I just want to warn everyone the 2003 rom has many problem, since it is an internal development version. Here is the bugs I found right now.
1.Maybe it's not a "BUG". It miss the Wireless Modem which many people asked for a long time.
2.I tried Windows Media Player and Pocket Music 1.5, both can't turn off the display, which means you have to leave the display on when you listen the music. If any one can turn off the display , please tell us, may be I got some software conflicted.
3. 2 "Power" Logo on the setting menu, but the have different content. It looks like one is the new power setting tab, but it didn't provided some old fuction in the old power setting tab, so O2 kept the old one.
4. The SIM Contacts (Sim utility provided by PPC 2003) is horrible. It has NO fuction except copy the SIM card address to the phone.
5. YOU MUST NOT install Batterypack 2003 on the phone. It looks like working after you install, but your machine will never boot up after a soft-reset except hardreset the phone. (It is PPC 2003 / Battery Pack 2003 problem, not O2 / HTC's fault).
6. You will never know if the current signal support GPRS or not. It will not display the G logo in the "signal bubble".
Please add the list if you got any problem with the new rom.
If the bug I listed can't stop you install the new rom, go ahead  .
Moreover, it's not an official / final version rom, if you want stable rom, stay with XDA SE 1.1 rom.
Sorry for my horrible english~

No, it was added in the new ROMs by Qtek and O2. Whether it's a Microsoft or HTC tool I don't know, but it's definitely not ours...
XDA developer Peter Poelman,
didn't know that. i thought it was urs.
PPC 2003
Hi all
Only autentization to VPN over cetificates is good feature for me.
Another features :?
XDA-dev ROM 1.1 is best solution
It seems the "screen toggle" bug (can't switch off the screen probelm) can be fixed by install the PocketMusic 2.0 Bundle plus the 2.0_4_3 fix.
I can see a hotkey to turrn off display with 2.0 version.
Moreover, the "auto turn off display" fuction still works on the PocketMusic 1.5 Bundle version, and 2.0 too.
It's so strange the PocketMusic 2.0 works but WMP 9.0 doesn't work.
I'm happy with the PPC2003 now. If we have to wait to long beforce the official release, will XDA-Developer release an extra SE version based on the current version of PPC2003?
It still suffers fron some sms issues, i cant get a delivery receipt, and also the time sent stamp is actually the time received.
The auto config does not work, so as a result i can't get gprs working...
(Anyone know the settings for o2 uk ?)
All in all though a good upgrade !!
i loaded the 2003 rom and only have minor issues.
1. when connecting the network says voicestream instead of t-mobile.
2. connection seems slower even with the accelerator proxy turned on. the connection used to be as high as 40k according to spb gprs monitor. now i haven't seen it break 20k.
Unit no longer powers-on when placed in sync cradle; In order to sync the unit I now have to either (a) make sure unit is turned-on before placing it into cradle, or (b) place powered-off unit in cradle, then turn power on.
Not a major issue, but certainly a back-step in functionality. Anyone else notice this?
I'm using a TMobile XDA with updated ATT radio stack and PPC2003.
To Dondi :
I have your issue too, but I didn't think it is a problem for me, since I hate the machine suddenly power on itself when I am charging it.
i guess it s even better for the screen not to be lighted all the time when plugged on the cradle
Hey all. I just installed WM2003 PE. It looks and feels great. I only have the following comments:
I have installed the ROM on my Qtek 1010.
1. I can't seem to see any MIDI ringtone support on this one (probably because it's not a final release)
2. I'm still running on my old Radio Version 3.23 and my GPRS resumes connection seamlessly after calls - which is great.
3. I've read somewhere that applications will be visible on the 'taskbar' when running, but do not get this functionality also. No worries on this though, because 'Switch' works fine with WM2003.
4. Still no ability to add custom Operator Logos.
5. Hooray for the 'Busy' tone and indication!
SPB GPRS Monitor works fine with 2003. I also wanted to know from the rest of you guys: Do you have to manually initiate GPRS connectivity after a soft-reset? Or does it pick up your default connection and auto-connect?
To killercheung and Cyberb0b: You've given me a new perspective on the XDA not automatically switching on when placed in the cradle in the off state -- I appreciate the benefits you pointed out.
Also, I did notice that when I initially loaded the Ozone beta (prior to upgrading radio stack) the GPRS symbol was being displayed regularlyand I had no problem connecting with GPRS and getting decent performance (> 20 Kbps). However, after I convinced myself to "go all the way" and also perform the Radio Stack update, I now rarely see the GPRS symbol, and GPRS perfirmance has dropped to the 1Kbps level.
Now I wonder if Ozone also updated the radio (which I perhaps subsequently "downgraded" by loading the ATT RSU). Can anyone shed some light on this?
for what i ve seen Ozone does not modifiy the radio stack, you have to upgrade it yourself useing for exemple the O2 upgrade version 4.21.
As far as i m concern using GPRS in France with Orange as operator with SE 1.1 or with ozone i have the same brandwith capacity depending on the network trafic and my position, between 10 and 30 Kbps, i use SPB GPRS manager to monitor my connexion 24/7 and see what is my data consumption day by day (it also allow me to shut GPRS off without switching the phone off).
by now using ppc2003 for about a week, i have no gprs shut down, except going out of coverage area, we poor french are not full gprs anywhere, but it works pretty good in cities.
on thing i ve notices that i guess is significant :
however it is said that Gprs connexion isn t dropped any more when an incoming CSD call start, that is true but the transmissions are stopped.
I mean i can not send or recieve data while talking on the phone line. But this is not due to the software i guess it is due to the number of channels aviable on the device usually it s 4 + 1 or 4 + 2
whereas phones like SE P800 have 6 + 4 channels allowing the to really exchange data while using CSD channel.
But nevertheless it is a good upgrade cause i do not have to kill my irc session while talking on the phone (just have to hang up fast before the irc timesout ) ).
Quick question when using pie to surf the net does it hang for a while on locating the web page or does it work instantly.
I have just got the Tytn and looking at web pages using 3g is really slow and really not very usable
I am using tmobile uk 3g network
after inputting a web address it hangs on locating for up to 60 seconds then loads the page very wuickly after that
Anyone any ideas
Thanks
Chris
Very strange. I dont have this problem. The first time a UMTS connection must be established and it is 5 or 6 seconds. The next request are very fast. May be you have established the DNS servers manually?
I get that, browsing using GPRS is painful on t-mobile
how about using opera 8.6 http://opera.com
I too have this problem with T-Mobile, On connecting to the internet over GPRS or 3G GPRS it will hang for some time, wether its internet explorer or other internet services I have on the device (HTC Universal).
As I have web and walk I just leave it connected, but its not ideal. I wonder wether its the T-Mobile servers working slowly to authenticate the handset for internet use.
Its been fine upto the last month or so.

