New Prophet Restarts after 45% battery life - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Hi I was in Hong Kong and I bought the O2 XDA NEo the problem is that everytime I hit around 45% the shuts off, if I try to turn it on it will go to the windows splash screen and go into a restart loop but if I charge my phone it won't happen. Is something wrong with the phone or the battery is diffective?

How long does your phone last on a battery? And what are you using with that (e.g. when you always have bluetooth and wifi enabled the battery won't last as long as when you don't have those enabled).
Because it could be your battery is faulty, or the chip on the battery is faulty (from which the % is read).
If your phone, fully charged, lasts for a few days (3,4,5 depending on what you do) it doesn't seem the battery would be faulty but the readout is not that good.
Have read things before about phones shutting down when it says there is still 20% battery left or something which might just be a mis-reading. When I use the battery of my old magician the readout seems to be fine although when I use the battery that came with the prophet I saw it shutdown once at 10% (though I never make that, because it's always charged before that point ).

its actually gotten worst now it will shut down at around 60% and will go into a restart loop if I try turning it on

hmm, something is not right (doh). I recommend you bring the device back for servicing.
However, if you have a battery laying around from a magician or another prophet try it with that one and see what happens. At least you can rule out the battery/device. But otherwise you can leave the tech-guys to that

I did order a new battery from ebay but its not here yet so I can't rule it out and as for repair it will be kind of hard since I bought it in Hong Kong while on a vacation and now I'm back to canada.

so I finally got the battery from ebay the 45% shut off problem is gone but now I have new problems, I notice with this battery the neo runs slower which dont' make sense and for some reason it won't charge when the neo is off only when on, also it won't charge pass 89% so the light on top is never green??. The first thing I did when I got this battery is fully discharge it until the phone shut off and recharged it while its on because it won't charge when it's off? any ideas or did I get another defective battery??

Hmm.. that's weird. Did you upgrade it with another rom perhaps (e.g. AKU 3.2 or something). Because those roms sometimes have troubles with charging.
But the phone should be charging allright when you turn it off (well, make it go in standby that is). Or do you completely turn the device off?
Can't imagine you have 2 faulty batteries though :/ Maybe there is something wrong with the device? Hard to tell...

completely turned off and I'm using 2.3 rom LvsW_Edition

great I tried flashing to the dopod rom got an error and stuck at the 3 colour screen i think its the bootloader what do i do now?

erm... well you could try the 2.20 qtek rom which seems to be working well for quite some people (found here).
Although you have to make sure you read that thread good and use the ROMUpdateUtility_NoID.exe (found on ftp) to upgrade (or you download RUU-Prophet-G4-AKU2.2-2.20-2.47.21-Jester-r1.exe and take the ROMUpdateUtility_NoID.exe from that using WinRAR, but it's wasting bandwidth a bit ).
Update instructions:
1: With the qtek 2.20 rom you need to extract the zip and the exe file in the zip with WinRAR.
2: Then there is one folder called 'OutputFile' and a folder called 'RUU_TOOLS'.
Inside the RUU_TOOLS there are some other folder (prophet -> WWE), when you go through them and in the WWE folder you see a bunch of files (readme.doc, enterbootloader.exe etc etc).
You need to copy ROMUpdateUtility_NoID.exe to the WWE folder with all the files. And you also need to copy the 'nk.nbf' file to the WWE folder (from the 'OutputFile' folder).
3: And then you need to put your phone in bootloader mode and run ROMUpdateUtility_NoID.exe to upgrade, which should work nicely then.
Hope that was a good and clear explaination

I just reflashed the rom with LvsW_Edition and it brought my phone back to life but I still have the 89% problem but thanks for your help anyways

Well, I have no idea what could be wrong.
My phone charges when it's turned off, so I guess it must be a phone problem :/ Maybe a charger problem, but that seems unlikely.

well I don't know what happened I guess after the 2nd discharge the phone is stuck at 98% charge now not 89% I dont' think it's the phone or the charger since the old battery that dies at 50% charges with the phone on or off, I'll keep discharging this battery maybe it will eventually bring it to 100% full charge

I had enough with this battery its completely unusable with this battery in my phone it slows down so much that navigation is impossible, I have to reset the damn thing every time. I was reading on a post here regarding a 1800mah capacity battery for the prophet so I bought that on eBay and sending this garbage back.

