Can anyone please help me set up Active Sync via Bluetooth!
I've been trying for days, I've tried both my Atom and the Wizard but I am getting nowhere.
It is different to Windows SE 2003 version (Jam).
Many Thanks!!
I'm assuming you already have bluetooth set up on your pc on one of the Comm ports so...
First, set up a partnership between your unit and the pc, i.e. set bluetooth on both to be discoverable by other devices and on your pda switch on bluetooth in comm manager, select "settings" then "bluetooth settings" select the "Devices" tab then select "new partnership" the two should find each other and you'll enter a code on the pda for the handshake which you then need to enter in turn on the pc.
Open activesync on the pc, select file then connections settings check the "allow connections to one of the following" box, select the bluetooth comm port from the pulldown. On your device then open activesync and select "menu" and "connect via bluetooth", from there it should connect.
Sounds easy but I find it works about as well as the Activesync 4.1 on USB, so erratically....
Should also mention that your initial connection cannot be via BT. You have to do it via USB first.
My home computer is an older version of media center. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the problem I'm having, but every time I hook up my phone through usb, my computer resets itself. No errors, no warnings, it just powers down and restarts. The phone works fine on every other computer I've tried (all were xp) and usb on my computer works fine with everything else I've tried it on (keyboard, mouse, hard drive, bt dongle). I've been trying to get it syncing over bt with no luck, I guess because I can't do it through usb first. Any ideas of what I could do?
Make sure when you make the initial partnership youve searched for the phone from the PC, then once you enter the passkey on the phone you can check the Activesync Service box. You cant do this if you find the PC from phone, it doesnt come up. once i did this, it was easy then. make a bluetooth com port on the pc and in activesync allow connections on that port.
Port doesn't appear
I can set up a pairing between my PC and the Wizard, but I never see the com port in the list in Activesync.
Doh! :x

you should the same comm port which shows in the bt configuration as "bt serial port" it's always shown with me as com4 (maybe it's deferent with you), but you have to choose the same port, otherwise it will not connect.
if the comm port does not show in the activesync list, then you should add a new incoming port through the bt configuration, and it will show the port # in the activesync list.
try that, it should work for you.
Hi all.
I have a T-Mobile MDA Compact, which I flashed with a big storage ROM I got from the FTP site (1.13.00 WWE). My device works fine, other than one thing.
I cannot establish an ActiveSync connection using Bluetooth. When I try to set up the connection on my device, when it comes to choosing which port I will use for the connection, there are none to choose from, and I am unable to complete the operation.
I can connect to other devices for file transfer Ok, and I don;t have any problems using a Bluetooth headset.
Does anyone know if there is an entry I can add to the registry to add a port manually, or if there is another way I can add a port?
Thanks.
Bump - can anyone help?
Thanks guys.
First of all pair your PC.
Then go to settings-tab system-Bluetooth settings and make sure you open your autbound COM port by clicking the checkox.
Press the button "start"
Goor luck!
Bruins3 - done what you said, but no joy. It tells me to then pair with my PC, even though it already is. Strangely, I can pair with my Magician from my PC, but not vice versa.
Once the two are paired, when I go to the COM ports tab in Bluetooth settings, I simply cannot add a port of any kind - no ports are listed in the drop-down box for me to select.
Help?

Forget it, Dont sync your magician using Bluetooth.
Its a big waste of time.
Ive spent the last hour trying to get this to work, and it just annoying me.
I have made my Magician sync with my computer over bluetooth before, Using 'Bluesoleil'. It's some sort of stack/ program, and for some reason my Bluesoleil doesent work anymore.
But someone made a thread about it, very detailed, and i cant find it anymore. Try experiment, and id be glad to know if you can get it to work properly.

