hi im due to buy an o2 xda executive heres what the guy has put in the advert
( It has one significant fault which means the phone functions do not work, as it has difficulty in recognising when a SIM card is inserted. I have used it with O2 and Vodafone SIMs and it was sold to me as unlocked, but most of the time now it says a SIM is not inserted, even when it is.)
what i want to know is does anyone know if this is a common problem and is it easy sorted is it ususaly software or hardware related and is it worth buying if the price is right then geting fixed or is it a problem easily sorted something i could do myself
btw i need help quick if possible before it sells
thanks
Talking about phones in general.. this is usualy a hardware problem.
Perhaps you could find out how old the unit is and (if under a year) claim off the warrenty?
thanks
ahhh cool thanks for your reply
i was just thinking the guy emailed me and said he reset the device to wipe all his info off it and now its showing that it has a sim card in it but he has done this before and it goes back to how it was (showing no sim card )
my question is wouldnt this point more towards a software problem rather than a hardware problem
help update please
right i got the thing now it wont work with an o2 sim
so i popped a vodaphone on in and it worked for a while
then i took sim out looked at sim holder and sim contacts and all looks perfect so i put the vodafone sim back in and im back to the invalid or missing sim card error what next guys ?
when the device boots up i get these three things on the screen
r 1.04.02
g 42.37.p8
d 1.13.82 wwe
i suppose thats the 3 things you were teling me about ?
could someone point me in the direction to the files i need and the order i need to put them on ?
and mabey a quick readthough or point me in the direction of a post relating to this problem
i get similar things when my xda boots too. I am pretty sure everyone does. Does it display an error message with the O2 sim in? Providing the phone is unlocked to all networks, this shouldnt cause a problem.
TBH I cant see that it not reading the sim could be a software problem (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). Even though the contacts look clean, you could try cleaning them anyway. I use the rubber-end of a pencil, or an elastic band if I cant find one. But dont go rubbing the contacts away altogether.. lol
ah right sorry ignore the (suppose thats the 3 things you were teling me about ?) bit in the post that bit was for another forum the reason why i typed all the info on where the thing boots up is because someone told me the radio may be corrupt and to reinstall or install the newest one so thats why i typed all that info and i was wondering where to get the files from in what order to do them and was there a sticky and where is my bloody pencil with a rubber on it !
Just to confirm, you ARE using a 3G sim, right? I don't think it works with normal sims
3g ?
no im not using a 3g sim but the vodafone one i tried worked for a while and that was not 3g i have also cleaned the sim card contacts and the phones contacts to no avail
i have also just unlocked it using the HTC_Universal_Radio_for_SIMunlock_v0.00.00 file
still wont recognise my sim
someone mentioned elsewhere that the radio stack was possibly messed up and i wouldnt be able to use the wireless connection ? but i can so that rules that out ? so its possbily hardware related but all looks ok inside

FYI mine worked fine with a normal O2 sim, bar the 3G stuff ofc
suggestion
try putting a piece of paper between the sim and the battery to push it down a bit. Its a longshot but I know of someone who had a similar problem and it was solved like that.
Hi
That's right try to use a piece of paper stick right behind the sim card to push aginst the sim card to force a good contact, but before doing so try to use a Q tip and small amount of rubbing Alcohol to clean the sim slot metal contacts because from time to time the metal contact might being oxidize and preventing it from a good contact with the sim card. If after trying all this still not work than you might want to try flash it with a new Rom.
any ideas what next please
hi
i have tried the paper behind the sim i have tried the cleaning of the contacts and i have upgraded the radio so as the title says any ideas what to try next as none of thme make my universal think theres a sim in it it just says missing or invalid sim ?
also at the moment my radio is 00000000 so its unlocked but if iwanted to upgrade it whats the best one to upgrade too ?
is it either UNI_radio_1[1].08.00 or is it best to upgrade to UNI_radio_1[1].09.00
and what do i do with the nbf file ? is there an upgrade program please

