I just bought this O2 XDA IIi and put my cingular sim in the phone and it keeps losing the signal. What do I need to do. It will not stay on network and has a very week signal in comparison to my regualr cingular phone.

I just got a new XDA IIi and when I put my Orange SIM in, it does not connect to the network.
If I use a Vodaphone SIM, it connects & gets excellent signal strength. If I make a call it hangs up by itself after dialing. If I try to call it, it goes to Voicemail.
I will try an O2 SIM on the weekend to see what that does.
I used itsme's xdaunlock tool and that said it unlocked the phone but didn't change the problems described above.
Any ideas anyone?
I tried an 02 simm on the weekend and still not working. I take it into an O2 shop and ask them.
I purchase MDA from TMO, unlock, upgrade ROM to 2.4. But in my office when I have TMO sim in, I don't have signal. I then switch out to cingular SIM and I have signal 2 bars. I then put TMO sim back and try to do manual signal. when TMO and cingular show up i select it but somehow the phone switch back to TMO network again then signal will be lost. Any idea why???
I'm in S. california ZIP 91767
both test done at the same location
I'm not sure you have described your problem too well, if your using a SIM from 2 different service providers why would you expect both signals to be the same? From the description of your problem it sounds as if your in an area where there is little or no T-Mobile service but some cingular service. If this is not what the problem is can you please have another go at explaining what is wrong. :?:
well, I'm under assumption that TMO has roaming agreement with cingular. so if my MDA can't lock on TMO tower, it should try to lock to cingular, right??
Your theory is sound but I have never heard of such an agreement nor have I seen my phone ever display the Cingular logo. I didn't think the roaming thing worked while you were in your home country. Maybe the roaming agreement only covers those states were T-mobile has zero coverage rather than poor or patchy coverage. I'm in SoCal as well so I should get a similar service as you. I would be interested in any info you can dig up on this...
Sorry that I'm in the wrong area but it's been suggested to me that as you guys are running 3g phones you may know a bit about UK 3 network.
My son is in an 18month contract with 3 but has bagged my recently discarded XDA Mini S, as I've upgraded to an Orbit.
I've tried every which way to get the 3 sim to talk to the wizard - without joy but I am aware that 3 network backs up to normal 2g orange to obtain full coverage.
The 3 sim works perfectly in another 3g Samsung so I guess it's not locked purely to 3 but if I put it in the wizard or orbit then the phone says no sim or invalid sim.
Are there any work arounds, is it the O2 software, or am I stuffed (and do I have to tell a wide eyed 15 year old that he cannot have a XDA after all) - I've never seen him so keen about a phone.
Regards

Not tried it, but UK O2 Orbits are not network locked, you can put any SIM in - although with it not being a 3G device, there seems little point in putting a Three SIM in as it will just drop back to whichever GSM network Three piggybacks on (O2 I think). I'v just bought a three sim for £1.25 on ebay, so I'll load it up and see what the coverage is like near me - I only get intermittent t-mobile in my place...
it used to be possible but then 3 started to locking their sims so they only worked in 3g phones
aha!
im not so fussed about the 3g coverage its more being able to use that sim card in the phone, whethe rit roams off of o2 or etc. i got my phoen unlocked (originally t-mobile compact 3) and its the only simcard that doessnt work - thats why im suspicios of this shop[ who says they can doo it for £50
please keep me updated as to how your simcard goes, and if anyone knows a way of doing this im all ears!
