before customization) i am unable to turn off GPRS ( i have entered the GPRS settings manually). the only way to turn it off is to perform soft reset or turn on on the flight mode and then turn it off. when i tab on active GPRS conection there is "disconnect" option missing. is there any way to resolve this problem ?? and the turning off and on on flight mode for some reason dosnt respond really quickly and i have to do it a couple of times.
as to the ROM itslef seems to be OK..and without costumization wizard works really quick !
cheers, matt
Change it with this reg tweak
To disable gprs always being on:
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\|gprs connection name|\AlwaysOn = 0 (DWORD decimal)
Note that |gprs connection name| will depend on the name you've given your GPRS connection
value = 1 for gprs always on
how do u DO this ?? do i need a piece of software or ??
cheers, matt
You need a registry editor and change the value - find attached.
Copy cab over to device and click on it through file explorer (do not open it on you pc)
If you are not up to doing that - pm me and I'll sort it for you.
i have recently updates my rom to get rid of the customization, and now i have gprs/edge on my fone, but i dont currently have a data serice on my fone, will i be charged if i conitnue usin it

GPRS switchin problems

I am having quite a small, but annoying problem with my S100.
I need to use 2 GPRS connections. One for my vodafone Push mail, and one for normal webbrowsing. I need to switch these 2 connections everytime.
That's not a real big problem, but point is, i cannot switch back. It cannot connect for an unknown reason ...
Totally shutting it down by entering Flightmode, does the trick. But entering and leaving flightmode is quite a hassle.
I do not believe it is an provider-issue, but an issue on my S100.
Are there programs that can turn off gprs just like flightmode, (but keep radio alive), and switch to another connection, and vice-versa? Or, solutions in registry or something?
I have a feeling the other connection is somewhat 'alive' so the new one won't work.
Did you tried with this?
Add a 'Disconnect' button (and Timer) to the "GPRS Balloon Tip"
To add a Disconnect button and a timer display showing how long GRPS is in use for the session:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 16 (DWORD decimal)

Turn off 3g/data in X amount of minutes when not in use?

Hi there,
Does anyone know if it is possible to have the phone turn off the data/3g portion when not used in X amount of minutes? I know for WIFI it is possible but not sure if data/3g is possible?
Also, it seems when i have wifi and data on, the phone would use 3g over the wifi in OPERA or even updating weather in SPB mobile shell. Is this normal? Anyway to make it so WIFI is first priority over 3G?
Thanks
not normal, the phone should use the wifi first then the 3G.
ps. would be cool if an app or registry hack could switch off 3G when not in use.
I get the same issue with the WiFi not being prefered with SPB weather and also a hotmail email account. I was going to play with "NoData" but would be interested if theres a better solution
Couldn't find a better solution, I made sure to turn of HSDPA in the phone settings, change my network to GSM, then use "NoData" because I don't have a data plan. So far no extra charges.
Try the
GB-SOFT GPRS Tweak (EDGE+UMTS+3G) for WM6.1 - HTC Diamond
found in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407264
I installed it on my Xperia and it worked.
try bandswitch.....
Does turning off/on the data/3g part harm the hardware in any way?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\
•
SuspendResume = GPRS_bye_if_device_off
•
CacheTime = xxx (where xxx are seconds before auto disconnect, the best value is 60)
after editing registry with this values it should hang up the connection after an specific amount of time without data transferred
Advance config in more setting connection you have the option