I have exactly the same problem with an MDA Pro. Fine until a month ago now slow on 3g. GPRS though is fine.
I'm actually quite relieved to find that it isn't just me !

Its also become random now, somtimes it connects and its instant, and actually fast even on normal GPRS, other times it can take over a couple of minutes to locate and open a page.
Doesnt seem to matter whether its a full signal or not, whether its after a reset or anything, totally depends on what T-Mobile feels like.
Maybe it cant cope with the number of web'n'walk use now.
Absolutely agree with you as you have described precisely what my symptoms are.
Hopefully if enough people complain to T-Mobile about it, they might actually admit there is a problem and fix it.
Maybe the delays are because http traffic is proxied
Maybe the delays are because http traffic is proxied....
It looks like Orange are operating a proxy or some other form of protection. A few weeks ago I discovered that they had something in place to restrict access to adult sites, wouldn't have bothered me other than the site I was trying to visit was xda-developers.com.
Even followed their link to get the site unblocked and got a nice little responce stating "Your request has been actioned and the content is confirmed as only suitable for customers over the age of 18." before getting their filtering disabled.

Exactly how i seem to find it, either it works or doesnt. There seems to be nothing u can do either to make it work, reboot, change from UTMS to 2g ot what ever. Nothing has any bearing and its most annoying, tbh i wish id never got the universal now as its a huge piece of junk, or at least the t- mobile ones are. Ive used a 02 one and its just soooooooooooooo much faster in everything.
im using the latest rom and even after flashing its still sluggish before anything is installed.

