Web n Walk Pro - Free Hotspot Access - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Does anyone know how i get the free hotspot access? i know its uncluded but i dont know what i need to do to log in :lol:

You don't!
Had the same expectation but was told by t-mobile that the hotspot access was a promo only offer that ended a couple months ago.

Doh

I don't know if that's true or not. The year's free wifi is part of the price plan as far as I can remember. I also did not get any access at first, so I emailed CS and they sent me out a little voucher with a username and password for a year's wifi hotspot access.

I have just checked out the plan details on the T-mobile website at http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/Dispatcher?menuid=plans_webnwalk_proplans&chosenPricePlan=pmt and it does seem to say that they have their own wifi hotspot network than you can also use. So you may want to call and check again about that wifi access.

Free Internet WiFi Access.
It's worth while "Googling" to see if there are any free ones near where you are - or just switching on the WiFi and seeing what comes up!
A couple of years ago my 8 hour wait in Barcelona Airport was made a bit easier by the unexpected free internet connection and MSN Messenger!

For charges:
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/Dispatcher?menuid=business_im_hs_ctl&tab=cost
Buy a pass at your chosen HotSpot location. We'll then give you a unique username and password valid at all T-Mobile & BT Openzone owned UK locations until expiry. There is also a VAT receipt that you can download when you log on.
1 hr = £5
1 day = £10
1 month = £40
If you have a T-Mobile phone, set up a HotSpot account. Simply text OPEN to 9526. We'll send you back a username and password valid at all T-Mobile & roaming partner locations worldwide. After this, your HotSpot charges will simply be added to your T-Mobilee bill (75p per 10 minte period connected)*
*Roaming rates apply when not using T-Mobile HotSpot locations in the UK See http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/Dispatcher?menuid=hotspot_roaming_charges

T-Mobile UK GPRS problem? W'n'W Plus and Max mainly

I'm not sure, but i want to ask if is anyone experiencing some GPRS problems. I can connect to inet w/o probs, i can browse web...., but i cannot connect to IRC(using wmirc or pirc), ICQ or MSN(im+435) or i have troubles with ftp(resco I tried passive and active mode) Am I tho only one or something similar is happenig to others? I'm using HTC-Uni(latest WM6 build 17....)
IRC is blocked as far as i know, unless you use wnw+ or wnw-max. IM apps arent allowed just as much as VoIP over webnwalk.
i use wnw, on contract dont know if its wnw+. it worked a week ago?suddenly stopped. ****ing t-mobil.(maybe because they had to pay £200 for inconvenience)will call them
ive heard a few reports of this today, seems tmob might be cracking down on it??
I havent been able to use irc / stream music etc.... since getting my contract (about 3 weeks ago)
i cannot use ftp as well, just thinking if those bastards didnt start blocking all ports except for 21, 80, IMAP, SMTP, POP3 :-( if yes i'll chec my contract and will take some legal actions ( I love compensation for inconvinience)
Stuck
Hello everyone, ive been trying to follow these T-mobile UK GPRS problems, related post because im in the same boat. My msn messenger wont work and ive given up, (use webmessenger: works fine though). Yahoo messenger will not allow me to make pc 2 pc call any more but works for chatting.
However strange, i am begining to suspect T-mobile UK as they are obliged to do, are cracking down on VOIP / IRC protocols.
Also need to mention that skype and msn messenger works fine from my SPV M3100 so its does confuse me a bit.
Now im wondering should i delete this post A.S.A.P before some t-mobile network engineer see's it and gets to work ? Im only a student(as good as pensioner: financially) who lives on his own, so wNw MAX is mostly out of the way, might need to get a broadband connection
Don't delete the post, they probably wouldn't care what you say. (A t-mobile dude was telling me to flash a different rom to my xda, so it would be fully compatible with them!)
Unfortuneatly on t-mobile they do not allow IM services on their web 'n' walk internet I think you'd have to find a wifi point.
i read fair usage policy, its not alloved for w'n'w but for w'n'w plus is no mention of IM. i sent them a letter via their web, so i'm awaiting answer

