The screen on my Atom shakes in bright light. It's almost like there's two of the same lines and one of them is moving up and down maybe 1 mm or so. Has anybody else got that problem? It only happens in bright light, and it doesn't have anything to do with the veiewing angle, so it's not a trick of the light. The screen actually shakes! Oh, and it has done that on all the four (I think four) ROM's I have tried: The original it came with, the leaked ROM, the "Not for sale" ROM and the latest official ROM.
Er.. I have experience similiar problem too.. not with PDA screen, but with certain pattern (e.g. diagonal lines). As far as I know, it is my own eyes that is causing the problem. Before you go around finding answer for your PDA, try asking another person (the more the better), to look at your screen under the same condition, see if the person can see the same thing or not
If it is the screen problem, probably because it is a transflective screen? You are seeing the image of the reflective mirror at the back together with the actual LCD screen?
It would be a good idea, but my wife has seen it too, and this is my fourth or fifth PDA. They have all had the same or similar themes, and neither of the other units has had this problem. It's specially visible on the home screen, with the small writing for appointments and stuff. But this gave me an idea: I will try to change to one of the standard O2 themes and see if that changes anything!

A have the same problem. Not often, but looks like you discribe, but it doesn't depend of light. Usially its several seconds long, and after that it becomes stable. I think its hardware problem. As I know some people have prodlem with pitch noise of the screen.
screen flicker and sound
Have the same occurence with the flickering screen(thought something was wrong with my eyes, as well as the high pitched sound coming from the screen everytime i turn the unit on. i don't really mind the screen but anyone got any solution to the sound? :shock:
Shaky Screen
Well I have this problem too with my Atom. I think it has to do with the transreflective screen--mainly a hardware problem with the direct sunlight messing with the screen. As far as I know it doesn't hurt it or damage the screen. It just makes it annoying to use the Today screen or the Wireless manager in direct sunlight. (I got this info by doing a search for the screen, try 'TFT' or 'screen problems.')
As far as I know there is nothing you can do about it.
Also with the high pitched noise--mine has finally gone away, or my hearing has just gotten worse and I've lost the ability to hear a sound at that high of a pitch.
I hope this helps!
I see... I hope mine goes away too :wink: I can leave with the flickering screen but the noise is just plain annoying :?
Just my expenrience.
I have read and tried the overclocking thing on my Charmer. And I've noticed that, if I were to underclock the unit approx 110MHz, the screen will flicker under the bright day light. I'm not sure if you can overclock your Atom (e.g. is it OMAP processor? Do a search before attempting anything, it may kill your unit). Maybe you can solve the problem overclocking it?

Well this could be really e serious problem:
using my X7500 I noticed the display light level decreasing a little bit. I supposed it could be a wrong impression of mine. So I tried to push the upper side of metal case and I noticed the light coming up. Then I made a little pression on the same edge (near HTC brand as well the lower opposite side) and the light decreased again.
I assume there must be a problem with led position under metal cover. It's eneogh a little pression to have problem with light display. Maybe it could depend on "shock" due to the keyboard hook-up that could damage led connector inside...
Please help and tell me if you have noticed same problem...
Please any suggestions for this problem?

Tried the suggestion you made but no problems here either asci. Maybe your unit is faulty. Try returning it due to electrical shortage or something similar. It certainly does not sound normal.

