Help Registry access via Active Sync - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I stuffed up
I was setting the default keyboard to NullKB in the registry, but I typed in the wrong key, I reset my device. and it would not boot up.
Is there any way to access the registry via Active Synce to fix this wrong key.
I guess my only fix is reloading the OS (ROM) again and all my software.
Please advise...

My fix was
hard reset, restore factory settings, and reload every thing...damn

Digs,
Now that you have a clean install. I suggest you invest on a backup software.
I personally use SPB Backup. What I did was:
1st: Perform a hard reset.
2nd: Install everything from scratch.
3rd: Tried and setup every application on my Universal to my preference. Remember to setup all settings.
4th: Performed a backup under a specified name, like "1st Backup", name it whatever you want.
5th: Set SPB Backup for automatic backup at a specified time.
The advantage of having the original "1st Backup" is it will save me time and effort whenever I get into trouble and I know that it is a clean install, and everything is already setup as I want.
This method had saved me a couple of times already, as I like to try softwares. When I try softwares I install it to the "main memory" before I decide to put it on my Sd card, so it won't mess up my Card which contains all the apps I want that SPB Backup has saved. If I decide that I don't want the application I was trying I just go to File Explorer and run my 1st Backup and I again have a clean fully functional Universal.

Backup Software

Hello,
Just got a strange hard-reset which makes me thinking of doing a backup every once in a while.
Question is, what's the best backup software out there, I want to backup the whole system (with every program i install), to my PC, and when i need to restore it, the program will restore every thing, including my files, my programs, my Adjustements in programs, Every single thing.
Any Ideas please.
Thanks.
Sprite Backup
try 'SPRITE BACKUP'
you can backup & restore, whatever file that you have !!!
Does it support backing up the whole operating system to a file on the computer and restoring it when necessary, I mean i will install everything i need, make a backup. If the device made a hard-reset again, will that mean i will be able to restore the device to the working state with all the programs installed, every actavation made, every registeration done..????
It will do a complete, instant-restoring full backup which will make the device work just like you had it before the hard reset.
I had to test this on an airplane the other day. Had a mysterious, spontaneous lockup and hard reset. My Sprite backup was only a couple hours old, so not a huge loss.
Sprite Backup can make backups like exe files.
You can make copies compressed and even encoded. Also you can program automatic copies according to time or load of the battery.
You can select if you want to copy all the system or only the content of RAM.
You can select if you want to exclude some types from files.
You can select the space or the maximum number of copies.
I think it is the best.
I agree, SpriteBackup Premium is the best. Can backup & restore EVERYTHING to a PC or even your SD card. No need to reload the Sprite application first either. Just double click the *.exe file

[Q] How to revert back to original 'phone' settings

When I installed the resco contact manager this came instead! I think I messed up when I used SSMaPa and cannot figure how to arrange it back - Full Restore does not solve the problem!
Is there a way to revert back to the original 'phone' settings? I can't figure a way around it.
Sorry for the blurry images it's the best I could get
Thanks for any help
in ssmapa there is an option to disable all the changes made, dunno if this is the full restore you are talking about. It generally works without problems, only you MUST be sure to disable tf3d in settings/today/items/untick touchflo 3d
another option is the hard reset, which will revert ALL your phone to factory settings. You can use a backup program to backup all your stuff and proceed with it by going to start/settings/system/clear storage. Note that your memory card won't be touched by this procedure so you can save your stuff there
Thanks for the tips. Can you recommend a backup program that will backup my installed programs as well please?

Auto App Installer

I do a lot of flashing ROMs and it is a pain to reinstall everything everytime. I previously used the AutoRun installer which worked pretty well; however, it doesn't allow you to auto-install apps onto your storage card.
What I would like is something that I configure to install apps to main memory or storage card (something I can configure to do so), and would also let me install/modify registry entries so I can autoinstall things like my owner info, etc. And I don't want this to just 'cook' into my ROM, but rather something I can run just after flashing and have it 'do it all'.
I have seen that there are installers out there but nothing like what I wanted. Any suggestions from anyone?
try sashimi
Nah. Try InstallExpress.

