Bought a replacement screen from them, arrived within the week. Fitting is a pain (Have numerous screwdriver marks around casing from levering open), but not impossible. I did it all by trial and error, though, so if there are instructions available, FOLLOW THEM!
Comes with a free torx screwdriver for some of the screws, but you'll also need a VERY small philips head too (Small enough to mend a pair of spectacles).
If there's no tutorial, I may write one for here.

Busted Outer Glass of LCD

Well I dropped my G1 the other day and it busted the outer glass part. The LCD is fine and it still works perfect. I have looked everywhere, with no luck of finding any parts for them. So I called HTC and they told me 150-250 to replace the glass!! So I was wondering if any one know anyone that does G1 Repair or if anyone know of another phone that has more ava. parts for it with a 3.17" Screen? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Nope, I got AT&T. Was thinking of taking apart the phone and getting the glass measurements and having a custom cut piece of glass.
i believe its a special type of glass
Pretty much stuck buying the glass from HTC on this one ...sorry
PS... it is glass
iphone 3g - Dream lcd
I read that the same screen is in use on the iphone 3g, I doubt its true they probably meant type or sumthin, maybe worth a check...
on the old palm pdas you could replace just the glass if the layer under it isn't damaged, this may no longer be possible with these screens, once the bigtime flashing begins there will be lots of bricks available pretty cheap, maybe you should keep an eye out for somebody who pooched the dev bootloader install then after you convince them they killed it you could buy it maybe for less than the HTC price...
gotta say, that sucks if you were a tmob customer you'd have a few options...

Hello. Don't you think It's weird that it happened to me too today?
I've never had a broke phone since my Nokia 8210.
Well, some idiot had placed out one of those kinds of plastic bands you use to seal packages with, a black one.
It was pitch dark and I fell as the plastic ring got snared around my feet. Obviously my Jabra bt3030 got pushed against the screen and it got severely cracked.
My insurance company seems to be covering the whole phone except a small sum. This was from the phone part, but I got to see if I can get something from the health insurance as I hit my head and scratched my hand (though not likely but I can always try)
The touch seems to work most of the time, though it reacts slowly but some times It's just dead.
This really sucks.
I'm dead serious when I'm talking that there was no way that the band could be seen when walking.

It is glass. But you can not simply cut a piece of glass to the same dimension as the touchscreen is integrated into the glass cover. So yes you will need to get a htc or aftermarket replacement part.
The interesting thing is that the repair cost you quoted is identical to the cost of the copay if you go with the Asurion device insurance T-mo offers. So device insurance would just be a waste of money at $5 a month if you end up with broken glass.
Looks like I will just have to hold onto it until aftermarket parts come out. I busted mine by letting it slip out of my hand while talking on it....then it took a 6ft fall to eventually land face first on concrete.....I didnt even wanna pick it up cause i new it was messed up and if it wasnt I was gonna call HTC and give them props! I have a ava. upgrade from AT&T Maybe get a Iphone until this one gets fixed then sale iphone on ebay for 5x wuts its worth.
The iphone's screen seems to crack pretty nice as well.
I hope changing the glass on the G1 isn't as frustrating as on the Iphone.

Cracked screen replacement with compatible HW from third party --when?
I cracked the LCD of my G1 after about three weeks and have noted that neither PPCTechs nor MobileKangaroo have yet acquired a source for the replacement screen.
My understanding is that HTC currently charges what one thread in another forum (http://www.allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4226) quoted as "a minimum of $238.00" to make this repair.
I expect this repair to be offered soon by third parties for about $150, likely using a non-HTC screen product to replace the damaged one.
Has anyone heard any reports about forthcoming availability of such hardware? If so, then are there any non-HTC services to make the replacement?
yeah im looking for this too...i dropped mine and then proceeded to step on it day two with the phone.

This waht i found out
so have the same issue and this is what I found out
so from my understanding there are 2 part to the lcd the outer glass touch sensor and the inner lcd. if the the screen is just cracked and you can see the image the u have to replace both. attached are the part descriptions fromt he g1 service manual. and below is a link of a site that sells them, but for some reason they sell the touch scrren with the outer bezel making it cost more. i called htc to order just the touch sensor glass but they said the dont sell replacements, they just fix em

