Phone calls monitoring App. Exist? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

hi. I've a kind of flat rate with an italian operator, and i'd like to know if there's an app that can monitor my calls, so i can be alerted when i go over my limits for the day and month. A kind of "spb gprs monitor" for phone calls.
please any suggestion? thanks,

Search this forum for dktoday

any alternatives? even shareware

I like to know too. I (and some users) find the DkToday slow things down terribly . I used to soft reset my phone every 2-3 days because I find the Today screen is terribly slow.. and later some users mentioned that Dktoday slow things down, and I tried removing it from Today, and it now, I hardly reset my phone. So, I won't recommend Dktoday unless it works well on your phone/ROM.

Give Hudsonmobile Phonedashboard a try. It may be the answer to your requirements

I'm using PhoneDashboard for the calls and IP Dashboard for monitoring internet traffic.
Ciao

I used PhoneAlarm (Shareware) and also add PhoneProfiles with schedualing , GRPS usage and Phone usage

Phone Dashboard?? Is it good or not?

Hi
I was wondering if someone has any experience with Hudson Phone Dashboard. I'm looking for a prog that keeps all the info about my calls... and I can see statistics from. Something like the GPRS Monitor from Sprite but for phone calls.
I download the trial, but I found it quite buggy... The info I got is not really realistic.
So I was wondering if someone has experience with this prog or do you know any good alternatives???
Many thanks
Erik
1. Noticed no bugs - use it for 4 months.
2. Non-realistic info is caused by the quality of settings... =)
My opinion: programme is just OK - nothing extra, but never had any troubles using it
Hi bob190cm
Do you know any manuals of this prog for the settings?
Thnx
Phone Dashboard settings
you can find the settings over here : http://www.hudsonmobile.com/products/phodash/docs/phodash.htm
if someone find a serial for this program, can they give it away? (by PMS)
thank you
FYI: The serial is tied to the name that you have supplied in the owner info....
I've found a terrible bug. If I turn off flight mode (when I was flying and in meetings) then upon reactivating the cell phone the counter goes into the thousands. One day I clocked about minutes and then turned it off. When I turned it back on my clocke read over 3500 minutes.
Had to remove and reinstall the program to get it to work right again and this can be recreated pretty regularly as I did it again today.
I am using an O2 payg sim which gives me 300 minutes free wap over gprs, it is possible to use these minutes also on the gsm number to get full internet albeit slow. The problem is that even though I have inserted the number under M2M/free in dashboard and told it I have a 300 minute bucket, it doesnt see it as a dialled number because it isnt dialled via the phone keypad or by pulling up a contact then dialling. This means that it isnt monitored which defeats the object somewhat because I want a warning when these minutes expire. Is there a way to rectify this?
I've been using the PhoneDashboard from Hudson Mobile and it's been pretty good at keeping track of my minutes and such. I even bought it, it's a great application.

T-Mobile MDA

I just wanted to share my experiences with my new phone so far. The T-Mobile MDA (I'm not sure what version it is, it's the only one for sale at T-Mobile right now) is an awesome phone.
Just today I learned how to listen to streaming Sirius satellite radio, and I enjoyed the sounds of dance music by the pool from Windows Media Player on my phone.
The things I hate about this phone are the battery life (it's horrible, especially if I have Bluetooth on all day for my Bluetooth headset or am listening to streaming music), the bad Outlook syncing (I don't know how to set contacts in a group like Personal and ONLY sync Person contacts with my phone), the GPRS connection is bad... I guess when I don't have service it disconnects itself or something, I don't know how to always keep it alive. Also, downloading things from this forum from my phone doesn't work, it downloads the file download.php when it should be downloading the actual file instead.
Are there any solutions to my problems?
How to keep your GPRS alive
1) Go to the following registry entry:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A3 *****}\Connections\GPRS*****\"
2) Change "Always On" 0 into 1.
Thanks, is there anything wrong with keeping it on all the time?
Any battery saving enhancements or longer lasting batteries?
Battery
I am still looking into that GPRS issue myself.
I am not sure Kenny, but I read that there are two battery versions
for MDA vario. The standard version that is included with your device, and one that is a little bit more expensive, but will give you 50% extra power.
Please do a search on the net.
Tried this... my device will auto disconnect anyway.
JaySea,
Please try again,
It should work.
If it disconnects then something else is blocking it.
And even when it disconnects, it will connect by itself again,
about 2 minutes after disconnecting.

Do a soft reset, then see if it works...
I'm a total n00b with the T-Mo MDA so please excuse the question.
To view the registry entry must you connect to a PC and access from that or is this done in the phone itself?
Thanks.
Viewing the registry...
You can check/edit the registry on your handheld device with (for example) Resco Explorer or Total Commander...
okay, I'm confused. Is this the right version of Total Commander? MDA has an xscale proc, right?
Sjaakman: Thx so much for the tip.
My MDA has excellent battery life, much better than my previous iMate jam.
WiFi drains your battery life quickly. Set your backlight to the 2nd lowest level and make sure it is set to turn off after 1 min - if it's on all the time that takes a lot of power.
Maybe your battery is bad, see if you can get it replaced.
I'm a newbie in this subject on PDA phones, I just acquired the new MDS Vario T-mobile and don't know many of the great features that some of you mentioned here. If there is any way that I can find more information about the usage of the phone, please send me a PM to guide me through in my initiation. Every bit of advise will be much appreciated.

