Is there any way to remap the 'file explorer' shortcut(dot+'->' key) to open up Resco File Explorer instead of the built-in Windows explorer?
I'm interested to.
I think you should be able to do that with AEButton Plus
http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
You may try to edit HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSFEXPLORE. For string "1" change it to be a full path ("\Program files\...") of the Resco Explorer. It may work, but it will lead to launch Resco everywhere instead of built-in Explorer also.

Doesn't work for me.
Changes are still there after a soft-reset but it still doesn't work.
I am also very interested to remap dot + '->' to Resco Explorer instead of the built-in Explorer.
I tried with AEkmap, but it does not work. The reason is that you this key does not have a code number (using the scanning AE application included brings not key code, so it is as if the key did not exist).
How is that possible ? would it mean that the button is hardware linked ??
I just tried Moskus idea to use AEButton.
Unfortunately it does not work, it is the same problem as with AEKmap. When adding a button, you have to press the button so that the remapping app can catch the key code, and dot + '->' provides not key code.
How is it possible that an button provides not key code ?
yeah....i asked b4...but no one able to gv me the solution...
It can be done AFAIK.
I've written an app that can change that key, the PTT key and the video call key on Hermes to launch whatever you want, but it's not being released yet.
V
What is the PTT key ?
As for the video call button, it is different that the dot + '->' button, because you can catch the code number of the video call button using either AEButton or AEkmap.
I know it is possible to overwrite ROM file (Flexmail is using this feature), so it should be possible to overwrite the .exe of the built-in explorer with the one of Resco Explorer. Just an idea.
PTT key - on some US versions appararently Button 5, the record button, is tied to the Push To Talk feature. Sleuth has done a great job re-enabling this button.
V
Bingo! it WORKS !!!
I just tried it.
Just one thing, with these ROM overwrite the app instead of having the normal Resco Explorer icon, has the built-in icon (although the app running is Resco Explorer).
I am using Wisbar Advanced, so the icon does matter as it is used in the running app list.
The best is just to change the registry link (contrary to what someone said above in this thread, it works)
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSFEXPLORE}
"1"=\<path to resco explorer installation dir>\Explorer.exe
and the icon is the right one.
Can someone find the link in the registry that is specificaly used by the dot + '->' key ? same for the Wifi toggle button ?

Will you release it one day? I'd love to use one more hardware button, currently 100% useless (video call).
Just use AEbutton or AEkmap, as I said the video call button has never been a problem to remap.

The dot is the first button on the bottom row of keys on the hardware keyboard and the -> is the last key (right arrow) on the bottom row of the keyboard.

Probably it depends on ROM version (like PTT), but AEBPlus does not allow to add Video Call button for me. For me, this button is no different from green phone from apps point of view.
AEButton doesnt work and neither do the registry changes.. hey V, are you going to release that app??

"AE Button Plus for HTC Himalaya/Andes/Alpine/Magician" extends functionality of hardware keys on HTC Himalaya/Andes/Magician platforms. It allows you
- remap each standard hardware button to 2 or 3 "virtual", simulated via double or triple clicks;
- use volume slider to simulate Up/Down direction keys or create additional "virtual" hardware buttons;
- remap Red and Green phone buttons to 1,2 or 3 hardware buttons each.
As a result you may define up to 15 hardware buttons (system limit)
List of Compatible devices (See HTC Platforms)
- HTC Himalaya/Andes: O2 XDA II, I-Mate PocketPC, T-Mobile MDA II, QTek 2020
- HTC Alpine: O2 XDA2 IIi, I-Mate PDA2 (Not PDA2k), QTek 2020i
- HTC Magician: O2 XDA mini, I-Mate JAM, T-Mobile MDA Compact, QTek S100
- There are reports of successful use on E-Ten M500 device
DO NOT INSTALL THIS APPLICATION ON THE INCOMPATIBLE DEVICES!!!
- This may hide or incorrectly redefine hardware buttons until hard reset!
- But you may still try to use this utiliy on any PDA with 4 buttons normaly available in Start - Settings - Buttons. Please make full device backup before experiment.
Details -> http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus_t.html
This is great, the only thing I can't work out is how to change the initial settings i.e. how many logical buttons each physical is mapped to, except at install.
Just reinstall app. I put CAB file to my SD and mark as Read-Only. And if need change initial settings, just reinstall app.
Yeah, that's what I've done too, it's more of an minor annoyance than anything. The other things I've noticed is that it puts an invisible icon in the task bar and can't handle the Pocket Plus 3 (Alt-F4) and (Alt-Tab) settings - you can assign them to the extended buttons but they aren't retained because they're not shortcuts and don't get stored in the registry.
Again, these are just minor niggles, it's still damned useful, I'm up to 12 button assignments already, going to be running out soon!
Hmmm, for me all PP3 functions work fine IMHO bug is if U set on CAMERA button Enter and APPLICATION action For me after this setting CAMERA button not work as enter and not run anby assigned application But this is really minor bug for me Bigger bug is AEButtons not work with HOLD hardware buttons Coz 3x clicking not so easy must have expiriens for using 3x clicking
I am using this program for a while. So far I found a problem if I using it w/ PocketBreeze. If I enable "scroll w/ D-pad" on PB, AE Button+ never response to the first button press. I already email the developer but no response so far.

