XDA II Battery Life Time - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi folks!
Thanks for this great resource of knowledge!
Yesterday I got a Qtek XDA II which translates to a Himalaya (AFAIK since
I found this forum). This Qtek was branded for an Austrian telecom provider
and so I searched for an unbranded firmware and found the WM2k5 firmware
image on this website (resp. the ftp site) and installed it onto this device.
Everything worked really fine, no ID-lock anymore and the branding has
completely gone, besides the "boot-logo" before the firmware starts (don't
know what this is really called by developers )
Unfortunately, I'm not very satisfied with the battery life time of this smartphone.
I had it connected to the craddle since I left work at 17:00 and today
in the morning (05:30) I had a look at it and it was powered off, so the
battery life time must be really bad as it doesn't keep the device up for
at least 12 hours...
Do others experience this issue too or is it simply my accu-pak that needs
to be replaced?
How long do your batteries last?
Is there something like a battery recalibration utility out there?
Thanks in Advance,
Alex

mda's battery life is not really good. mine is good for 1-2h telephone calls. then i have to recharge it. that's why i have a charger at home, the cradle in the office, and a car charger (in my car - obviously .
pda batteries are not known for their life span. after 1-2 years of use they become very bad.
hints:
.) disable bluetooth whenever possible
.) turn off infrared
.) turn off phone at night (there are tools to do that automatically)
.) underclock device
hope this helps

Not active on my XDA, because when I'm at the office, it's always connected to my

I don't use Bluetooth headsets or things like this at the moment.

I guess, especially for the XDA II this is not really an option (at least not in
combination with WM2k5), because the XDA II is not really a fast runner in terms
of reacting to touch events etc.
Today I did some research on ebay and found 2400mAh battery packs (twice
as much capacity as my current ph17b). The only difference is, that they are
thicker than the original one. Will I have compatibility issues with my craddle
with such battery packs or should I simply get a second 1200mAh pack and
switch them occasionally?

normally there are no problems regarding the cradle, because that's the normal way to charge the pda (and i guess developers of these batterypacks have that in mind . you MIGHT get problems if you use the pda in your car's pda-holder.
one more thing to keep in mind: those high-capacity battery-packs are REALLY heavy and REALLY thick. i had one for my mda-vario. the already thick vario had the size of a brick with the new pack. it was 8(!)mm thicker than before. (battery life time was great!!)

OK, Maybe I'll give that one a try...
Thanks for the information!

i have used XDA II 1year and i like it.
if i listen music, my battery is 5h but i dont listen music, it is 2 day.
U can add nick me : thaivu85
I like echange view with every one to develop knowlege about hymalaya.
i use WM SE 2003

I just got better battery capacity than one i have in package(1200mA).It's battery with 1500mA.But there is a problem. My MDA II show me ,after 12 h charging,0%.But,MDA II works.Only trouble is that MDA II shutdown light every 4 sec(maybe battery saving or something else, despite settings with bigger value).I have tested my new battery in service with and conclude that it's full charged(3.7v).I realise then that my ROM file(3.50b40cs.01.12.2007) have problem to "read" battery with biger capacity than 1200mA(1500mA) and show me always battery 0% charged.
What to do?