I contacted the seller of the screen and he/she told me that It's only the screen. If the G1 cracks It's the digitizer glass that cracks first. Then if you are unlucky the screen cracks as well. I managed to only crack the digitizer glass. The screen beneath is totally fine. Unfortunately removing the glass from the digitizer plastic was very painful and I managed to wreck the flat cable of the digitizer so that's beyond repair. Now I tried to disassemble the whole phone but I got stuck at removing the housing. First I had problems with the Torx bits. I have some Torx bits in my sets but the lowest I got was T8. I had to buy a cellphone bits set with a lot of different types of bits. It had Torx all the way down to T4. The T5 and T6 was what I needed. There are 4 T5 to remove and one T6. I have inserted the sharp plastic between the housing and the top case and released all hooks but it seems the front and back part of the housing of the phone is dead stuck.
You have to open the whole damn phone from the back to get to the inside of the screen. Why the screen housing uses standard Philips is also beyond me. I have lots of bad experience with standard Philips screws. The heads always get bad after a while of screwing. I have yet to have a problem with Torx.

Anybody needs Jade with scratched display?

My Jade is about 6 months old. It was in my pocket one day together with my car keys. And the keys scratched the screen. I tried to polish it with toothpaste - it worked for me before, but not this time. Actually I wiped off those deep scratches, but large part of screed is not clear, it is dull. I think it needs replacing the screen or the covering part. Other than that it works OK. I managed to get different ROM version on it, now it is running Megajade 6.5. It is too difficult for me to have it repaired, so I would like to get rid of it. Maybe in this forum there is somebody, who needs that for parts or who is able to fix it. I do not want to sell it, just to exchange it for anything you may think has similar value. For example flash memories, digital camera, sata hard disk, ham radios... I am in Florida.
A complete case should cost you some 80 bucks (bought from eBAY), including labor. Next time cough some 10 bucks for a screen protector foil.
Good idea
Well I found new case for $48, so I will go for it. Thanks
A new digitizer screen (the screen you touch) can be purchased on ebay from GBP6.00 (8.50US) and quite easy to replace with instructions elsewhere on XDA and other web sites

Anyone who had replaced screen

Can anyone who had changed there screen please come in and briefly say what out was like and where you ordered your posts from. And would out help to order the lcd and glad together already? My glass broke. Lcd is still responsive. Any input would be amazing. Thank you.

I got my parts from ebay. DO NOT buy from Chinese sellers, as I did for the first digitizer I got. It was a poc and did not work correctly.
Make sure that the digitizer/glass plug is solder-less (if you have the T-Mobile version) or solder-required (If you have the Europe Version). The LCD's have T-mobile and Europe versions too.. (Solder vs Non-solder)
(Digitizer/glass -used but I got mine with 2 light scratches) http://cgi.ebay.com/US-OEM-HTC-HD2-...ltDomain_0&hash=item4cf402d564#ht_2819wt_1139
(LCD -check to see if it is broken, most of the time, only the digitizer/glass is cracked if you drop it. If you can still see everything perfect on your LCD screen, that means it is still good and doesn't need to be replaced): http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-HD2-LCD-Dis...ltDomain_0&hash=item5643ed807d#ht_1123wt_1139
Yea the lcd still looks right and still responds to touch. I just wanted to heart from some people who have done this before. I called the shops in town and nobody will touch it. I have watched a couple videos so I know how much of a pain in the arse it is gonna be. So stay away from the chinese sellers huh? Anybody else have any pointers? I was gonna buy the glass and lcd together so I can skip the whole put the screen in the oven step of disassemble process.

You can try to heat the digitizer/lcd/frame assembly with a blow dryer, but baking at 60 C (200+ something F?) it is probably easiest.. you can avoid burning fingers like I did. It's pretty hard to get the lcd/digitizer seperated from the frame, even if you try to use a hobby knife and pry it off.
Most of the time, the tape holding down the lcd/digitizer doesn't come cleanly off, and you will have to buy some special 3m tape to hold down the digitizer/lcd.
You will have to buy this... (I know its a Chinese seller but it isn't electronic so there aren't any issues, I haven't had issue with my Chinese tape either and it seems to be official 3M tape) http://cgi.ebay.com/3M-ADHESIVE-STI...Accessories&hash=item1c1cd79a1e#ht_2064wt_905

well its happened. i dropped my bloody phone

as the title says. i dropped my hd2. and cracked the screen.
i love my hd2 and really want to fix it , is it easy ?
and if its a pain in the ass to fix what new phone should i get . ?.
i am thinking of trying to fix it as love the phone , i have abit of experiance and am willing to give it ago.
can someone give me some advice pls ?
There are plenty of threads if you search. I dropped mine last week and cracked the screen, too. General consensus seems to be that its pretty complicated. I decided to spring the hundred bucks to get the screen fixed. Cheaper than a new phone and I knew it would be done right.
Even the experienced tech I took it to had to do it twice cause he messed up the first time