One question. I don't seem to get an icon on the task bar, just a functional (the menu works) empty space. At first I thought this was intentional but I've seen the icon visible in screen shots - any ideas?

I just purchased this app with the sole intent to remap my volume keys to the very needed scroll up and down that's missing on the Touch Pro2. I remapped volume up to: Single Click=Press Up arrow Key, and volume down to: Single Click=Press down arrow Key.
It isn't working. Can someone provide step by step instructions how to change volumes to scroll? Have emailed the developer, and he has not responded.
Thank you!

Hi,
I want to close program (and not just minimize) with the hardware "OK" button. Is it possible?
thanks
Use HTC X-Button for example
Are you sure? I try but I found no option to do this. Just for the "X" button but not for the hardware "ok" button.

Just go to Settings > System > X-Button and choose the Button tab.
Then you can select "End programs by tapping the x":
Should be the same action if you use the hardware or the software button imho...

edit:
ok, just tried and you're right, using the hw-button doesn't close, just minimize....
But i am also using HButton (cannot live without this great tool), with Hbutton mapped to button 3 (that's my ok-button) it's working fine....
And it's also fine with Hbutton: when you're on the todayscreen, the tasklist in the upper right opens by using the ok button....that's very comfortable.
ok but on my device I can't assign action for all these buttons, I just can assign action for the 2 buttons on the right side : camera button and the other one(with 2 fonctions : tape, press&hold)
you are looking in the wrong directon. go to settings>system>task manager, then check -Enable the X button blablabla- checkbox. choose the method and have fun
This is the same that i already told him in my post #4.
His problem is the hardware-button. That was the same "problem" on my device.
Tapping the ok button on the screen closes correct, but using the hardware button just minimizes.
In addition with Hbutton now my hardware-ok button also closes correct.
@nicolaa: I'm using another phone (Artemis), can't you just assing hbuttonX to the needed button ?
It does not matter which Hbutton you're using, you just need to map it to the needed button in wm.
for example/better understanding: you can assign Hbutton5 to Button1 in WM, that's no problem.
sorry, i posted my reply after seeing your first post (you mentioned x-button instead of task manager). alternatively, he can use spb pocket plus plugin, after installing it assignes _close_ action to _ok_ button by default.
actually i see no point in closing apps constantly (which of course in most cases are frequently used ones). is is enogh to periodially close all active programs from memory menu. IMHO.

yep, search the forum for hbutton should be version 2.2 i think, allows you to assign up to 5 functions per button, the nice thing is that if you just want 1 button reassigned it won't screw with your other butons. when you install it i adds the ability to minimize or quit. so it will do exactly what you want. also can be set to vibrate or beep when the button is held down to signify that the second function is being run.
Just for knowledge quick menu 2.7 also allows telling the ok button to close apps.

Thanks for the advice! However, will it allow me to tap OK button to minimize then tap and hold to CLOSE? I played with it before but it seemed like when I assigned "OK/Close" to the Ok button, a single tap CLOSED the application. Basically I want the two opptions on one button, and to never have to touch the X button ever again.

