Can i changing the T-Flash card while the Tytn is on, does it damage the phone? thanks!
Yes you can. When ever you pop in or out the mem card, your phone will recognize it by turning on the lights.
Oh.. icic, thanks.. i'm just change the TomTom Map from Canada to US, the part of US map take my whole 1GB memory card!
If you have the map software on two cards and pop in the new card, tom tom will actually start automatically. The card does have autoplay function like with Windows XP's, if there is a right file located at the root of the card.
so do you mean i have install the software and the map into the new card? or just the map? thanks, i'm very new to the GPS.
I have the TomTom itself installed on phones memory and maps on MicroSD card. Tom tom should recognize the maps from the card.
OH.... i installed the TomTom and map together into the memory card, can i transfer to phone memory now?
thanks!
I doubt you can just transfer it. I'm not quite sure how WM5 OS can handle moving already installed application to another location. You can always try.
i'm trying to reinstall it without remove the progarm. thanks a lot!

I have a Sandisk 1GB Mini SD (as a lot of people do...).
1) Sometime the system lose sight of the mini sd for no reason.
I just have to take the card out and in again so that it recognize it.
2) I noticed that with TomTom when you pull out the card while it is connected to GPS the Wizard crashes and I have to Soft Reset.
It is not very good behavior from TomTom but the maps are stored on the MiniSd so it is certainly a problem for him.
The problem arise when you combine 1&2.
The result is TomTom crashing every half hour.
It is not very handy to reboot while driving...
Did someone noticed the same and found solutions?
I use the O2 Xda mini S with TOM TOM 5.2 and a 512MB twin Mos card and dont really see issues of crashing when the program is running. I have seen the error where the "no maps found" message is displayed when starting the program, only very occasionally. I have also seen this on all my devices at one time or another, using the supplied TOM TOMcards or other cards with the maps copied on to them. The only real problem card I had was a Sandisk 512MB card which crashed all the time with TT5 on my Xda2s
on my previous ipaq also lots of problems with TT5 and Sandisk SD card.......even one time after the crash and automatic soft reset, the whole Benelux map directory was empty! So no more navigation possible, only after I re-installed with the original CDs at home :-(
The same Sandisk after that only used for digital photo camera, and after a week or 2, lots of problems...........bad sectors, etc, ..............
Conclusion: never a Sandisk mem card for me anymore (search the web and you find similar experiences).
I used to get this, not now (so far...)
I used to get this on my XDA II, I had a faulty SD card from TomTom which they offeredf to change, but I just bought a HUGE Kingston high speed one instead. I still used to get no maps, but a soft reset sorted that out. Yes it is s pain when you are driving, but ... I think it's to do with the SD car being powered from the battery. Sometimes the battery doesn't have the power for the card and when the battery hits sufficient charge level it suddenly gets recognised. It also used to lock up my XDA II and need a hard reset if TT kicked in because the card beacme recognised and then powered off whilst TT was running.
With my XDA Mini S (Wizard) and a Moby Memory 1Gb card I haven't had that probmlem yet. <fingers crossed>
I have the same problem with my 1gb SanDisk miniSD.
Sometimes my Wizard loses signal with my miniSD card and I have to reinsert the card before it will work again.
Spoke too soon
Wouldn't you just know it. As soon as I open my big mouth, my XDA Mini decides that it doesn't know the mini SD card is there. I needed to remove and reinsert the card to get it to recognise.
Pants!
OK I found another 1 GB Sandisk Mini SD.
I will be able to check if mine was faulty.
Or maybe just find out the same bug.
Pfff too bad I cannot find another brand.
Any news ?
Firstly I should say Hi now I have finally registered here after lurking for a while
Please excuse me if you have seen this posted on another site too, I really need help with this
When I put my SD card into my card reader or laptop (I have tried it on both), I get the message "The Disc in drive E: is not formatted, would you like to format it now?" So I press yes and it says... "The Disc in Drive E: Cannot be formatted".
Any ideas?
This is so frustrating, I know I can install things through activesync but I am trying to put TomTom back on which I need to do via the card reader. (BTW, I would never have got TomTom installed the first time around if it wasnt for this site )
Please help.
Are you using a fairly recent USB2 card reader or one you've had for a while. If its not a new one then you're probably going to have problems with a 2G sd card.
I bought it off ebay about a month ago. so it should be fairly modern, it doesnt work in the slot in my laptop either. I know that 2 gig cards are ok on the laptop as I use the camera SD with it no problems.
I have used SK Tools to reformat it, having done this I lost all my programs on the phone so I had to hard reset. After this I can open up the stoarge card on the laptop but when I try to copy my Tomtom over it comes up with a 'write-protection' error, no problems moving cab files over and installing via activesync. Although I cant install TomTom this way because of the file conversion.
Im wondering now if maybe the SK tools format did the job and maybe my problem lays with Tomtom, it worked before though so I just dont understand it.
Thanks for your reply. I shall have to try that program.

I had some problems with a 4gig sd card showing as write protected like yours.
I solved it by putting a folded piece of the thin backing film from a screen protector on top of the sd card when I put it in the reader.
The write protection is a small contact inside the reader and it just needed this extra packing to put a bit of pressure on the contact to make a connection.
after doing that for a week it now does not need the film so I assume that the contacts inside the reader were either a bit dirty or had some sort of coating that has now worn off.
Worth a try ??
Thanks, I really dont think its the card reader though as it doesnt work on my laptops SD slot either, and when I try to take the files for Tomtom over via Activesync it does the same thing. Installing Cab files is fine though. Im starting to think its a TomTom problem, which is odd as it worked before on my old card, both Sandisk Ultra II.

as stated above..
installed tomtom 6 but not recognizing the map..
drive me crazy..any comments are welcome..thanks
Has the map file been copied across as well?
I take it you have installed this to your storage card on the MicroSD. Are you sure the MSD was large enough to take the installation?
Have you got the GPS unit recognised and working with TomTom?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_FAQs and look most the way down the page and there is an entry there for you
I have just installed TomTom 6 and everything went well apart from the installation of the voice.
I'm using the TomTom Home application on my PC and it reports that there is no room left on my device, even though there are several Mb in storage and extended rom and over 1Gb on the card.
Any idea how to get it to read correctly?
It's connected OK as it will instigate a back-up and display the items installed on the SD card. Activesync is working fine.
Thanks.
I have one problem. When I am using Tomtom and I am charging Trinity at the same time I lost gps satelite receive. And after some time Tomtom freez. But Tomtom doesn't realy freez. I just press ''end call'' button and then small icon of Tomtom on bottom and I could navigate for some time again. But this freezing repeat every 2 min.
Why?
Bye
Borut
TomTom freezing has been a problem for some people. It may be to do with the MiniSD card. Can you put the card in a PC card reader, copy the contents to the PC, then delete all the files from the SD card, and copy them back via the card reader.
It also helps if you have the main TomTom Navigator files in main memory, rather than on the card.
I've been running TTN6 on the WM6 ROM with no problems at all, though it did keep freezing when I had the Navigator files on the SD card.