XDA II mini battery performance

Hi everyone,
I have having a terrible battery performance for my mini. It seems that just after 2 hours, the battery level drops from 100% to about 80% . Any idea why? :?
Does anyone else have this problem?
Thanks!
Try to look in Start/Settings/System/Memory ---running programs...you may have some programs running and consuming battery. If U have Pocket hack master it drawn the battery very fast if overclocked and installed!
Regards,
Primoz
Hi Primoz
Thanks for the info. But on my previous device XDA IIs, even with the applications running, the battery life was still ok.
Sigh... perhaps my batt is a lemon... so far it has only lasted 1 day with a full charge!!!
Hmmm...strange, if the I-mate is new try to replace the battery...cause for me the battery life is about 2 days...in average. If not used much 3-4 days.
Regards,
Primoz
Hmm, perhaps an investigation is in order :?: :
Did you leave your beam receive on?
Are you using bluetooth?
What programs are running, especially today screen plugins?
Hi,
nope, bluetooth is off, IR is off however, I left the SD Card in the slot all the time.
I have also made sure there are no today screen plugins and also programs running in the background.
I just checked.... 1 hour, the battery level drops by 6 %
This is terrible. I am using XDA II mini... don't seem to see this problem with i-Mates and others though...
anyone with XDA II mini care to comment?
Perhaps it's because your battery is still new. On average, batteries have full capacity and stamina after 10-20 cycles of full charge-full discharge.
Make sure:
Backlight is on low setting.
Bluetooth is off.
Infrared is off.
Power off after x minutes.
Backlight off after x minutes.
I have only had my XDA Mini for 8 days now and my battery life is much better than that.
The phone and PIM gets a good going over during a business day and then a couple hours of WiFi in the evening when i get home and i have never had the battery drop below 30%.
My XDA II used to be flat by the end of the day.
The difference is now that i charge the unit for 7 hours during the evenings as opposed to the XDA II sitting in the craddle during the day.
I have finally given up on charging and recharging the battery. I just sent my mini for servicing yesterday. Apparently, the service folks also think that the poor performance of the batt is due to a faulty power regulator.
Anyways, I was quite disappointed that I got a lemon. They promised me my device back by Friday or Sat.
Will update again on the batt performance once I get it back.... :?
Hello!
I have the same problem and if you know where the problem came from i would be very interesting , to know if i have to send it to repair too or if there is another solution!
Thanks
how do you turn IR off?
To turn of IR....
Start>Settings>Connections>Beam
Uncheck the box which says receive all incoming beams.

I just got back my set from the O2 repair center in Singapore. The service tech said that there wasn't any problem and the battery drain is at an ACCEPTABLE rate!
I am still getting the poor battery performance. I can only last 10 hrs max without USING my PDA. I did not even use the PDA function extensively ( at most 20 mins) and did not even use the phone.... yes, all the applications were stopped and even disabled the IR.
I escalated this issue to O2 and they told me that they will check with the tech about the set....
This is terrible!!!! :x .....
Anyone else with this problem? I suspect that this is an hardware / battery issue.
Sigh... hope that O2 can do something about!
to mod: sorry about making noise about this.... but I had to let it out of my chest!

Maybe try the backup and hardreset route? Must be something in your settings that's draining the battery.
If I can tell my experience...I never mind if battery is full of charge or it is down...'couse whenever I can, I always connect my S100 to USB for recharging...
Uhm...Do I wrong?
I guess for my type of usage, it is unacceptable to always plug it into the charger.
This is because I am on the move most of the time and once I leave my office in the morning, I would not return home till sometime at night. Need the set to last at least 24 hours!
Sigh... anyone has ideas for a workaround?
I've been looking for an additional battery... where to get one?
Is this particular to O2 sets? Cos I have not been seeing compliants with other vendors iMate, T-Mobile etc..
I have the same problem and have try all software solution(differents roms)!!I will send it to repair and hope i will be more lucky than you.
Wish you all the best too! If you do get it fixed, please let me know so that I can do something about it rather than having to deal with O2!
I am getting quite impatient with them for giving me the runaround!

battery life of your wizards ..