Failed Backup Battery

This morning when I turned on my imate jam, it immediately went into a hard reset. Once I had a chance, I checked the battery levels and the unit claimed my main battery was at 67%, and my backup battery was zero%
I have had my Jam 9 months and have never had this sequence of problems before. The screen was not left on overnight, and there were no applications left running.
Can someone help me understand how the backup battery could be drained and the main battery be OK? Has anyone else seen this behaviour?
It will take me several days now to 'rebuild' my Jam with all its apps and settings......
Had the same problem with my JAM. Happened about a month ago for the first time and then again today.
My battery indicator also showed 0% Backup and 67% Main Battery.
Downloading newest ROM update tonight. Will post again if problem persist.
I was using version 3 software, and have since upgraded to v11. What version of s/w were you using?

Oh man, that's the worst Coincedentally I've had a sudden HR myself only yesterday when I restarted my laptop with phone still connected via USB. Luckily I make a full backup every couple of days using Sprite backup. Works like a charm, not a thing lost, everything was put back as it was before the HR
I upgraded to version 1.12.00 WWE.
Everything went well until yesterday
Still the same problem
No response on using the on/off switch only a clicking sound sometimes. LED indicator flashing red.
Soft reset no effect
Had to hard reset.
After booting up - backup battery 0% and main battery 75%.
I phoned the distributers in South Africa and they think it might be a battery problem  . I am loading my new battery for the required 8 hours tonight. Will post again in about a week to report on progress
I also use Sprite Backup and set it to do a backup every night. It works very well a restore my system without any problems
I have an MDA Compact, I am also on ROM Version: 1.12.00 WWE, and have the same problem.
There again, I had the same problem before I upgraded recently too, so I can't say for sure whether it is a ROM problem.
Like the other posts, I am very careful not to leave BT, incoming beams, backlight etc. on. I also shutdown any running programs I am not using.
Yesterday, I had to do a full restore (using the Backup.stg file over ActiveSync) which worked a treat. Still, I am very frustrated over this intermittant backup battery drain problem. Especially when the Main Battery is showing over 90% full.
This "feature" seems to be a common problem.
Any other thoughts?
One week with a new main battery and .....
So far so good. No need for any hard resets this week
Had a message of low backup battery once after installing SysWatch Trial but system power utility showed full backup battery. Hopefully this was only a software problem as i didn't get it again after uninstalling syswatch.
Just a quick update
My problem seem to be something of the past.
Look like the main battery might have been defective after all
I have similiar problem since 3 weeks ago
HI,
My Imate Jam has rom version R 1.12 D 1.13 WWE
and since a month ago it started showing 0% backup battery.
I called PPCTECHS because they upgraded my jam to 128RAM and they told me to force a hard reset.
I did it and it worked for a coupled of days but jumped from 0% to 100%.
Then anytime I do a SOFT reset it shows me the message BACKUP BATTERY VERY LOW and the led is always flashing while the pocket is off or on 24 hrs a day!!.
I will buy another main battery and try your recomendation.
I am very desperated.
The led on my Magician is always flashing as well when the pocket is off or on
24 hours a day, on battery use.
The "backup battery" is the internal battery of the device and as far as I know is not user replaceable. The purpose of the backup battery is to give you 35-40 minutes to change the main battery before you lose everything in RAM. Replacing your main battery will not resolve the backup battery issue.
