Hi all,
Really hoping someone knows the fix for this!
For no apparent reason the system clock on my Atom is not keeping time. I've had the device for three or four months and was fine until now. On Saturday morning I woke to find my Atom's clock was 15 minutes behind. Since then, I've been unable to get it to operate to time. I set it and it gradually falls behind again.
I've watched the clock in the settings menu and it appears to stall at random times. The seconds will count (for example)... 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, pause, 34, 35 and so on.
It will do this two or three times each minute, so over an hour I lose about three minutes. That's significant.
I tried a hard reset - didn't work. I updated to the latest ROM and that didn't fix it either. Everything else seems fine.
Because I tried hard resets and ROM upgrades I'm currently running my Atom with no third-party apps until it gets sorted - therefore it can't be anything to do with any program conflicts either.
Hopefully someone has a suggestion on something for me to try. I've only located one other Atom owner who experienced this and hopefully there are more of you out there with fixes!
Cheers.
to my mind, it's hardware problem

More likely to be software
I suspect it is more likely to be caused by software ... system timer ticks ...
Have you installed any system type software eg. seems popular installing some anti-theft application that is hidden but keeps running in background even after a soft reset ?
Or some unofficial released ROMs ?
Try hardreset then flashing with official released latest ROM. After that use for awhile without installing additional apps and try to make minimal configurations and see if the clock still skips ... with each additional configuration / software, check to see if clock affected ... this will allow u to narrow down the cause.
If after flashing the clock still pauses then it is most likely hardware.

