Diagnostic tools? - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Just a quick simple question really..
Is there such a thing as some kinda software diagnostic tool for HTC handsets.. especially one for my S110.
Something that would maybe plug into the USB socket and display results on a PC etc.
Does such a thing exist?

What diagnosis do you need?

Well, I know that my phone is knacked.. as it keeps losing signal.. something I have been posting about on another thread. It did get me thinking if it were possible to diagnose hardware error / faults in maybe the same way as PCs have programs that can dignose port problem, disc errors, memory problems etc.
Just interested!

USB data input use on a non USB Host smartphone

Hy everyone,
First of all, thanks for this great forum which never fails to impress me.
I have a question which some of you might help answering: I'm wondering if it's possible to use the mini-usb port of my smartphone to get some data input.
Let me explain myself a bit more: I know that smartphones (HTC Touch for me) aren't USB hosts. However, the data connexions are still present.
Here's what I'd like to do: even though the smartphone can't control another peripheral, I'd like that external peripheral to send data to the smartphone, and the smartphone to use that data to control the screen. That would give an alternative way of controlling the screen.
The input would come from another touch surface, so my guess is that using the data to control the screen shouldn't be much of a problem.
So? Any idea if it's possible? What kind of platform/language would be nice to do that? C#?
(I have JAVA development experience, but I'm quite a newbie as far as Win Mobile devs are concerned. I'm willing to learn though
I think I searched this forum (and others) quite extensively before posting. If by any chance I missed a related post, I'd be glad to know about it
No ideas? Anyone?
Last up before I stop...
prob. not
i dont think that is technically possible. i think one has to be the host, and that host provides power. so to power the input device(im thinking keyboard) it would need the smartphone/ppc to be a host....
but i have no clue in this area...maybe someone could prove me wrong?
Hey, thanks for your answer.
The powering issues could be overcomed by cutting the cables and giving power from an external power source (I think several people have tried doing it, I need to find the links again). By the way, the peripheral itself is plugged on 110V, so there's plenty of available power
I'm not seeking here to "control" the device, just to aquire the signal it's sending... Does that seem feasible, or does the peripheral need to be somehow "activated" by a Host before sending anything?
Well, in order to get data, the host must ask the slave each time it needs some. Other things must be done by the host, like usb enumeration. That means there has to be a host or it won't work, unless you use usb on-the-go, but I do not know many devices that support it.
according to the qualcomm website, the msm chipsets support otg

USB Device not recognized

I just bought used Hima through, because I broke LCD screen on mine. And I got it with some old German ROM on it, it's working fine, but I would like something newer and in English. The thing is, that when I put phone in USB craddle, it only charges the device and says that USB Device Not Recognized. I cannot upgrade ROM nor anything else, just charge it. On my previous broken Hima, I had no such problem... Does anyone has clue what is wrong and what is the solution?
Thank you in advance...
I just found out that when I want to sync, I can do it, but have to pull cell phone toward me while it's in craddle. But doesn't work when I want to flash ROM. So I guess it's pins problem. I looked them and don't see anything bad, anyone has clue what to do?
OK, I finally managed to install ROM, I had to stick something to push forward my Hima in cradle. Does anyone know what can I do to fix that problem? It's the pins connection problem...
first of all..i don't understand why you started a new topic on this problem because THERE IS ANOTHER TOPIC WITH THIS PROBLEM JUST 3 LINES DOWN AFTER YOUR TOPIC...if you had read but didn't......about the conectivity problem with the pins cradle usb cable and advanced functionality of the usb-pc function..and thath it works just for the charge and for standard conectivity is says device mailfunction...
Because I had german windows 2003 that had no advanced functionality of the usb-pc connection! And also I didn't see too many similarities with those posts which aren't three lines down after my topic.
I changed 2 craddles and also had same problems. But I managed to access PPC when I gave some pressure on cell phone while in cradle...
I have another broken Hima (LCD screen broken), and wondered if I could take his connector?!