PPC Techs give 6 months warranty on their workmanship so if the backup battery issue occurred after the upgrade..contact them again and see if they can do something about it.
Thanks
I already ordered a new battery, but will contact PPCTECHS anyway. Thanks
Just an update.
This problem is gone. Looks like it was the main battery. Maybe a problem charging the backup battery?
I think it's a common problem. I bought a O2 XDA mini in German last year. And when it was shipped to China. I flashed GER rom to CHS1.3 Rom. When I got it, this problem still happen. As I checked it, it's backup battery problem. So today my colleague brought it back to German. Because my O2 XDA mini still under warranty. Because there are two years warrranty for O2 XDA mini in German. I hope they can help me solve this disgusting problem.
I had a similar AND slightly different problem. My phone died to a hard reset and then turned off soon afterwards. Instead of a red flashing light, I had a CONSTANT red light, (I think this means hardware problem???)
I removed the battery and re-installed it, did the hard reset keys, everything and the unit would not turn on. I charged it for one day straight, still would not respond. I then charged it for another day. Still nothing, (except for the constant red light). I had plugged it into the USB cradle and the battery charger separately but nothing helped.
I then (2 days later) plugged it into the USB cable at work, and this is where it gets REALLY weird!
The unit turned on, but the LCD has flashing, (like a loose connection), alternating between difference brightness it seemed. Once the hard reset stuff was over, I check the battery and the backup was at 28% and the main battery was at 94%.
As I left the unit to charge, (with the screen still flickering like crazy) it screen got better and better, though it sometimes still flickers a little.
Now, (2 weeks later) the batteries seem fine, I haven't had a battery issue since but this is the STRANGEST part!!! I can not increase the brightness beyond the third tick. If I move the brightness beyond that, it doesn't get ANY brighter! So I'm basically stuck right now at 3 brightness level only!
I tried a friends battery, and it was exactly the same, (brightness level), so I don't think it’s the main battery. Anyone have ANY ideas???
Hello
I had this problem for quite a few months,i did what some of u did and i bought a new main battery, and the backup battery was back to life again from 0% to 100%.
But everytime that i take off the main battery all my data goes in the same way as before even when the meters say that is on 100%.
Can anyone tell me why?is that a hardware problem with the backup battery?
if it is how can i get this battery? i've being searching on the internet and i couldnt find any shop that sells just one unit of this battery (Varta V18hrt).
Hi!
Varta V18hrt: where have you read that Magician use this battery for backup? Do you know how to replace it?
Thanks!
i took the backup battery out,so i could see the battery that uses!!it's quite tricky to put it back again!!
Today my magician took a short fall from ontop of the computer (which is on the floor) onto the carpet - no big deal I thought, but now it gives me the No Backup Battery problem.
I'm backing up all my apps and junk now since it fortunately hasn't done a hard reset or anything.
This seems very common, are the backup batteries in these things considered flakey? Difficult replacement?
Will have a look once I've backed it up.
Hello
As far as i know with the problem that i had, the problem wasnt the backup battery, just some problem with the main battery for some reason didnt charge the backup and make look like that it wasnt any battery there!
hi..
i've also got this problem.. my backup battery show 'none'. i've charging this
unit till its full..but my backup battery never charged up.. maybe its the
main battery problem. unable to charge backup battery.
by reading this threads it seems man battery problem.i'm gonna try to buy new battery(main)...and try charge again..thanks for