Which WnW package are you on?
btw before people start complaning that they cant get on msn,etc check which WnW package you have
Wnw
WnW Plus
Wnw Max
then check the TnC to see if it allows you to use that service

so if your using skype, msn,etc on the basic WnW and they block that, no point in complaning as you wont have a leg to stand on
i'm on wnw+ so im pissed off. i sesnt them a mail on sund. i do not use skype as viop client only for IM. but i cannot use im+(icq...), mchat, msn messenger, irc. pinkies in callcenter are stupid, they told me that they dont provide supp for 3rd party apps (except the **** in tmo's rom - and U must have extrom installed-so no way to have icon for msn). they sent me back nice letter that they recieved my complain and i will get ans within 5working days. its friday 2:11am and still nothing. BTW IM was reason for wnw2wnw+ upgrade. they are ****ing bastards.

Using Wifi + hidden fees

Well, I am a cheap guy, for the most part. With that stated, I wanted to know if it is free (i.e. no text charges) to send and receive email using the provided outlook application on the 8125 via wifi. I believe AIM costs money, regardless of wifi (using regular AIM). Anyway, I dont care about AIM, but I was just curious about the email situation. Thanks in advance!
using wifi
Whenever I use wifi, there are no hidden fees. For instance, when I'm at home and use my own wifi access point it would be quiet doubtable if I have to pay someone else for using my own gear. But then again, I pay approx 10 euro for unlimited use of gprs. so no data limit.
Well i love gprs but the costs Pi** me right off.
i downloaded about 1.7mb and i got a AU$25 bill for JUST that data.
Well, me being a cheap b***** myself have been doing some testing regarding this. Using WiFi does not charge anything, assuming the HotSpot is free. Using GPRS on my provider (Orange DR) set me back about 30 mins. off my plan per Mb.
BTW Unlimited Data is not an option for me so far, US$50 plus taxes is not cheap.
gprs costs
i pay approx €30,- a month
this is including my flat fee for the data use via gprs
for me in the Netherlands, this is cheap.
of course this is completely dependable of what is affordable for one or another.

T-Mobile Tech Support Really Sucks...

Man I really hate T-Mobile's tech support. I called them to ask a simple question:
If I cancel my Total Internet Package which is just 20$ more on by phone bill that I don't really need to be spending, will I be charged for using the WIFI on my phone when I am at home?
I have Comcast cable internet at home and can pick up the router's signal with my MDA even with the sim card out and browse the internet.
They turned around and told me that I would be charged per Kb if I canceled my Total Internet Package and then used my WIFI to pick up my home internet service.
By the way this was T-Mobile's Windows Mobile Department that told me this...
-------------------------------------------
Ok now I have 2 questions for all of you.
Is what T-mobile told me true?
Is there a cheaper way to get unlimited GPRS internet than T-Mobile's $19.99 Total Internet package?
The only time I use my GPRS is to update WeatherPanel and when I am using the OZ Instant Messenger. All other time I spend on the internet is with WIFI turned on and GPRS turned off.
Please, all help will be greatly appreciated and well received.
Thanks in advance, your friendly neighborhood computer geek, Dan.
Well I hope I can help answer your question somewhat.
I do not pay for the GPRS service through Tmobile, I try not to use it at all. If I pull data through it then I am charged. But if i use a wifi hotspot then Tmobile will not charge me. In truth they should have no way of telling if and when I use a WiFi connection. The reason the rep told you this was really a twisting of the truth. He can probably get away with telling you this because it will cut your access to Tmobile HotSpots which you get access to with the data plan. Sneaky sneaky bastards, you should post this little tale on http://consumerist.com/ .
To answer the second if Tmobile is your carrier then NO I dont believe you can get GPRS data from another carrier. Unless your phone is sim unlocked and you choose to use another carrier to get your data through, but this will need you to switch sims out. Either way your gonna pay for it. I would hold out till 1-2 quarter of 2008 Tmobile will start its HSDPA role out, providing upwards of 3Mbps for data. Of course you will need a phone capable of HSDPA, but such is life.
If I am uninformed of another method maybe someone here will be so kind as to enlighten us.