Hi All,
I've been trying to get my TyTN to sync with my PC with ActiveSync 4.2 (and 4.5 beta) over bluetooth but I can't get it to work. Everytime I try to sync, I get a message saying the service doesn't exist on the device.
Has anyone managed to get it to work???
Advice please...
Dan.
Hey, I did manage to make it work. First of all you need to configure virtual serial port on your desktop/laptop machine, and make Active Sync use this port for synchronization.
Then pair your TyTN with your PC, when you're done pairing devices you should see "Active Sync" service available on your PC. Make TyTN use this service.
Go to ActiveSync (at PDA) and click Menu->Connect with BT... wiat a few moments, allow your PDA use the serial port (if necessary) and you are done
I use BT ActiveSync all the time (AS 4.2) with no issues.
Make sure you've done the following:
- paired both devices
- in AS Connection Settings, enable connections over the BT COM Port from your PC (check in Device Manager if you don't know which one it is).
- in BT Settings on the TyTN, be sure to select the ActiveSync profile on your paired device
I tried to create the virtual (bluetooth) serial port and, although it shows up in Device Manager, it doesn't show up in the list of ports in AS (4.2 or 4.5 beta). Any ideas why?
Thanks,
Dan.
COM 7
In Activesync on the desktop open connection settings and set it up to allow AS to use COM 7. The go to the TYTN and from the AS menu, select connect with Bluetooth. Message will say there is no existing connection and will get you to set one up. When the two devices have paired you should be able to select Activesync as one of the available services. Once that is done, go back to the AS menu on the TYTN, select connect via Bluetooth and bingo you are away. - or so it worked for me.
you should be able to select ActiveSync as one of the available services.
This is my problem, flash. There is no Activesync service on the device to be able to select. Just serial and wireless stereo.

It probably won't show up until you go to ActiveSync on the PPC, and choose Menu... Connect via Bluetooth...
It should reopen the Paired Device menu, where you'll find your desktop, and a new option for ActiveSync.
Consider this the final step after the previously described Pairing process.
I understand but, in my case, AS on my PC won't show the new BT serial port in the list of available ports (COM1, COM3, IrDa). Is there something I need to do after I create the BT serial port on my PC so that AS becomes aware of it?
Dan.
In Control Panel... System... Hardware... Device Manager, look under Ports. Do you see the BT COM Port? If not, you probably need to do some work on your desktop's BT setup...
Yes, I do see the BT Serial port in Device Manager but it doesn't show up in Connection Settings in AS.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dan.
Is the BT Serial Port service "enabled?" If that doesn't help, sorry, I can't think of anything else!

On my computer and Universal, I find it easy to setup BT Active Sync if I activate the setup on the Universal first using active sync app. There is an option within the active sync app to sync via BT. The computer will then recognize the device and will ask you if you want to pair it. On the other hand, if I try to pair them beginning with my computer to search for the Universal, after pairing and ticking all necessary boxes, it still won't sync.
After pairing and ticking all necessary boxes. Make sure you reset BOTH your computer and the Universal.
The problem is that when I pair my Universal to PC, not appear the service "ActiveSync", but "Serial Port".
I've already tried to delete everything and reinstall bluetooth pen, with his drivers and with windows drivers, and ActiveSync too.
I've also deleted all pairs and all port on Universal.
But I've not obtained any result.
I don't know what to make.
Can someone help me?
Please.
Nobody has had my same problem?
Any idea, please?
I had the same problem until I upgraded from Toshiba BT stack to Wildcomm BT Drivers stack (4.0.1.700).
Things I have learned:
- If UNI is connected via USB then AS service will not show in device pairing on PPC.
- You need to create an incoming COM port on PC and set AS to allow connections to this port.

I haven't change the bletooth stack.
Until some week it makes worked regularly, but an evening, I was configuring my Laptop to use the JJ like BT modem, when the AciveSync service has begun not to recognize more like such, but like “Serial Port”.
I've already tried to delete everything and reinstall bluetooth pen, with his drivers and with windows drivers, and ActiveSync too.
I've also deleted all pairs and all port on Universal.
But I've not obtained any result.
Yesterday, I have tried the synchronization with an other PC with a fresh installation of windows, but the result has been the same one.
Therefore the problem is on JJ, even in the registry.
I don't know what to make.