JasJar crashes at 35% battery power

Hello,
I need your help with the following problem:
I have been using my Jasjar for 5 days now and I have a problem with the battery.
As soon as it gets to 35-40% battery power the unit switches off without any notice.
The only way I can turn it on again if I put it on a charger, and than it turns on again like after a soft reset.
I installed the latest ROM from the clubimate but none 3rd party applications.
Please let me know what can be this problem.
Thanks,
Zsolt
same problem here
Hi Ronaldovic,
Have you tried with another battery or just the original?
I was advised to change the original battery as that might be faulty but I couldn't get a new one yet.
Zsolt
For the O2 XDA Exec the battery has a 6 month warranty. You should check the situation with the JJ
battery issues..
I had similar issue and also where on switch on the screen light goes off and back on. This seems to be linked to battery chargin "top-ups" therefore sometimes the supply from the battery is not continously smooth. Try fully draining your battery and charging fully
I have same problem with my Exec. Any solution ??
I buy new battery but...when it gets to 25%, still switch off. So I dont think it's error of battery, may be it's bug of ROM for Exec???

1 month ago I have same problem. I think is not battery.
I make upgrade by all the ROM (JAS JAR, QTEQ, MDA PRO ecc.) but the problem I have not resolution, and 2 week ago my pda (MDA PRO T-Mobile) go in htc warranty.
Sorry for my bad english.
I have also noticed this problem a few days back. My Jasjar switches itself Off when the battery goes down to 22%.
I never used to have this problem when my Jasjar was with the original factory installed ROM version which was 1.13.53 WWE, Radio 1.03, ExtRom 1.13.137 WWE. When this ROM was installed I used to get the first low battery alarm at 20% and when the battery went down to 10% the screen would dim out and the SD card would deactivate, but still the unit would not shut itself out.
I installed the updated ROM when it became available in March which is 1.30.76, Radio 1.09.00 and ExtRom 1.30.164 WWE.
I am not too sure if the problem is linked with this ROM as I usually never allow my battery to run that low. However a few days back when I forgot to charge my battery I noticed this problem. I repeated this deliberately a number of times and each time the Jasjar shuts itself off exactly at 22%.
Just wondering if there are any solutions yet.
Regards
Same here, device just dies @ 26%. Was going to buy a new battery, but that might not resolve it?? *sigh*
RE
This battery issue has been discussed in two other similar threads.
In my case I just changed the default battery to a OEM one and everything works fine
Isn't the default battery an OEM battery? I'm tempted to buy one of the 1750 mAh batteries off of ebay (original JasJar battery is 1650 mAh) - is that a bad idea?
Try overnight charging of the battery for one or two days..this will solve yr problems...
Hi,
hard reset to your device, don't forget to get backup contacts, sms and data.
battery issue
I've had similar issues. Screen goes blank when battery low, plug in to charger and all is ok. What I've found is sometimes, not always, the battery screen brightness has gone to 0, but on-mains is set for full brightness. I never changed it, so maybe the device is trying to save power itself.
MNB.
Same here. My Jasjar dies sometimes when the battery is on 60%, 50%, 30%, 20%. etc. If I use the internet or camera or something then it will go dead, but not everytime.
Sometimes I can use anything and it will last till about 10% when the SD Card disables, then I charge it.
Don't know what to do. I don't want to buy a new battery if I'm not sure that is the problem.
Yes the same on my O2 Exec. Crashes at around 32% no matter what. Only remedy is to put it on charging again.
This started after I upgraded to the lastest O2 Rom; prior to that there was no problem whatsoever and I could go down to single digit battery percentages without any issue.
Is it the new ROM? Is there any work around to this malady?
Thanks to all who reply, in advance.
Cheers.

So can we say that downgrading does not fix it, or removing certain software combinations?
has anyone actually proved that replacing the battery works or not?
With the issue this widespread (and across carriers) has anyone tried to contact HTC about this? I still have my doubts that this is ROM related, seems more likely to me that many of the initial batch of batteries have gone bad.
My battery is on order with expansy. Expect it in the next 4 to 5 days and will definitely let you all know of my experience with the new battery

Another Jasjar Battery Drain Problem!

Hi all, i have developed this weird problem in my jasjar and i'm sure it's some settings that need to be changed somewhere and not the battery itself. When i first got the jasjar, it gave me a good 48 hours battery backup on standard use but i lost my charger and started using usb to charge it. it's since then that my jasjar drains the battery in less than 12 hours. i have tried replacing 3 batteries but to no better effect. I remember reading something about the Li ion polymer batteries having the memory effect or something and how to reset that in the bootloader mode. if you guys could help me figure it out and fix the problem, i'd appreciate it! here's the details of my rom.
R:1.13.00
G:42.47.p8
D 2.01.06 wwe
the rom is the wm6 from jwright.
(nb: i had the same problem with my shipped wm5 rom and i thought upgrading it would help but it didnt apparently).
How long do i need to use the battery to check the drain thingy. the reseller tells me to use it for 2 weeks before judging it. i'm screwed with having no battery life to this otherwise beauty of a device! if i could get any help, it would be much appreciated. thanks in advance. (josh).
Had the same problem, been happening all week, the phone would just switch of even though it registered over 80% charge. no i am happy again because i read on the forum that you need to totally discharge the battery occationally for it to get to a full charge, it appears that there is some sort of memory effect where the battery thinks it is nearly discharged, try it, i am sure you will find that it workes.