I figured T-Mobile was full of S**T... I know I can access the internet via WIFI even without a sim card in the device. I only use it at home or in hospitals anyway. Like I said though, the GPRS for me, is just for WeatherPanel. That's why I am trying to find a cheaper way...
Thank you for your help though. Not the answer I was hoping for but very grateful non the less.
Dan.
You won't get charged for using wifi. If weather panel is all you really use GPRS for then go to the 5.99 plan. That's what I use and have no problem using weather panel or even browsing the web. The other day I even streamed video over it, although GPRS is way too slow to be any use for that but I wanted to see if it worked. The only apps that I know of that do have problems are mostly IM apps since they have most of the ports that those programs use blocked on the 5.99 plan.
Just realized that you said that you use OZ IM, I'm not sure if that will work or not, I can't seem to get it to work with WM6.
You will not be charged per kilobyte, whoever told you that was either new or retarded. The only difference you will see is that your instant messaging will go thru text messages instead of wifi, charging you per message, to log in, to log out, etc. That's due to the way the OZ instant messaging is written. The 5.99 has been working for a lot of people, but it was a glitch in the system that is slowly being fixed market by market, so don't get upset if it doesn't work for you or if it suddenly stops working, as it was never meant to work. If you connect thru wifi, you won't pay anything as it's your connection thru wifi to your phone's wifi, and the T-Mobile network is nowhere in the mix. Again, the Instant Messaging will be billed as text messages.

That is really good to know. Can you tell me or direct me to a thread that explains the real difference between the 5.99 plan and the 19.99 Total Internet Package?
i don't know about the question you had, but I've had the other extreme as far as Tmo's customer support/tech support... always been great to me. Even after 2 refurbs.
Whoever told you that you'd be charged using Wi-Fi was either full of it or was ASSUMING you would then be accessing T-Mo services...why would you? Just use whatever service you use from home.
I use my MDA with Wi-Fi in my house ALL the time and it has NOTHING to do with T-Mobile. It's not EDGE/GPRS--it's a totally different technology, just like hooking your wireless laptop up to your home router.
Furthermore, you can use the Wi-Fi with T-Mobile Hot Spots if you have that subscription with ANY Wi-Fi computer you have--no reason to have more than one Hot Spot account--many hotels now have it, not just Starbucks.
T-Mobile NOW forces you to pay for Hot Spots with Internet Service as a bundle but they are different technologies.
The Internet Service is EDGE/GPRS and that is a CELLULAR service and is programmed into your SIM chip. I use that too. My MDA can hook into eMail and web sites without a Wi-Fi connection via the cell modem. But it's not nearly as fast.
I actually have 2 SIM chips with this service--I got one for my old IPAQ6315, but that's in the MDA. The one in the MDA is in my notebook computer--it has a Cingular Sony Ericsson cellular modem that I got the unlock code for, and put the chip from the MDA in there--I ALSO can use my notebook with EDGE/GPRS, or Wi-Fi (or even RJ45) connections.
I have the eMail for my regular eMail routed to my MDA--no messing with another address. So it's working a lot like a Blackberry as well.
Finally, you asked if there's a cheaper alternative: There is. It's called "T-Zones" and it's T-Mo's WAP service, for $6 or $7/month. It gives you the limited access you get on cell phones, and you already have it with the fancier internet access--click on T-Zones and you'll see it.
Generally, with T-Mo, service is a waste of time till you get to Level 2. But if you get to Level 3, then you get the techs that really know their business. The PDA support can be similar. But you got to jump through a lot of hoops to reach that level and that can take 30-45 minutes on the phone. Be persistent.