Yeah, tried that - absolutely nothing happening.
I turned it back to assistence...it seems to be an isolated case, and they could tell me when I'll have it back.
HTC customer care: bad assistence:
1. they didn't solve my problem yet;
2. they didn't answer to my mail.
I purchased an HTC X7500 on 21.05.2007. After two days it immediately showed some problems related to LCD display. In fact on making a light pressure all around display metal case, especially near the hardware buttons on left side, the LCD background light became weak as it loosed brightness.
I brought it immediately to a technical customer care for reparation. After two weeks it returned back but the problem related to display brightness still persist.
1. The backlight is weak and display is not so bright and not stable too as the very first time I tested it. Now when I connect 4 in 1 cable or mini USB one, and some time even when a set stylus in its lodging, by doing some little movement of the cables connected or of the stylus in its lodging, the backlight display increases to its normal brightness level for while after that it turns itself weak so that display colors appear not vivid and with a lack of brightness. Before testing it I verified that all backlight levels were set on maximum level with any power option.
2. When I browse through menu icons and select them (without launching application) their appearance is not stable and it seem to flicker.
3. If I set a white background on display it seems to be completely crossed by horizontal stripes and its appearance (color and brightness) is poor.
So today I had to come back to HTC customer care point to leave it for the second time in twenty day.
I would like to point out that I am a professional user and I’m really disappointed about it. I had to bring my device to a technical assistance point twice and the first time, I had it back not repaired.
Considering that, and also considering its high price and that it came with original unmistakable manufacturing faults, I am asking to HTC for a replacement of the device with another X7500 perfectly working.
Best Regards.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out. I hope HTC doesn't become so big that they stop listening and taking care of their customer. I would hate to look for another high end phone manufacturer.
Arrived today...replaced.
I recently switched from a Wing (Herald) to the Hermes (8525)... I noticed the colors are pretty crappy compared to the wing, yet the Hermes is much better in just about every other aspect.
Is there a way to adjust the colors, contrast, etc. to try and make it look a bit better?
I think the same...
Is the any way to adjust the contrast/brightness and other things so the colors could be more vivid?
Comparing the screen with the one in Artemis it looks really bad
^^Agreed^^
the colors seem pretty dull and not vivid like the touch that I had previous to this device..taking a look at the specs, it seems like both touch and the tytn use the same TFT touch sensitive screen supporting over 65K colours. But why does the tytn screen seem "gloomy" does this have to do with the fact that it is Windows 5??.. any help is appreciated
I have WM6 on board and it is also very dull I even hacked the registry to show the "Contrast" option in Settings but nothing happens when I change it Any ideas?
So I guess its not the W5, well the only other thing I can think of, is the protective film that came with the phone?? any one using their device without the "stock" protector that was provided with the phone?
I have no protector on my screen
I think that the protection-glass makes the screen look so bad...
hmmm
I noticed something interesting, once I do a soft reset and the device is loading up, when my providers (rogers) logo appears the screen actually gets brighter and then it drops back to the less bright screen that we are complaining about does this only happen to my hermes.. this I guess that there is light at the end of tunnel.. Now its a matter of tweaking this to remain "max bright".. any suggestions??

Do a search for "Superbright" cab...it's small & will do the trick!
thank you galaxys!! here is the direct link to the .cab file, I am currently at work so I cant try it out .. if some one beats me to it, please post and let me now what you think!

nice!
just installed the .cab and .. its alot brighter.. thanks again vijay555
True... I have tested it several days ago.... It is brighter but the contrast is still low And everytime you want to open the camera, you have to disable it...
Hi all,
I think my display has a problem of flickering: I noticed it going to "system status" window by clicking on battery, or signal icon. Here you have a gray stripped background that on my display seems to be unstable...something like flashing. I have the same impression if I look at the headers stripes of the tabs, where you find, "People", "Messages" etc...
The strange thing is that what ever I see, pictures, different windows, they all seems to be very stable, no flashing...flickering...problem.
Now I ask to myself, could it be an optical effect due to the pattern of that specific background?
I make the same answer to you all...and did somone notice the same problem?
Please answer me becouse I should have to replace it if I really have this trouble...
THX so much!

Did you try a Clear Storage followed by a Hard Reset?
@tnyynt
Thank you for your replay.
Other people suggested it to me. I've tried it right now and it had no effect, I'm still having the same problem.
BTW: Clear Storage performs by itself a HardReset after typing 1234...am I right?
I too am noticing this flickering on the top bar. I couldn't work it out. No idea what it is, but quite glad I'm not the only one with it. No idea if it is an illusion or a fault though. Can anyone else confirm?

Yes, you are right, but it's a different one than the normal Hard Reset.
Try to change brightness of the backlight, for example turn it off and check then.

thats normal. it has something to do with the refreshrate. that occours on every phone and pc monitor and so on. it always depends on what you are viewing at the momeent and often occurs when there are many very thin lines like at the top of the HD.
I have noticed no flickering at all.
@tnyynt
Do you mean I should perform a normal Hard Reset? How can I do it...I still haven't discover how to do it...
@Raziel1
It would be normal if everyone could see it on their HD, but it seems that only some terminals have this problem...Do you mean so that my HD has no problem?
THX to all!

A LCD display shouldnt flicker. It's either a hardware or software problem. Old CRT-monitors and TVs flickered because they "painted" the picture from top to bottom, and if they didnt do it fast enough it was perceived as flickering. LCD displays uses a dot matrix and shouldnt flicker regardless refreshrate.