Hey everybody ..
I bought myself a nice o2 xda mini s .. ... i'm really hapy with it .. at first I had some trouble changing the rom .. 'cause i have a G4 chip .. but thanks to risidoro's step by step guide i managed to do it .. (THANKS RISIDORO)
My only problem now is that my battery life lasts not even a whole day .. when i use the ppc as a normal user .. lets say .. about an hour of talking . maybe some gaming ... a litlle music .. internet once in a while .. I'm already on 20 - 25 % ... I thought it might be my battery .. so I tried the whole uncharging .. charging to full thing .. but useless ..
I saw some 2400 mhamp .. batteries on ebay .. does anyone use them ??
do you have the same problem ??
any Guru I seek your wisdom ..
I had the same battery life issue after upgrading the ROM. However, it only lasted a few days.
I found that keeping my phone on the charger at night to keep it fully charged for when I was away from home solved the issue in about a week. Every day before heading home from work, it seemed my battery life would increase by about 5% over the "almost dead" battery the first couple of days after the upgrade.
Now -- 2 weeks later -- when I leave work at the end of the day, my battery meter shows that I still have 80% - 85% battery life left. (But I still keep it on the charger overnight -- every night)
Just make sure you keep the battery "topped off" in order to avoid the issue. It WILL come back up. It just takes a few days to get there right after upgrading.
It also depends on what software/plugins you run. E.g., I ran PhoneAlarm for 24 hours, and in 4 hours it drained 80% of my battery. <uninstall>
Something doesn't sound right with your battery. I have my K-JAM for 9 months now and during a typical work day I can:
1. Play audio over BT A2DP for 1:30 HRs
2. Surf the web
3. Retrieve emails
4. Read avantgo
When I get into work I am at 90% battery. Keep in mind that I am also Overclocked at 221 mhz! I also have my K-JAM loaded to bear with sbp pocket plus, MS VC, GsPocketMagic, Pocket/Contact Breeze, Pocket Weather, and SmartsKey.
During the weekend I can go all day using the phone periodically connected to my BT headset (non stereo) and get home with 60-70% battery life.
'Double battery' from ebay
Hi Silvernrg,
I had the original battery for a while.. it lasted from 1 day to 1.5 days depends on usage and how many phone calls I had.
I found a battery on ebay which is 2350mAh (almost double?) which comes with a new back cover (or a door) for the wizard.
Yes, the device looks more bulky now but the nice thing is - I get to use the wizard now for something between 3-3.5 days without recharge. It is critical for me since many times I'm on the road in business trips and I don't want to pull out the charger in all the countries I visit (I already forgot my charger one time in one of the hotels...).
I paid about $16 for the double-battery on ebay and it was sent to me from Hong-kong (to the US) quite quickly (I don't remember the ebay seller but if you can't find one on ebay, I'll dig into the history and find the seller).
hhmmm i also just recently acquired a dopod 838 a variant of htc wizard. when i 1st bought it in singapore i dun hav access to a computer so i jus install wat ever i can to the device using my eten and an mini to sd card adapter. i didnt use phone alarm then and battery life was fantastic with music and wifi and sms and calls. now that everytin is installed including phone alarm 1.52 my fone stays at the top 100% for long time then drains very2 fast after. so far i havent let it go down below 50%(only once). i got an the today overclocker and the omap but i only use it if i play games. movies with wmv lags no matter if i use tcmp or windows media and overclocking wont helps. avi is fine though. dunno if this is normal but im really convinced that stock wizard out of the box will last a whole heaps longer than customised with apps wizard. i havent upgraded my rom yet. it comes with 2.21 IPL and SPL and im really confused with the posted instruction on how to upgrade and dun want to turn it into a brick. will upgrading it to 2.24(is that the recent rom) helps battery life to be better or worst? what extra stuff it have over 2.21? i dont want to lose the extended rom as it got the australian customisation. i already got a2dp using the reg hack and the tornado.cab. quality is not that great. so sticking with the standard headset which is great.

Battery life

Am I the only one who finds it apalling?
Today my battery was on red warning by 1 o'clock.
I have 'unlimited' (FUP 1Gb) data and was just doing things - the hone can do so much - but my battery only lasts hours - not the full day I need
Love my Ameo - hate the keyboard (compared to the Universal) and the battery life!