Use a free cab maker and create your own mysettings.cab ready to use with install express after every flash. That's my way.
I have to +1 for SASHIMI... give it a couple of minutes and you'll easily set up a system to backup your settings, regkeys and files before Hard Reset and then run the restore after flash to put everything back in it's place... no more reconfig all the softs...

Sprite Backup - Restore help

OKay... perhaps someone can save me from having to reinstall from scratch - searching did not give me the answer.
Accidentally deleted all my contacts from the diamond after having had to reinstall my PC (and outlook)
I thought to myself, well, I've got SpriteBackup, right? (been running Sprite Backup regularly, excluding the Internal Storage but doing everything else.) - I'll do a restore.
It's a German O2 original ROM, I made no changes to it since the backup a few days ago. The only difference OUGHT to have been the missing contacts.
Executed the backup from Internal Storage, it ran without error, and immediately after the final soft reset I get the message that a few programs (changescreen, s2u, ...) can't be started because either a component is missing or the certificate is invalid (paraphrased German error msg)
It turns out NO Program I've installed myself will launch. Not even those I merely copied over and that normally run without an installer.
I tried factory defaults and running the restore again, with the same results -NONE of my programs work anymore and it doesn't matter if I installed them in the Programs or on Internal Storage
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to fix it without a complete reinstall (which I would absolutely hate to have to do)?
Thanks in advance,
Verrath
Solved.
I needed to run the restore from the application rather than calling the .exe, and set the restore options to "replace" rather than "merge", which seems to be the default.
Ah! I had the same problem.
The new Sprite backup has added functionality to make upgrading of ROM easier (great news for those ROM-flashers here!) so instead of overwriting all your system files with old ones it'll do a 'merge'.
You can do a hard-reset, then run the .exe file and choose to do a "Level 1" and "Merge". This should fix your problem.
If it doesn't, then you'll have to run the Sprite Backup application (Which I presume is stored on your Internal memory), Go to "Settings" -> "Restore", and choose "Replace" instead of "Merge". Now go back to main menu, choose restore, choose the backup file and it should work this time.

Phone backup software (not My Phone)

I've just spent well over an hour (maybe 2) re-configuring (and re-installing apps on) my HD2 after installing the latest ROM.
Is there an app somewhere that can 'image' the phone so that you don't have to re-install and re-configure everything after installing ROM updates?
I thought 'My Phone' might save phone settings at least, but it doesn't.

Click to collapse
Something like spb backup can but is really not recommended to use it to restore backups when changing roms. Ok just for hardresets but can cause problems between roms.
Maybe sashimi would work even?
That's a very interesting question. It takes a such long time to configure everything ...
Sashimi is really worth looking in to...
It can install cabs, import registries, copy files, execute .exe and run scripts. I already use it to install all my applications, import some registry stuff, auto run pimbackup and rename the bluetooth files tomtom messes up.
Shortcuts on home screen, favourites in ppl tab, favorites for opera are all found in the registry/folders so it is also possible to back these up.
It's a real timesaver (haven't been able to restore email accounts yet though)
Same here...I have spent around 5 hrs to configure it back to my settings...and more over some of the applications that I have installed I don't have the .cab file....again I have to search for them...atleast a tool which export the information like home screen short cuts..fav contacts...list of applications installed would help if a backup software is not possible...
SPB backup does have a "custom backup" option that allows you to pick and choose ( reg, apps, PIM), folders, etc.). You might download the trial and try it to see if it meets your needs.
Sashimi is the best program you could want to reinstall apps and settings its easy to set up and once you have put everything in the right folder then its pretty straght forward to use everytime you install a new rom or hard reset.
I use SPB Backup, does the job flawlessly.