Battery Good overe here
My battery is good it last a long time for a device of this magnitude, also I foud a thread on here about increasing frame rate of the cam from 10 to 19, well i did this then enabled the frame rate counter, it stayed at 10.06 or so. But yesterday I turned the fram rate enabled thing on again now its showing 30-38 frams a sec for video and 15-16 for Pics!!! I dont know y, anyone experience this!!!
Web Access via Wifi or GPRS/Edge
Hello, I am new to TMobile and the MDA; I have had it for 4 days. For the life of me, no matter what I do I cannot get the phone to access the web. Here is what I have done:
1) At home, my PDA (ipaq 4705) and previous phone (imate Jam mini) both connect to my home wireless acess pont with no trouble. The MDA shows my access point in the Network Cards Settings, but it will not associate with it at all. The battery is fully charged, the mode is set to performance, woreless is on, the acess point shows up in the Settings Wireless status screens, but it will not associate. The access point is a b/g one and it is set to mixed mode.
2) I have set up the GPRS settings exactly as per TMobiles web site with the access point (wap.voicestream.com), the proxy, the 8080 port number etc. When I try to go to a website (any web site), the GPRS/Edge modem successfully connects, but Internet Explorer just indicates 'Locating' and I never see a web site,
I have phone service plus the full internet package at 29.95 per month.
Nothing on the phone makes me think it is broken. For those that may have all this working, is there some magic to it? I'm trying not to call TMobile as the 3 or 4 times I have spoken with them I have not seen very good technical knowledge at all.
I have searched quite a bit but have not seen any mention of these problems. I'm hoping I am doing something wrong. Any experienced TMobile user out there that can give a few suggestions?
Regards,
Bob

gprs usage

Hi all,
I got rid of mine P990 and got myself this amazing tytn.I was wondering if
there is a program which shows gprs connection status and data usage?
Thanks in advance
The defacto standard program that I know of is SPB GPRS Monitor. It's a great piece of software and one of the only ones available. The other that's far less popular (based on dl's and google search ranking - not customer rating) is All-Locations GPRS Monitor. As far as I know it does the same with only minor differences in graphics. An alternative to both is using the data "add-on" in phonealarm - haven't tried it but looks like it has alot of potential.
SPB GPRS Monitor works great.
It came with my previous QTek 9100 and my current Vario 2. I don't know if HTC branded devices come with it too, but check on your CDs that came with it.
I wonder why there isn't any software that count the traffic when I use my Pocket PC as a laptop modem...
PhoneAlarm
Check out PhoneAlarm from www.pocketmax.net, it give you more then just data monitor, you got multiple phone profiles, call min monitor and more.
I'm using Smartphone gprs monitor myself on my M3100, works fine and you can just set your start billing date and let it get on with it.
The link to it is http://www.efficasoft.com/gprsmonitorppc.html...
I also use a little util to stop any data traffic unless I actually mean to use it.. such as accidently connecting to the net.. Also usefull to stop roaming connections on gprs (big bills) (Got it off MODACO forum)
Hope that helps
Thank you all for your help

fring is now available for WM5 and WM6 !!!

For any of you who've been using a Nokia Symbian phone in recent months, you'll be happy to hear that fring has just released a WM5/WM6 fring client on a "preview" basis (beta of the beta - but not quite alpha testing).
fring was the one thing that was tempting me back to my Nokia E61 after finally "fixing" my TyTN. Basically, it's a combined VOIP/IM client that supports Skype, Google Talk, MSN and SIP as well as it's own community.
So those of you still stuck on WM5 or SJPhone forget about it. For those with any issues whatsoever with the WM6 VOIP client, forget about it. From my experience, fring SIP over 3G was even better than the built-in Nokia SIP client on the E61 over wifi in terms of call quality and availability (and that says a lot).
Does it have bugs, yes. Does it need improving, yes. But it's still the best thing out there. And even if you only use Skype Mobile, the RAM usage of fring is less than half (although call quality for Skype seems to be noticably lower than over SIP).
Anyway, just wanted to give you a heads up. Don't kill me if you hate it (and no, I'm in no way employed by them). To find it, just do a google search for fring or go to www.fring.com. Their Windows Mobile forum can be found here:
http://www.fring.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=11
I have problem to in stall it on my Hermes.... Can`t install it...
Fring - Hermes not supported
After registration i recieved the following message:
Your handset is not supported ... yet.
I'am eager to try fring, but we have to wait until the Hermes is supported.
somebody out there, running fring on a hermes?
Edit: Now i recieved my downloadlink, hmmm i will try later tonight back home and report back....
Tried this morning b4 seeing this post. It works quite well...
it works
I finally installed fring, and it works..... (just tried skype)
tried over GPRS&G3, and the phone wakes up from standby flawlessly
i also like those facts (bandwith usage):
fring for symbian phones consumes
~ 8MB for 60 min of mobile-VoIP call;
0.05 KB per Instant message
fring overhead ~ 10KB per hour connectivity
i hope those figures are equivalent to those on a WM5/WM6 device....
i kept getting a no internet connection error...
Any way to take the: "On mobile by www.fring.com" ??
Thanks for the heads up from Quist! I had just installed the new version of Skype only to have it crash everytime I make a call, just about to go back to the old version but will give Fring a go as just the fact that is not as memory hog like Skype appeals to me.
Warning to those on limited data plans
Be aware that fring automatically starts and attempts to log in every time the device is reset. Since I do a backup every morning at 2:00 AM using Spb Backup, which does a soft reset afterwards, my GPRS data usage skyrocketed. Not to mention that I was fast asleep at 2:00 AM, not ready to talk to any contacts at that time. Bad, bad fring! Bye, bye fring... I may try you again when you behave better!
I know that there is an easy way to stop it from doing this, but it is just the principle behind it. I hate programs that try to second guess my wishes and do things on my behalf without asking me whether that is OK or not. Besides, it should have the option of not using GPRS/3G for those of us on limited data plans (in my case, $30 per month for 7 MB of data download!)