I too has a similar problem but this method did not solved my prob as my jasjar switches off by itself at 40%.
I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago as a charge would last less than 24 hours when I used to be able to last 2-3 days.
Soon sorted it when I found that the Jasjar had decided to disable the automatic switch off, now a charge is back to lasting 2-3 days.
Mike
Had my MDA PRO for 1.5 years, and never had this problem. Battery lasted for 2-4 days on average, although now I have a 3200mAH battery it lasts for well over a week on a single charge
Lithium ION and Lithium ION Polymer (the HTC Universal uses the latter) do not suffer from any "memory effect". The only battery type that does to any significant extent is Nickel Cadmium, which is rarely used these days.
It's also impossible (well, almost) to completely discharge Lithium ION Polymer batteries - internal circuitry in the battery shuts down the cells when the charge gets too low, at up to 10% charge. This is because a completely discharged L.I.P. battery becomes unstable, broken (unable to be recharged), and runs the risk of explosion or leaking in this state. So don't attempt to drain those batteries completely dry folks - it's dangerous! Letting them run down naturally in your Universal should be safe though because of the cut-out mentioned above.
Maybe the Uni just has a large batch of bad batteries? You should also check what apps you have running on it all the time, and how often you use bluetooth and wi-fi - these two REALLY drain the battery if you keep them on all the time... Also try MemMaid, this is great at cleaning up your notifications queue, which is where lots of apps leave old and obsolete entries clogging it up.
I have the same problem. I do not know where the charger is, so I am always using the USB while syncing. I also tried 2 batteries, but they both last about 12 - 14 hours. Maybe it is caused by WM6.
I did not quite get this solution:
"Soon sorted it when I found that the Jasjar had decided to disable the automatic switch off, now a charge is back to lasting 2-3 days.
Mike"
What is the solution?

btw aj had the same prob. appeared after 6mnth. i bought new battery. btw here is several threads with same prob. try 2 look for solutions there(imho its only one-new batt.)
I feel like I'm walking on eggs...I bought my Jasjar used on eBay just over a year ago, still the original battery. I almost never use the 110v charger, always a USB conection with my Mac, often recharging at 55-75%. I just intentionally ran down my battery to 18% (got warnings to recharge), and recharge via USB/Mac again. It took me almost 4 days to get to 18%, and Bluetooth is constantly on for ready use with my earpiece.
Curious: are the problems with original or replacement batteries? Cheers,
Update to Radio 115 or 114
It's worth taking into consideration that when flashing, you really need to have a full battery. There are reports of batteries starting this kind of behaviour after user has flashed with drained battery, then causes battery charge issues until next reflash.
IMHO even if u charge with a full charged battery still u get a prob so i think its a common issue with the jasjar and its power managment software itself by default as lot of people with diffrent ROMs are complaining about it.
no changes...
well, folks, i tried all these gimmicks but not to any definite changes ... i guess i need to consult the service center guys at last...i didn't want to do that but i guess i need to. i'm sure it's not my battery as i've replaced 3 of them...i dont kno what else to do!!! thanks for ur posts tho as i get to try diff things to check if ma battery is doing ok...keep postin...thanks...

how 2 discharge a battery >>>>>
problem with battery?
I have the same problem, it firs appear on original battery when charge was 40-50% so I have bought the same battery model (1620mAh). But it doesn't help. Now I,m using the 3200mAh battery and it doesn't help as well. The thing is that XDA switch off it self always on deferent charge level (sometimes is on 20%, 45% ar 80%...so is very difficult predict when it happen again). And one more thing...when it switch-off and I try to switch-on back, I can't (keep switching off), only slolution is put on charger!!!
I have downloaded the service manual (I think called "confidential") and it mentioned that it could be a problem with main board (so its HW problem). So can anybody tell me is a problem with bat or MB? (replacing the MB is fcjfdj$#ing expansive). Thanx.
well if your XDA does not switch on until you start charging it that's a clear indication that your battery is empty. I have the same with my faulty battery. Replaced it by a working one and it's fixed. Something is definately messed up with the charging circuit or the batteries though. They are not supposed to die so easily.

