pim.vol file format - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hello,
I have a lot of contact information stored in an LDAP server. Now I want to write some code to extract data from it and pump it into a pim.vol file for my HTC TyTN.
Where do I find information on the file format of this pim.vol file ?

Setting/Opening protected *.csv files using VB.NET

Is there any source code where I can set password on *.csv files using VB.NET (not encrypting it)
And when i'm opening the file, how do I create a textbox for it to let me key in the password?
Files in csv format are plain text files. There is no way of proctecting the contents without encryption.
Your program can pretend the file is protected by asking username and password but this is of course not a real protection for the contents of the csv file.

To dump the files run the file in the archive attached from sd card. It will create a folder on the card will all files. Courtesy of mamaich

Hi all,
To allow study of Wizard ROM, could any kind people dump the file of Wizard WWE using the TestWM5.exe attached in the post above (have to login to see the file) to dump the ROM to MiniSD Card?
The steps are actually quite simple:
1. Extract TestWM5.exe from TestWM5.rar and place it to you Wizard.
2. At the Wizard, use File Explorer to execute the TestWM5.exe
3. Click "button1" to start the dump process, the file will then be save to \Storage Card\Dump\
4. Copy the Dump folder out and then RAR or Zip it
5. Upload to ftp://xda-developers.com/Uploads/Wizard/ using account "xdaupload" with passwd "xda"
Thanks in advance!

Force Pocket Outlook to reload pim.vol

Hi everyone,
I'm kind of manipulating the pim.vol file, and when I copy one over the original, and the try to modifie it (using the any api), I can see that the file used by pocket outlook is not the one I just copied.
One easy solution is to soft reset the pocket pc, and then pocket outlook read the new pim.vol, but this is kind of boring.
So my question is : does any one know how to tell to pocket outlook to reload its pim.vol file with having to soft-reset.
P.S : I've already tried to kill the poutlook process, but then everything is going so unstable that I don't think this is the way.
Thanks for your help guys.
Ed
You say you're "kind of manipulating the pim.vol file".
Does that mean you have a description of the file format at hand ?
I'm looking for it.

I have the backup of PIM.VOL from AKU2.x and AKU3.x of my contacts before upgrade but Aku2.x PIM.VOL files are totally useless in Aku3.x. So better use outlook to backup, that is the safest.
They are of very different if you view the files in hex mode.
Those from AKU2.x seems to place the phone number before name and AKU3.x seems to place the name before the phone number.

Contacts Folder somewhere????

Is there a folder somewhere that has contacts stored in it? It might be in some code or it might not, just looking for a way to send a file of contacts through email. I have SPB and know the other ways, but really want to find a folder with the information in it. Does it exist? Thank you.
Ok found it. it's pim.vol in the My Device folder. can't do much with it as it's basically read-only and cant even delete it. so copyin and pasting won't work as the original folder can't be written over or deleted. sure there is a workaround somehow...
If you sync with a computer, you can export everything to either individual VCF files through Outlook and then zip them all together, or export as a list of comma separated values. Not sure of the best way to do it phone-only, though.