Please help me...
Don't know if this will help and I claim no credit because this solution was written in some other threads. For the universal with a Toshiba bluetooth on your PC:
first, pair your Universal with your PC, you get "serial"
On your PC, create the following "bluetooth local com" (Control panel)
- COM7 Toshiba BT Port (COM7) LocalCOM-Server[SerialPort(TOSHIBA LOcalCOM)]
- COM6 Toshiba BT Port (COM6) LocalCOM-Client
In your activesync, allow connection to COM7
Now comes the fun part. On your universal, go to your bluetooth settings, devices, edit your device and press "Refresh", possibly more than once. Serial Port will change to ActiveSync.
It worked for me.
Eric
Also got to the control panel on PC and delete the bluetooth modem that was created. When u add a new incoming port on PC make sure it's not COM8 because that is used by JJ for USB modem connections.
same on treo 750v
I have the exact same problem on my Palm treo 750v. Searched the whole internet for a solution and found some other people with the same problem but no resolution. The only recommendation that seems to work is to do a hard-reset.
The problem started on my device after I played around with the Soft GPS port. It seems that it screwed up some COM port references for good...
I had the same problem on my notebook with Toshiba's BT drivers. I uninstalled them and connected an external USB BT which fired up the MS default BT stack.
After I completed the pairing using Bluetooth Devices (in control panel) and clicking Add in the devices tab, I used the COM Ports tab and added an incoming port and copied the number of this com port in the AS connection settings.
Now, I initiated the AS over BT from the Jasjar and it said something like "it cannot find the service or whatever and would you like to create one". I clicked yes, when it took me to the list of paired devices. From here I did what leblan has also noted "your device and press "Refresh", possibly more than once. Serial Port will change to ActiveSync." I too found that the serial port changed to ActiveSync. The key, IMHO is to hit that "Refresh" button; i.e. once your device and PC are paired and connected, going to the BT devices and editing (press & hold)the device name (the notebook or PC in this case) you will get the services which will initially say serial port, but when you click refresh, it will change to AS.
jj activesync via microsoft bluetooth stack
both from PC and JJ :
delete eventually existing pair between them;
from PC:
if there isn't create a local service COM port. I created COM8 not protected, automatic start;
from PC activesync:
remove flag both for USB and other connections;
from JJ activesync:
try to connect, it ask for pairing, reply yes;
In "mode" flag on turn on bluetooth & make this device visible;
search for new devices, when PC has discovered complete the pairing;
after paired, you can see a serial port and other PC's services;
stay there;
from PC activesync:
now turn flag on other connections setting COM8;
from JJ:
refresh and You can see that serial port begin activesync;
tip OK for close all bluetooth setting windows, You are redirected in activesync.
enjoy start to sync
15hours of crying and knocking the device. i've successfully fixed it...
i did this (credits to google)..
Delete all paired bluetooth devices from PC and from MOBILE.
CAUTION - USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK <--- I used a registry editor for the mobile phone (google for regeditSTG2) and opened the Branch "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\ActiveSync" There might be a Key with a hex-String like this "0016cxxxxxx" --> delete it. Change the View to display the values in this Registry Branch, then delete the "LastConnected" Value and set the "Initialized" value to "0"
Turn bluetooth OFF>ON
Pair from PC
Confirm on DEVICE (dont need to select anything just enter code and press OK)
Go START->Active Sync->Connect via Bluetooth
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Voilla worked for me..
hope this helps someone else
hi gays
i can,t connect my device too active sync via bluetooth.my pc is addet to phone bluetooth devices,but 'com ports' page of bluetooth settings is empty and don,t have 'existing port' .so i cant add incoming and outgoing port for connect to pc sync.
i hawe install wm 6.1 ultimate (onyx 4.9) on my htc p3450.how can i solve that problem?it is possible change operation system made it?
What PC OS you using? My friend with Windows Vista having similar problem, but I don't have this problem with Windows 7.
I,m sorry for the subsequence too answer.that is xp sp2.
in my phone on the bluetooth settings/com ports , the "new outgoing port" icon is now showed (after i add other bluetooth mobile phones to my device),but my pc is not found in the devices list of outgoing port page.
Is your PC actually set to visible? Most arent as standard and has to be enabled via settings?
yes,my pc is added to phone devices list and i can send or recive file with bluetooth
Have your tried allowing activesync to connect via com ports? Check which com port your usb is using and select that. Could be worth a go.
(I use win 7 so have windows mobile device centre = easier. Activesync I forget the functions of)
yes friend,i already allowed that,but i have onli 'com1' in com ports in activesync.and when i click on 'connect',it will test that and sayd 'your device is not detected'
i only want too create outgoing port for my phone,and i think it can be worked only i can creat it for pc.
can you give the link of that software u.re used on your coumputer??it can be worked on win xp 32bit??

Hi friend,
I think I read somewhere in Onyx thread that activating "Beam" can solve some connectivity problems...
The software i used is win vista/win 7 version of activesync - works better from my experience and is more intuitive.
Also, in the usb to pc settings there is an option to enable faster connection or something like that. I do not have my elfs with me today to check the exact options - that may help though. I remember using it on my xp machines before when having issues. But again, I do not connect over bluetooth all to often.
finally,I get that the problem is from my bluetooth device
i used from a mini usb bluetooth device (that was plug and play).when i install the windows xp that i used on my pc on the laptab (with internal bluetooth) ,activesynk was working with no problem on that.
it resulted that te plug and play bluetoothes dosent good choices for general applications
thanx from all of friends
thanks for letting us know. I'm honestly not sure why I didn't question that as we get that issue all the time at work.... Its been a long time since I have been in support here though!