The first time I flashed the PDA I ruined my battery. This time I thought I'd be smart and I put in the old battery while flashing. After flashing I put back the new battery and now that one is broken too! It wasn't even in the PDA when I flashed it. How bizarre is that?
I have to admit I did not fully charge that new battery before flashing, but I figured it would be safe since it wasn;t in while flashing. The battery worked fine the day before I flashed my phone (got the "charge now or save your work" message), but after the flashing and putting it in, it just crashes at around 30% or 40%. The usual battery misery.
Maybe I should try fully charging it and then flashing again. Trouble would be how to get it fully charged though. I always felt charging cuts off early on the "broken" batteries (pull the charge plug and stick it back and it charges for a while again).
I managed to restore my battery to good health by completely discharging it in bootloader mode.
First I completely charged it. When the led went green I pulled the shcarge cable and connected it back again. After doing this a few times it doesn't stay orange so long and then I stopped and left the cable disconnected.
I reset the phone (on full battery) and then I set the unit to boatloader and waited for it to completely discharge. I reset the phone again (on empty battery) and low and behold my trusty "charge now or lose data" warning came back.
BTW I reset the PDA hoping maybe it would store the power levels. I remember that trick from my Palm days where sometimes you had to reset a PDA on full battery to calibrate it.
I charged it back to full capacity and started using the phone as normal. When the battery was empty I got no crash but a friendly warning telling me my battery was going low. Phew.
Will try the same with my other troubled battery over the weekend.
I have the same Issue.But , I think it's about Rom.
and I'm try a lot of ROM version ,only one Version canbe use more than 3 day.
I can't find any reason ,.
discharge in bootloader ,I do it ,But battiery is same time for used.

Battery dies in less than 24 hours.

Hi guys.
My wizard battery lasts less than a day. I hardly use it. Wifi and other radio are off most of the time.
I tried changing ROMs, radio roms etc. I even got a new battery but to no effect.
Any help ?
I had that problem until I found out that activesync was staying active even after I unplugged the cable. I never found a way to keep it from doing that though so now I just make sure activesync is shut off wheneve I disconnect it. Kind of a pain, but it beats the battery dying on me.
Well ill make sure Activesync is off.
But do you think the problem would persist even after I changed roms!
It did on mine. It's something to do with activesync itself apparently. It doesn't stay on as often as it did when I was using T-mobiles ROM, but it still does it occasionally.
make sure your extrom is ok, because a corrupt extrom is also a cause of battery drainage, better yet there was a rom floating that only erases your extrom (blankextrom), i forgot who made it but its from the wizard forums
found it, go to post number 7, look at the sig below there is a link for the blank ext rom, enjoy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311225
guys, please take a look at here, i think we have the same issues, but i have the t-mobile wing (htc herald):

Maybe your battery is bad. Buy a new one on Ebay for small cost. I bought mine for like 7 euro`s including shipping (battery itself was € 3,5). Also disable mail fetching every few minutes.

i tried two different NEW batteries straight from tmobile and the problem persists. and mail checking is on manual, which means only when I click send/receive
I'm pretty sure mine was caused by activesync running even though it wasn't connected because ever since I started making sure it wasn't running after disconnecting it from the cable my phone hasn't had that problem at all.

i end-tasked (closed) activesync from running in my phone when i went to sleep, and when i woke up i lost 50% battery again, (with all radios off)
Some programs can drain the battery. As an example, I really like PhoneAlarm, but it drains the battery tremendously, I think it's because it polls different system parameters. This polling causes the battery drainage.
Also, the way to stop activesync from turning on by itself it to create an exchange server account. I use mail2web, it’s free. After you set up the account on the phone, when you go to the activesync menu, hit schedule, then set it up for manual.
After I set this up, I never have a problem with activesync. You can do a Google search to get the step-by-step directions on how to set it up.
Also, charge the battery with the wall power cord, try not to use the USB power. Each one uses different circuits in the wizard. I also let the battery drop below 10% before I charge it. My battery lasts about 4 days.