DOH!!! How did I miss that one?! And guess what? There is also an option "Disable autostart". OK, now I feel like a fool. Maybe I should edit my original post to say "Make sure that you disable autostart if you don't want fring to log in at 2:00 AM after a soft reset, and make sure to disable GPRS/3G if on a limited data plan."
My apologies to the fring developers.
John
this software is pretty bad ass,, i finally got it to work a few days ago.... i even started a call with a friend on google and it worked great!!!
thumbs up!
Did your Google Talk call go through your speakerphone speaker? Is there a way to change that?

You have two (maybe three) options: The first is to use the built-in rear speaker (the default). The second option is to connect the wired headset that came with your device. The third option (I haven't tested this or know anyone that has got it to work, but according to Teksoft's web site it should work on the Hermes) is to use Bluemusic to redirect the rear speaker output to a Bluetooth headset.
There is no way to use the built-in front (ear) speaker as this is reserved for the phone hardware.
John
Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315654 for a FULL review of Fring.

Orange Internet - Cost of connection

Hi. Well firstly just a quick hello as this is my first post on these forums!
I've just got my HTC Touch HD and think it's a great phone. However I'm having a few interent connection problems. I'm with Orange and have 500mb a month internet with them. I would like my phone to access my home wifi when at home, my work wifi when at work (which is patchy at the best of times) and when these aren't availabe, connect via orange through my phone.
The problem I have is that I woke up this morning to find my Orange Interent had been on all night (Just over 10 hours)........is this eating into my 500mb limit, or do I have to accessing a program for it to run the 500mb down?
Also, does the GPS for tomtom and google maps need interent access?
Thanks for any light you can she don this!
The 500mb is how much you download to your phone for the month. If your orange internet is on all night, but not downloading anything you are fine, if on the other hand, you had a site eg BBC on opera all night, it will eat up each time the page refreshes.. does this make sense?
One tip I do to ensure I only use wireless is to turn off data communication when in the house, so it only picks up my wifi..
Hi
I'd recommend downloading Tweak HD. It's got lots of options to disable Orange internet and wap to stop things like this happening. I was having the same problem until I got this brilliant program.
Ah great. Thanks guys. There wasn't any programs running, so hopefully it wasnt actually downloading etc. I have tried turning the connection off...but it seems to turn itself back on whenever it needed it!
I'll try the HD Tweak program, I've seen it about but not tried it yet.
Thanks again.
Im on Orange aswel and have the 500MB a month package.
I downloaded an app that you can put in your data plan (500MB) for the month and then it gives you a % of your used and your remaining.
Pretty cool app I must say, and i've never maxed that out and I use my phone constantly, 3 e-mail accounts constantly syncing, google maps (latitude), you tube, tomtom, web pages etc.
Hi JayPeg
I dont suppose you remember where you downloaded it? Or what it was called. Sounds like it would help me get used to knowing the limit.
Thanks for your reply

In future try and provide names of software to help other users otherwise your post is useless.
You can achieve that with SPB Wireless Monitor (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/wirelessmonitor/).
They have a 14-day trial to try out the tool.
The HD will always use wifi in preference to 3g, unless you've changed something there.
The problem comes if you don't close apps fully, many of them stick with the same connection they used last. You can demonstrate this with websites like whatismyip.com , note your 3G and wifi ones and do some experiments.

SPB Wireless Monitor is useful, but I found there was often up to a 50MB difference (sometimes over, sometimes under) when compared to my Orange Bill. Visiting http://orangeworld.co.uk from your phone will give you an accurate (accurate in terms of what Orange will bill you for anyway and it's also sometimes a little out of date) measurement of network usage.

I only get info on SMS and call timers from there? Any ideas why that might be?