I have never gotten near exhausting the battery before I am exhausted -- that is 12-15 hour work days. The only time I got close was when I did several presentations using TV-out and forgot my AC power adapter. Right now my battery stands at 60%; it's nearly 7:00p local time and my day started at 4:30a. Didn't do much other than e-mail and phone, but still I have been really pleased with battery life.
As to the keybd, based on what some posted, I was thinking I might go sans keyboard using a soft keyboard like tengo or resco keyboard. In fact the keyboard hasn't bothered me at all. It nicely springs into place when I open the case and types at an OK level.
My biggest complaints are actually the lack of buttons for quick launch... along with the little joystick thingy, which I don't particularly love. The D-Pad on my Wizard seemed more usable. In these two respects my Wizard was easier to navigate. Otherwise, I'm loving the Advantage.
Me too, but ...
I have found mixed results. Some days the battery seems to nosedive and some days when I am expecting trouble its not too bad.
I believe bluetooth really drains the battery. Also when the unit is connected via activesync even though I am using a 'mains powered' dual USB synch cable it hardly seems to charge at all.
However when connected via activesync I use "Screenoff" and this helps a lot.
re keyboard - nothing to be said I just carry the device with me and use TenGO as an SIPS.
HOWEVER while reporting a bug to TenGO (very good people btw) I powered up my old Universal and remembered the old screen size and memory for installed programs - Advantage I love you after all!
Am I the only one who loves the joystick or what? Id take it any day over the D-Pads, dpads are well and good but I find the joystick alot more usable.
As for battery life ive found the biggest drain (as would be expected) is the brightness of the LCD screen. Using default settings the battery life was quite solid (2 days at least, with moderate useage and a fair bit of HSDPA'ing), however to compensate for the poor screen protector that came with it which I applied, I ratcheted up the brightness and sure enough have had to charge it every night since. Which is no big deal for me, but on a day when I have to use VGA out and BT I can see it struggling to make a full day on the highest brightness settings.
TenGo works quite well and the screen is large enough to use VGA SIPs with your finger even, but I still dont mind the hardware keyboard just takes a lil getting use too.
Using any data connection uses a bit more battery than a GSM phone conversation. So if we get 5-6 hours of GSM, then we should get about 4-5 hours of 3G and GPRS/Edge data usage.
However, I have seen that turning down the brightness to 3 steps above the lowest setting yields me a good 6 hours of Edge use. This setting works well indoors or in lower sun light conditions only.
My biggest issue with the device is that it reflects everything. The glare is horrible in high light conditions, almost making it unusable while outside on the street.
Using bluetooth isn't so bad. I've seen it might drain 10% of your battery over a period of 24 hours with no usage except keeping it on.
So, no, I don't find any strange battery patterns with my U1000, at least not yet.
I have push mail enabled so the 3g connection is always on and working. I often have bluetooth on. I still usually get pretty much a full working day without coming close to the battery dying.
However, I do keep the screen on the lowest backlight setting (i.e. one stop away from the end of the scale) and the screen turns itself off after 2 mins.
Try this while charging...
Ive found that when i charge up my Ameo using the USB adaptor to get it to actually charge I:
Turn off bluetooth
Turn off GPRS / 3G data connection
Then i activate WM5torage
This means activesync doesnt try to load up and keep the screen on. I then put the device into standby so the screen isnt on and I managed to get it to charge up to 80% throughout the day.
Otherwise even with bluetooth on and the internet permanently connected i found the battery life to be very good (altho yesterday i could of sworn i charged it up overnight, got to work, played about with the new google maps application, GPS came on, etc, etc, downloaded a few maps, then battery life said 10%! Cant of charged it up the night before. Gonna keep my eye on this)
can I suggest big power users get this

I might end up having to get one of those external chargers - but it's yet another thing to carry! Most of the time I can charge it overnight or at the office.
I think it's using the screen that is the problem - I have BT on all the time for my headset and 3G for my push email from my server but it's when I'm I'm browsing the internet / using google maps / using TomTom that drains the battery.
TomTom drains the battery faster than my car charger charges it :|
there are so many things you can do with Athena that it seams a shame not to do them all lol - especially as I've just found the FUP on W'n'W Pro is 3Gb not 1

I ahve being using a Brodit one for a few weeks (albeit that it was the one from my Exec - I have only just received my Ameo Brodit holder) and it charged the battery no problem, even when using full brightness and internal GPS
My normal car charger charged my Universal OK - but fails with my Athena.
Today I didn't do a lot with my phone - listened to music on the way in with my BT headset, a few texts, push email running. Got it out at lunchtime and battery was dead - it was on red warning but turned itself off - I've been in meetings all mormning so haven't been able to charge the phone.
Something is wrong!
Could it be that the screen isn't turning itself off - I've noticed in the standard case it soesn't always when the keyboard isn't completely closed to the screen - but I am on default settings and the screen should turn itself off after a couple of mins inactivity anyway. Could WMP or something be keeping the screen lit?
Something is killing my battery anyone got any ideas?
I'm wondering if instead of the screen you have an app running in the background that doesn't go to sleep and continously taxes your CPU... could even be WMP... check with a taskmgr program to see what you have running or use another app to check your CPU load.
I haven't heard of the screen not dimming outside of Nav software, but saw plenty of misbehaving apps...
Battery saving while playing music
I have found "screenoff" an excellent help with this both for locking the screen (I now almost always leave the keyboard and case at home ) and for battery saving.
I'm beginning to think its that little screen which is soaking up the power.

Mine too, until...
I had an unbranded mini-USB car charger. When using TomTom, the effect was a net drain on battery power.
Today (and partly as a result of this thread), I tried the branded HTC charger that I had lying around (and that I thought would make no difference). Interestingly, I now have a net gain. (Started at 80%, drove around for an hour, charge is now 90%.)
Seems that all car chargers are not the same.
(Also the HTC charger has a natty, blue lit, logo; much better than the red LED.)