Having been in a T-Mobile 3G area most of today (Loughborough, Leicestershire) the service itself has been as quick as ive ever used it, getting around 270k on a fairly medium signal.
The times it hasnt worked (long first time loading) it has returned to me with a server or IP error. I just assume that as web'n'walk is unlimited, but has restrictions on use, that the servers are overloaded trying to monitor or prevent certain services working.
Its been picking up a bit lately tho, im suffering the waiting times less and less each time I try. Tho 3G UMTS has really sucked the life out of my battery today, it may be best I keep it on 2G instead.
Haven't noticed any of these problems on T-Mobile in and around London. Have you all removed your "Content Lock"?
As mentioned earlier by Taz69, connection may be slowed down by the T-Mobile servers checking to see if you're 'allowed' to visit various sites?
I disabled my content lock ages ago using 'My T-Mobile' on www.t-mobile.co.uk - give it a go if you haven't already, it may make a difference?
My content is unlocked and always has been so it isn't that umfortunately.

So, Im not the only one  Do you get the problem where it can take 30+ secs to switch between GRPS and 3G too?
Also, I spoke to T-Mobile about slow speeds and lack of connetivity - I can hardly get a signal in my office, although I am sat across road from a T-Mobile mast!!!
They said that as the mast across road was congested, my device was connecting via a mast further away (I like the idea of it not trying to get on a congested mast, but distance causes problems with connectivity too  )
Other thing they pointed out was, if you call them with the postcode that has the problem, it gets logged...enough logs and they escalate it (I'm up to 6 logs in my postcode now lol)
How can I tell if it's switching? Mine says "Connected (GPRS, 3G)"
Since (re)removing the lock it does seem significantly faster though
If your connected via standard GPRS then the connected logo at the top of the screen will have a G on it, if your connected via 3G GPRS then it changes to a U (for UTMS).
Ive always had a delay swapping between the 2, yesterday my 3G signal kept dropping so it would switch back to 2G, and it kept doing this so much I couldnt get any internet for about 5 mins. I know you can turn the UMTS band off, but this makes buying a 3G phone pointless.
I have content lock off since day one, and its always been fast. Today theres been bo problems with the service at all, fast logon, good speed connections etc.
Seems a random thing lately, but its only been lately. Its been fine for a few months before, so hopefully its somthing there working on and it slowly getting sorted.
The problems could be down to the pay and go users Web and talk, for a max of £1 per day they get unlimited internet, see t-mobile for more info, this could be eating servers bandwith within certain areas, i was able to logon this morning, but after 9am i keep getting page cannot be found errors, The little u and the 2 arrows show me I'm conneted but i cant load any pages, I hope this is the case and t-mobile sort this out asap
I have had the same problem now for around a month. I am using Opera 8.60 and it takes around 1 minute to actually resolve the host name. Sites with adverts on take forever. I contacted T-Mobile and they said that the signal in my area is really good and there shouldn't be a problem. They told me to take the sim card out, wait 30 seconds and then reinsert it, and then try.
I have not yet had any luck, and it seems to be the same throughout the country, as I was in Cornwall over the weekend on holiday and it was just as bad.
P.S. I am in Liverpool, and I have a full 5 bar umts signal.
I bought an 8525 a couple of days ago and have been playing around with it. The 8525 has replaced my 8125, which I loved dearly...
I have noticed 3 major bugs in the device :
1) The 8525 does not indicate when you are using edge by the "E" icon. It simply has the "G" while producing edge speed.
2) The non-3G internet connection is terrible. It times-out quite often. For instance, when I try to check my email using pocket outlook it sometimes takes forever.. or when i am trying to access a website, it says locating for about 1-2 minutes before actually opening it up. When the internet is working without the those time-outs and lags, it works great (better then the 8125 in non-3G areas).
3) Pressing the power button (when the devices screen is off to save battery life) has a weird 2-3 second delay. This never happened with the 8125...
Here is my Device info:
Rom version : 1.34.502.1
Rom date : 9/21/06
Radio Version : 1.16.00.00
Protocol version : 32.53.7018.01H
The main reason I am posting this is to find out if I am the ONLY one experiencing these problems, if so, I am going to do a warranty exchange swap. If anybody has any suggestions or comments please share it here..