Like calouro said, there are other programs that can drain a battery pretty quick, mine happened to be activesync. Since you shut it off and you still get battery drain then yours must be a different one, possibly a today plugin if you didn't have any other apps running in the background.
Just had a thought, you don't have any today plugins such as weather panel that are set up to update over gprs on a regular basis do you? If you're turning your radio off and it can't update it may be trying over and over to update and draining your battery.
no i don't have any today-addon or plugins, i have batterystatus installed but this problem persists even without batterystatus and it does this even after a fresh HARD reset, which tells me this is a manufacturer's program or hardware causing this flaw, i'm not the only one with this problem, there are others, look at our discussions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319897
Yah, I read that post. Did you try not turning off the radio over night and see if that sloved the issue?
I've changed batteries. Using a brand new one now.
No active today plugins or anything else. Dont even have activesync running. Made sure I exited that. Still no help!
how did you flash?
i think it may be extrom prob, as someone said earlier. if you are flashing with shelltool, extrom(corrupted or not) is not replaced, when its broken, shelltool rom change will not help.
second thing is "fake connection" for activesync to stop it from turning on and on in searching of sync.
third thing is using soft, that is waking up/keeps machine awaken somehow...
xeno1 said it all before...
i think it may be something installed from good extrom too(extrom holds programs which are installed after first boot)....
one more thing:
after >60 flashes i noticed, that level of battery while flashing may be reason of fast nrg loss.
If it was 50%, machine(even charged to the max after flash) drops fast to 50% then drop slows down - wise thing is to let it discharge to ~5-9%, then charge to the max. After 1-2 such operations battery is ok.
It is useful, even if battery was full(machine "learns" about battery as it is new - sth like that).
there are no miracles.
sorry for funny english..
HEre's something funny that happened.
Before flashin a blank extended rom I had 73% battery. Once the flash was over I had 100% battery.
Now I'm tryin to drain the battery with backlight and phone and wifi continously on. Once that is done, I hope things will get better. I'll keep posted with what happens.
Even after a full recharge, the battery now doesnt last even 12 hours. And this is me not using the phone at all. It's just been switched on and kept that way.
And no thebacklight doesnt stay on, or the phone doesnt stay on (it goes into the standby mode as it should)

yea if i don't turn off the cellular radio then the battery only loses about 1-2% overnight (9 hour sleep).

[Q] [Help] My battery is draining too fast, some soft problem ?

I bought this Hero off eBay, and it was dodgy since the begining.
The phone had cyanogen, and was restarting itself occasionally.
So i wiped it, installed 2.1 and it got fixed, but now i have a problem with battery drainage.
Its insance, 10minutes-10% im pretty sure its not supposed to be like that. with or without wifi/3d turned on, its just riddiculous.
I borrowed battery from a friend, and that didint make any change, i installed latest update from the autoupdate in the phone and still its bad. I read somewhere here that its faulty email app that keeps on trying to sync and drains battery, how do i fix that ?
I did a full wipe, cleared cache and everything back to factory settings, with no apps installed it goes from 100% to 0% in an hour.
I downloaded 2.1 from some android forum, as i was unable to find one here (there are only links to 1.5 on the xda.wiki WHY?)
If you can point me to a proper 2.1 (or higher?) software to download that doesnt do this crazy **** i'll be happy as infant on crack.
Please help, here is my software information:
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26
Kernel version: 2.6.29-063c4d24
Build number: 3.32.405.2 CL191507release-keys
Software number: 3.32.405
Browser version: WebKit 3.1
Try calibrating your battery it gave me a huge boost on my hero... went from getting 16hours day.. to about 30hours on a single charge!!
Every time you flash a new ROM you need to calibrate your battery. The battery meter in the OS (Android in this case) is generated based on the battery stats file.
Battery stats is erased when you flash a new ROM.
Easiest method of battery calibration when you're intending on flashing a ROM:
Ensure battery is fully charged according to the OS. Switch phone off, unplug charger and plug back in. Once light is green, leave charging for another 30 minutes (light goes green at approx 95% charge).
Switch on, flash ROM. Allow first boot to complete.
Shut phone off. Disconnect charger. Remove battery. Replace battery. Place on charge, light green, leave charging another 30 minutes, yadda yadda. Switch phone on, boot immediately to recovery. Wipe battery stats.
Boot phone up. Now would be a good time to install JuicePlotter. Use as normal. Do not charge, let the battery run down completely. When the phone shuts itself off, power it back on. Repeat process until it won't switch on anymore.
Remove the battery. Put the battery back. Turn the phone on. Repeat until it won't turn on anymore.
Now charge the battery on the mains to 100% while the phone is off, keep charging for 30 minutes after light goes green. Power on. Voila, fully calibrated battery.
The last part, run until completely dead and charge only needs to be done once in a while (this is calibrating the battery innards, not the battery stats)