I brought a 8125 from ebay it had a cracked screen. So I had an PPC 6700 that had a bad radio so I took the screen out of it and placed it in the 8125. Everything worked great but when I turned it on it cam up with the message " Invalid or missing SIM card". I placed my Tmobile SIM card in I turned on the device and it reads the same thing. I read all the posts that I can find about this and they really didn't have much about it. I noticed that its searching for the network buy looking at the signal indicator but I also noticed the the led to sho that the phone was on doesn't blink. On some of the posts that I read it stated that if someone put the wrong code in to many times that the phone will be "counter blocked". I think maybe thats what happened with the last owner of the phone did. I at first unlocked the sim with the sim unlocker thinking that was the problem was but it still didn't work. My question is if it goes in to the counter blocked mode does it prevent the software from unlocking the sim. My other question is what is the file's name that when you place a sim in the phone that it runs to enter the unlock code on the phone? I was thinking maybe if I run that file manualy that maybe it will get the phone out of the counter blocked mode and then I can try running the software unlock again. Things that I have done to try to get it to work was sim and cid unlock, flashed tmobile rom to the device checked the contacts in the sim holder to make sure they are touching the sim card. Any ideas?
Sounds like it may not be a software problem. If the device was legitimately software blocked, it would display that, instead of 'invalid/missing SIM'. If it's IMEI blocked, it would have accepted the SIM but been unable to connect to the network.
The problem is most likely either the SIM itself or the onboard SIM reader. Try obtaining another SIM card and seeing if the device will read it.
Need the cabinet files to configure phone for Airtel mobile network(India).... I believe clubimate.com had these settings... but that site does not work anymore...
Thanks
can't seem to get any help around here....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427092&highlight=Airtel
found by using search for the word Airtel if you need other hits
well i've tried dat b4, but it doesnt seem to help, my phone is not detects the SIM card but its always on 'off'... i can't access STK or SIM contacts either...
These problems started appearing after I fitst flashed over the original ROM that came with my phone(why didnt I take a backup ),
It actually started I think when I messed with the EXTRom, I feel this cos now my extrom does not auto execute after a hard reset or after a flash... 0
So i feel some necessary files aren't being installed...
Any ideas?????
same thing with my htc vox. wont detect sim card.
Clean the contacts.
flyboy
do u mean SIM card contacts??? or phone contacts?
I don't really have any contacts on the phone memory cos I dont use that phone now, for obvious reasons..... but the SIM card works perfectly on any other phone...
And what do u mean by 'cleaning'? As in just delete all the contacts or sumthin???
Thanks
errmm....
metal contacts on sim and phone!!!!!
lol
flyboy
well it does detect the SIM card so I dont think theres any problem with the contacts of either SIM or phone..
The problem is it just says 'phone is off' with no option to turn it on...
The reason why I know it detects the SIM card is cos when I remove the SIM card the network icon says 'No service', and when I insert the SIM card I get the message 'The phone is off'..... So that obviously mean it detects the SIM card on the phone but its not able to turn on...
Any ideas?
I really need some help here... I bought an imate phone edition from Bahrain(in the Middle East), where it worked fine with the Batelco SIM(Bahrain's network operator)... even when I inserted my airtel(bangalore) sim into it it was reading the SIM(i.e. SIM contacts, SIM tool kit...etc.), so I can't make or receive phone calls, cant send or receive SMS, pretty much cant do the basic functions of a phone... There is an X on the network symbol...
I did a couple of flashes... tried WM 2005,6.1,6.5...etc... now after a hard reset my phone doesn't auto execute anything from Extended ROM and I dont get any Phone signal... All I get is a message that the phone is 'off'... And there is no option to turn it on...
Even it doesn't access SIM contacts, I tried a network wizard and specified AirTel India.. Still doesn't work... Anyone know what I need to do here??? I have a feeling that something important isn't loading from the Extended ROM on startup...
I've unlocked my phone as well(thinking that was the issue) using itsme's tool. Still no effect...
I'm currently using this SIM card on another phone till I can resolve this, so I am sure that the SIM is completely fine....
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated...
Yesterday I upgraded to a gs3 which came with a micro sim. I wanted to see if I could keep my old phone as a backup. Would the lte micro sim work in my non-lte full-sized-sim captivate/gs1?
After 3 trys i managed to properly align the micro sim in the full sized sim slot and it worked. But then the weird part. Without powering down the phone I plucked out the sim (possible because the micro sim is so small). To my surprise the phone did not give any error and both data and voice calls continued to work without a sim actually in the phone.
How was that possible? Further, what would have happened if I had booted up my new phone with the sim card that my old phone still thought it was using (I was too afraid to try)? Would both phones continue to work? Would they both ring when someone calls?

any sim should work as long as its activated and its the same size.
and no they both wont work, the phone that has no sim will show "no sim" upon reboot

Perhaps I was not clear. I removed the sim without turning the phone off and it continued to work. I know it should not, but it does. That is what I am asking, how is that possible? Does the phone only check for a sim when it boots, and from then on the sim is not needed?
Then what would happen if I boot up phone #2 while phone #1 still thinks that the sim card is in it.
I'm interested, try it and let us know what happens.

I'm not an expert, but I think all the SIM provides is a string of numbers that identifies the phone with a phone number. This is most likely cached in the device while it is on and it might not need the SIM card after it has already gotten the information. This might not pertain to all phones, maybe the Galaxy S3 was programmed slightly differently.
If you power down the phone and restart without the SIM, the phone will most likely ask you for a SIM.
It is an S1/Captivate that is working without a sim. And yes, when I reboot the phone it stops working. I'm not brave enough to try both phones at the same time. That seems like something that the phone company would notice.
I tried removing the SIM from my captivate while it was running, and for a short time it still showed signal. Soon after I got a message asking to put in a SIM and restart. I don't have an LTE SIM or microSIM to test with, but it doesn't seem likely that the cappy will continue to work without one. Or at least without starting with a regular SIM.

i Know that this is an old thread but i just wanted to say that with some networks, you can take the sim out and still use the phone locally. they only use the sim for international or roaming outside the country. thats what i got from Sprint before. i dont know about other networks
