Just wanted to say hi as a new member and post some overclocking results using XCPUScalar. I've used this software on a few devices with acceptable results, and it seems to help the hermes a bit as well. Below are my results (in case you visit both forums, I also posted them on PPCGeeks.com)
Of course XCPU's CPU meter says 500mhz, but I d/l SPB's benchmark software to see if there is any appreciable difference, hopefully someone here who is higher up in the geeky ladder than I am can explain the results, granted it would seem to me that the "CPU Benchmark" of 1190.58 on the pre-overclocked 8525 is lower than that of 1313.33 on the post-overclocked 8525. Full "misc" category test results are below:

XCPUScalar doesn't work on the Hermes unfortunately... at least it didn't a month back when I tested it. It reports that it is overclocked, but it isn't.
I am using the newest version, and those are the results. Seat of the pants it seems a bit snappier, and scored noticeably better in all of the categories tested w/ SPB Benchmark.
the hermes has a samsung processor and xpuscaler only works with TI OMAP processors... THIS will not work on the hermes!!!
If you're a brave little toaster, you can try your hand at Pocket Hack Master. I can test successfully at the lower speeds, but much past 300MHz it crashes. If you go too high, it hard resets your Hermes ><;

i can verify that.... however when i underclock mine would lock up after some time...
i think if you ran that test a few times, they would all average out to the same. Some of the tests came up slightly faster overclocked, and some were actually slower. looks like standard deviation to me.

I would have prefered you post all the warnings of using such utlity ... for some unexperienced users this could permanently damage their devices.
For all folks here ... pay all attention to the heat while working on high speeds ... and don't ever try ROM flashing on any speed but the default one (206 for XDA and 400 for XDA II)
Ive been running Gameboy Advance and SNES roms, using XPU scalar @ 530Mhz for hours and hours. The device gets VERY hot after 5 hours, but it still fights on without a restart...
Although, ive tried other clocking apps @ 600mhz and then it got so hot it restarted itself...
I use Pocket Hack Master and have had my device up to 1689Mhz without any ill effects, though this is apparently unusually quick for an XdaII - the SDRAM usually can't handle 147MHz.
With PHM, mine scales between 399MHz and 589MHz depending purely on load, I've been using it for about three months with no apparent problems.
I tried it on i-mate ... the device is frozen if I use 530 MHz
Mine runs fine at 530 and 473... I even did a benchmark in BetaPlayer; huge improvement at 530; however, I decided to back it off to 400 to save on batteries.

Probably the SDRAM can't handle the 133MHz - it's the first thing that usually falls over. You could put the multiplier down to 1/2x from 1x and it would probably work but that would mean your RAM was only running at 66MHz.

- At 472 MHz as well as at 530 MHz, the memory is underclocked (50 - 66 MHz). I ask if it would be possible to maintain the memory around 100 MHz (+/- 10 MHz) during the overclock.
- Does the XScale CPU have the frequency fixed at 400 MHz ? Intel didn't think to dinamical frequence switch ? (like in Centrino or P4M) ? Because if not, then this software would allow battery economy. But it's weird, Intel wasn't able to do the same thing ???
With PHM you can choose whether to 1/2x or 1x clock the SDRAM and the LCD. I use 1x, so when I'm running the CPU at 590, the memory is running at 147MHz, most Xda II's won't handle this but it appears I was really lucky and got very good RAM in mine.

Are you sure in underclocked? I am sure the memory clock is set to standard freq. with all the benefits,like stability and faster processor clock (472-530)
You can verify it downloading other Overclocking applications,like made from Mamaich.

You will obtain SDRAM and MEM LCD 100mhz,CPU 597mhz PXBUS 199mhz
I've Benchmarked it with GX BenchMark with no good results.
So,best performance for gaming you will obtain on 530Mhz

Done that.
But at 530 MHz, my memory cames down to 66 MHz thus not 133 MHz, I think it doesn't support anything above 100-105 MHz.
Now I want to benchmark myself , I'll try to find GX Benchmark.
I only regret the downclocking function of CPUScalar, that saves battery (can somebody confirm ?)

After many hard-resets,installation of system files and progrs..
I can finally assure that CALLER-ID program seriously give conflicts on overclocked Cpu frequencies,more than 472Mhz..(like 530,ecc..)
And drains more battery power.
Just let you know..
Now is your choice..
To tell u the truth, i use xCPUScalar for a month in advanced mode:
0-15% - 300
16-40% -400
41-70% -472
71 -100 -530 and have no problems at all.
BTW - CallerID is a very uncertain subj by itself.

Pocket Hack Master runs the Jasjar version of the HTC Universal @ 624 Mhz with no apparent problems. It passes the stress test at this setting and runs video at this setting. I've noticed that when running video, Pocket Hack Master's processor use utility doesn't completely max out when the processor speed is set @ 624 Mhx and that (as others have noted) running video slower than 624 Mhz results in noticeable frame rate slowness.
Since it's only rated to run @ 520 Mhz, I'm wondering if running it @ 624 Mhz will shorten the processor life or cause more serious problems. The only definitive way to know would be to run long-term on the Universal @ 624 Mhz.
Can anything think of a way besides running a long-term test to determine if damage is being done to the Uni's processor by running it @ 624 Mhz?
I too am interested in this. What do people advise running at, at most?
PS: On my Xda Exec it fails the 624 test each time, only 520 works.
I also have the same problem - it fails the 620mhz test
mine freezes @ 624, ocasionally. Not very usable, and quite annoying. I do see the difference in performance, but it crashes too often to be true :roll:

Yeah mine has been fine @624 for two days no glitches at all mines a T-Mobile MDA Pro
mine is now approaching 3 weeks at this speed and its fine !!! TBH the CPU will be running a little warmer, because you are asking more of it !! but its not as if you are putting extra voltage into it or anything so the chances of it blowing or miniscule !! if it gets unhappy it will just lock up. any here are the settings I used in PHM
I left all the timings of every thing as normal but pushed the multiplier up 1 more to 624 MHZ if I try 2 more (728 MHZ) it crashes before it even begins the burn in stability test :shock: suffice to say all the timings are identical to a genuine intel 624 MHZ CPU

half turbo disabled (dunno what the point of a half turbo is, it just seems to halve CPU speed)

after adding it dont forget to set as favourite and then you can enable the speed

SI (speed index) now 373 up from 341
MIPS (millions of instructions per second) now 261 up from 217
Memory (even though I did not overclock the memory bus) now 486 up from 465
as stated 1 more step to 728 MHZ is a no go, and if you try to decrease the bus speed and up the multiplier to get speeds in-between 624 and 728, it starts suffering from bottlenecking and is not worth it if you look at the actual stats of data rate (MIPS memory etc) despite the higher figure of CPU MHZ its actually running slower the other drawback to strange bus speeds is that screen begins to flicker

I think it would be very useful if we compiled a list of the games that run in Dosbox on the HTC Wizard.
Please state the name of the game, the CPU clock (overclocked or ordinary 180 MHz?), the emulator used (PocketDOS or n0p's DOSBOX. I'm using the CVS ARM version from n0p.) and the number of cycles you've got it set to, and say whether it's playable or not, comment, blah.
I will be posting some of mine later today, I hope, so feel free to post your findings and I will compile a big list.

Our phones cannot display more then ~56 fps due to vsync
Test settings: JM2, samset 1.8, mimocans ext4 fix + dalvik cache sent to nand, 8gb class 6 sd, all benchmarks were only run once.
Neocore:
200mhz : 36.8 fps
400mhz : 56 fps
800mhz : 56 fps
1000mhz : 56 fps
Yes, with our cpu reduced by 80% we still beat the nexus one and other froyo omapp/snapdragon cpu's in neocore.
Quadrant: (world & moon, the others are more difficult to test)
200mhz : 40fps : 410 Quadrant
400mhz : 56fps : 789 Quadrant
800mhz : 56fps : 1532 Quadrant
1000mhz: 56fps: 1762 Quadrant
Fps2d is 56 fps at all cpu settings.
-IMPORTANT-
Due to the nature of vsync we have no idea what fps we could be getting, Generally when you scale down cpu performance the bandwidth available for the gpu decreases dramatically as the processor cannot handle the new frames to keep up with the gpu. What this is showing us is that in neocore at 1000mhz we only require 20% of the cpu to get 36.8 fps and somewhere around 300mhz to get to the 56fps vsync cap. For all i know the gpu might only be able to output 70 fps without vsync at 1,000mhz, the question is by how much does reducing the cpu speed effect the available bandwidth to the gpu
This shows us:
1. Our gpu is largely held back by the frame-limit, the cpu also has an impact on the gpu performance.
2. We need better benchmarks to test only 3d performance, many of the 3d tests in quadrant are either heavy on the cpu, or are 2d tests. And neocore is simply not taxing enough on our gpu.
3. Need to find a way to remove vsync
4. Its a powerful beast! looking forward to froyo

The next thing i would like too see is quadrant tests where the SGS has undergone the Lagfix and then with different SD cards
I installed CM7 with DSC Phoenix test2,overclock to 1344MHz.
when I bench with Quadrant Advanced ver2.1, my score is >1300 to 1400.
It's lower than my old milestone 1 (with CPU 600 MHz Cortex-A8 and GPU PowerVR SGX530, overclock to 1,1Ghz). quadrant score of milestone1 is > 1700. I dont know why?
And this morning I tested with HTC Incredible S of my friend (CPU 1 GHz Scorpion
and GPU Adreno 205, ICS rom without overclock). Score is > 1900.
Is my streak weak? I cant believe streak5 is slower than milestone1 and HTC Incredible S.

I think many on here will agree with me when I say forget about the benchmark scores. They largely mean nothing as it relates to real world performance and you can drive yourself crazy trying to tweak your phone to death to increase the numbers. With that being said, the performance hit is likely in the file i/o section.
As normal user and not a programmer, I dont understand about the file i/o section. But thanks you, Lordmorphous. So I'll forget foolish scores, what a stupid app =))
File I/O = File input and output, which in simpler language is the act of reading and writing to the MicroSD cards.
Quadrant and other such benchmark tools are fun to run, but they don't mean much. To properly test a device requires a benchmark program like Futuremark's PCMark, which includes real-world applications and simulates real-world usage. There is no such benchmark app for Android however.
though, if you guys notice the benchmark for the quadrant advance 2.x, the i/o score for our DS5 does a bit low compared to others but... well you know, it just numbers... nothing more.. nothing less...
however, cpu power does have the impact when overclocked, for let say using default cpu speed of 1ghz, software decoding is a bit slow compared to overclocked 1.2ghz...