hah, yea thats what i accidentally figured. phone was switching off, but when i powered it back on it had 30%.. and it was like that 3 or 4 times.
I ran it down completely and now am charging it till max, we'll see what happens. at worst i'lkl start your process from the beginning thx !
I diidnt know you had to do that. i've been playing with my G1 and not even once i had to calibrate that.. maybe i should
How'd it go? Any improvement on battery life?
it diidnt help I did what you quoted step by step and its still running down the battery like crazy :/ what else can i do ? im thinking of switching to 1.5 but thats just not progressive and my friends phone is running fine on 2.1, with the same battery even.
Edit: i've installed task killer and killed all the mail checking apps.. hope that is the problem
Edit2: it didint help at all, in 5 minutes i lost 15% fcuking hell !
I just switched to 1.5 and its still happening ! I using a different battery and its just as bad... why is this happening to me
ill try second to latest radio from xda wiki.. im running out of ideas, what else can i do ?
That really wierd... its not the battery if you have tried using different ones. Its not the ROM if u have changed it.
Have you tried disabling auto-updates? and auto-checks for emails. Which email client do you have? you should find the option to "sync-never" in the app settings.
Buying it from ebay is kinda ominous though.. was it described as faulty? perhaps you could contact the seller and request a refund is all else fails?
you can try using setcpu to underclock the cpu.
i have similar situation as you. before going to bed around 11pm, it showed 50% left, turned on airplane mode, then in the morning around 6am, phone was powered off.
now it has been 2 days, still have 20% left.

Did you ever take into consideration that some part of the hardware might be damaged?
Devices that got water damaged, sometimes show weird symptoms as well:
- They still boot up and seem to work well from the first sight
- The battery drains very quickly
- Some of the peripherals are not working stable or not starting up anymore (e.g. wifi, bt, gps)
- Other crazy things might happen as well (e.g. random reboots, backlight flicker, etc.)
So you might have a look at the mainboard. Red stickers indicate water damage!
Regards,
scholbert
Yea but if it were damaged would it show 50% battery after restarting thinking it had reached 5% ? i dont have the tools or will to unscrew it.
i paid 100 pounds fo it, the normal price of a used hero, but the auction said "phone restarts for no reason" and they do not accept returns, so im propably screwed :I
I had an old blackberry 8300 curve, i had it in the bathroom while i was showering, got too moist, turned the detection pads red but phone seemed to work fine after i dried it out. But the battery went to crap progressively in the manner. I would charge to 100%, take it off the charger and maybe an hour it would say less than 10%, do a battery pull and it would go back up to maybe 80% and last maybr another hour and keep doing that till it would normally drain on top od the numerous reboots i would be doing until eventually it would just drain and die.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Can dead pixels cause this ? i have like three.. but then again why would it show 50% after restarting from 5%..
the thing is its not draining the battery, just registering it wrong
Any updates on this? Any resolution?

sorry mate i have tried everything unsuccessfully and returned the phone to the seller.. dont tell me you bought it ? (london)
No, but i have a samsung galaxy tab and experience similar symtoms. It does not bother me too much, the battery life is still great. Just the percentage is off and i need to restart from time to time.
I read similar complaint from droid x forum too.