Do you mean that I'm calling my display problem improperly or that it really can be a problem of this kind of display and so it means it is broken?
I have been noticing this exact same flickering, and couldn't decide if it was normal or not!?
but this flickering only occures when there are certain things on the screen like the thin lines of top of the home screen. its not the screen itself which is flickering. maybe it has something to do with vision and not with a technical aspect. the same thing can be seen on every screen i ever looked at. you can try it out, by taking a picture of a pc monitor at close range with high resolution. when you look at it and scroll around with zoom, it will often flicker like hell because of all the details and maybe downscaling or whatever

I havent seen the problem myself so it's hard to tell. You can often see by looking at it if its a software or hardware problem. If it's a software problem its just a certain part, for example a window titlebar, that flickers. This is usually caused by bad programming, the programmer has told the program to repaint with a certain interval even if there is no change. If it's a hardware problem the flickering usually isnt constrained to parts of the window, for example it doesnt follow the titlebar. Instead its usually diffuse parts of the screen that flickers.
@Marinese
Uhm...I'm figuring out how to test it...If I look at a picture, I can't notice the problem, and it seems to be localized on upper bars and on some particular windows I told before. If I could flash it with another ROM...but it's not HardSPL yet and I would keep it in warrenty untill my provider/seller TIM tell me what to do with it. So it could be a ROM problem too?
It would be usefull to have two of them placed side by side
and see the differences...
For me it seems to happen when the brightness is set to high, or I am in a well lit room with auto brightness enabled. With the brightness reduced I see no flickering...
Does that give any clue as to whether it is hardware or software? It seems to be dark colours that flicker.
@evilskanker
Uhm perhaps if you reduce brightness, you reduce the visibility of the problem as well...
I don't know about the dark colours...but I took a black picture and it doesn't flicker...
I have that exact same issue..
Altought I only notice it, on the upper horizontal lines on the RIGHT in TouchFlo3D.
What is the reason for that? And how to solve it?
Thanks.
I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing, but what I have is quick fluctuation in the brightness level without changes in the ambient lighting. You could call it flickering, although I would say it's not as fast as a flicker in my case. It seems to me it has something to do with the light sensor and its sensitivity. I would like to think that a ROM update will sort it, but we will have to wait and see. I'm not doing anything about yet.
@atomikpt
It's the same of mine and also try to go to "system status" window by clicking on battery, or signal icon and take look of what it happens.
@arisg
Nothing to do with your case. Consider that I desabled the light sensor and I'm using brightness to its maximum level.
Hi
Thank you for reading this. I appreciate every suggestion you give.
I know there was a post discussing the exact same problem, but I'm discussing a possible repair/replacement on my own.
----Here is the issue-------
To put it simple, the screen tone flicks between slight pink and slight green.
I think what happened is, the screen generally stays in a normal tone which is slightly pink tinted(which is very fine and comfortable), then at some point, the brightness of red pixels have a sudden drop so the screen turns to a greenish hue. The green hue would not stay for long, for 5 second to a minute it would change back to the normal tone.
It's very slight, and sometimes it's hard to notice especially when the brightness is high. But at night this could be really an issue. It is really distracting at night!
There is no way to reproduce the problem, it just happens randomly, and could be as frequently as every other 6 seconds.

------Question-------
Now, my note does not have a warranty, and the problem comes out of the box. I heard Samsung charges about US$270 here for replacement. Well, a new note just cost about $450. Now I'm a high school student without lots of money so I want to fix it myself.
Possibilities I found:
1. Super AMOLED issue, which can be fixed by a screen replacement
2. a poor contact between screen and the board
3. The wacom layer interferes with the screen, which need to replace the whole screen assembly
4. A bad motherboard
Any idea about how to fix it? Thanks!
Hi guys, sorry if this has been posted, tried searching and couldn't find anything.
Anyways, I want to know something about the phones screen and I would like to conduct a little test.
Could you hold your phone in front if your face and turn the phone to your right (as you would if you wanted to show someone the screen full on who was sitting on your right) and look if the screen inherits a blue tint. Repeat this but to the left and see if the screen inherits a yellow tint.
It is seriously noticable on my device and I want to know if it is just me. Thank you.
P.S. I have had my phone for around a week and the bottom 1/3rd still has a slight yellow tinting. Any idea is this fades or is this just a dud LCD?

I have the same tinting effects when I angle the phone, it's noticable but it doesnt really bother me.
This has already been confirmed...mine does it too.
+1 another one here. It is a slight tint though nothing to worry about or notice, unless you are looking for the tint.
The viewing angles on this phone aren't the greatest if that's what you're getting at :/