You have probably seen a lot of suggestions thus far but this is probably the easiest. HTCTaskManager does exactly what your looking for by default. A press minimizes and a press/hold closes.
Small foot print. Easy to use.
Curious G
If you, like me, use your Topaz for frequent music playing, and find the default volume control (the large full screen version) very irritating, there is a way to enable the slim version of the control which appears for wmp for any program you want.
The slim version only works using the volume keys, you can't touch it, but it offers at least 15 steps and doesn't interrupt the music. This "hack" has finally made the Topaz a viable music player for me

Using a registry editor (I use Total Commander), navigate to HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\3rdPartyAPClass and you will see a list of apps which use the slimvolume control. You have to add keys (new folders in Total Commander) for all the apps you want to add.
Under these keys you have to create a String value containing the Window Classname of the app. You can get these names using a program like FdcSoft Task Manager v3.1. I've listed a few of the common ones below to save you the time.
Create a Key: "Nitrogen"
Create a String Value called “ClassName” with value "CNtgWndMain"
Create a key: "CorePlayer"
Create a string value called "ClassName" with value "wCorePlayer"
Create a key: "Opera"
Create a string value called "ClassName" with value "Opera_MainWndClass"
And so on. Take care to get caps and lower case correct, and don't include ""s. If you get the window class names wrong, don't worry, it just won't work till you get it right.
The settings take effect immediately, no need to restart.
PS: If you're not confident editing the registry, best not to do it. If you do, take great care, don't accidentally delete any keys!
And is it possible to add a key for the touch-flo music app?
Wow thanks for that, is alot nicer now .
I use my topaz as my mp3 player everday, had my first journey using it today with wm6.5 and it was a nightmare. Couldn't use coreplayer unless i held the phone in my hand, otherwise if i put it in my pocket it would just press random keys. Going into suspend mode by pressing power key just stops playback so i had to use the default htc music player which i really dont like. How do u put it in ur pocket with coreplayer if u cant press the suspend key?
Also the volume button doesnt seem to work in suspend mode like it used to either which is really annoying when im sitting on the train as i have to take it out of pocket everytime to change the volume.
For me so far as an mp3 player its not as good as it seems to have a few little problems

I don't know the answer. I'm afraid I only lived with wm6.5 for one day before rushing back to 6.1, there were just too many minor issues for me to live with.
Can't you lock the phone using the long press function on the "End" key?

I wasn't aware the volume keys worked in suspend mode anyway, but I could be mistaken. They work in "screen off" mode (you can do that through Coreplayer's menu "Menu - Options - Blank Screen". This might be all you need to do when putting it in your pocket, because it stops random screen taps I think.
find wkTask (haven't got the link - google it)
It's a little app that places itself in the topright corner over the X (replaces the X with it's own X)
It has the option to turn of the backlight
It is also possible to make a shortcut to wkTask w. commandline parameters - so that you can make a shortcut that turns off your light.
It also recognizes vertical and horizontal swipes from the X (swipe right or swipe down from the X) - these swipes can be assigned to different actions. In your case you could set it up to turn off the backlight on a swipe
wkTask sounds a nice app. It might be good to disable HTC's own task manager if you use it to avoid too many apps running unneccessarily, you can do this in the registry.
Thanks again Pete_S . Also that program sounds very useful acebone, thanks
Enable Landscape:
1. Use a regedit and head to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\Rotation\" and open "HideOrientationUI".
2. Change "Value Data" to "0" from "1".
3. PowerOff and PowerOn again your Phone.
Set Landscape to "Answer" button:
1. Go to "Start/Settings/Personal Folder" and run "Buttons".
2. In "Program Buttons" tab at "2. Assign a program" select "<Rotate Screen>" and you are done.
After these, every time that you hold the "answer" button screen will rotate from portrait to Landscape and vice versa…
Additional Parameter for Landscape (thnx to "alex_lynx"):
1. Head to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\Rotation\" and open "LandscapeMode".
2. Change "Value Data" to "1". Turn screen to left (Default is "4" = Turn screen to right).

It is mean that I need to install registry editor into phone? Where can I get the application?
Yes. You chave to install registry editor or advanced config in your phone.
I think uncle google will help find them.
advanced configuration tool:
http://www.touchxperience.com/en/advanced-configuration-tool/downloads.html
totalcmd can edit registry:

After i couldnt install the Configuration Tool i found a App as CAB and edited the Registry and it worked.
Im german and my mistake was to search for "rotate" that was not in the menü.. When i scrolled up there was a "rotate Screen" in german and then it worked.
to access your windows mobile registry you can use CEregistryEditor by mdsoft.pl instead, it runs from your PC via the USB / MS activesync, so you can use your keyboard and big TFT screen to search and edit, make bookmarks, do comparing, backup, softreset, etc

I recomend Schap's Registry Editor or PHM Registry Editor.
This was one of the main issues of the phone.
I have a question, does it work with the keyboard as well?
Can you write in landscape, on a bigger withed keyboard?