Help with accessing files on Polaris

Hello everyone, I have a couple of questions to ask all of you great phone gurus
**If this is the wrong forum for this sort of thread, I apologize in advance**
Basically I have ruined the USB connection on my Touch Cruise. I am wanting to know if there is any way I can access my files on the phone by having it connected to my wireless network at home (ie a program or something I can run on my PC.) Reason I ask is I am trying to edit the HTC weather Plugin to show my location (Lebanon, OH, USA) and it is quite hard/impossible to do using the phone alone.
Second question is, is it possible to replace a damaged USB connector? I know it is probably ruined but I figure it might be worth a try. I had attempted to hook up my front USB header on my motherboard, but plugged them in backwards. I managed to salvage the phone by removing the actual USB piece from the phone and pulling the wires out. Luckily I am still able to use the phone (nothing else besides the USB connector is messed up) by purchasing an external battery charger + battery.
I know these are probably both a shot in the dark but any help anyone could provide would be GREATLY appreciated.
You can sync via bluetooth if you have it on your computer, or wifi search in google for that (ex: http://wifi.aximsite.com/sync.html)
I tought replace it will be very hard .
just out of curiosity could you please give us some screenshots as i'm having a real hard time understanding what you did and how it looks now? ^^
using bluetooth will help and maybe a card reader + microSD might speed things up. find a good file manager for WinMO
i doubt that there is any way to acces phones files through wireles so bluetooth is the only wireless (and supported) way
I don't have a camera currently but just look at your USB connection on your phone then imagine that there is absolutely nothing in it. It is just an empty 'rectangle'. No wires or the little horizontal piece that normally sits in there. Just an empty 'rectangle.'
Thanks for the replies. I am trying the wireless sync now.
Thanks a bunch

usb devices attached to jade is it possible ?

well i started some searches and found out an app that enables jade to recognize some usb devices like a mouse key board stuff like this so
i was askin does any one has tried it and is it possible to plug a flash memory to jade puttin in consideration the plug of those devices needs an external power intake.
the app is called Zeno_USB_Host_Drivers

The generic answer to your question is no, unless you are hooking up your smartphone to a computer with ActiveSync loaded, it will not be recognized by USB devices like a scanner, camera, keyboard, etc. unless special drivers are installed onto your smartphone.
However, I Yahoo'd Zeno_USB_Host_Drivers and came up with this website: http://www.cnpda.com.cn/thread-223519-1-1.html
It appears that if those Zeno drivers are installed to your smartphone, you will be able to connect to devices listed on that page. That page only lists one phone and WM 6.1 which makes me very leery about trying to download and install it. I would wait until more is known about these drivers if I were you. . .
I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480899
And the guy that made it says it's safe to try:
"There's nothing harmful, nothing malicious hidden in my program, so you can test it on your devices without risk for dataloss or other unpleasant effects.
The installation (CABs) is not locked to certain device, it is uninstallable, it is not compressed to avoid installproblems on certain devices. On my FSC Loox 560N I could install/uninstall without problems. Test my program, if it works, I'll be glad I could help other users, without thinking of money or profit. If it does not work, I can not guarantee I can help you. Just try and see."
So I'd just try and see if it works if I were you.
Did it work on the Jade? Very interested to know seeing as most phones do not appear to work.

Wiring sensors to android phone motherboard ???

Hi,
I am new to android hardware (have some experience with programming for Dalvik & NDK). I have an idea to use my old Android phone as a robot OS. However for that I'd need to connect more sensors to my device. I know this could be done over BT, but I am more thinking of wiring them to the OS. Is there anyone here that has any experience with that / know any link talking about that?
I am mostly thinking about connecting an array of microphones to the Android motherboard ...
Thanks in advance for your help...

find a port that will accept it, and mod the OS to accept it and you should be fine

Depending on what you do with the audio from those microphones you're going to need support hardware (op-amps, etc.). I think you'd be better off using an intermediary device to interpret the audio and the send it to the Android device as serial data through the USB port. This can be done with an IOIO board, Arduino, etc.
I will try with IOIO to see how it goes
Hi,
I guess I would be trying IOIO in first attempt and see if I can find anything similar to IOIO but working with Bluetooth instead ...
Thanks for your help.
Bluetooth is definitely the simplest option to get going with.
If your phone and OS support USB host mode, then the other option is to use USB. I'm not sure what sound card support is like in Android, but if all else fails you could make your own USB device with an Arduino or similar to do the signal processing. Of course, then you might not need the phone...
If you have mad electronic and soldering skills you might also be able to hack into an I2C bus line. You'd then need to add some driver (maybe kernel support) for the device(s). But this would probably only work for sensors other than microphones (they're probably too high bandwidth for this method and probably don't use I2C anyhow).
I've dreamed of adding a flash LED to my phone in this way but been put off by the difficulty of the electronics and programming of it all and the fact I'd need to make an ugly case mod
This is way dirtier then just using Bluetooth or USB but I'd love to see someone try it