Where to begin....
I have had my wiz for about a year now (maybe longer) and everything was running fine. Nothing special installed really. I've Sim and CID unlocked, flashed to 1.1 and then flashed again to Mr. Frazzz's XDA Mobile 6 (awesome btw) and had been running that for quite some time with battery status as the only other thing I've really added.
One night I was out and managed to hit my touch screen on a table and it shattered. Things ran fine for a while (could still see considering the touch is seperate from the LCD) and managed to use it as a phone using shortcut keys. Then i started getting problems like slowing down etc and I figured it was partially due to the duress of a cracked touch screen making the phone think it was having a part of the screen pushed (or not there) so i finally had the screen, both the touch and lcd, replaced. Shortly after, I noticed the phone would freeze up randomly. (this is also about the time i switched from t-mobile to at&t prepaid) Sometimes it would do it 3 or 4 times a day and the only remedy is removing the battery. Sometimes it will go for over a week without any issues. Any ideas? Im ready to melt it.
Here's what I've done thus far with no results:
Reflashed to official t-mobile 2.26 and then flashed to Mr. Frazzz's WM6. I've re-installed battery status and then came across a thread stating that the latest version of which might be causing hangups....so i gimped it at first, using only settings I had known to work before with no issues and later uninstalled the whole thing. Still having the same problems.
I have the WM6 radio fix for cingular and 2.69.11 radio as well.
One thing I do notice is that, everytime i make a call and receive the system message stating what that call had cost me, it can cause weird things to happen if I was in the process of doing something else. Not sure that's part of the issue though considering the phone will just be sitting in my pocket when it does randomly freeze.
Is it possible that my mem card is just being jostled and causing issues? or that somehow the powerbutton is being adversely affected inside my pocket if the phone gets flipped upside down? Anyone and everyone's imput would be greatly appreciated, especially if Mr. Frazzz has any input. BTW, this has happened using both WM6r3 and r5 by Mr. Frazzz. I upgraded to r5 this last time i reinstalled WM6.
I'm guessing battery status is doing it. Same thing happended to me, did a hard reset, installed all my programs again excluding battery status and everything is fine.
Is there something else I can install that will overclock for me when the phone is active and kick down the speed when idle?
I also used battery status for the disable proxy thingie when wiFi is on.
Well...Overclocking is never safe and the manufacture of a cpu has clocked a cpu at a set speed. Why, because it is more stable. So anything past the stable speed will bound to be unstable. I overclock mine to 260 and still do not notice a boost so either you leave it at 195 and run smoothly or make it "faster" and have more issues. Your call.
Hi
My HD2 often fails to wake up when I press any of hard button. Before I perform a hard reset I wanted to ask you guys if there are any tweaks or apps which might be causing this. I am using the stock T-Mobile UK firmware, and besides tweaking a few settings via BsB Tweaks, the phone is pretty much in its original state.
My previous HD used to do this for a time, until I realized it started happening after setting up Windows Exchange server. After hard resetting and setting everything up again, it worked fine. I wonder if the problem I have with the HD2 is also due to the exchange server.
Sometimes the phone does wake up a couple of minutes after I pressed buttons, sometimes an incoming SMS helps it. And many times it just wakes up as it should when I press the Home or power button.
I don't have many apps installed, besides Tomtom.
Cheers !
Hi, the same was to me: sent an sms, locked the device, tried to unlock it in half an hour - screen blank, no response to buttons at all. ROM is stock. I remember, I also had TomTom installed and some other popular tweaks, not remember which exactly. After it, I did hard-reset the phone (restored original state). Didn't had the same problem after it.
But had a lot of other problems with HD2 - unsent sms even after sms fix from HTC, unlock screen of S2U2 locked completely (someone was calling me at this moment!), sporadic change of clock time zone...
It is my first smart-phone, and I'm disappointed soooo much... Used "true" mobile phones for years, but never had such problems.
I had the same problem but it's seemed to have stopped (for about 2 days now). It got to the point where the phone wouldn't get past the boot screen! I had to re-flash in the end....
I think it may be related to the applications I may have running. Although, most people are saying the ROMs so far are not 100% stable. (I'm running the Official Test version of 1.61)
The things I've done to try to get around it is :
- Ensure .NET compact frame work is installed to set up 3.5 and set up correctly in the registry
- Once in a whie I run the cleanRAM application that's been developed here on these forums
I don't think I've found the total solution yet, but I'm sure having these in check will help.
To give an update :
I did a hard reset yesterday. (it's always painful, but also exciting as you can set it up from start - sad i know)
This time I set up the windows exchange server straight from the beginning, then installed all the tweaks, tomtom, hotfixes etc. It woke up everytime since then, touch wood !
I'm not sure, but there are security policies pushed through to the device (like making screen lock compulsary etc) when I set up the exchange server, maybe this is causing some sort of conflict with the device, which is maybe somehow avoided when you set it up before anythin else... I dunno.
I'll let you know if it fails to wake up again.
By the way, so far I only installed BsB tweaks, but didnt apply any tweaks yet. I changed the battery percentage display, 16 quick links cab, and 3G switch in the Coms Manager, but that's it. No tweaking in the registry yet, just so that I can determine the root cause if it happens again. But so far it looks good ! It also seems faster (as it always does
Is it still running stable ?
Chaps,

