MAC Address of HTC TyTN - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

i just recently purchased an unlocked O2 XDA Trion and besides the normal problems, it has been operating nicely.. however i would like to know if there is any possible way to obtain the physical address of the ethernet card in the phone(if there is one) as i need it to manually register my phone to access the Wifi.
also i have been gettin problems using MSN Messenger, Pocket MsN, and Windows Live Messenger on the phone. my GPRS (Cingular) has been set up accordingly and i have been able to access the internet wit it, but cannot get any of my IM clients to work
ROM version: 1.23.707.1
ROM date: 06/28/06
Radio version: 1.06.00.10

also what ROM will u recommend that will be considered, "upgrading" my phone?

Start Comm Manager.
Go to WLAN Settings...
Go to Advanced tab (you'll find your MAC address)

the wifi mac is also under the battery above the imei/serial number of the phone.

Macintosh - Again

Hi all,

Who can help me?
I cannot also connect the mac via modem bluetooth...(xda2) sic

well if you mean that the mac will use the xda2 as a modem then you need vmodem on the xda not sure if xda2 have that as default
since macOSX is really a bsd kernel you may be able to use linux or bsd howto's to fix it
may be a driver and setting issue

Yes i mean that...
I cannot use my XDA2 as a bluetooth modem on OSX...
If I look for serial ports on XDA2 I found
OBEX Object Push (?!?!?)
SSA
Serial Port COM4
I've installed these ports as MODEM and as RS-232, used a generic GPRS driver but no luck
With SSA i get "establish connection" the white G appears on XDA2 but it doesn't dial the gprs number (internet.wind)
Sic
Maybe i need a string? Not only internet.wind...
as far as i know
the program vmodem needs to be located on the
xda for it to work at all
my xda1 had it on it's org rom but every rom since
dont
also heard people with xda2 say it's not there
What version of OS X are you running ? (are you even running OS X or OS 9 ?
Aside from that, connect the blue tooth adapter to the pc (if its a laptop, most modern ibooks or power books dont come with blue tooth built in) and make sure thats setup correctly
then you have to marry the phone to the pc on both ends
and then just dial what ever # to reach gprs
on my xda gprs threw the phone is internet2.voicestream.com (tmobile usa) but on my girl friends ericson phone, its like ##949### or something like that (tmobile usa also)
i've used her phone with bluetooth on my ibook 12 inch 800mhz with os x 10.3 and it worked just fine
alot easier than it was to set it up with her toshiba laptop under XP Home
Hope this helps... XDA2 hasent come to the USA yet (to my knowledge) so i dont know specifics about using it with that)
-Mario
Also, OS X 10.3 comes with blue tooth software built in
If ur using 10.2 there may be a update, dunno
There are software updates (Apple Menu / System Updater) that you can get for 10.3 to help things out
-Mario
I use 10.3.3
I've read a FAQ to connect with my gprs provider with an ipaq + irda gprs phone.
The Ipaq will send via irda the number *99# plus this extra string +cgdcont=1,"IP","INTERNET.WIND";
So I think that with my Powerbook I should compose *99# and the string... but I don't know how to put the extra string... mm
Do anyone solve the problem?
I have configurated everything for gprs connection with xdaII on my powerbook. I have associated the two device also: in bluetooth device list of my mac the xdaII appears (and are also listed the service supported, such as ssa).
But there is no way to let the mac see that I'm running vmodem on xda: it tells me bluetooth device is not connected.
Any idea?