Not that hard, takes a while
I've had to tear mine down (US Tmo HD2) several times (outer back case broke, mid housing cracked below buttons). I'm not violent, apparently living in Florida and having a windshield mount were bad for the plastic.
Allow about 3 hours from start to finish. You can go quicker, but I'm a stickler for detail. Make sure that you:
1. Order the 3m adhesive tape (lots of it available for cheap on eBay) as it makes life better during assembly.
2. Verify the parts (touchscreen and LCD) match your phone, EU and Tmo-US have different connectors internally. EU requires soldering, Tmo is a snap connector.
The videos here http://http://techcrunch.com/2010/03/02/official-htc-step-by-step-video-for-disassembling-the-htc-hd2/ make it way easier. Most of the touch screens, LCDs, and combos touchscreen/LCD kits on eBay come with a #5 torx and a case opener too. I've had good luck with part quality, hope it works out for you.
And if it doesn't - I am looking for a mainboard and front buttons, either 512 or 1024.
I changed LCD and touch on my own little time ago.take your time, be gentle and take care for the flex board(especially volume button connection is really fragile) and the connector latches.then you will have no problems.and yes, buy the adhesive tape as suggested.I took the wrong one witch I found out to be a little to thick after the device was almost put together completely, so by time I have to redo the job with the correct adhesive tape as it does not look perfect now.

[Q] Display repair: What should I do?

Hi
Ok,my HD2 is broken since October and I'm a student and i just couldn't afford the repairs. All I know is that - it seems like this - the connector to the display is not working anymore (common problem I heard).
But honestly I have no idea what to do:
Money is still a bit tight so I can't really buy a new phone.
On the other I couldn't even figure out what to repair. I know the display is a whole unit (LCD and touchscreen glued together) and somewhere in between is the connector, which lost his contact to the mainplatine.
But all I find are the plastic frames with a connector ( http://www.algogo.com/store/product...er-HTC-HD2-II-LEO-T8585-.html?setCurrencyId=2 ) [I have no idea what digitizer means..i always thought it's the same as the touchscreen itself but that's not true.]
Or I find things like this LCD+Touchscreen or even cheaper this .
I know I need the big connector cable as mentioned in the first link of the digitizer offer but here the connector cable is suddenly on the side and not down to the keys...
Well, but it's the whole display package so I guess I need this...
I already have the right screwdriver for this work but I'm still not sure what to do/if it worth it.
Ok,the 70 Euro plus shipping..that's cheap but on the other hand the HD2 is already a bit old (but I still love Windows mobile and what do keep that).
So..any clues..suggestions?
my suggestion is to go for.. buy any LCD+Digitizer pre-assembly pack, check this videos link
and try by your self..
also many informations about the procedure you will find here link2
or here link3
take your time and you will be successful repair it at your own..
Thanks your these links but the thing is..I already know them and tried it as far as I could (which is why I already have the right screw driver for it). In the end I just scratched it more and more...
The thing is..I'm not really good at this - especially the display removing and heating part of the job. So I thought I could bypass that by simply replacing the whole display unit. Ok,still 70 Euro if I chose the second ebay link but that's way cheaper than the other ebay offer plus really really cheap compared to these send-in repair shops from the internet (about 200 euro then).
I'm just not sure if these are the right components or if there is a cheaper offer somewhere else.
I bought my LCD+Digitizer for 55USD with the shipping costs, from ebay.com.
It was from a China seller, not an OEM item for sure, but after all, my LCD was as a new one!!!
I also needed an adhesive tape like this one.
you should remember that you will need to detach the LCD+Digi from the middle metal plate frame bezel
and the only way is with heat. I tried with a hair drier..
And all went as is should be..
I'm sorry to dig this thread up but I just found my old HD2 and wondered if I could get it back to work.
Of course I need a new battery and stuff but actually it's still ok.
The concerning part is the glued display and the heat you need but now the HD2 gets older and the prizes drop so I saw a complete display (the glass, the screen and the touchpad-layer) on amazon for 60 euro.
Would you go for it?
I'm not quiet sure how to disamble the device but there are videos for that. And then it should work, right? There is no glue or duct tape or anything involved if I swap the whole display-component, right?

From the research I've done you'll need either super glue or 3m double sided tape.