Here is my experience so far:
1) I have yet to see an E indicator for Edge. I live in LA and we are still waiting for our 3G deployment so edge is all we get. I do want to point out that on page 25 of the 8525 manual it does not indicate that there is an edge indicator/symbol display specifically for edge.
2)The non-3G connection here in LA has always been spotty at best so I can't really comment on that. I do however notice that I cannot connect to a lot of the streaming content at locations where it was possible with my 3125 just a week ago. Also it take longer to get the streaming playing if it does connects.
3) For me the delay for power up from power save is about 1 second.
I have never used a 8125 before so I have no way of comparing the behavior of the two.

I can't confirm this because I've not left my excellent 3G signal area yet but from what I understand the current rom doesn't differentiate between GPRS and EDGE.

Mine is a 1 second delay. No DSODs though, so it's no big deal for me.
well....i too just upgraded from the 8125...and i find the edge to be a lil suspect. sometimes i take longer than it should to pull up my email.
as far as the power button....it takes longer to turn it on when the screen is locked than the 8125.
The speed of a EDGE or GPRS connection also depends on the serving cell's current capacity. If there is too much traffic, you won't get the maximum of timeslots and so bandwidth will go down. 3G is not very different regarding this issue, but the most likely capacity bottleneck is the basestation's connection to the core network. Here in Germany a lot of 3G basestations have only 2 MBit/s connections, so two HSDPA-clients can use capacity to the full.

1. I have never got a E but I am not to sure if Telstra even has a Edge network.
2. I have never been out of UMTS coverage since I got it so I don't know.
3. It takes about 1 second for mine to start-up.
Everthing working great, but no E for Edge either!

Just wanted to advise, my 8525 shipped with the exact specifications as yours. I too am not receiving an "E" for Edge transmissions. However, as one of the previous posts suggests, we may never receive an actual "E" up top in our display. Haven't had any of the timeouts you are experiencing either. My email and browsing via GPRS/Edge(Edge if I truly am receiving it) works fine. No timeouts on either e-mail retrieval or browsing at this time. Over 2 days battery life so far between charges. Woohoo! Also, in terms of actually switching from stand-by mode to power up, takes approx. 1 sec. as well. I have not yet been in a UMTS area, so I cannot advise of battery life, performance issues related to that. I'm still loving my device!

Yes your right of course, I was being petty cos these problems are already posted elsewhere. Sorry for being childish.
I have to say though here in Aberdeen Scotland my GPRS connection is super fast, faster than my wifi connection and it's not on 3G due to my ancient sim card (must get a new one). So more to do with coverage/local GPRS conditions I guess. Weird cos until a few days ago it continually timed out with page not found and now works amazingly well. I changed nothing and I do not pay for a data tarriff!! I do of course get charged for bytes downloaded but still lots of folk on o2 like me don't get this unless they have a data contract. Weird.

For those of you who have connection problems, try switching to the isp.cingular AP (requires the PDA Connect plan). I had all sorts of difficulties when using the default wap.cingular AP, but the ISP one works fine...

(boohoo)But I don't wanna pay $25 more a month... (/boohoo)
I'm thinking about it, I just want to know for sure it'll fix these problems because I probably can't go back if it doesn't...
Is it possible to test the isp.cingular settings (and get charged) before switching, or do they not work at all without PDA connect on my account?
Just as a headsup to everyone who got the 8525 from Cingular, one of the things I was able to find out is the "G" in this case, also stands for Edge, I also believe it may or may not be in the documentation but have not been able to confirm that yet, so in this case:
"G" - GPRS, GSM and EDGE
"U" - UMTS and HSDPA
Please take this with a grain of salt.
JB
Can anyone explain the difference between the "wap.cingular" and the "isp.cingular" configurations and the step necessary to make the adjustments?
Also, I have been having some weird connectivity issues where my cingular signal become unstable when switching the Wifi radio on and off. The only way to recover is to soft reset the 8525.
I live in metro Philadelphia and have tested this both in the city and the surrounding suburbs.
Thanks!