I have managed to get my powerbook using GPRS connected to XDAII via Bluetooth. I've only just figured this out after days of reading posts etc. so forgive me if these instructions arent clear.
I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.1 but inorder to get it working I had to get hold of the Bluetooth Serial Utility (which was part of 10.3.x but removed in Tiger) from an other machine.
I had read that this App still works in Tiger. (and it does)
Using this I set up an new "outgoing" modem port and selected the SSA service on my bluetooth connected XDAII. I named the port "XDA2" and selected all the checkboxes (i.e. for it to appear in Network etc.)
I downloaded Ross Barkmans Generic GPRS scripts from his websitehttp://www.taniwha.org.uk/ and installed them in the /Library/Modem Scripts folder
I then went to System Preferences/Network and set up a Location that just had my new XDA2 port in it.
On the PPP Options window I switched off Header Compression and entered the following in the PPP settings(I have an O2 GPRS account in the UK):
Service provider: O2
Account Name: O2Web
Password: password
telephone number mobile.o2.co.uk
In the modem window, I selected Generic GPRS CID1
Heres where the fun started. When I tried to connect I was seeing script errors in the Internet Connect connect log. It turn out that most of these were because the script was sending a terminating \13 rather than a \13\10
By adding a \10 to the lines that seemed to be logged as failing, I eventually saw a "Making GPRS connection" appear in the log.
The next line that failed was were the scriot sends the "phone number".
This appears as write "ATD*99***1#\13"
From looking at some of the other documentation I found about connecting to O2 GPRS I tried changing it to:
write "ATD*99#\13\10"
To may amazement the next attempt to connect worked!!
Its still seems a bit flaky and I'm still seeing some disconnect errors in the log but at least I have it working.
If you would like to download my 'hacked' version of Ross's Generic GPRS script. I've uploaded it here http://www.430am.com/XDA2_GPRS.txt
I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has a similar success
I've done limited testing, but these are my notes on connecting an O2 XDAII to an IBook running MAC OS X10.4.7. Hope it helps someone..
Start Wmodem with a bluetooth connection on the XDA.
Place the modem script (attached - no need for the .txt extension, just needed it to upload the file here) in 'Library' -> 'Modem Scripts'
Go to 'System Preferences' -> 'Blutooth'
Press 'Setup New Device' and select 'Any Device'
Select 'Pocket_PC' and click 'Continue'.
Enter the passcode on the XDA and name the device.
Don't create a serial port on the XDA.
Go to 'System Preferences' -> 'Network'
Select 'Bluetooth' and enter the following details...
Account Name: O2Web
Password: password
Telephone Number: mobile.o2.co.uk
Select 'PPP Options' and uncheck 'Use TCP header compression'.
Go to 'Bluetooth Modem' and select 'Generic GPRS CID1'.
Go to 'Internet Connect', select 'Bluetooth' and click 'Connect'.

Active Sync v4 - arggghhh!

I have read all the posts related to using active sync and firewalls and other issues, but just can't get it to work normally unless I:
I fully stop 2 services on my XP machine:
- Cisco Systems, Inc. VPN Service
- McAfee Framework Service
This does not make me happy at all.
Anyone any ideas?

Regarding Cisco VPN, go to the connection manager part and select your connection. In the transport tab, select 'allow local LAN access'. Otherwise, the system will not allow the connection between the MDA and activesync to complete (routing the traffic towards your VPN network, obviously not what you want).
thanks for the hint, but i am afraid it makes no difference. well at least not on my machine (IBM T42)
As per the other experiences. This is what happens once i have plugged in the cable:
- establishes tcp/ip connection and issues ip address.
- then tries to connect over this connection and sits there endlessly
once I have stopped both the services mentioned above it connects succesfully.
I can't seem to find a way of configuring the cisco vpn or macafee software to allow a succesful connection.
Has anybody notice that now activesync with the imate JASJAR goes very very slow to sync (whem it syncs, not all the times... ) compared with my old iPaq 4350 using the same activesync 4.1?
Thanks in advance.

well I seem to have resolved the issues. It turns out there was an option "Stateful Firewall (always on)" selected in the VPN client. Unticking this box obviously did the job.