the 19.99 plan gives you your actual connection to the GPRS/EDGE(and in 4 test markets 3G! T-Mobile bought a whole lot of 3g network up recently.) network (internet2.voicestream.com), by connecting thru this route you are given access to the ports required to get to full websites, as well as email servers, etc.
the 5.99 plan is your basic wap access, t-zones and other wap sites. It's what is used by motorola's, samsungs, basic phones. Gives you access to your account information from T-Mobile's wap sites (but not on an mda running less than wm6 and having had the tzones applett installed), accuweather's website, and other wap websites. By connecting thru the wap APN, you are directed thru a filter that doesn't allow you full access to normal websites.
Now, T-Mobile has a glitch in their system where every now and then you get 5.99 internet and your number isn't put into the filter, so the ports that were supposed to be closed off to you never were, and you can browse and email just as if you had the 19.99 feature. The only problem? They know of the glitch and are closing it market by market, which has been taking the better part of 7 months now, but it's not that far from being finished.
Almost all programs you have installed on the mda that are third party will default to what ever internet connection is available, however, the OZ instant messaging program from the MDA and almost all other T-Mobile PDA's is written specifically to use the SMS (short message system) as the next backup if you aren't connected thru the internet2.voicestream.com, or blackberry.net apn if you are using a blackberry, so if you are connected thru wifi, then you will be charged text for each message.
Hope this helps, if not, let me know.

tmohs, Starbucks (ATT) wifi

Back a long time ago, when Starbucks used TMo wifi, my phone connected fine.
Then Starbucks switched to ATT, but I recall their being some "grandfather" allowance for TMo wifi users.
My phone has the tmohs network listed in the wireless networks (relevant lines from /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf shown below):
Code:
network={
ssid="tmohs"
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=NONE
auth_alg=OPEN
}
But I can't seem to connect at Starbucks (I don't drink coffee so I haven't been to one in ages, but I happened to stop in to one with a friend yesterday and was trying to connect).
Is it still possible? Still free? If so, how do I connect?
Thanks

i was using tmobiles hotspot app and was able to connect, the grandfather clause was only for two years i think so it should be running out this year i think. try that app, i know it worked for me like 3 months ago
Still works for my stock phone
But I find I need to reboot it to get the TMO gizmo working right.
If it sees another network, it fritzes and reboot is needed.
I deleted my pre-saved "tmohs" network and tried the app at a Starbucks yesterday. It auto-connected to "attwifi" as soon as I walked in. That was most definitely NOT free.
I then got rid of the hotspot app, deleted the "attwifi" network and manually created a "tmohs" network (open). The phone automatically connected to this ssid but I was still faced with the "pay for access" screen. The "tmohs" must be a hidden ssid that is just an alias for the public "attwifi" ssid. They connect to the same thing.
So it connected fine, but no free access.
I guess the free access deal is gone?
TMobile customer support advises connecting to attwifi and choosing roaming and then TMobile Hotspot and then entering your TMobile Hotspot username/password. I don't have one as I was always able to connect automatically and I thought that the G1 Plus plan came with unlimited TMobile Hotspot access. If you go to the TMobile Hotspot website and try to sign up, it wants to sell you a plan that costs (extra) money, and if you say you're an existing customer and put in your phone number, it says (at least it says to me) that adding Hotspot access isn't allowed with my plan (which, as I said, I thought already included it).
Needless to say, I'm confused. And the customer support people aren't very helpful. And they take forever to reply each time I have additional questions. And I keep getting different people who give me different answers (this is via email support).
Any ideas out there?
Thanks
TMobile tells me that the username/password to use when choosing "TMobile" as a roaming partner are your 10 digit phone number and the last 4 of your SSN. We'll see if that works...
Use the hotspot app for an actual T-mo hotspot... that's what I do at Borders. Barnes & Noble has ATT wifi, and it's free for everyone. Not sure if that's the case at Starbucks, but I had heard that ATT wifi was going to be free at each of these establishments.

uk mifi thingys

never used a mifi, will they work with the xoom (portable wifi router). which one would be the best ? this seems a cheap option if travelling as you can buy a pay as you go sim for the country you are in.
MiFi "thingy" works with any WiFi device.
a mifi probabily cost around 50quid or more.
CPW is selling 3G model at
"Motorola XOOM 3G + Wi-Fi tablet + FREE charging dock worth £34.99"
£599.99
pcworld selling wifi model.
MOTOROLA Xoom Internet Tablet
Product code: 652928
£499.99
and if u plus 500 + "50++" quid,
i rather pay like 50quid extra to have one device less to carry and charge.

was originally going to wifi teater to a phone. I guess if your phone can do this then there is no need for a MIFI as you could get your phone unlocked (cheaper)then add a local (if on holiday) pay as you go internet sim .