I've got an 8125 and an 8525 side by side in the same room, and the 8125 has an E, and the 8525 says G. Now, the documentation I have clearly distinguishes between the two. "Status Indicators" on the last page of the "Getting Started Guide."
I am using mediaNET on both.
This is a little annoying, but honestly, the speed is the same. Unless someone can confirm that this is causing lower speeds to be rejected, it's just an annoyance that, if I recally from my 2125, can be tweaked in the registry or some other simple tweak.
"Dial up"
Also, I'm having some irregularities using the 8525 as a "modem" for my computer. I have a C2D MacBook Pro, running Mac OS 10.4.8 and Windows XPSP2. With my 8125 I could use "dialup" on the Mac side via BT. On the Windows side, I could use dialup using the USB connection. (And BT in bootcamp)
I also have tested this with a regular plain HP PC laptop.
I have noticed that it doesn't always connect on the first try, whereas the 8125 always did. The connection speed is the same as tested on DSLreports mobile, but I have to say, I find this a little odd that it doesn't always connect.
I am far away from the nearest 3G area, so I won't be able to test it there until my next trip, but, oy....
Anyone else with this problem?

The cingular rom on the 8525 DOES NOT (not yelling) include an E icon, only G and U. When in G you are actually on EDGE, run a speedtest and you will see. Hopefully they will correct this in the future release. And since there is no included E icon there is no reg tweak that will correct this.
I just got my 8525 on monday fron cingular, when I first got it I noticed that the internet will work fine on 3G but it wont work on G, for some reason on G it will time out when looking to load a page on IE and it wont receive or send emails either. So I said, what the hell, let me upgrade to WM6 and this should be solved, I was wrong, I have the same exact problem on WM6 and I've spent countless hours going thru all the threads looking for an answer and still nothing. Dont want to call CS since I'm on WM6 and they would start giving me crap about it. Anyone knows whats going on here? I can get internet fine on 3G and I could tether fine to my lappy but if I go out of a 3g and into a plain G network, it wont let me do anything online. Could it be software or hardware? If hardware, how would I go about returning since I upgraded to wm6?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
If you have HTweakC, check the Phone...GPRS/G3 Connection setting and tick Enable GPRS/G3 Auto Attach.
I found that i had the problem you describe when moving from the 3 network in Sydney (Aus) to a regional centre where only GSM/GPRS was available.
I'll try that and see if it works when I move to a none 3g zone. Thanks a lot.
That didn't fix the problem, still no internet when on G network and do have internet while on 3g network. Any other suggestions?
Which WM6 are you on ? I'd think that the Black 2.0 for Cingular might be best and with the 1.40 Radio.
Are you a new Cingular subscriber ? If you are maybe try your SIM in another phone. They might not have provisioned your account properly.
No, I'm not new to cingular and I'm using now the WM6 Black Edition. But dont think that matters tho since it was doing the same thing on wm5. Any suggestions?
Well, have read and gone thru countless threads and still no answer to this problem. Like i said, I went back to WM5 and still have no internet when on E but get lightning fast connection while on 3G. Has anyone experienced this before?
Did you solve the problem?