T-Mobile MDA and home wi-fi not working

I just really started playing with my T-Mobile MDA today. It still has the stock firmware from T-Mobile.
When I'm at home I like to turn the phone off and just use the wi-fi on the device. The phone sees my wireless network (802.11b) and I enter my encryption key. The phone connects to my local network and gets a valid IP address. However if I try to use Pocket Internet Explorer to navigate to a web page it never works. It always says "Locating..." and eventually says that it cannot open the page. GPRS works fine.
I have T-Mobile's internet3 APN for my GPRS so I don't use any kind of proxy for it so the trick of having a proxy for GPRS and none for wi-fi won't work for me becuase both have no proxy.
I have Linux as my firewall/gateway system so I told it to show me the packets it's getting from the phone when I try to go to a web page. It looks like the phone is correctly looking for the default gateway and my Linux system responds with what it is. However the phone keeps asking and eventually gives up. It then sends the DNS request to the broadcast address and that will not work so it's unable to resolve any names.
This looks like a pretty serious bug in the software of the phone. I've seen other threads where people mention the same problem but no resolution really. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm guessing my only resolution for this is to try new firmware. This is pretty annoying since this is basic functionality (the low level network stuff).
First is your phone a mda vario = htc wizard or mda = htc wallaby? you may be in the wrong forum but a simple suggestion if it is a mda vario is try it on wifi g mode fix is here (only for vario) http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=38898
My phone is the Vario. I actually have a custom ROM that has the enable for 802.11g but I went into the registry and turned that off thinking that was part of the problem because I have an old Netgear access point that is strictly 802.11b. I just tried unplugging the access point and plugging it back in. The phone connected to it for a minute and then suddenly the network went "unavailable." Now it won't connect anymore. This is driving me crazy! I am running the 2.21 custom ROM that's put together by another member here (sorry, I can't remember the name). I wish there was a way to get some diagnostic information from the MDA and maybe I could better see what's going on.
Did it connect with the original rom? and maybe its better to try qtek or imate rom like most of the vario users who have upgraded are using. (which will default to wife b mode)
The original T-Mobile ROM did not work very well either. It continually asked my DHCP server for an IP address and it replied but it just kept asking.
Can you make a ROM recommendation for what you're referring to? I've been through the FTP site here and there are a dizzying array of ROM choices.
Most vario users seem to upgrading to qtek 2.17.7.2 ROM here you can download ftp://xda:[email protected]_2170702_21707102_20710_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe
user name xda, password xda hope that works for you.
Given that's a generic ROM is there another package that will install all of the US T-Mobile settings?
There are cab's available to install GPRS, MMS settings etc but to be honest it is just as easy to do it manually (many websites give these settings) - I did it with my qtek, came with no settings - did it manually for O2 UK.
I've got the same problem with my home WiFi.
Panera - Good
Starbucks - Good
Home - Not good.
Like the others. I put in the WPA passphrase, connect to the home network, and wait, and wait, and wait....
Now, in some cases I've been able to hard code my ISP's DNS servers into the WiFi card on my MDA and soft reset and presto. Working. But after that if I disconnect the WiFi and go GPRS, doesn't work, because my ISP's DNS servers aren't accessible from the T-Mo (Voicestream) network.
Any help would be good.
In case you've not tried; Setting the Wireless power setting for 'best performance' finally enabled my home connection.
On my Vario - Settings - Connections - Wireless LAN - Power Mode

Cingular 8525 instead of Blackberry

I just got issued a Cingular Berry at work. We use a BES server with Exchange. Any way I can use my 8525 (unlocked) instead of my BB.
I've read mixed results and methods on forums/sites. I'd just like a direct answer and a how-to would be even better.
You'll find TONS of information on that particular issue here..
Either get the blackberry connect service from Cingular and use your 8525 with the black berry client on it... or.... use the company's exchange server with activesync. If you're lucky and they have exchange 2003 with SP2 you will even get direct push email, just like a berry.
Here's my setup:
1) Cingular 8525 SIM/CID unlocked (HardSPL 7)
2) Elf's 2.1 Crackberry ROM (WM6) - very nice stable build.
3) BBConnect 4.0.0.67 CAB
4) Cingular Blackberry Tethered Unlimited (both BIS and BES enabled)
Make sure you have a data connection working first.
BBConnect will issue you PIN after you click the Register button - you can see this in the BB Connect utility on your handheld.
You can then use this PIN and your phone IMEI on Cingular's BB site:
http://mycingular.blackberry.com/
Don't forget to download the Service books.
If your company has Outlook Web access for Exchange Server you can avoid BES.
BBConnect only allows 3 email boxes on a non-BB device.
Everything works fine except that the BB Service hogs the wireless connection so that I sometimes have problems with other services require internet connection.
Toss that Cingular ROM (even the latest 2.15 update) - it's worthless and a real headache - very unstable

Blackberry Connect HELP...

Ok guys, throw me a bone here. And I did used the 'Search' button.
I've recently bought and HTC x7500 (wm5). Coming from a Blackberry (8800) obviously I would love to have Blackberry Connect working on the x7500. I'm on BIS (not BES). My carrier is Cingular in the US and I my account was already provisioned and working with BIS very nicely.
I tried both, BBC version 4.0.0.67 and 2.1.2.31. After several install, uninstalls, resets, everytime I get the same results. The Identity tab on the BBC app shows:
PIN: Pending
IMEI: Radio Off
IP Address: No Connection
CURIOUSLY, out of desperation I tried my wife's Cingular SIM card (unlimited internet, NO Blackberry account at all) and this one DID generated a PIN and connection, but no IP address.
Did noticed in all cases that the BBC software never did created a blackberry connection (blackberry.net APN). I did once tried creating one by hand with my account SIM and it could connect manually and even browse the internet with this APN. But BBC wouldn't.
I then, again, tried with my account sim and both BBC versions to no avail.
My Blackberry 8800 works fine with this account/sim card.
My x7500 is:
ROM version: 1.25.405.2 (03/09/07)
Radio version: 1.38.00.00
ExtROM version: 1.25.405.103
Please HELP!