It has been pretty much stable. Since the hard reset I was adding (or tweaking) tweaks and cabs in a controlled manner to see which one might be causing the freezing.
After I installed the Disable Auto Device Lock.cab (search the forum, I think it is in the sticky Tips and Tricks post), my HD2 didn't wake up a few times. I uninstalled dit and it is working fine again.
Weird, but maybe that's the registry change that conflicts with the exchange server policies that are pushed to the device, and causes the freeze.
Sometimes I just hate my phone. I have an AT&T HTC Pure. I haven't done any modifications to the ROM or anything, just installing a few apps. Today my phone turned itself off due to low battery, so I put it on the charger for a couple hours. When I needed it again I turned it on and the HTC TouchFLO 3D loaded, showing my background and the big ugly clock along with my appointments. I noticed after a few minutes the time was off by... a few minutes. The screen had completely frozen. I couldn't use the slider at all. There goes my People, Music, Calendar, Weather, and Programs tabs I use all the time. I soft reset and it comes back, looking normal. I go to use the slider and it freezes in mid-motion... never to move again. I press the Start button and my Start menu comes up. I close the Start menu and I can still see it, although it doesn't respond and the X is gone from the upper right-hand corner. I tap the Notifications bar and my notifications show up. I click close and it's still up, just not responding to taps (frozen is my guess). I've reset it a multitude of ways now all with the same result... even taking out the battery.
I don't get this. It was working fine just a short while ago. I've reset the thing before and not had this problem. I haven't installed any apps since the last time I had to turn it off due to low battery, and it came up fine from that. What could be causing this?
The real thing is this has happened before. It's like if it ever has to reload the TouchFLO interface it just bombs 1 out of 20 times. Hell I was playing around with Android for the thing, which resets the phone when you want to go back into Windows, and not had this problem the whole time I was testing it. If my phone shuts down, roll the dice and I might get lucky enough for it to come back without this problem.
I resolved it before by doing a hard reset. Lost all my stuff. That sucks for what seems no good reason at all. It's not like I was modifying system files or screwing with registry settings. It isn't even a custom ROM.
Any insight on what could be causing this, and how to get it back to normal?
I'm regretting not buying an Android phone every day anyway, but thanks to 2yr service agreements and lack of sufficient disposable income to dump AT&T I'm stuck with this thing for a while.
Thanks in advance for any help and understanding!
Your issue is that you are on the stock ROM.
That's why XDA exists, because stock ROMs are full of bloatware, eating up memory, and lacking any performance tweaks.
Cooked ROMs are not a cause of issues but a solution.
I hated my phone out of the box, but now it rocks...
With that, if you are going to stay stock, I suggest you get a backup program and hard reset.
At this point I'm very interested in custom ROMs, yet I know little about them. Looks like its time to get on it and read up what I can.

Start with the Hard SPL thread. A link is located in the 2nd sticky.
This is the precursor to flashing a custom ROM.
Once successful, you can cruise the ROM forum for the ROM of your liking.
It's things like this that make me so glad I found this site
You can try installing "CleanRAM" and running it after every initial boot to clear excess memory. You can also configure CleanRAM to schedule your memory cleaning. I recommend you to use "Level 2" cleaning though.

Unfortunately CleanRAM does absolutely nothing. When TouchFLO 3D re-loads it lasts almost literally 2 seconds before freezing at whatever I'm doing. I've even used the customized process cleaner to stop as many processes as I could (or just manila.exe) and it still will freeze when the interface comes up.
I've been able to get it to the standard Windows Default look and it works now, so that will enable me to back up what I'm going to. If I'm going to have to do a hard reset anyway, might as well put something better on there.
Maybe this might help
i experianced the same problem and the cause was i sync my entire e-mail acc. on the pure and it ran ok untill i restarted it and it boom hanged.
So i cleaned up the entire messaging folder under \Windows\
At restarted it and it was fine
So i suggest dont sync up entire e-mail in any form i.e headers only etc.
If this helps do P.M me
I installed a custom rom from dutty, and now it completely dies while in standby, have to remove the battery to boot it up again. Looks like I traded one critical problem for another.