I use my 8525 in a non 3G network (GPRS/Edge) and I haven´t been able to have a decent connection since day 1 back in December. If you solve your problem please share the solution. Thanks
Maybe this will help
I bought my very own Tytn this week and got a mobile internet subscription with it. I can't seem to connect to any webpage using IE either.
I'm a Firefox fan and always use that wherever I am. So I decided to try the pocket version of that, which is called Minimo. it's on http://www.mozilla.org somewhere.
For some unknown reason, that solved my problem. IE still doesn't work, no matter what I try, but I can surf as much as I want on Minimo, which is fine for me.
Hope this helps.
Hi all, apologies for posting this, as there I know there's tons of other threads relating to this matter - I've spent quite some time reading (and being confused!) by them, but I can't seem to find a thread which a) has someone describing the exact problem I have, or b) giving a definitive solution. So here it is:
I have a UK MDA Vario II. It's my second one (replaced under warranty), this, and my first one both had a problem where I would seemingly randomly not receive calls or texts. The phone shows it has a signal, and the green light would be flashing to indicate service. However, on occasions, if you try to ring the phone, it diverts straight to voicemail. Sometimes service resumes normally (about an hour later) and I get a message informing me of my missed calls, and sometimes I have to do a soft reset to get it working again.
What I have gathered from reading on these forums is that I may need to upgrade my radio - it had version 1.05.02.00 on it (which it must have been shipped with).
So - following instructions, I put HardSPL 2.10 on to the device, then flashed the Radio ROM to version 1.47.30.10, deciding that this looked the safest bet based on the feedback of other people on the Forum. Having done this (last night) I decided to test the phone once per hour today by just calling it, and I only got to the second test before it failed again - showing signal and green light flashing - but calls going straight to voicemail.
So - I don't want to do any damage to the phone - but I need to know that when someone's calling me, it's going to ring (we're moving house soon, so I'm relying on certain calls from solicitors, bank etc etc). Can anyone tell me of a reliable Radio ROM version for an MDA Vario II on T-Mobile UK? (which won't introduce further problems!)
THANKS!!

Ive never had any problems with calls not connecting, the only times it has failed is due to poor reception and ofcourse network busy errors.
I wouldnt worry about the radio version it sounds like a network issue. Have enabled 3G on it??

I have (and thanks btw - it was your guides that I followed attempting the flash last night). The thing is, a good friend of mine has the same phone, in the same area - and he doesn't get these issues. My other half is also on T-Mobile, but uses a Sony Ericsson and doesn't have any problems with coverage. I'm in a city centre right now, and my house isn't far out - we both have decent reception there.
In fact - an interesting thing just happened (literally..) - I have my phone on a charging cradle, and it had been dormant for a while, so the screen was off. It woke up, as if about to receive a call or text, but then nothing happened... so I called myself from my office phone - and it connected ok.
About 5 minutes later my girlfriend called me up on the mobile, and I mentioned the issue was still there - and she said 'yeah, i tried to call you about 5 minutes ago'.... so it's like the call was received (i.e. the phone new about it), but it didn't complete the process.
I had thought a new radio version might help (from my very limited understanding of such matters) - are you saying that's not the case?
Does 3G affect this too? What can I do - I use the internet more than anything else on my phone....
Thanks
does anyone have any further advice on this?
Mr Vanx? Anyone??
My phone is still randomly losing signal - generally not accepting incoming calls (though today it was not accepting calls, whilst I was still able to make them...). I think I may go and get it replaced by T-Mobile - but I have upgraded the radio to 1.47.30.10, and have put HardSPL 2.10 onto it.
I guess I need to downgrade to original versions, but I can't seem to find a guide which tells me if what I want to do is OK (and how...).
Please - can anyone assist - I believe my original radio rom was 1.05.05.00, and the SPL version was 1.01.
I'm using 1.54.30.10 and it's fine. I found 1.54.00.10 pretty good as well. Much fewer dropped calls comparing to any 1.4x RadioROMs. Signal strenght is also better. The only thing I cannot comment on is the battery life, as I charge the phone every night whether it's 90% or 10%.