I'm looking at this one (am spending some time in our captial city next weekend) to extend the time between charges needed. Does this device resolve the 'pin out' problem and keep the phone charged? Has anyone else got testimonials about this? Its a not insignificant £40 so I don't want to bother if it doesn't solve the charge problem mentioned here and elsewhere with the differing pin outs. TIA

I'm looking at their product but I am confused. they specify that the advantage uses an 11 pin plug to charge when it appears to be a 5 pin USB mini-b connector. I don't know where they get the 11 pin connection from. also they SPECIFY that these adaptors can only be used with their Sync & charge retractable cable (thus implying that they are different from a std USB to mini-b 5 pin cable) this may be the case as I have tried charging my Blueant Z9 BT headset using a generic USB to micro (or mini-b 4 pin) and I get an overcurrent error on my USB port. It appears that the Blueant supplied cable is different.
Any Ideas on the HTC 11 pin cinnector referenced at http://www.pocketpctechs.com/images/items/LSP-DUOPRO01.jpg ?

i used to keep my phone in sync with my laptop for active sync but ithink that's what killed the battery so i dont do it anymore, just once before i am about to leave work.
can someone please give me simple tips/links where i can order one and get a battery and get on with my life.

Ok I will help you, this type of problem have been seen many times. But you will not find any type of problem in Extended Battery because I am using this from a long time and very much satisfied that’s why I am giving you the suggestion to use the Extended Battery for XDA and you will feel the quality and result. So you can eaisly buy it from the above link and your problem will be solved.
Better try this you may feel comfort and remember always give importance to quality rather than any other aspect of any thing.
Ok bye .
Have a nice day.
I bought one from eBay, like the ones linked above. All seemed great for a few days, but now it wont charge above 67%.
I left it overnight in the charger, the light showed green, but when I put it back in the M5000 it shows 67%. I've had that sat in the cradle for a little while now and the battery has actually gone down to 56% now, even though it says its charging.
Strange thing is, it seems to hold charge no problem. I just went away for two days and it lasted fine...

Weird Extended Battery
I just bought a 3200mah extended battery. When charging on the original charger it charges very quickly to 100%, but also dies within an hour going from 100% to 4%. I charge it on a different charger at work and it seems to charge much more slowly and once charged to 100% seems to run down at a normal pace. I don't know how long it lasts though as it's late afternoon by the time it's fully charged and by the time I plug it in at night it's still over 80%. Is this a problem with the battery or the charger?

HP 614c battery problem

Hi i have a 614c , it's brand new but the battery is really weak. I didn't format it first when i started using it , might this be the cause ?
Anyway, it lasts just for a day with a little browsing and wi-fi . Brightness is set to middle .The rom installed is WM 6.1 with Manilla 2D. What can i do to make it last longer, underclock the CPU , put another rom what do you recommend ?
Are you using 3g or 2g?
I find 3g chews up a lot of battery life.
I have a data plan at Orange and when it connects it says " Connecting to GPRS,3G" so it means i have it activated . How can i disable it ? Is there a program that can enable/disable it quickly ?

Hi i have a 614c , it's brand new but the battery is really weak. I didn't format it first when i started using it , might this be the cause ?
Anyway, it lasts just for a day with a little browsing and wi-fi .?

Hi,
After using my iPaq 614c for two months the battery depleted around 10 percent per hour without using WiFi, bluetooth or even the phone. First I thought it was the battery, but after replacing the battery the problem still existed. HP changed my model for a new one which is working 'as expected' (around 2 days on one charge).
I think that the charge part on the 614c was defective.
Have you tried another battery or measured how long your battery lasts when turning everything off ?

I did a test today , left it on at 100 % charge without the sim inserted and when i got back from work it was off with dead battery . Is it possible for the GPS module to be activated without my knowledge ?? It 's the only thing that can eat that much battery

Hi,
No, it isn't possible. GPS only kicks in when asked by some app.But almost for certain, it'll be your activeSync that always try to sync, wether connected or not. Search for the Server-source-trick to disactivate this behaviour.

Hmm,
My guess would still be defective hardware (as well). It seems almost impossible that the ActiveSync process can put thatload on the battery.