Did you hard reset after flashing?
Also, which version of Dutty's did you install?
I have had an issue in the past but thought it was random - but now I am not so sure.
I consider a ROM good and stable if I can run it for at least 5 -6 days witout a single soft reset. Often I never get this far as I have flashed a new rom or installed something that needed a soft reset.
However when I do, I have noticed that after around 6 days, there will come a point where I will just lose connection to the network - not just data - vocie as well.
switching on flight mode and then back, or changing between 2g and 3g makes no difference. A soft reset clears the issue however.
This morning my phone worked as I made a call (6.5 days since last soft reset). Then I got in the car and noticed I had no reception - only a soft reset cleaed it eventually.
Can anyone think of a reason for this - is there any built in time function that might be within the sys (currently using 28244 but I am sure I have seen this before), or a software package that could cause this?
Just wondered if anyone had seen this - always seems to be after a long time with no resets, and memory use seems fine (plenty of free memory).
Cheers
I don't know what causes it, but I do agree that the best way to test a rom's stability is to see what it does w/o resetting. My record is 5 days; usually, at about 5 days, I just can't help myself and have to reset to try a registry tweak or to flash. I think it's pretty funny whenever a new build is released, and 20 min later someone posts that it's 'the most stable build ever!!!'
There are some things that occur on my device that are fixed by running Hibernate (I have a shortcut that does it with dotfred's task manager). That might work with your network problem. Also, if you have SK Tools, you could try the 'compact heaps' command. I don't know why, but the capacitative pad on my fuze as well as the buttons (I use AE button) stop working properly from time-to-time. Usually, running compact heaps (takes just a second) will fix the issue. Clean Ram does nothing for me, but I guess it's also worth a shot.
Anyway, going 6-7 days w/o a reset is pretty damn good, imo. A reset is going to be necessary sooner or later. I remember using the stock rom on my fuze (for a month or so), and that damn thing locked up a half dozen or so times per day, it sucked so bad. I also remember when I got my first winmo device (an asus mypal), I didn't know about soft resetting, and would go months at a time without doing it. One time, I was playing a game (curse of the pharoah, lol), and the device locked up on me and was completely unresponsive, so I had to hard reset because I'd never noticed the little hole on the side of the device.
I was actually attempting to reach 7 days, at which point I was going to proudly declare it a 'keeper'.
I agree that 5 days is a good benchmark standard actually, especially when you consider most of these are from essentially beta builds.
I still think this is one of the most stable builds I have used on a day to day basis.
I shall investigate the compact heaps option you mention - but where is the hibernate option on the Fdc task manager (or do you mean suspend?) as I already have that installed?
Cheers
C.
If you check the 'about' tab in dotfred's, it has a bunch of command lines you can use in shortcuts to do some pretty cool stuff. One of them is to send a hibernate call. These are the two shortcuts you need:
Hibernate:
Code:
1#\Windows\dF_TaskMgr.exe /hibernate
Compact Heaps (sk tools):
Code:
1#\windows\skstart.exe #HCS?\Windows\SKTools.exe,-221
You may need to fix the paths and or names of the exe's. You can create the compact heaps shortcut with the shortcut wizard of sk tools as well (main menu under Tools). I've got both of the shortcuts in rom, and I have them set as XTask shortcuts, so they're really easy to access and run. They come in handy from time to time. Sometimes one will clear up some ram, while the other doesn't, and vice-versa.
Hello,
I have a stock Moto X force for about 20 months.
I've been suffering from lagging lately (sometimes it takes a few seconds when trying to switch between apps or the keyboard becomes unresponsive). I think it got worse after the 7.0 update.
I've downloaded an app for system monitoring and I've noticed that at times of lag the internal disk activity is maxed (Read & Write are 100% (not sure exactly what that means)) (Can't add attachments). But, cpu performance and ram usage seems fine. I assume some app is causing this but have no suspects at the moment. How should I continue my debug from here ?
Thanks
Hello Juvesss,
Exactly the same phone with the same problem since one week ago... If you solved it please explain me, this is a pain!
No OS upgrade was involved in my case, I have Nougat since a long ago.
Cache wipe did not help. Limiting background processes to 3 helped just a little (developer menu).

I've been noticing this problem too.
Not sure what the cause is.
I've factory reset and that seems to fix the problem for awhile, but it seems to come back over time.
Something in the stock rom must be cluttering the phone.
Dear roweboat56,
It happened to me after 12 months of having it, so for my experience it is not so frequent. How often happened it to you? (To understand better how long will I "enjoy" the factory reset solution...)
Move to a custom rom!
I faced that issue too! The last update was buggy maybe..and the moto services and rest apps by moto are eating a lot of ram and using a good amount of I/O
.
Try this rom by me (on the latest 7.1.2 build with 5th February 2018 security patch)

No heating at all!

Hm I noticed after maybe 2 months of use or so?
Im on Latest Stock FW Android N ,using the device since 8months and not find any lag, in my case it lacks a bit when heated a lot.
I didnt disable any of the Moto Services though.
Try using Greenify if it solves the issue. I will not unlock my phone till it gets 14-15month old and see whether the same happens to me
It is strange... In my case the phenomenon suddenly disappeared some weeks ago, so I think some system update messed it all and later another update solved it. I have the impression it was a system problem and not a particular app, because I tried to uninstall the more suspicious apps without appreciating any change.