did you have the same problems as me? - phone appearing to have a signal but calls being diverted to voicemail... seemingly randomly...
Use GSM mode as default
I have the exact same problem (I travel between Birmingham and London mainly) on my Vario II. It is really fustrating and my wife seems to think I dont answer her calls/txts on purpose(!)
On mine, the problem is due to the 3G mode - when I turn OFF 3G and use normal GSM the problem goes away. I get all calls/txt and internet connections sucessfully. When I turn on 3G the problem comes back - lost calls and unsucessfull internet connections. When in 3G mode sometimes it works somtimes it doesnt
Someone mentioned it could be that it is not switching between 3G and GSM automatically when no 3G is available. However, it happens even when in a good strong 3G area.
I swear this problem did not happen in the early part of my contract but only recently. One theory is that TMobile has sold so many 3G devices now both monthly and pay-as-you-go (esp 3G Data Modems with users using the network for their laptops) that the TMobile cells are just getting overloaded. Also, it could be that TMobile are also doing an upgrade of the 3G network and it is causing problems for users.
So what I do is run the phone in GSM mode as default (so no missed calls/txt and use Opera Mini for quick web surfing works well in GSM mode) Then switch on 3G mode if I am going to do any web surfing for more then 5 mins.
The added side benefit is also much much better battery life in GSM mode (3G soaks up the juice very quickly). I never use video calls ect so no loss there.
My Comm Manager has a toggle for 3G/GSM mode so I use that to quickly change between the 2 modes.
In Summary I would rather have a reliable phone for recieving/making calls then one which is hit and miss.
btw, Im now due an upgrade - wondering if I should stay with TMobile or not...
We appear to have the same phone 'lives'!

Ditto - im due for upgrade in March, and had been looking at the Vario iii - but am now wondering if I should be looking at another network? Is this a consistent problem with all 3G devices on T-Mobile - or does it just affect the Vario ii?

I signed up in Sep 06 and there was no problem with 3G mode then (problem free for the first 12 months at least).
From your phone internet rowser goto http://mini.opera.com/ and click on Download Opera Mini (this is latest version 4).
Before you do this make sure you have Esmertec Jbed midlet manager installed (Opera Mini is a Java App).
I use Opera Mini 90% of the time and its still renders fast on a GSM connection.
Ive uploaded the CABs for you for the Midlet Manager and Comm Manager.
I dont know if it only affects the VarioII maybe others can comment. If its a network issue then I would expect it affecting other devices also.
I want to go for the HTC Touch Dual (aka MDA Touch Plus on TMobile) as my next phone but may go with Orange if it is a network issue. Only reason I stay with TMobile is for the 'unlimited' web'n walk tarrif..but if I can't use 3G realiably then what is the point?

Thanks very much for loading this stuff...
my other half is after the touch plus too - but have advised her to do some research before committing to T-Mob again.... though if she gets it and it's ok, i'll post some feedback on here...
Cheers
The Touch Plus is a good phone if you can live without Wifi...Ive read somewhere that this problem is dependant on the area you are in ...in particular the TMobile cell tower servicing the area you are in and it is possible to phone TMobile tech support to get an engineer to investigate and correct the problem. In my case that would be my home address and my work address - maybe worth a try?
Just to add my 2p worth... my radio is 1.05.05.00 (came on the phone, which was a replacement for the first which had the screen drift)... I've had occasional times when the phone's lit up but nothing's happened, but I usually chalk that down to the phone doing an activesync check for push mail, and as there's nothing there, it goes back to sleep.
To my knowledge, I've not really missed any calls or anything like that since way back last year - when sometimes I'd be sitting in the same café as a mate also on T-Mobile, and we'd do the you-call-me-i-call-you thing to get each others' numbers - and it'd go straight to voicemail! That was quite amusing.
Nobody's told me that they've had problems trying to reach me on my mobile though for a fair while now, so I'd almost completely forgotten about this problem!
edit: yay, 500th post! Took a while but got there eventually... Anybody want to sponsor me with a free Kaiser?

Hi, I confess I haven't read the thread in great deal (am in a rush and am just passing through!) but you could try this official T-Mobile UK ROM. It's Windows Mobile6 and Radio 1.50.xxx (as far as I remember). The main thing is that it's official, and includes their latest sanctioned bootloaders etc. I flashed it to mine before taking back for warranty (as it's not possible to go back to the old 1.05 radio from recent unauthorised versions).
T-Mobile UK WM6 complete MDA Vario II ROM:
http://member.htc.com/ruudownload/t-mobile/TMobileWM6Step1-TMuk.aspx
sim
:O when did that become available? I swore to myself I'd keep an eye on the TM phone downloads site because I knew WM6 was available for some devices, but I completely forgot and since then they've rolled out WM6 for my phone... Which is a proper pain, but at the same time a really nice surprise.
Hard reset your device, install ALL applications on the phone (nothing on the micro SD - except outlook attachments). This should solve the problem.
